MOAR | fully recommended for legacy & old devices <3 | 11/1/15 | sched_tuner v1.0.8 - Android Software/Hacking General [Developers Only]

MOAR | fully recommended for legacy & old devices <3 | 11/1/15 | sched_tuner v1.0.8
this MOD is VERY COMPATIBLE with any other MODs.
have fun!
n00bs, READ OR GTFO!!
this is my final stance of trying to make a quality mod compared to other all-in-one package "MOD"z (basically just simple all-in-one tweakz and crap)
hope you appreciate my work. -hoholee12-
pretty much most of these mods here will be more compatible if your device is older, or has older(or outdated) Android versions!
i originally designed it for Galaxy S(yes, the 2010 phone xDDD) in mind....these engines dates back to 2012-2013 on theory & small implementation, now repackaged as full version for better use!
if you get the necessary api missing error message before the menu shows up, you should NOT use wakelock sheriff and scaudiofix. they are likely to glitch out and cause havok!!
you need a "properly" working busybox and BASH interpreter to run this MOD.
you can get BASH from here.
you can get busybox from here.
for whitelisting apps on wakelock sheriff & stuff about thread booster and how to apply it, please read the end of the manual on the 7th option. :3
TL;DR how to:
download the sched_tuner_updater.zip and flash it.
type in terminal:
Code:
su -c bash
sched_tuner
all done.

latest revision can be found here!: https://raw.githubusercontent.com/hoholee12/avcore/master/sched_tuner.sh
new update bypasses debugfs limitation. users can now use extra boot tweaks and engines without debugfs.NOTE: two 'not supported' lines will occasionally appear instead of lists.(its not a bug, it means your device dont support debugfs.)

Galaxy Note II running wakelock_sheriff, look how much this thing saves battery!!(it wasnt like this before)
My older Galaxy S(5 yrs old with almost degraded battery!) running wakelock_sheriff. before this, it would go off in 6 hours, now it stays almost at the same level while going for more than 13 hours!!
what does it do?
-scAudioFix: this is a new engine i have developed since v0.0.6(released as a working state on v0.0.7). it controls cpu clock speed to avoid throttling when mediaserver process bursts out for resources, therefore it has an effect of killing audio skipping, or audio stutters when playback.
do NOT get confused over its name, its more than just lagfixing audios. it also saves battery by monitoring mediaserver process in realtime!
-rtmixman: continuation of my older project that has been widely used and loved by android community.
it adjusts minfree values so that heap allocation will be faster and supposedly boost general performance.
mpengine entry was replaced by rtmixman in v0.0.9
-boot tweaks: literally boot tweaks. these are the tweaks that cannot be done after boot.(such as changing system_server priority)(i am the only one who discovered this exploit, yay me!)
you will have to make the script to run on boot in order to make boot tweaks work.
-wakelock sheriff: a relatively new engine, introduced in v1.0.0(at the time i wrote this)
when your device goes to sleep, this will detect any processes that are hogging up the cpu and end them silently. thus prolonging battery life.
it has similar mechanism as scAudioFix. its algorithm is much faster than scAudioFix.
even if the cycle is fast enough, cpu may wake up periodically from this engine too.
its recommended to set a longer sleep time(default: 1min)
-thread booster: continuation of my older project(thread priority booster beta: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2076101)
this will boost foreground applications to have more cpu resources than any other, resulting in smoother and less laggy performance!

Recommended for use with other disk I/O tweaks.(the only area this mod doesnt cover.....)
(new version)v0.0.3(and up) now installs extra bootup tweaks when set on boot.
boot time may increase(since it changes boot priorities on zygote process), but in exchange, smoothness scrolling speed will last much more.

