BT Problem - Microsoft Surface

I have a holux GPS BT receiver connected to use enroute navigation charts on the aeroplane.
So software is running and I start the BT on the surface pro 2 . they both talk to each other and all is good.
Now the system goes to stby either a lock screen or screen off .. When I wake up the system again the BT holux GPS receiver dosent connect.
I have to go to the BT setting and toggle On/Off and then it works again.
Anyone here working with BT GPS receivers know how we can avoid this.
Also in the charms there is shortcut for 6 icons ...one being flight mode...display...notification etc..
Can that be changed? I can add a BT toggle there in the mean while..
Thank you

Battery Life Really Poor on XDA II...

I've had my XDA II for a few weeks now and the battery life seems really poor. I don't have any long time limit backlight options set and if I use the PDA or phone, I need to pretty much charge it every 18 hours or so.
Any ideas if it's a problem or normal or what?
I've turned on my Bluetooth connection to see if that makes a difference, and then I'll turn it on only when I need it.
For automatic switching of Bluetooth on when it detects a signal and auto off when no signal i use Pocket Bluetooth Tools. u may want to check it out as BT always on will drain power. its common sense in that the more thats running the more power you will use. i dock my XDA2 everyday, i have a spare battery and its powered in the car so power issues are not a problem for me
You can get Pocket Bluetooth tools from here http://www.bluetooth.jazztel.es/download_e.html
NB. install Bluetooth tools and then bond your devices otherwise the auto on/off doesnt work as i found out.
For automatic switching of Bluetooth on when it detects a signal and auto off when no signal i use Pocket Bluetooth
Click to collapse
this apply only for using bluetooth for headset and recieving a call
nothing else
if you use your xda for bluetooth gps or activesync or ......... you have to be the active party and if another bluetooth device as a xda or a cellphoen try to send you stuff by bluetooth i'm pretty sure that bluetooth tools will not help you
Thanks for that advise. I thought the BT thing would kill my power.

i dont have a BT headset. i only use BT for my GPS. when i turn on my BT GPS, the Bluetooth Tools detects the signal and starts my BT stack. when i turn off the BT GPS, Bluetooth Tools turns off the BT stack off when no signal is received for >60 seconds.
As long as the device is bonded after Bluetooth Tools is installed i would say that the auto on/off function would work for all devices. the auto on/off would not work if i bonded my GPS before the BT Tools. Bond after installing BT Tools and the auto on/off works. just my experience with BT Tools but without any other devices myself i cannot confirm it will work for other devices.

TomTom disables BlueTooth on exit

Hi,
I use a BlueTrek earpiece (bluetooth) to enable handfree calling with my Qtek9100. I Also use TomTom Navigator.
When TomTom starts it enables the BlueTooth connections (if not allready active). This is usefull since I use a BlueTooth GPS with TomTom.
However, if I exit the TomTom Navigator application it is also disabeling BlueTooth, resulting in loosing the connection with the earpiece.
Does anybody know if this can be changed?
Perhaps a registry key I can change to solve this small, but annoyng, problem.
Gert-Jan
Turn on bluetooth before you start TomTom, then when you quit it should stay on. Does on my xda IIi anyway
The same on my magician. TT5.1 returns BT in the state it was before starting TT. TT5.0 however always shuts down BT on close.
Regards, M
I tested this last week, but came to the sam conclusion.
No matter what the state of BT, TomTom always disables BT on exit.

