yellow tint or dead pixel still present? - ONE Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello everyone I want to buy an OPO but my only concern is that the yellow tint or dead pixel problem is still present on new OPOs

I just got my One on Saturday after buying it from the open sales event on Tuesday and I can confirm that there are no dead pixels or yellow tint.

Nobody can confirm anything about whether dead pixels are present or not, it occurs on a device-by-device basis, so you'll only know when you receive your phone. It's such a low chance though.

All 1+1 have yellow tint, because the test of the screen is set up to be too white. Compare it to a nexus, you will see nexus has no whites but instead the whole screen is yellow.

No, not all of them do. Mine doesn't, my fiance's doesn't, neither do several of my friends' either. You can't speak for every device that's been produced, only the devices that you've actually seen.

I have neither, but light leakage at the top is my problem.

Oh god, dust and dead pixels are my ocd's worst nightmares. I get so depressed when I see them Color Banding will soon be joining them too
You should add a no issue selection.
how?
Wheres the "no problems" option?
Mine has very minor light bleed, but thats it. Its only noticeable if I'm looking at a pitch black screen in a dark room.. so its pretty much no problem
Only issue I'm having is that the screen is too bright for the auto brightness.
Other than that it's perfect
No issues. But there's no option for that in the poll.
Gradient banding and light bleed (bottom right corner).
I have a yellow screen. But for me, I am getting intermittent screen flickering, specifically in Chrome and Messages.
Furthermore, I already have tons of micro scratches on my screen. Have no idea how they got there. Glad I picked up a screen protector for $3 on amazon and Ordered a Seidio Active Case also. Don;t want this beautiful screen to get a jacked up.
No issues here either.
No problem at all here! Gray one X.

You could try Juice defender. It has an option to change the auto brightness, both the maximum light, and the average light (and minimum)
Only thing I miss there is an option to disable it while charging or in the car.
My only issue is banding. For those who DON'T have banding, I would appreciate if you'd check out my thread on the issue, especially if you're able to post a photo of your phone's screen.

Thanks!
no issues for me either .
banding sometimes but minor , and isnt that software related anyways?

I don't think so. Take a screenshot when you see banding, then look at the screenshot on your computer or on another phone. When I tried that, I saw less banding on the computer and on my old Captivate than on my One X, viewing the exact same image.
I have banding, but it seems more like a software bit-depth issue than a physical problem with the screen.

Guys, I wish it were this simple, but it doesn't appear to be. I can use Paint.NET to make a gradient, and view that same image file on many screens, and my One X shows more banding than the others. It still doesn't look as bad as the One X's app-uninstall screen, which is likely because my gradient is linear and theirs isn't, and so on top of there being bands, they're also unevenly spaced! But there's no denying that the bands are there (at least on mine), and they're more apparent than on the other displays I have access to (another phone, a laptop, and a TV).

I meant a driver-level firmware issue. When I had the Nook Color, there was a kernel that enabled lower bit-depth to speed up the boot, but it introduced banding like this. There was another kernel that could show full 24-bit color and had no banding.
So just loading an image onto the phone isn't proving that is a hardware issue. This just makes my argument stronger with the uneven banding being related to bit-depth and not hardware.
I have no screen issues! @TinyBoss I saw your other post and I have to say your banding does look bad. I was leaning toward software until I compared mine to yours and I'm thinking you have a bad display...

Yellow screens - does the problem still exist?

There were reports of OPOs and OPPO Find 7a-s with yellowish screens. Could OPO owners or others with information clarify if the problem still exists?
Thanks.
Edit: Ok, there is some info from an owner.
The display doesnt have a yellow tint and furthermore you can customize the display using different presets (standard, vivid, custom hue/tint mode etc) but out of the box there is no yellowness on the display (i.e. the hardware display looks great)

Hi,
I received mine yesterday and I have a yellow tint at the bottom of the screen. There are also others who have this issue.
E.g.: http://forums.oneplus.net/threads/oneplus-one-experience-day-one.36937/
Look at the three pictures at the bottom of the first post. You also see some shadow effects at the bottom which I also have. I posted a pic as well in the same thread:

I contacted David and thinking about opening a ticket and replacing it by a new one, yes.
Here is another user with the same problem.

