Hi all,
I already searched around and could not find anything close to a solution. I have a huge ANNOYING problem. I haven't had this issue until recently. Or rather, I haven't noticed it until now. I flashed a new ROM coming from CM10 thinking it was the ROM, but I have tried two different ROMs and still the same problem. WTF!? I keep getting the message "Insufficient Space available" error when trying to install programs from Google Play or trying to side-load.
For some reason I have two internal storages when I look under storage in system settings. One is 1.97GB and the other is 11.24GB. In the smallest one, I have 209MB available. WTF!? Yet the other has 11.17GB. It's to the point where I have only 9 progrmas installed! 9!! Something's got to be wrong here, Please help!
What's the deal!? Anyone have a solution. I have done a factory reset and cleared everything. Still nothing. Any help is greatly appreciated.
*temporary fix*
OK, so I went in and cleaned out the folder /system/lost+found
It had 1.6gb of used space. Deleted it all and now I have that space available.
The main reason for this being a temporary fix is because I still have two internal storages. So eventually the 2gb where all the programs are being installed into, will run out again. So then phone is not taking advantage of all 14 GB available for storage.

Did you wipe data and caches?
I had this problem before, where I had gigabytes of files in the lost+found folder, which would take up the internal storage where apps are installed. When I went to another ROM, I did a clean flash, and even though I restored all apps from Google, I had much more space available.

I did all that. Just like always. Even before I flashed the new ROM, I cleared cache and wiped data. Even did Dalvik cache wipe. Still nothing.Where is this lost+found folder you speak of. Maybe go into it manually. But still doesn't explain all that available space.

Wipe data from google play services, google play, and google services frameworks. Clearing the data also wipes the cache for you. To do this go to Manage apps>all and pick those apps. It'll take some time to resync all your google info but after that you should be good.
So I just had this problem yesterday and what worked for me is to wipe Everything, except for the sd cards. That should clear out the data that is from your last rom.

Actually the way to fix it is set "use rm-rf" options in settings in TWRP while flashing. I don't know why but make_ext does not work sometimes

I'll try that. Actually I got it to where I can actually install other rpogrmas. But the phone still has a 2gb internal storage and 11.4gb internal storage. Which is pretty frustrating. Buddy's S3 only has one internal storage. Sondoea another Buddy's note2. So I'm lost as to why I have 2 internal storages. Wtf!?
For right now, see first post for my "temporary fix"

Have you figured out a solution (and not just a temp. fix) to your 2 internal storages issue? I'm having that problem right now after flashing official CM 10.2.
Please let me know asap.

Did you wipe internal sd card as well or did you mean you wiped everything except both the internal and micro sd card?
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda app-developers app
My solution was to disable Sync App Data in my google account as I logged into a factory wiped phone. I had Despicable Me 2 installed on my tablet, but even though it wasn't installed on my phone it was still syncing the 600 (SIX HUNDRED) MB of App data (videos I assume?!). There is no easy way to know which apps are doing this(abusing data sync), especially if you have multiple devices using the same account but different app sets. Wiping /data and making sure not to sync app data was the only thing that worked for me. Once you are in, you may be able to delete that app data by delteing the app from the 'My Apps' 'All Apps' section, but there should really be a better way to manage this data.
Did anyone come up with a permanent fix for this? I have tried flashing several roms several times and always end up with the split storage.

I haven't found a permanent solution, but you can install apps on the external SD card. I think there is an Xposed module that will force apps onto the sd card as well.
Hello everyone
This is CWM-Zip script to repartition our N7100 to gain 1.9 GB more for user data partition.
This script is originally from http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s3/development/guide-extra-1-3-gb-user-data-t2762594 It’s for GT-i9300. Made by @forumber2 :good:. Thanks to him, without his easy simple script, I wouldn’t be able to port this script.
This is how Samsung partitioned N7100