Ditto with my XDA2i running TomTom5 with a Qstarz BT-Q880. Slightly annoying.
However, if I press one of the hard buttons (such as the Contact List button), when the new window is brought up TomTom is minimised. Then, I can Switch (from hfrmobile.com) to Close All - and while this disconnects the GPS device, I've doublechecked and it doesn't disconnect my bluetooth headset, nor does it turn off the Bluetooth itself.
So, that in itself is a quick-and-dirty workaround hack, but I've not come up with any other solution thus far. Currently scouring the registry and the configuration files (what few there are) for a fix - it may be that someone with infinitely more coding ability needs to hack the TomTom .exe to disable this switchoff, though that's no mean feat.
You will probably find that if you reconfigure your GPS reciever in the Tomtom preferances as an "other wired receiver" select an appropriate baud rate, then select a Bluetooth com port, it will still work with a bluetooth GPS receiver but will completely leave your Bluetooth alone.
This does also mean it wont start it automatically if it's not allready on.
That doesn't work - the only way my Qstarz will work is if I configure it as Other Wired NMEA GPS and then run it on Bluetooth COM6, setting the baud rate appropriately (the Qstarz will accept any rate from 4800 to 115500 anyway, so that's rather irrelevant). Even if it's set as other wired GPS, the bluetooth is still disabled upon TT exiting.
This is also the info advised by the TomTom website if you're having problems getting your GPS to run with the software, so I'm guessing it's the only way. I'll have another look round the TT web site when I'm not so pushed for time.
What Tomtom version are you guys using? After a little play with mine I can say that with GPS setup as a bluetooth device. If bluetooth is on when I start Tomtom it stays on after I exit.
I use version 5.2 for Pocket PC
Well, small update - after having TomTom pop up the Bluetooth Manager box every time it starts up, and asking me which device I'd like to use as default, I managed to select the Qstarz Serial Port Connection shortcut which I created (had to manually create the link after setting up the device pairing) - I checked the option to Use this connetion by default, and now TomTom leaves the Bluetooth turned on after it exits!
Smashing stuff, means I can now use my headset and TomTom simultaneously in the car.
This is with TomTom 5.000 (4890) with GPS driver v1.20 and using the Great Britain Plus Map (v571). Bosh!
I get something different on my QTEK S100. When the QTek starts receiving the GPS signal (via bluetooth), TomTom freezes the screen for about 2 seconds and then closes TomTom.
Any ideas about this problem?
Is it because I had "MagicButton" installed? I uninstalled it, did soft reset... but the problem is still there. I can I know if it is MAgicButton doing that?
Thanks

looking for a bluetooth toggler app (NOT on/off)

hello all.
I am looking for an app that will allow me to easily toggle between 2 or more BT devices. Here's the deal, i have 2 BT devices, one that is a headset with a2dp and another that is for my PC VOIP but also can switch to my 8525... what i want to be able to do is quickly and easily change which BT device is the primary on my cell... is there anything like this available?
thanks!
does anyone have any program that will do this?
Batterystatus using the bluetooth tray icon has a a2dp switch. Dunno if that helps you. Works for me.
i don't need a a2dp switcher... i have multiple headsets that i use regularly and just want to be able to click to activate device 1, then 6 hours later, when the device is dead, activate device 2... any thoughts?
Maybe a mortscript?