how to install = guide on installing a mod installer
STEP1) download the attachment posted below-->sched_tuner.pdf
STEP2)remove the extension name(and you can change the file name to whatever you'd like)(mine's 'sched_tuner'.)
P.S. you can also change the file name itself to something YOU would like to name it with. e.g.) iloveyou.sh
STEP3)put it in /system/bin, /sbin or /system/xbin(any folder that contains posix applets) = recommended for speed
Or... you can rename it to 'sched_tuner.sh'(extension 'sh' means its an executable script) and install the script like this-->(open the terminal emulator first and then...)
Code:
$ bash sched_tuner.sh --install -s /system/xbin
found it!
please wait...
program file already exists. overwrite? (y/n) y
copying files...
================================================================================
install complete!
type 'sched_tuner' to run the program!
$
all done! now you can go to the 'how to use' section.
if you are too stupid to follow the instructions and would rather want to flash the zip instead, download sched_tuner_updater.zip and flash it.
Click to collapse
NOTE: this will basically copy itself(the installer) to the directory where it should be installed.
how to use
(if you have done the "how to install" correctly,) open the terminal, and do this:
Code:
sched_tuner
you will be greeted with this:
Code:
scheduling features tuner v0.0.3
current scheduling features list:
GENTLE_FAIR_SLEEPERS [COLOR="Red"]is ON.[/COLOR]
START_DEBIT [COLOR="Red"]is ON.[/COLOR]
WAKEUP_PREEMPT [COLOR="Red"]is ON.[/COLOR]
AFFINE_WAKEUPS [COLOR="Red"]is ON.[/COLOR]
generally, [COLOR="Lime"]GREEN[/COLOR] is considered OK, while [COLOR="Red"]RED[/COLOR] is NOT OK.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
select an option:
1)disable everything(speedhack!)
2)set the tweak on boot(init with few extra tweaks)
3)backup list
4)restore list/uninstall
5)refresh list
6)exit
you want to test the performance improvement before installing it to your device?
then the first thing you would want to do is select 1st one: disable everything(speedhack!)
--> this is the fastest way to see the performance improvement on the fly!(also temporary.)
you should see:
Code:
scheduling features tuner v0.0.3
current scheduling features list:
GENTLE_FAIR_SLEEPERS [COLOR="lime"]is OFF.[/COLOR]
START_DEBIT [COLOR="lime"]is OFF.[/COLOR]
WAKEUP_PREEMPT [COLOR="lime"]is OFF.[/COLOR]
AFFINE_WAKEUPS [COLOR="lime"]is OFF.[/COLOR]
generally, [COLOR="Lime"]GREEN[/COLOR] is considered OK, while [COLOR="Red"]RED[/COLOR] is NOT OK.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
select an option:
1)disable everything(speedhack!)
2)set the tweak on boot(init with few extra tweaks)
3)backup list
4)restore list/uninstall
5)refresh list
6)exit
and then, if you want to install it for daily use, go ahead and press: '2)set the tweak on boot(init with few extra tweaks)'
you will have to reboot your device in order to see extra improvements after that.
after you reboot, you will see:
Code:
scheduling features tuner v0.0.3
current scheduling features list:
GENTLE_FAIR_SLEEPERS [COLOR="lime"]is OFF.[/COLOR]
START_DEBIT [COLOR="lime"]is OFF.[/COLOR]
WAKEUP_PREEMPT [COLOR="lime"]is OFF.[/COLOR]
AFFINE_WAKEUPS [COLOR="lime"]is OFF.[/COLOR]
[color="yellow"]looks like the mod is already installed.[/color]
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
select an option:
1)disable everything(speedhack!)
2)set the tweak on boot(init with few extra tweaks)
3)backup list
4)restore list/uninstall
5)refresh list
6)exit
it means the setup was successful.
NOTE: more and more mods will be included on newer versions.

NOTE: -do NOT move or delete the installer when a mod was applied on boot. sched_tuner_task will fail to find the installer location and fall in endless loop, resulting in a battery drain.
-also remind that installing(or moving) the mod installer to any location inside system(or data) partition will speed up the modding process every boot.(if you had the installer located on sdcard while applying the mod on boot, the task will have to wait till the sdcard gets mounted on every boot.)
how to self-troubleshoot
if nothing shows up on terminal screen except things that looks like an error such as: "error code 1",
don't freak out and just do what i say:
Code:
sched_tuner --bbpass
if it still don't work, do:
Code:
sched_tuner --verbose
or do:
Code:
sched_tuner --verbose --bbpass
and post the output right here.

Does it modify any system files? Or just installs itself in the init.d folder? Any requirements do I need before installing the mod? If possible, how do I remove it? Sorry for asking so many questions, want to be sure before flashing this on MIUI rom.

Can you put extra detail on how to install this? I'm getting a bit confused. The terminal can't find the file that I want to install. Maybe a video guide would help? And does it conflict with other mods?

i managed it with stericson busybox installer and smanager. first looked where busybox is located, moved file to it, Renamed as .sh and selected as executable with su rights + install arguments. Then use terminal to start

I still think a video guide would be better. HeathenMen can you make one? It'll be very useful for people with installing problems.