"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
After running the script
Please note that this script is not suitable to ROMs that require storing big files in CACHE and PRELOAD or HIDDEN, notably Official ROMs, as you can see that CACHE and PRELOAD got shrank.
I’m not sure if there are some custom ROMs that store files in CACHE and PRELOAD, so check the ROMs installation zip first before using this repartition script. Check by reading update-binary in META-INF and observing folder structure inside the zip file.
I’m using DN3 v5+ and it doesn’t store any files.
I checked Omega v29, it doesn't use PRELOAD to store files, even wiping it before install.
X-Treme v2.1 is safe to install, even wiping PRELOAD before install.
BIG UPDATE 1
For some ROMs like Phoenix ROM requires storing data to PRELOAD, but not CACHE.
Use partition script "Repartition_N7100_16GB_PreloadStockSize587MB.zip" instead of "Repartition_N7100_16GB.zip"
It will partition PRELOAD to size of Stock 587 MBs.
CACHE remains 100 MBs, and SYSTEM remains around 2 GBs. GAINED USERDATA FREE SPACE IS AROUND 1328 MBs.
If your ROM .zip installer doesn't store files in PRELOAD, use "Repartition_N7100_16GB.zip" instead.
FYI, Big CACHE partition is used to store official Samsung OTA updates file, if you are on custom ROMs, then you can’t use Samsung OTA updates anyway. Big cache partition is practically waste of free space, but it is still required for Google Play APK downloads. (Max Google Play APK size is 50 MBs) In fact, Google Play apk downloads are stored in /data/com.android.providers.downloads/files/, cache partition is used to store apk downloads in old Android version. This script will partition CACHE with size of 100 MBs. For any Google Play apps that are bigger than 50 MB, they will use expansion files called .obb to help, those obb are stored in "Internal SD Card/Android/obb".
Samsung Apps APK downloads sometimes can be seen large to something like 300 MBs, but these APK downloads are stored in "/data/data/com.sec.android.app.samsungapps/files" So it won't break Samsung Apps downloads.
PRELOAD or HIDDEN is used to store Samsung crap stuffs like ringtones, Wonders of Nature video, starter beautiful images, VODB folder that is used for S-Pen stroke recognition. When user make a factory reset, all data in internal sd card gets deleted, then stuffs in PRELOAD gets copy to internal sd card. That’s why after factory reset Wonder of Nature video comes back.
ALL USERDATA AND INSTALLED OS ARE GOING TO BE REMOVED, SO BACKUP FIRST!
So let’s get started. You will use "Repartition_N7100_16GB.zip OR Repartition_N7100_16GB_PreloadStockSize587MB.zip OR in the attachment
1.Backup of course, if you don’t do System Nandroid backup, be sure to have ROM installer zip ready in external sd card, if you do Nandroid backup or Titanium Backup, make sure to back up to external sd card because this process will erase internal sd card too.You may backup your internal sd card to external sd card, USB-OTG, or Windows PC.
2.You need to use PhilZ Recovery, it doesn’t work with TWRP, TWRP lacks of “parted” binary required for repartitioning.
I personally used PhilZ Touch 6.25.0 on my N7100. 6.41.6 reported to work as well.
3.Install the ZIP and the script will run, after it finished, it will reboot recovery again.
4.We are not done yet, this script still has some bug that formatted partition can’t be mounted. You can see that you can’t mount some partitions or maybe all, weird.
5.We need to fix mount problem manually by go to Mounts and Storage, then format System, Data, Cache, Preload or Hidden one by one, then go to Power Option and reboot recovery once. DO NOT FORMAT BOOT, MODEM, STORAGE/SDCARD1 (external sd card).
6.We have repartition successfully. Now restore data, install ROMs.
How to restore original stock partition table.
You will need to do this if you want to install stock official firmware.
1 - Download "Odin3_v3.07_with_PIT_16GB_GT-N7100.zip" and extract it somewhere
2 - Download any stock ROM from sammobile.com or samsung-updates.com and unzip it.
2 - Open Odin, click "PIT" button and select " PIT_N7100_16GB_20121102.pit"
3 - Click "PDA" and select official ROM that you've downloaded
4 - Click "Start"
5 - After installation, phone will be stuck at bootanimation, don't panic.
6 - Pull out battery, boot to recovery (you can see some mount errors, don't worry)
7 - Select "wipe data/factory reset" in recovery menu
8 - Select "reboot system now"
I recently update 4.3 MJ5 to 4.4.2 ND3 bootloader via odin successfully, just to inform that after repartition, bootloader update still works. If it fails, make sure to try new usb cable. Mine failed first time because of bad usb cable.
See ND 4.4.2 bootloader here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2472270 CTRL+F in the thread and find bootloader.
For some people who curious how to output partition table in Terminal.
First you need to install "parted" binary to /system/bin/
parted binary is in attachment,
then use these command in terminal
su
parted /dev/block/mmcblk0
print
Also programs to show partition tables in Google Play can't show partitions offsets, but this command could.
UPDATE 15/10/2014
I found out that in fact, Google Play apk downloads are stored in /data/com.android.providers.downloads/files/, cache partition is used to store apk downloads in old Android version.
UPDATE 24/10/2015
I also uploaded a new partition script cwm-zip file for AOSP users that will repartition system to size of 1 GB, preload 15 mb, cache 100 mb.
This will gain 3 GB of more userdata space.
Please note that once you have repartition with Repartition AOSP N7100 System 1 GB.zip
You will not be able to install Touchwiz based ROM, Touchwiz based ROMs are bigger than 1 GB.
You will have to repartition again with Repartition_N7100_16GB.zip OR Repartition_N7100_16GB_PreloadStockSize587MB.zip, note that all userdata will be deleted.
Note that I personally don't use Note 2 anymore, but this script should work. It's just simple script editing from previous files.
1 GB system partitioning for AOSP/CM is not working as
psndna88, AGNI kernel maker, tests
"it seems we cannot change SYSTEM size, else the bootloader boots only into download mode"
Thanks a lot. I will try it later.
I did repartition my device about a year ago, but I did it manually and used parted program that comes with cwm recovery. The process is fairly simple if you are familiar with unixlike OS'es. The advantage of parted us that you can resize /system partition too (CM11 requires just 400 mb on /system, and default is 1800mb).
I just tried it. It all went fine. Thanks!
My question is, can we have more space, or this is the max we can have?
I guess some space must be reserved though, so the phone can work properly.