Bluetooth turns off randomly

Hi,
I am using my HTC Touch Pro with an Opel Vectra built-in bluetooth carkit.
All functions, like browsing the address book and call registers, are working fine. However, at random times, my carkit reports no phone. When I then check my Touch Pro's bluetooth status, I see that it is has been disabled.
After manually re-enabling it, I can pair with my carkit for as long as it takes for bluetooth to turn itselves off again.
I've already tested with JETware, but that does not change anything. Also tried the universal broadcom bluetooth stack, but doesn't seem to work on the Touch Pro. HTC only comes with a standard answer that they don't support all carkits and headsets... Since the BT stack on the phone seems to crash, I don't think it's a carkit issue.
Anyone here with the same issue? And maybe a solution?
Thanks and regards!!
Start -> Settings -> Connections -> Bluetooth -> Timeout (tab). Turn off Visible mode set to "Never".
I think this must be your problem.
Hi Freco,
Thanks for your reply! This option is set. However it's not really the visibility that turns to invisible, but the whole bluetooth stack is being turned off completely. Need to fully re-enable it via Comm Manager.
Any other options? Does anyone know if there is a working broadcomm stack for the Touch Pro?
Regards!
Hi,
I have exactly the same problem with a Vauxhall kit, I have tried all sorts of things, but nothing seems to work
try:
start -> settings -> connections -> bluetooth
timeout tab
select 'never' from drop down box
Hi Brendo,
Unfortunately this doesn't solve the issue. Once paired, the connection even works without being visible. It's also not a fixed period of time before the disconnect takes place (can be within a minute, sometimes after half an hour). However, the whole bluetooth icons disappears from the top icon bar and comm manager shows it's turned off completely.
Hope somebody has any other ideas, because the only thing HTC can do is point to the carkit vendor :-(. Since all functionality is there when connected and the phone is turning off BT in some way, I really don't think this is caused by the carkit vendor. I should at least expect BT to stay enabled on the phone.
Thanks!
Yes, same here, BTW I have tried this in my Friends Saab, and the same problem.
same problem here with a Opel DVD90 buildin bluetooth carkit.
With other htc phones it always worked like a charm, but my mda vario IV continuously disconnects after a random time period and shuts down the complete stack.
Try this!
I have the same problem with my opel with original bluetooth-kit (2007). On the touch pro I changed the band and network from auto to GSM, as G3 reseption in this area is quit poor, especialy while driving. It helped for me, at least the last few days. I agree this has been an annoying problem.
I have tried to switch to "GSM only mode" in the past, but as far as I remember it does not completely solve the issue. However, I will give it another shot! Actually I can't figure out at what point it occurs... It can happen within a minute or after half an hour without using any funtion.
Does one of you know if there is a way to do some debugging on the Bluetooth stack?
And has anyone experience with other Windows Mobile 6.1 based phones in this combination (just curious if it's a WM issue or HTC only)?
Furthermore I did some tests with JetWare. You should be able to limit the number of synchronised items then (might be related to this issue). However, it looks like this configured limit is being totally ignored: when I limit my recent call list to 5 with JetWare, it still syncs about 25 items. Anyone tested with Jetware?
I have tried the GSM only mode, this didn't help either
I have now given up and got myself a Nokia E66, which works perfectly.
All contacts are pushed to car, no disconnects and AD2P works so my mp3 ringtones play through the car speakers! Sweet
Word of note, I had issues with N-Series phones, would connect ok, but contacts would not push.
I have the samen problem with my HTC Touch Pro and Saab.
bluetooth pairs just fine with my pioneer bluetooth enabled deck, but the problem iwth mine is once i receive a call sometimes no sound comes from the car, instead the earpiece is still on. but if i initiate the call first sound works just fine and earpiece on the phone is disabled, BUT once the call is ended bluetooth disconnects randomly and the phone takes a good 1-2min to reconnect. i absolutely hate the bluetooth on this phone!

I am having the same problems you describe. Anyone got an suggestions???
I encountered the same problem; first with an opel udp carkit and next with the bluetooth interface software from homeseer.
It has something to do with phone signal loss.
With the opel carkit I noticed bluetooth automatically turns off when the phonesignal switched from 3g to gsm.
I also noticed that in my home, BT turns off whenever I have been in a room with no phone-signal reception.
try this thread, both registry change and attached cab file, reset. DOn't worry if the make visible to all option is unchecked.

Wifi kind of sucks, but BT is great!

Wifi connectivity seems to not recover well when waking the device. In fact, i have to keep it from going to sleep when it's mounted on my dash in the car so i don't lose the wifi link from either my RAZR or MiFi while driving. i have WiFi sleep policy set to never and it still does it.
In regards to Bluetooth it's much better than my original Galaxy Tab, where when i tried to do music via BT to the car's stereo (BT FIPO adapter to 30-pin ipod dock adapter on car's cd changer input), plus connection to an OBDII Bluetooth adapter (Torque app) - it would have frequent stutters.
With this 7 Plus, i can be SIMULTANEOUSLY connected to both BT devices and switch between Spotify, Mortplayer, Navigation, Torque w/ no stuttering or lag. Also nice that now my car's steering wheel controls actually work better going through the BT on the FIPO to the ipod adapter (only track next/last toggle).
I wish Navigon and CoPilot didn't crash/lag so much, though.
Also the Stowaway folding bluetooth keyboard i used to use with my old UMPCs works well with this tablet.
My wifi would disconnect constantly when I was in a different room than the router. I used a wifi analyzer to view the channels and had the router use a channel that wasn't as busy. Works a lot better now. But I had no issues before hand with any other device.
I've turned off the power save due to the Linux kernel bug and dealing with the sleep of death bug. Helps wifi too you might want to try it out.
