Recently switched to CM11 nightly, and while trying to install some app, I got insufficient storage message. Now what the.... ????
1) I started reading forum after forum, some suggested to clear, davlik cache and cache from recovery, don that did not helped.
2) Others suggested to delete everything from /data/app-lib/app-path/lib but none of my app's had LIB sub-directory in /data/app-lib/app-path/
3) Others suggested to use Lucky Patcher to get rid of unused odex files. Done that but no odex files found.
4) Other suggested to get rid of applications cache, done - no result.
5) Dumpstate/logcat does not exists (no such directory as /data/log )
I still have over 450 Mb of storage available on the phone, but I cannot install any app.....
This drives me mental.
Any ideas please?
Thanks.

Do a clean install.
How?...
Do a factory reset and flash the last snapshot. I think the last one was M7.
If your problem persists after that, you're dealing with a hardware issue.

I did a full data wipe and I installed CM 10.2 stable, annoying enough google failed to restore to the device, so I had to redo everything. Anyway even with CM 10.2 after a FULL wipe I'm still facing the same issue. My device reports that I have more than 500 Mb free space, but I cannot install new software, however I can copy and download to it without any problems....
It's not a major think I cannot leave with out, just it's quite frustrating...

i've been running cm11m7 on my relay for about a month now, and even with a bunch of apps installed, and letting touchdown (my work email app) use internal storage for emails and attachments, i still have 3.5gb free on internal.
my guess is you have a ton of large apps using up all your internal storage.
how much free space do you see when you go into settings/storage immediately after you do a clean install of CM? skip the google account stuff during first-time setup so it doesn't try to sync apps/etc, so you get a good, accurate measurement.
for reference, mine shows a total of 5.06gb, with 3.52gb available. 1.51gb used by apps, 2.31mb pictures, 352k audio, 5.5mb downloads, 102mb cached, and 7.82mb misc. that's not counting my SD card, which doesn't have any apps on it. just MP3s, pictures, backups (titanium) and other misc files i keep around for work. i'm thinking after a fresh install, you should have at least 4.5gb free.
when i go into apps and sort by size, firefox (surprisingly) takes the most at 307mb, then google text to speech with 263mb (because i downloaded the high quality english pack), then touchdown at 100mb, chrome at 78mb, onenote at 64mb, kindle at 56mb, and it just goes down from there.

I'm not so sure it's a hardware issue.
Dear OP:
Question 1
Are you still having this issue? If not, what was the workaround?
Question 2
What app are you using in order to download and install the software you're installing?
Question 3
What's the exact error message you're getting? Please provide a screenshot if possible.
Question 4
The Google Play store definitely requires 500 megs free before it will install anything. Other software installation methods may also have their own odd requirements.
500 mebibytes equals 524.288 megabytes.
Let's round that number (524.288) up to 550 megs.
Try freeing up 550 megs, then try installing a small app (one which requires 3 MB of storage space or less). Can you install it successfully?
Did you manage to solve the issue , i too have the same problem . I have more than 5gb free on internal storage

Im trying to install google earth on Vegan , but it keeps telling me it cant be installed, and that I need to free up some space.
However, i have like 80mb free on the internal memory.
I thought this had like 2gb of space. I dont have THAT much installed!
Also, when i try to move anything to the SD card, it says it failed to move it.
Do i need to re-partition my SD card?
I already tried fixing the permissions
I think u need to repartition. Look up the guide on the market and clockworkmod installs. Its described in one of thosehl how to do it
Thats kinda what I assumed - Im working on backing up everything right now - gonna backup, move to comp. format and repartition, then recover everything -
Is 2048 / 0 still the best option with Vegan?
DAMN!
I spent a good 20 minutes backing up, wiping, and restoring the Gtab
try to install and Voila, still unable to install!!!
does restoring the data break the partitioning?

If you are restoring system data it may do bad things... Did you repartition the sdcard to 2048/0? That normally fixes that problem. Anything bigger than 2048 causes problems.
Damn, thats not what I wanted to hear.
I thought Google Earth will not install on the gTablet? You may have wasted a lot of time for nothing. Google Earth is INFAMOUS for not installing on various Android devices.
Seems repartition was on the extreme side for this situation. I recall getting a similar error with GE on gTablet and stopped, since also got it on my Incredible a few times and others on their different devices, based on reading other forums.
Well i re-partitioned, and after loading up vegan i was able to install Google earth without issue - running was another story. Now to try to figure out if there is a way to fix my current install without having to re-set Everything back up
Hello,
I'm experiencing an issue with Gingerbread or ICS ROMs with Sense whereby i reach a point of trying to install apps and I receive the error 'Insuffcient Storage Available'.
Meanwhile I typcially have over 100mb available on the internal memory and 11GB available on the SD card.
I've tried:
- cleaning cache
- uninstalling apps (temporarily works until more apps are installed)
- fixing permissions
- using recovery to wipe cache and dalvik cache
- also removed SD card and tried installing apps, this still fails
I seem to notice the error with Sense based ROMs and can't recall if I have experienced this with MIUI ROMs.
I'm unsure what else to try and I'm wondering if anyone has more insight how to resolve this problem permantly so I can install more apps.
Any help is indeed appreciated, so thank you in advanced.
P.S. Current Phone info:
ROM - InsertCoin ICS Sense ROM 4.0.6
Phone - HTC Sensation
Fully rooted, SuperCID'd, current 4EXT touch recovery
This may be obvious but......have you moved your already installed apps to SD? The ones that can be moved.
I've had the same problem, but rebooting usually fixed it for me.