Yes we can have just a little bit more space. You may try to shrink cache partition to 60 mbs, shrink preload to 4 mb. That would gain 54 mbs only. I configured cache and preload to be bigger than this for safety purpose. Maybe it will be use to store small files in the future. We also need to keep the number of partitions to be the same as stock one, else everything will malfunction. I still have no ideas what does OTA and TOMBSTONES do.

great guide, will try
reminds me of the htc days when we could s off and flash various hboots to increase/decrease various partitions
so, this will accomodate all current custom roms ? edit - just read your warning to check : thanks:

only a small problem, it does not format anything and says that there is no sim inside, I sincerely hope that you manage to solve the problem ....
also the modem is not installed ...
I saw your post on the DN3 V5+ thread which led me... Seems to be a great concept, especially considering that one of the first things I do upon flashing a stock-based rom is to delete most Sammy things on it.
I understand that you need Philz to flash this; will the latest V6.41.4 do?
Also, do you know of anyway to save all system settings so as to restore them later? I can backup apps and their data but not the stock system settings themselves.

Man, I tried via Philz 6.41.6, since it was recommended in OP. I usually use TWRP, had a nandroid backup of everything including Modem made with TWRP which I placed on external card.
Had the mounting problem after flashing script and rebooting recovery, but I manually solved them, as described in 1st post. Then reflashed TWRP and restored my nandroid from external card. Then also restored my internal sd files (music, games obb, etc) which I saved on pc.
I have no error, I have ND3 modem present, all fine, phone works as before. And 12.1gb total space instead of 10.4 which I had before.
Thanks again!:good:

How come your modem firmware is gone?
Have you try installing ROMs again, most rom installer will flash modem firmware.
My script doesn't touch modem partition at all.
Just partition cache and after that, see the partition table.

steff195 used Philz 6.41.6, and it worked.
Well, DN3 v5+ update-script has the commands to delete Android Setting Database on install.
Because you restore data first, then flash DN3v5+ which triggering deletion of Android Setting Database.
So you have to backup android setting database using titanium backup before repartition, then restore after repartition.
Or after repartitioning, install DN3 v5+ first, then restore data using nandroid.
I also have weird problem after deleting Android Setting Database on DN3 v5+. New setting generated is really courrupted. It breaks home button, notification toggles expanding, lock screen, and much more. Everybody else seem to be fine of android setting database regeneration. Weird.

Yes you can.
Extract my .zip script, then open the updater-binary with your favorite text editor, I prefer Notepad++.
Find these line
parted /dev/block/mmcblk0 mkpart primary 168MB 270MB -> CACHE
parted /dev/block/mmcblk0 mkpart primary 270MB 2417MB -> SYSTEM
parted /dev/block/mmcblk0 mkpart primary 2417MB 2432MB -> HIDDEN
parted /dev/block/mmcblk0 mkpart primary 2432MB 2440MB -> OTA
parted /dev/block/mmcblk0 mkpart primary 2440MB 15.8GB -> USERDATA
It is pretty easy to understand indeed, first number after word "primary" is the start offset of the partition, second one is the end.
You may change those number. But remember that CACHE partition must always be bigger than 50 MBs to store google play apk download. Google stated that google play apk max size is 50 mb, bigger than that will use .obb to help.
I recommend you to keep OTA size 8 MB, cause I don't know what it does.
HIDDEN can be shrink up to 5 MB I doubt. I suspect that shrink up to 4 MB can cause issue, I don't know if you set size for 4 MB, will it exceed minimum partition size required.
However, numbers in red can't be changed, they must be 168MB and 15.8 GB the same.
And do not change order of partitions, and there must be 5 partitions. You can't remove HIDDEN and OTA, else partition order and number will wrong, and I think a lot of things will break, including recovery.
After you modified the script. Zip them and put in your phone and flash!