Yellow Screen: This is an update from yesterday. So, the yellowness is there a bit ... but it's barely noticeable. I really have to strain to see it, and honestly, it hurts more to try to see it than to just use the phone. At this point, I do not think I would return the phone just because of the very slight yellow shadow on the bottom quarter inch of the screen. It's practically invisible. I am hoping it just goes away completely like happened for some of the iPhones a few years back.

Confirmed by OnePlus in Jerry's post, there is a yellow tint at the bottom. Quote: "Since brightness influences color temperature, the yellow tint at the bottom is due to the design of the phone". This is not talk of an uniform tint over the whole screen, but a yellow tint at the bottom.

Apparently that was said by one of the admins. They confirm that yellow spots exist but deny that this is a problem. I think this is a product defect and should be exchanged by the company without questions.

I would insist on getting it fixed up if you have a that partially yellow stain. It doesn't matter how "great" the price is, if it's got such a visual stain. I wouldn't put up with it.
Say what you will about Samsung phones, at least the OLED screens looked fabulous.

I am planning to get the phone, but seeing OPO denying that yellow spots on the bottom are defects (they say it is normal), I will hold off for a time. It is really idiotic on their side to deny the problem and deny RMAs.
Just got my OnePlus One today in the mail, and to be honest I think people may be making this deal bigger then it needs to be, or I got very lucky. On my OnePlus One there is a bit of yellow tint at the bottom, but it is SO minimal that it strains and hurts your eyes to even look for it, and if you use on-screen buttons it covers it up anyways. And even if you use the hardware buttons, the amount of yellow is so little that you never rarely it with day to day use. Hell, my Nexus 5's minimal backlight bleeding on the screen edges is more noticeable then the yellow on my OnePlus One.
With that all said though... this still may be a hardware issue for some users, and if so OnePlus One should stand behind their product and offer replacement devices.

I know.
I can't believe a company that touts itself as having "beautiful experiences" would be so bad in the "customer service and selling experience". Noobs.
Got my device yesterday. Pretty bad Yellow staining along the bottom half inch of screen. Quite bad IMHO.
Requested a return/replacement
That's the same here. Received it on Wednesday, I've got the same problem as yours: yellow tint on the quarter-bottom side of the screen, that's worse on the right-bottom edge than the left-bottom one. Hoping it goes away but I don't think so.
Same here, very bad yellowing at the bottom of the screen.
Have asked if they will replace it, but they just send me a standard email that everyone gets:
Hi
Thanks for getting in touch! There are three different types of 'yellow screen' issues.
One is where the screen is evenly tinted yellow - this is actually an intended effect as warmer screens offer more true-to-life colors than bluish screens. To adjust your screen hue manually, please go to Settings > (under Device) Display & Lights > (under Advanced Settings) Screen Color > Custom > Hue.
Another is a slightly yellowish band across the bottom of the screen when viewed from unconventional viewing angles at full brightness. Our screens are lit from the bottom instead of from underneath, and to minimize bezels we place the light sources very close to the edge of the screen. To prevent excessive light leakage, the bottom edge is designed to be slightly opaque, which is why it appears yellow from certain angles.
If your screen has yellow spots that appear to expand however, please send us a photo and we'll see whether it's a hardware issue.
You might have seen photos of these issues online - most were taken at extreme angles and 100% brightness, or even doctored to increase the contrast. Actual imperfections are usually very subtle and do not impact normal usage.
Thanks for understanding
Best regards,
Marilyn
They also say the evidence is tempered with, basically calling us liars.
That response is awful. My screen is blatantly yellow and they are saying it's supposed to be like that!? I've sent a RMA request - will see what response comes back
Yellow on mine too. Got the device yesterday and quite displeased.
Bad QC from the supplier of the display. Either the glass was not cured long enough to the touch screen, or it was
rushed out without QC inspecting them for rejects. With the amount of orders requested in China alone, not to mention
the international demand, doesn't surprise me.
What's sad, is the stance OnePlus is taking. "you are holding it wrong, we did it for a warmer color display".
Crock of beans! It's a DEFECT when the bottom part of the screen is YELLOW.
Some say it will go away over time, but if you have access to a UV light, a little time under one of those might get
rid of it. Considering how long it takes to get one, sending it back for a replacement might take as long as it did
just to BUY one.