Questions
A few questions I'm confused about in the OP. You're referring to CPU Schedulers so is this tweak adjusting i/o schedulers or cpu governors. I usually dont see terminology as "CPU scheduler" Or is it not doing anything with either of what I mentioned. Reason being I'm running a performance gov with screen on and don't want slow that down as with greenify and screen dim, etc I have amazing battery life with screen on performance gov. But I of course want more performance out of my phone.
Thanks
Josh

Yes universal but not all kernel have sched feature
Run : my error /sys/kernel/sched_features: no such file or directory
I see with root explore and yes file not found

i added a fix. please redownload.
some kernels dont have debugfs mounted at boot. this might fix it

Not able to create init.d folder or create scripts within folder b/c read-only. I'm using custom AEL kernel with init.d support, folder already there with several scripts, used root explorer making directory r/w, but still read-only error. This error happens in terminal after typing su, then sched_tuner, then option 2. Option 1 works, just can't stick on boot. Script works great, thanks for help.

..::Start-Up script Explanation::..
# Remount all partitions with noatime
atime is a setting where the filesystem updates the access time of a file. This creates a write-after-every-read which slows things down. By default all partitions are mounted with relatime, which is an optimized version of atime. noatime is the fastest, and afaik we don't need atime.
# Tweak cfq io scheduler
Tweaked settings of the disk io scheduler more for flash memory. Defaults are optimized for spinning harddisks. Lowered the idle wait, re-enable the low latency mode of cfq, removed the penalty for back-seeks and explicitly tell the kernel the storage is not a spinning disk.
# Tweak kernel VM management
Set tendency of kernel to swap to minimum, since we don't use swap anyway.
Lower the amount of unwritten write cache to reduce lags when a huge write is required.
Increase tendency of kernel to keep block-cache to help with slower RFS filesystem.
Increase minimum free memory, in theory this should make the kernel less likely to suddenly run out of memory.
# Tweak kernel scheduler
Make the task scheduler more 'fair' when multiple tasks are running. This has a huge effect on UI and App responsiveness. These values (less aggressive settings) are 20% of the Linux defaults, and about half of the Android defaults.

The modified kernel allow you to run custom bootanimations and init.d scripts. I also enabled tvout. Since the DK28 kernel is not open source yet. I modded the initramfs which makes up part of the kernel. But for now this is all we can do until the kernel source is released into the wild.
If my memorize serves me correctly you need to change ro.setupwizard.mode=DISABLED to ro.setupwizard.mode=OPTIONAL