The problem is not insufficient internal storage, it is some cache or market data. Since you have cleared cache, try going into Manage Apps, go to the market, and clear data. That fixed it for me before.
I've had my TF101 since it first came out, and I've run plenty or ROMs over it and had a good ol' jolly time. Recently, when I had a movie on a USB stick and tried to move it to the external storage, the system would just sit there. ES File Explorer showed a status bar that never moved.
I tried a couple other file managers - no go.
Today I took it up and tried to move over a file via USB (it's running ICS) and the progress bar didn't move.
Okay, Recovery mode >> Factory reset / Wipe cache / Wipe Dalvik >> Boot into ICS.
Now it let me copy over files!
I installed Revolution, the latest version, onto it and used the Full Wipe which does an EXT4 format. So all is well until I start performing actions related to the internal storage.
As I was re-downloading apps, I decided to grab an offline map from Google. At the same time; all apps stopped downloading and the Google Maps download failed.
At this point, it will often tell me that the Google Play Store has stopped unexpectedly. It will also not let me resume or cancel any download. Any attempt to force stop an app or clear its cache or delete its data will simply not yield a response. I can still run around the OS and click things.
I tried this while a MicroSD was plugged in and while it wasn't. It happens when the dock is connected or disconnected. It happened on my old EOS nightly and on the current Revolution. This leads me to believe it's likely a formatting or hardware problem. Any thoughts?
Also, thank you so much for taking the time to read through this.
TL;DR? Internal storage craps out after mild use, tablet remains unfrozen.
Cheers,
Sacrosaint.
UPDATE:
I've been playing around with the device some more. After the 5 reboots or so that it took to install all my apps, I managed to save ~200MB of offline maps without an issue. Only when I then tried to install Google+ did I get an "Insufficient Storage" warning and a play store crash. Maybe this means something?
Reformat again using wipe data/factory reset 3 times. Then run superwipe.zip 12 times, to make Sure it works. Also make sure your CWM is a working version.
Make sure in storage that 'other' isn't taking up alot of space as well, logs can do this.
I have the same problem. I did try the multiple data wipes, followed by multiple SuperWipes (Full) and still no dice. It is not stable beyond 5 minutes of use. It crashes various programs and processes until it is in an unusable and unbootable state.
Help? Please?
StevieJake:crying:
This is an interesting reoccurring problem for some..
Early on we were getting some problems with this type of things and there was a fix via edited the superwipe script to allow a bit more in
one of the system partitions..will take me a little while to find the thread..might pay to have a look and see if this fixes it..
But it does bring up the question again and the need for a deep format that actually does a full wipe of everything..i was under the impression that that mike's superwipe did this..and Nvflash would do it too..i am meaning a one time run of these should do it..?
Therefore multi runs of these programs should not be needed..

Normally you can clear caches and it will work otherwise uninstall the app and reinstall. If you have to uninstall make a data backup first. What it equates to is the app dev didnt put a call in to remove the app prior to installing the new version. Ive run into this with Plague Inc. and Ive sent a bug report to the app dev. I suggest the same for whatever app you are having issues with.
I've tried the whole "clear your caches and fix your permissions" thing, and, at least from what I can tell, you can't install anything through Play/Market unless you have at least ~55 MB of space available (even if you are installing to microSD or replacing a currently installed app). I'm not sure quite where the threshold is, but it is somewhere around there.
I can't answer "Why?" as it is in Google proprietary code and I don't have the source available.
I have tried clearing caches and dalvic.. also reinstalled gapps.. can't get it to work..