Annoying yellow spot on display

Hi Guys,
New to this forum. I recently sold my one plus due to the exact reason but this was at the bottom of the display. Many have said that it would disappear over time but after 6 months, the yellow band was still haunting me. Gave up because of how infuriating it was and sold it. Got this beast, loving it but I noticed straight away at the top left of the display there was a yellow spot which spreads slightly to the centre. Im not familiar with the characteristics of certain displays as I am aware of the different kinds of displays these two devices use. Just wondering, would this problem disappear over time ?? I saw this post on this particular "fix" sites, which says that it will over time given the glue dispersion from heat and what not. BUT, im just afraid (skeptic here) it would end up like my one plus. Im trying to avoid going back to the reseller as this phone was purchased from a grey importer. Any input from any of you guys would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

a lot of people have yellow spots . the spots are mostly visible in 0% brightness and grey backround. Install dead pixel detect and fix and choose gray from the menu. if the result is not good contact with lg service center to change the screen.
you mentioned also oneplus. I also had oneplus before. it had 2 issues the first one was the led light bleeding and the yellow banding. the led bleeding is only visible down due to the position of led lights of the phone and cannot be fixed. the yellow band was due to the glue that didn't properly fixed. I personally had this issue but after some months It was fixed by the use of the phone. I also let it 2-3 times under direct sunlight for 20-25 minutes.

S8+ AMOLED Display Quality (Red Tint Issue) - worse as previous Samsung devices

Hello fellow XDA members,
In the past I started some threads regarding Samsung AMOLED display quality, especially for the Note devices.
Please see here if you are interessted:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/note-4/general/note4-amoled-screen-quality-t2906365
https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2463786
Now, with the S8+ (and the S8, the problem is the same), even the media recognized the display problems, known as "red tint", just google for it!
Samsung tells the people that this is due to wrong settings, and/or the adaptive display setting turned on! THIS IS NOT THE CASE!!!
I got 2 pieces of S8+ today, and both displays are not OK. One screen has the red tint issue, but only on the upper half of the screen.
The other device has no red tint, but is generally darker and looks more "washed out" and has a slight yellow tint.
So again the display lottery is back, it is only "luck of the draw" if you get a decent screen or not!!!
If you do not believe me just compare a few devices beneath each other with the exact same display settings. Turn adaptive display off, then go into the dialer and type *#0*#, with this you ensure the brightness settings are the same and you have the same sceen content on both devices. You will notice that every single device has a different screen quality (tint, evenness, ...)
What do you say? Acceptable or not?
With all of us over at the tmobile shipping thread we've been waiting and crying and hoping that we get our devices early....and then when we finally got our devices ****ty things like red tint leaves a sour taste in our mouths..sad really, samsung already made this device feel rushed with all the Bixby and fingerprint scanner awkward positioning and what did we do after the note 7 debacle? We forgave these fools...and now this?....i do feel bad for those that actually paid full retail price for these expensive devices and to unbox and realize the screen is pink...that right there is not how to say forgive us for our mistakes instead a huge f u to all the customers who were unlucky enough to get such a horrible display color....but I will say I won the lottery because out of the box my s8plus came out nice no red pinkish tint whites are white...but why am I still pissed? Because my note 4 was the same whites were white and then after a year or so my eyes were fixed on a strange color that was taking up half of the screen that came out of nowhere...so yes I will be forever paranoid with sammys displays now....if my s8plus came in like that I don't think I would've came back....but then again I'm here lol
Settle down guys, this will likely be fixed with a future fw given the attention its gotten, this is pretty simple for samsung to fix actually, all samsung needs to do is what video games have been doing for years; offer the user an option to calibrate based a sample image. Once thats in, the presets can be established based off of those generated values from the user selection.
It seems like they will indeed need to implement a fix of this sorts, because it does seem the displays hue varys from device to device.
Anyways, for the most part, I hardly notice it and it seems even, and the more I look at it, the more i can't make sense out of it? Seems to play tricks on my eyes... lol.
Beautiful phone and display though!