Do a clean install.
How?...
Do a factory reset and flash the last snapshot. I think the last one was M7.
If your problem persists after that, you're dealing with a hardware issue.

Thanks for the answer
I did a full data wipe and I installed CM 10.2 stable, annoying enough google failed to restore to the device, so I had to redo everything. Anyway even with CM 10.2 after a FULL wipe I'm still facing the same issue. My device reports that I have more than 500 Mb free space, but I cannot install new software, however I can copy and download to it without any problems....
It's not a major think I cannot leave with out, just it's quite frustrating...
Emil
i've been running cm11m7 on my relay for about a month now, and even with a bunch of apps installed, and letting touchdown (my work email app) use internal storage for emails and attachments, i still have 3.5gb free on internal.
my guess is you have a ton of large apps using up all your internal storage.
how much free space do you see when you go into settings/storage immediately after you do a clean install of CM? skip the google account stuff during first-time setup so it doesn't try to sync apps/etc, so you get a good, accurate measurement.
for reference, mine shows a total of 5.06gb, with 3.52gb available. 1.51gb used by apps, 2.31mb pictures, 352k audio, 5.5mb downloads, 102mb cached, and 7.82mb misc. that's not counting my SD card, which doesn't have any apps on it. just MP3s, pictures, backups (titanium) and other misc files i keep around for work. i'm thinking after a fresh install, you should have at least 4.5gb free.
when i go into apps and sort by size, firefox (surprisingly) takes the most at 307mb, then google text to speech with 263mb (because i downloaded the high quality english pack), then touchdown at 100mb, chrome at 78mb, onenote at 64mb, kindle at 56mb, and it just goes down from there.

I'm not so sure it's a hardware issue.
Dear OP:
Question 1
Are you still having this issue? If not, what was the workaround?
Question 2
What app are you using in order to download and install the software you're installing?
Question 3
What's the exact error message you're getting? Please provide a screenshot if possible.
Question 4
The Google Play store definitely requires 500 megs free before it will install anything. Other software installation methods may also have their own odd requirements.
500 mebibytes equals 524.288 megabytes.
Let's round that number (524.288) up to 550 megs.
Try freeing up 550 megs, then try installing a small app (one which requires 3 MB of storage space or less). Can you install it successfully?
Did you manage to solve the issue , i too have the same problem . I have more than 5gb free on internal storage
UPDATE : I MANAGED TO FIX THE PROBLEMThe way is to clean format the system via twrp (switch to ext2 and switch to ext4) or something similar, the storage partition will restore to its original state
Hello everybody, recently I decided to check the storage allocation and saw that system is using a large portion of my storage space
Any suggestions ?

That's a bit strange.
I'm pretty sure, though, that stock apps aren't included here, maybe only core system apps. Because I have disabled a lot of pre-installed apps and the system storage space didn't change that much, only App storage. Mine is currently at 10.26GB, and I'm pretty sure it's been like that out of the box as well, maybe a bit less.
And my cache sits around 500MB.
Either way, go to your settings-apps and disable what you don't use. After that use some sort of a cleaning app, like Clean Master and run it. Just make sure you uninstall it after you're done.
If none of that helps, I'd do a complete format and clean flash via FlashTool, or use xperia companion to repair the software.
40GB for system storage seems a bit extreme. Maybe I'm just not that heavy user, but I don't see how the user can even affect the system storage, apart from cache. Even when updating OTA, I'm pretty sure those downloaded packages get deleted afterwards.
For most of the useless stock apps, you don't need root to disable them, it is not the same as completely removing them while rooted, but it will still free up some storage space and prevent them from running in the background.