- Made the package lighter by removing some unused left-over files from previous versions
v2.1.1
- Fixed missing chmod script which was preventing init.d scripts from running
- Possible fix for the apps that aren't installed properly on some devices
v2.1
Introducing a new tweaks selection screen : Pimp my Kernel
--> Tweak 6 of the most common CPU Governors : Ondemand//OndemandX//Interactive//SmartassV2//Lulzactive//Conservative
--> Tweak your default I/O Scheduler & Disable I/O Stats
--> Disable & Re-Enable VSync
--> Disable Normalized Sleeper // Gentle Fair Sleepers // New Fair Sleeper (just moved, was already there before)
-->Misc. Kernel Tweaks : Disable kernel error checking (already there before) // Sysctl kernel msgmin & msgmax tweak
Added an option to revert Adblocking
Fixed the issue where beats audio and walkman options would be displayed for gb roms when it shouldn't
Various bugfixes (a few swapped selections and unworking tweaks)
Removed the extra apps screen, this wasn't really matching the mainline of this project, since you can grab those apps from the market. Plus this makes the whole package lighter.
Switched to miui installer theme
v2.0
ø New Tweaks selection screen : Multitasking
==> Choose between :
4 levels of OOM Priorities
4 levels Minfree settings
2 levels of ZRAM compression
Tweak your kernel and dalvik cache to behave well and be stable on hard multitasking conditions
ø New Tweaks selection screen : Networks & Internet
==> Security tweaks :
Reinforce your TCP/IP Stacks to make them resist to SYN attacks which cause a DoS (Denial of Service) on your device. Now those lame-ass blackhat hackers won't harm you with this.
Block redirects : auto website redirections will be blocked
Block source-routing : source-routing can be used to hack into your device as it allows full tracing of packets.
==> Stability & Speed tweaks :
Increase the buffer and queue size of each tcp socket to give more stability on high broadband consumption conditions
Allow the system to re-use the Sockets on TIME-WAIT state. In clear time-wait causes memory-loading, memory-loading causes internet lagg, internet lagg sucks.
Various IPv4 protocol speed tweaking scripts using sysctl
DNS and ppp0 tweaks for faster name-resolution, which means faster connections to websites.
ø New Tweaks selection screen : GPS Configuration
==> Choose between 79 countries (and 5 continents) of gps.conf files: those files are essential for the accuracy and lock-speed of your device's gps. (Thanks to gangsterjoop for the files)
ø New Adblock file of over 200 000 hosts ! (100x more than before) (Thanks to BSDgeek_Jake for the host file) --> added to extra features screen
ø New init.d scripts :
Move Dalvik-cache to /cache to increase data storage
Bind-mount dalvik-cache to allow a device to boot without sdcard (useful for devices with damaged internal sdcard)
Touchscreen responsiveness improvement tweaks
ø New Enable/Disable features :
Disable and Re-Enable Android logger
Disable Gentle Fair Sleepers
Disable New Fair Sleepers
Disable Normalized Sleeper
ø Rewritten every single init.d script :
This allowed me to realize many of them were not working, so I added a lot of missing values, and fixed a countless number of errors, redundant values and typos. So there should be some big improvement on the effects of init.d tweaks.
I also set an order of execution of init.scripts to avoid conflicts.
ø Removed themes and S-Voice
The S-Voice flaw that allowed other devices to use it appears to be patched and it was heavy, and themes were heavy and not really useful, you can download a countless number of them for free on the market
ø Changed installer theme to Sense
I realized that the options subtitles were not readable with ics theme, so most of the tweaks effects explainations were hidden.
ø Pimp My Rom will now come in two versions :
One will include the latest version of Aroma (with touchscreen working out-of-the-box, but issues on some devices) and One using Aroma v2.51 (With touchscreen calibration, and this version appears to fix the weird texture/ghost-input/moving screen/vibration issues people have with some devices with aroma v2.56)
ø Major code clean-up, various bugfixes
Re-organized and cleaned-up both aroma-config and updater-script
Fixed the way the installation process input displays sections and sub-sections
Fixed some tweaks getting installed instead of others when they shouldn't, and some other bugs
Pimp my Rom is an aroma-installer based script that will allow you to choose between a plethora of nice tweaks, mods, apps, themes and features to add to your current rom.
YOU CHOOSE which options and tweaks to apply, all this with a nice touchscreen interface, even if you're not running a touchscreen recovery, thanks to Aroma.
You can now run this script on any Android Device !!! (GB/HC/ICS/JB)
PmR was originally created for the Galaxy tab 7.7 (p68xx), but it has now evolved into a universally usable script !

i think this tweaks is only for ICS/JB,i already ask in original thread
It works like a charm on CM10. But as OP states in the original thread and this one last verse try coping the Meta inf and try. It seems to work on some ROMs and not on some.
Sent from my GT-I9003 using xda app-developers app
hey does it supports DDLF2???
gonna give it a shot!
Just follow the instructions in the OP and if you end up in some error then do the steps as mentioned.

Flash it on XXKPQ, feel more lag !
Try a reflash and then flash as that should not be happening.

I pimped My ROM Dhiru's CM10 and OMG........Batery drain was at its peak....!!
40% to switch off state in 4-5 Hours in night with data and wi-fi disabled.
SU/Script manager has taken allmost 18% of battery, There is some issue for sure .

First a word of Dev himself why he himself does not publiseerd:
I decided to not release Ayintis on a public forum. There are two reasons for that:
1.) I have a very busy private life (currently busy with my study) which gives me no time to give proper support all the time on forums.
2.) Besides that I am not really active on forums, becaues of old expierences which I don't want to recall.