This is a hardware problem, a real software fix IS NOT POSSIBLE!!!
Samsung can only try to cammo the problem with increasing the range of the color-sliders in the display settings, so that you can turn down red more then now. But this wont fix that the red tint is NOT EVEN ACROSS THE DISPLAY!!
What else proves that this is a hardware error is that if you put 5 devices next to each other (with the exact same settings), each of them will look different in regard to screen quality! Believe me, I know what I'm talking about, see my previous threads regarding that!
I agree that it should be even otherwise you may have a hardware problem but my concern is your criticism has more to do with amoled in gerneral and what we are observing is a consequence of the tech used. Samsung is also pushing the boundries here too with the display tech so the norms for amoled to compare to may not even apply anymore. And your comment to my comment regarding masking the problem, there is a reason why every display on the planet has picture settings.. right? No 2 displays are exactly the same...
I just went through the crap with my Surface Pro 4 too, trust me, they are a good example of no 2 displays alike, must have went though at least 11 Surface Pro 4 on my mission for perfection display and I had to give up in the end because truth is, its still an awesome device!

Absolutely unacceptable reasoning. They shouldn't be putting out a product if the "early batches" are DEFECTIVE
Obviously it's a QC problem, which they seem to have some fairly big issues with, over and over.. They will lose customer faith if they keep doing this ****

Perhaps but then again why did you buy a phone from samsung in the first place?.....
I was in the Samsung store yesterday for the launch party. They had 3 S8+ on display next to eachother. Each was running the exact same retail mode, showing the exact same content at the exact same time.
One display was white, one was red hued, and one was pee yellow.
(No, it wasn't display calibration settings, I checked).
There are definitely quality control issues.

And which of the 3 do you have?
I noticed a slight pinkish tint when the shipping screen protector was on, but looks ok without it.
Something slightly different this year is there seems to be a pink tinge on all four sides of the display (top, bottom, left and right). It's a very consistent along the sides of the screen and very noticeable, a few people here have also noticed it: https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s8/help/red-tint-screen-t3592335
So it's not just another pink/yellow/blue/green spotty tinge problem, theres now uniformity with the example i've provided.
I've got the S8+ and the screen is not red at all. The left and right edges if anything have a slight blueish tone to them but I believe this to be the effect of the screen curving to the sides distorting the colour (Colour shift?).
Unless you have bought one and have the problem with it, you have no right to complain.

Mine had a very slight pink tinge when I got it, at the very top and bottom (maybe half the status bar thickness), and it's since gone way.
The over all display color was a little too warm for my liking, so I knocked the red slider down to half, and now it's fine.
Got me and the wife one yesterday from At&t. No red tint and best phone yet. I love it.
My display is freaking beautiful and I love the fingerprint location. I never had any trouble. My finger finds it very naturally

I have an S8+ as per my posts in the other thread, so I have a right to complain.
Firstly, it could well be fixed by software, even if its uneven, HTC had issues with the camera doing this a number of years ago (big red spot in all pictures). It was fixed with software
Secondly, it might disappear with time. AMOLED, OLED and other self lighting technologies (like Plasma in TVs) have a bed in time, where some colour ranges need to burn in. I would suggest a full red screen using a screen tester app for a few hours, to see if it beds in the red.
Guys, I would like to take this device, there is a possibility of having a faded display?

Pixel 2 non xl screen in saturated

I got a Pixel 2 (non XL), but the screen had kind of a reddish yellow tint, so I sent it back for a replacement, and the replacement also had kind of a tint. I looked at the Pixel at Best Buy, and the screen appeared to be the same, so now I think it might be normal, but before I sent in the first Pixel 2 I received, I asked on reddit about the tint, and someone said that if it got more yellow when you set it to saturated, you should send it in, and it did. When I set the new device in saturated, it gets slightly warmer/more yellow, so is this normal? I talked to Support, and they said it was normal, but I'm wondering if your phone does it too.

Whites appear more yellow on this device vs an LCD screen. It only gets more yellow as you switch to saturated mode. The pixel 2 did not have a dull color issue like the XL version, so there is no need to use the saturated mode. Use the boosted mode and you'll be happy and colors will look more natural.
Both the original Pixel 2 I got and the replacement have slight reddish tints near the top of the screen when viewing a white background. Is this normal? I think the Pixel 2 I saw at Best Buy might have had it too.
The reddish/pinkish tint is mainly in the top of the screen, and I tried to take a picture of it, but it wouldn't show up. It bugs me when, so I might return it and get a OnePlus 5t.