Brother. I already did that. Nothing changes. The only way is root it and remove ( not only disable ) the apps using titanium backup ( or some program like that ). Don't forget to make a backup from them before remove the apps.
But, i think that this process don't result in alot free space. Maybe when android compile the apk in cache the result naturaly takes this space. I have a 64gb XZ and this issue really annoying me too. If i discovery something i share with you.
Hey.....so i have twrp and after installing my lineage of choice i go to flash gapps
it flashes successfully (i install immediately after lineage)
But upon setup and boot up....i cant download even a single app from the PLAY STORE as it displays an error.
Its quite random as i find that the error disappears when i flash again but also it might not and so am confused on what to do and what am doing right to skip that error
Summary: I have just done a clean install of lineage and gapps but when i want to download an app it shows an insufficient storage error....when i still have like the whole phone storage to use. (no restore from backup was done so phone is empty)
Help....
Thanks
Edit: i made it clear its an issue in playstore not in twrp...as i can handle up until stock gapps.
The error gets triggered if not enough free storage space in partition /system and/or /vendor. Just try with micro version of GApps.

i use pico and i can even use stock if i want, device is quite capable ...im saying that i cant download an app in play store as it shows an insufficient storage error hence am confused as i have storage cause i just finished a clean install of lineage
Then storage space in /data and/or /cache partition isn't sufficient. Take note that when downloading an app from Google Play Store in addition to APK's download-size extra ~500MB are needed.

Have you tried going to system settings>applications then finding and selecting the Playstore on the list of apps then tap "storage" then wiping cache and storage for the Playstore app, then reboot the device?
Or
Have you tried booting into recovery and wiping cache and dalvik cache then reboot the device?

i have my whole phone storage as i just flashed lineage and gapps successfully....granted its not a lot of storage (its 16gb) i should at least be able to download a 6.1 mb app in playstore....right?

ye i tried the second one and the first one( i didnt restart though) but its not a playstore issue as even in the device file explorer it does not show the internal storage hence the files are not even accessible but the storage size is still seen in settings but i just cant access them....its weird
When in Android's Settings menu tap Storage, tap Advanced, wait for seconds the internal storage gets loaded, tap on internal storage: you'll be shown all the categories in your phone's internal storage. From this you can attain which storage folder or category is taking up huge amount of space in your phone internal storage.

Try another clean install of your ROM and a different gapps package, there may be something wrong with your gapps file, it has been known to happen.
Or, try a clean install of your ROM but do not install gapps, then, reboot into system but do not sign in yet, then power off and boot back into recovery and flash your gapps then reboot. This has been known to fix many issues with flashing ROMs and gapps.

Simplest way to fix your problem is too head back into Twrp recovery and perform a Factory Reset.

your solution seems as the most likely to work so i have marked it as the solution but what i did was just flash stock rom and mounted system in the stock recovery and cleared cache and did a factory reset and boot into the stock rom then i reflashed twrp and flashed the lineage and gapps
that worked
On second thought... im marking this as the solution cause i feel its assured to work cause you are going back to the stock rom and its default system partition and i never had issues flashing when i came from the stock rom.
i even flashed the aroma gapps
Thanks for the help guys...i appreciate it

this did not work....i cleared everything and even formatted data
I don’t know if you found the solution but if didn’t format data clean your phone
Download the version you want make sure both the lineage and gaps are the same in my case I got lineage-18.1 and mindTheGapps 11
Because lineage 18.1 is 11 I tried other gapps but most didn’t work
Then after copy the both files directly in phone internal storage or if your phone supports SDcard put them in there
1st install the gapps.zip then the lineage.zip then reboot system and vwala Insufficient storage gone everything should work including all google apps if chrome or Gmail is missing download in playstore or use browser to download The apk
On mine, I just wiped cache and dalvik cache, then did a dirty flash of opengapps (which was what I'd already been using prior to the TWRP restore), and that fixed it, so that might be a less destructive option for some people.

The problem is lack of space in the system.
The gapps is not supported in many LineageOSes:
Google apps | LineageOS Wiki
wiki.lineageos.org
This worked for me on two One Plus One phones:
Further down in the page they recommend MindTheGapps (not gapps) with Lineage 18.1 (Android 11) .

This one I have not tried - resizing system:

Got error 70 while installing Gapps in TWRP? This error prompts up when your partition storage size is lesser than the size of the respective Gapps package.

The ‘resize’ action should really be called something else since it doesn’t do anything unless there’s unallocated partitions lying around....
If you actually want to resize, you’ll have to download a version of TWRP that has hh_repart. A version that worked for me is described here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/...h-for-nexus-5-hammerhead-discontinued.4047653 .. I used this custom TWRP: https://sourceforge.net/projects/hammerhead-twrp/ which successfully bumped my Nexus 5 from a 1GB to 1.44GB, enough to put on Lineage 18.1 and OpenGapps Arm 11.0 Pico.