What is Ayintis:
Ayintis (pronounced as: aii-in-tis), before known as Engengis, is an easy to use tool for Android devices.
Ayintis allows the user to tweak his Android system in a fast, simple, easy and secure way.
Although it isn't anything new it still provides a rich collection of tweaks, 100% configureable by the end user.
The goal of this project is to generate an open-source platform which is offering an easy to use interface and a wide range of tweaks.
Support
Ayintis is builded in mind that it must be capable to run on every Android device.
Even if the device is old or new, low-end or high-end it doesn't matter.
Ayintis is using busybox applets which makes it possible to run ayintis on every system.
This goal isn't achieved yet, not every device is 100% supported. Although most of the devices will. On our support page you can find information on how to get full support for your device.
Supports....
- Android 1.6 till 4.1 (Need a kernel which is atleast 2.6.xxx)
- CPU up to quad-core
- Various partition tables (BML-MMC-MTD-STL-TFSR-ZRAM)
Interface
Easy to use
With an easy to use interface you tweak your system in no time.
Just type in the number with your keyboard and Ayintis does the rest.
Possible to use ayintis on your Android device with Terminal emulator.
Or use your computer instead with ADB.
Customize it!
Not only the tweaks are configureable also the interface.
Including headercolors, show and hide various options.
Tweaks
Ayintis offers a wide range of (popular) tweaks. All tweaks can be found within the Android community (XDA-Developers, Rootzwiki ect.). All tweaks are configureable. There are tweaks you can enable and disable and there are tweaks where you can choose serveral options.
Sysctl configurator
The feature everyone is searching for within the Android community is the ultimate ramscript.
Serveral developers took up the challenge to find the ultimate ramscript, with great results!
There are lots of devices and users so there are lots of ramscripts too.
It's impossible to integrate all the ramscripts in Ayintis, so we invented a system where the user can create his own ramscript.
This feature we call the sysctl configurator. The user can create it's own ramscript or use already existing ramscripts.
The system works pretty simpel, there are 26 parameters the user can configure (more in the future).
By typing in the values you generate your own ramscript!. See the instructions page for detailed information.

Tools
Ayintis is not offering only tweaks, it also offers a set of tools the user can use.
Make logcat
You know that developer that is always asking for a logcat but you have no idea how to get one?
Problem solved! Ayintis offers a tool to make a logcat very easily. Locats supported are: main, radio and event.
Read everything about the android logcat here
Online nandroid backup
A new tool in the android community is online nandroid backup.
This feature is not integrated in Ayintis but you can easily make an online nandroid backup if you have the tool installed (/system/bin/onandroid).
We chose to not integrate this feature because this feature is really unique, we want people to choose if they want to use it or not.
So if you want to use this feature from the Ayintis menu you have to install it yourself. Online nandroid backup can be found here
Script manager
Ayintis offers a wide range of tweaks, but it doesn't have all features it can offer.
There are lots of scripts that can be found on android forums that are not integrated in Ayintis.
This is because these scripts are really device specific or very experimental or you name it!
Actually Ayintis is all about scripts, that's why script manager comes in.
It fills the gap of features that are missing, restores your scripts after an update and manages your init.d folder.
Script restore
Every tweak you enable or disable and every tweak you set with Ayintis will be saved in a tweak file.
It remembers your tweak settings after an update. This gives the possibility to restore your scripts after an update.
This feature is very handy if you are an extreme rom flasher.
Script installer
There are a lot of scripts within the android community that are not integrated in Ayintis.
There are several reasons for that. That's where script installer comes handy.
It offers you an very easy interface to run and install scripts.
It fills the gap off missing features from Ayintis.
Script remover
Script remover gives you the oppurtunity to remove scripts from the init.d folder.
Pretty useful if you don't have a root-explorer and want to get rid off pre-installed scripts.
And there must be a way to remove all those scripts you install with script installer.
Open source
All this awsomeness is open-source! Everyone can see and use the source.
You can compile your own builds, improve the code or just have a look.
Source is available at github
Instructions on how to compile and requirements to compile are within the sourcecode.
Features
Ayintis features
- Ayintis image (vfat) [Reduces effect on system and data partition]

Ayintis® v.1.0 by Redmaner
New build is out
Changelog:
Ayintis 1.1-RC1 (experimental)
- ayintis_core: Switched to tar environement
- ayintis_core: Many changes and improvements to work with the new tar environment
- ayintis_mounter: Update mounter help
- ayintis_settings: add runlevel and logscr options
Release notes:
We switched to the tar environment with this build.
That means we no longer use image formats, that also means that Ayintis is no longer mounted as a loop device.
We chose to rebuild the perspective to tar to be more open-source and use less CPU but keep the fast OTA-updates and data compression.
This also gave the opportunity to do some directory changes, which we did.
/data/ayintis/mount is now /data/ayintis/core
/data/ayintis/tmp is now /data/ayintis/core/tmp

Ayintis v.1.0® (by Redmaner)
I'll have a look, just because it is you and Redmaner, looks interesting. Why did Red choose this form over an app?
On a side-note, isn update-binary a cyanogenmod one, or even a google thingy?
Edit: from the FAQ:
Wye isn't this an application (.apk)?
There are a few reasons for that.
First shell is an easy language = more contributors.
Second, letting the user interact with shell is more educational.
Third some stuff is impossible to do in an android application.