Have you cleared data from Google Services Frameworks? That has fixed every market issue I've ever run into. If jeff is saying it's coded to not let you install with under 55mb of space left I believe him though.
I can't be sure it's "coded that way," but I haven't found a way to get Play/Market to install when I get down somewhere below 60 MB free space, including flashing a new ROM, clearing cache, fixing permissions, reinstalling gapps, and probably a few other things I've tried. There are definitely days when I wish someone would prove my theory wrong!
I believe Jeff no doubt but I have 66.1mb available..

i have this problem when there's an update for the "Dark Jelly" theme i have. i found the only way to get it to update really is to uninstall it and then re-install. i know its a pain in the arse, but its the only way i found to update it.
I had to move some apps from the internal storage to the SD card to overcome this problem. I'm on the Galaxy Beam rom
Apps2SD problem
My Apps2sd (in ROM toolbox) was set to install to SD card automatically and as soon as I changed it AUTO (location) problem was fixed.
Anyone know how to install Apps to the SD card by default? :S
I've been using Titanium Backup to manually move my apps to the SD card.
I'm on CM9, Hefe KoD.
Can U try this?

My husband's Galaxy S 4G is having the same problem with erroneous memory capacity error message. It seems happen after he adds an app. And we are not sure why the error message goes away WHEN it does go away. Can you clear the Google Services Frameworks without removing important info he has put in the apps, or will it delete any apps?. Sorry for my ignorance of the Android system.

If you're husband's phone is rooted then you can always back up his apps and app data with titanium backup or you can make a nandroid backup through cwm that way in case anything goes wrong you have a backup to fall back to

This worked for me, thank you !!
I was having trouble installing UberSocial. I could download and install every other app (smaller and bigger in file size) except for UberSocial.
Tried the Lucky Patcher method and worked like a charm.
BTW, I should mention I have a rooted S3 but found this thread via Google .
The Jelly bean rom takes up a lot internal memory, plus it installs most of the apps from the market to the internal memory instead of SD card. I don't why, maybe the devs can answer this. I had to remove the xbmc app (97mb) in order to install anything else.
Hit the thanks button if it helps. It's my motivator to be more helpful.
I use Titanium to move all data apps to SD, I also use History Eraser before updating apps so that at all times I have over 110MB free on internal mem.

Ive been working on a universal script to move stuff from internal to external, so far i have it down for my s3 and i could do one personally for the sgs4g but i want to make it universal since ALL ICS AND JB roms do this AND your storages are different when using stock compared to AOSP
Hi all,
I already searched around and could not find anything close to a solution. I have a huge ANNOYING problem. I haven't had this issue until recently. Or rather, I haven't noticed it until now. I flashed a new ROM coming from CM10 thinking it was the ROM, but I have tried two different ROMs and still the same problem. WTF!? I keep getting the message "Insufficient Space available" error when trying to install programs from Google Play or trying to side-load.
For some reason I have two internal storages when I look under storage in system settings. One is 1.97GB and the other is 11.24GB. In the smallest one, I have 209MB available. WTF!? Yet the other has 11.17GB. It's to the point where I have only 9 progrmas installed! 9!! Something's got to be wrong here, Please help!
What's the deal!? Anyone have a solution. I have done a factory reset and cleared everything. Still nothing. Any help is greatly appreciated.
*temporary fix*
OK, so I went in and cleaned out the folder /system/lost+found
It had 1.6gb of used space. Deleted it all and now I have that space available.
The main reason for this being a temporary fix is because I still have two internal storages. So eventually the 2gb where all the programs are being installed into, will run out again. So then phone is not taking advantage of all 14 GB available for storage.
-Carlos
Did you wipe data and caches?
I had this problem before, where I had gigabytes of files in the lost+found folder, which would take up the internal storage where apps are installed. When I went to another ROM, I did a clean flash, and even though I restored all apps from Google, I had much more space available.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I727 using xda app-developers app
I did all that. Just like always. Even before I flashed the new ROM, I cleared cache and wiped data. Even did Dalvik cache wipe. Still nothing.Where is this lost+found folder you speak of. Maybe go into it manually. But still doesn't explain all that available space.

Wipe data from google play services, google play, and google services frameworks. Clearing the data also wipes the cache for you. To do this go to Manage apps>all and pick those apps. It'll take some time to resync all your google info but after that you should be good.
So I just had this problem yesterday and what worked for me is to wipe Everything, except for the sd cards. That should clear out the data that is from your last rom.

My solution was to disable Sync App Data in my google account as I logged into a factory wiped phone. I had Despicable Me 2 installed on my tablet, but even though it wasn't installed on my phone it was still syncing the 600 (SIX HUNDRED) MB of App data (videos I assume?!). There is no easy way to know which apps are doing this(abusing data sync), especially if you have multiple devices using the same account but different app sets. Wiping /data and making sure not to sync app data was the only thing that worked for me. Once you are in, you may be able to delete that app data by delteing the app from the 'My Apps' 'All Apps' section, but there should really be a better way to manage this data.
Did anyone come up with a permanent fix for this? I have tried flashing several roms several times and always end up with the split storage.

I haven't found a permanent solution, but you can install apps on the external SD card. I think there is an Xposed module that will force apps onto the sd card as well.
