Hi
Probably you have faced android thumbnail issue, huge thumbnail file eats your storage free space, for this trick you have to be rooted and twrp installed, boot your phone into recovery,go to advance file manager, select this folder DCIM/.thumbnail,first delete huge files in this folder then chmod this folder by clicking on select to 0440,this will change permission to just read for user and group, done! No more thumbnail [emoji4]

Hey guys,
Any idea? I have tried the method that putting the .nomedia file in the folder. But it's still not working because I can see the texture of the game in the gallery. You know, it's so annoying.
Is there any way for me to choose the folder of gallery using the official one?
----------------------------EDIT-----------------------------------
I've checked the file and the file surely is named ".nomedia". But the problem is still right here. So...any idea?
Side question: Will this method be applied to other sub folders automatically?
---------------------------Solution----------------------------------
After putting the .nomedia, you have to clear the data of both gallery and media storage. Then, reboot it and...the problem is solved.
Isn't the file supposed to be named .nomedia?
I'm sure Android will try to read a .txt file, so it wont work to exclude that folder.
+1
it supposed to be .nomedia

I've tried in my SGS2 and it didn't work till I rebooted the phone (maybe the images are cached on boot/init). Could you try rebooting to see if it works?
It should ignore all files and subfolders where .nomedia is placed.
Is this Monopoly youre playing? this also happened to me and I also got the answer here on XDA.
After you put the .nomedia file in the main folder do not reboot yet. clear the cache of both the "gallery" AND "media storage", now you can reboot and see the effects that nomedia has on your gallery.

Hey, you are the man! I have clear the date of both gallery and media storage. After rebooting, the annoying pictures are gone! It's just awesome to keep my gallery "clean". Thank you guys.
After playing around and installing different ROMs, I noticed a folder called 'vrtheme' on the sdcard. Not my biggest concern, except for the fact that my galleries are scanning that folder, which in turn lists about 10 folders with pictures.
I've tried everything to remove this folder, but keep getting a permission denied error. I've tried simply adding a .nomedia file, but can't modify the folder whatsoever. I cannot rename any files, can't move them either, can't add files.
Please provide any other suggestions. Thank you!
Copy everything important from your storage then perform a /sdcard wipe in recovery. This is assuming the file is on your internal storage.

Connect your phone to PC,run adb shell in CMD,and get root permission(su),and then, delete it(rm -r).
the current/default config of viber for its received images is
/sdcard/viber/media/viber images
im not an android expert, but i learned that "to hide" a folder, we simply put a period/dot (.) before it
so if we want to hide photos folder from the gallery, we simply rename the folder into .photos
and the contents of the .photos folder would no longer be displayed on the gallery
however, i dont wanna rename the /sdcard/viber/media/viber images folder because i'm 99.9% sure, there would be conflict with viber settings
question:
how do i change the received files folder of viber so that i can direct its download/storage to .whatever folder?
just wanna follow-up..
You can add an empty .nomedia file to any folder you want to hide from image apps. Every good image app will respect this and will not show images in such folders ...

genius! it indeed hide the images inside the said folder
but i have another prob..
when i wanted to "show" the image files again, when i deleted the .nomedia file
still the images are not displayed
it has become irreversible
how do i revert the process?
huhuhu
You probably have to kill the image app (or maybe clear it's cache) and restart it. It depends on the image app, but it of course can cache data...
QuickPic is good and has an entry in the menu to hide and unhide folders and to show hidden folders as well... hiding a folder in there does just add and delete such a .nomedia file
I didn't start having this problem until i loaded an app called "CLEAN SWEEP, and " Whats APP".. does any one of these apps change some properties that are hard to find that now makes any of my pictures i download from my messaging app, or camera go straight to "MY FILES" instead of showing in MY GALLERY like they used to do. I have deleted the old download folder to see if it wold start a new one , and it did, but still is not showing up in my gallery, just my files. the only pics showing up in my gallery are the ones on my sd card. can some one please help us out here.. galaxy s5 owner

Check the folder where you stored your pics...
For a file called "no media" if u found that delete it...
If this doesn't work delete the . thumbnail folder in DCIM folder.....this should work...
But to see that file or folder.. Hidden files must be shown via file manager...
If you not found that connect ur device to pc or laptop then delete that folder....
Hope this helps

Ok I just want to make sure of no catastrophic failures, lol.. I opened "my files" clicked device storage, and scrolled all the way to last files listed without opening any folder, and I see a file called .nomedia, is this the file? You did say open a folder to find this file, but in this case its not in a folder. 2, I clicked on .thumbnails in the DCIM folder and I see images, when I delete this file, will I now loose these images? I am awaiting further instructions before I do anything, because I have moved to quickly before and lost a lot of images before.. Please and thank you for your assistance.

If u delete images in . thumbnail folder.... Your images will be fine....its just a cache folder which is generated to show images on gallery... Dont worry u can delete it and delete the. Nomedia file....
And u will get your images...

Hi guys! I have an Xperia Z3 D6633 running on official Android version 6.0.1 with build number 23.5.a.1.291 rooted. My problem is that almost 5.0 GB of my internal storage is consumed by ".thumbnails" folder which I want to delete. I have searched some solutions and found out that normally people get some free space till these files reappear and in the mean time they can make this space useful but the case is different here. I have tried to delete this folder and all the containing files but even though the folder disappears for some time, I still don't get any free space even for a short time and the files start to reappear after some time. I don't have any Gallery other than the Album app and as it cannot be deleted, I have tried disabling but the problem still remains. I have also tried creating a new folder with the same name but the system would rename it to ".thumbnails 1" and another folder with the name ".thumbnails" would reappear . I had the same problem also with Lollipop on this device. I use FILE KOMMANDER, it is the system app.
Any help is highly appreciated.
Try MiXplorer from XDA (file commander isnt so good) then delete the .thumbs folder
Try Ccleaner from play store
Try SD Maid from play store
Try clearing data from Settings - apps - Media Storage (all your media will appear to be gone. It is still there but the phone wont see it until you reboot / download and run Media.re.scan from play store)
I wouldn't really know what else to suggest other than a clean install of your ROM even if it is stock as this seems like a bug

thumbnails folder store preview for all of your photos that you see on your gallery app (taken w camera or from whatsapp), if you want a smaller folder, transfer some pics to your pc or go cloud with google photos

FYI .thumbnails folder will always exist to make android media work properly, easiest method is delete those folder (.thumbnails) then create file named .thumbnails
In my case I'm using es file explorer, best file manager ever for me
You should accept all consequences, app that using photo preview from Android Media will not show or buggy (ie. Instagram, Facebook)