WHAT IS NEEDED TO INSTALL Project Direct Inject:
1.) Root access (su binary required)
2.) Busybox v1.20.4+ w/ run-part support (busybox required)
3.) Need to be on 2.3.3+ gingerbread or higher
4.) Terminal Emulator app app installed
5.) Enough space in your /system partition (10 mb available minimum)
If you do not meet these requirements then DO NOT USE IT!!!
WHAT IS NEEDED FOR CPU TUNER:

2.) Your need a kernel that supports max overclock freq of 1.3ghz and a min freq of 384mhz.
3.) Need a kernel that has these 3 governors (Conservative, Ondemand, and Performance)
4.) On HTC Sense ROMs you need to disable per flock (Setcpu will do this for you)
If you don't meet ALL these requirements then do NOT attempt to use CPU tuner!!!
Installation
1.) Make sure you meet the requirements above
2.) Download the latest version of Project Direct Inject
3.) Boot into recovery (TWRP or CWM doesn't matter)
4.) Make a nandroid backup

Behold.....
THE NOS Controller!!! Since many of you find it troublesome to key in commands every time, I wrote up a damn simple app to save those finger punches!!! Well, I am currently limited by my knowledge of Java, this is the best I can do for now (Requests? Be prepared, I won't attend to any as I can't add more features yet...more learning to do...sorry... )
But, take note that you will need to install the latest version of 4cyl Turbo v0.5.7_r2 w/ 250 shot NOS first and have Terminal Emulator installed before using this app! Do not be silly and think that this app is gonna do everything for you!
The app is very simple and straightforward, so no instructions will be given here...enjoy!

You can just install the new one (through recovery or terminal depending on the release version) since the installer replaces it's own old/invalid files

Exactly what he said. 4cyl turbo has implemented a script that deletes all files init.d that you have and replaces them. For a new installation, whether it is installed by CWM or Terminal is not required before uninstallation, just install the new version.

Try v0.5.2 instead since it's flashable and see if it works.
Flash it in TWRP/CWM and I suggest you mount system first before flashing the zip. Also, as always don't forget your nandroid backup If it did work, then you can proceed to install the latest version through terminal if you want to.
Damn mounting/unmounting always confuses me...By mounting the system do u mean mount or unmount..
Coz i think in cwm it shows like this
"A Blue Tick and it shows unmount storage...and a blank box when its shows mount storage"
So just tell which 1 should i go with, tick or untick
And after flashing it, will the terminal command "4cylturbo" respond??

Slim GApps: Slim GApps for BeanStalk Release 7 (88.00 MB)
Older builds can be found in Chromium's original ROM thread.
Instructions
Recommendations/Requirements:
- An hboot with at least 250mb on system. These include stock hboot or @jmcclue's 250/5/182 hboot.
- A 512mb - 1.5gb EXT partition (EXT4 recommended) on your sdcard. Use this guide, and this guide only to create the partition. Partitions made using other tools (CWM, Minitool Partition Wizard, etc.) will likely cause issues.
- The latest TWRP or 4EXT Recovery. Old versions of CWM may cause issues.
- A somewhat decently functioning brain (optional)
Installation Steps:
- Boot into recovery
- Full wipe *
- Flash ROM
- If you want to use your phone as WiFi Hotspot, then flash this Hotspot WPA/WPA2 PSK Fix (credits @ze7zez)
- Boot the ROM and let it settle down for 2-3 minutes
- Important: Go into Developer Settings to enable Root for Apps & ADB
- Enable A2SD from Terminal **
- After the ROM has booted, reboot to recovery
- Flash GApps
- Reboot
- Start Play Store to load setup for WiFi, Google account, etc.
* Full wipe includes system, data, cache, dalvik cache, .android_secure and sd-ext
** Open up Terminal Emulator App.
Enter 'su' without quotation marks and confirm root permission.
Enter 'a2sd install'.
Answer the questions: y - n - y.
Your phone will reboot now and while booting up, it will automatically move apk files to sd-ext to free up space on internal nand.
Optimized Settings and Tips:
Settings > BeanStalk options > BeanStalk Init.d scripts > Clear cache
Settings > BeanStalk options > BeanStalk Init.d scripts > Enable speedy modified (This may cause graphical issues. If it is bothering you disable this option)
Settings > BeanStalk options > BeanStalk Init.d scripts > Enable loopy smoothness
Don't make app drawer background transparent (instead it should be opaque for best performance)/
Use Greenify to hibernate memory hungry apps that constantly run in the background.
Thanks to:
@scott.hart.bti - the founder and lead developer of the ROM
@Chromium for giving birth to BeanStalk for HTC Desire
@LaidbackNikez and Evervolv - makers of the awesome qsd8k kernel that powers this ROM, as well as htc vendor files and bravo device tree
@parkedraccoon - helped to fix build errors
@tommypacker - for testing and porting to the Nexus One (at the same time)

Hum, I wasn't aware of that yet. Yes, the sooner or later..
I'm not a user of the desire anymore, but I consider awesome the people who it's still making new roms for this phone, unbelievable.
Probably one of the first good phones in Android, at least when the smartphone world began the exponential growing.
Congrats and keep your hard work, if I have time I'll check some ROM just for having fun and remenber old times were always better hahaha

Excellent, @spezi77. +1'ing on the awesomeness remark by @ceutas. Many thanks, even though I'll probably only occasionally use this ROM.
Any advances on this issue?
Cheers

Hi spezi77.
Why is there no Hotspot WPA/WPA2 PSK Fix for every ROM which you prepare?
Whenever I write about it, I do not have a Reply. Can you relate?

Hi ze7zez,
The answer is simple. I ain't no magician and I couldn't find out how to fix it in the code. If you point me to the solution, I'd be glad to add it to the codebase.
Maybe I could add the link to that flashable zip to the rom download section. What do you think?

Hum, I don't know whether this problem still present in release 7. I think that it was fixed in CM-11. Please let me know if you can reproduce it in BS ROM.

Adding the link in the first post would be at least advisable.
You might as well add these libraries as well as adding a Terminal Emulator or Nova Launcher, right?

Theoretically yes. But I don't want to take the risk of causing unknown effects or instabilities for all users. I would not like to replace healthy portions of the ROM with files that were compiled for a JellyBean ROM ages ago. Unless there is a proper fix in the source code, I would like to keep the Hotspot WPA/WPA2 PSK Fix as separate patch for those people who really need it.
Does this sound fair to you?

Imo both of these things are unnecessary cuz both can be downloaded from PlayStore or other external sources. And baking this stuff into the ROM on a device which has so little memory is dumb.

Fine. You add the path in the first post.

hostapd and hostapd_cli present in each ROM. If you have enough space, remove ringtones. Many more you save.

Right, but I think that he meant with this stuff, to bloat the system partition with NovaLauncher.apk and Term.apk.
@Sunandroid, please calm your horses..
As Beanstalk is CM based, it brings many unnecessary apks and needs to be slimmed in order to fit into the tiny system partition (250mb) of HTC Desire.
In order to manage this, I have removed quite a few things (e.g. Trebuchet launcher, ART, exotic font types, tts engine, ringtones etc.). This is why this ROM badly needed a replacement for Trebuchet. Both apps are from my pov essential to get the ROM started. Terminal Emulator is needed to enable A2SD support. However, the installer script in this ROM copies Term.apk and NovaLauncher.apk to the userdata partition (and not to system partition).
I hope that I didn't lose you.. If you have any suggestions to further improve this ROM, please don't be shy.

Oh well. Sorry, then @ze7zez didn't want to offend you. Personally I would add something else but nova since it uses quite a lot of memory & RAM. But do as you want. Every1 can replace with whatever he want's.
You're right about the terminal emulator. I'm not that deep into my desire anymore. But I still have it and it's running nikez latest evervolv. If I get the time to do so, I'll take the device out of my shelf and flash it with this one here. Looking forward to this^^
Hi,
I've just installed this ROM; looking quite good so far. However, I wasn't able to install Chrome on it because of insufficient space. I'm realtively sure I followed the instructions properly, but I noticed my /data partition is 148MB. Should that be bigger? What happens if I run a2sd install and select Y/Y/Y?
Thanks for your help.
John
