I have been hearing lots of issues about the radiation generated by either the GSM, BT or WiFi signals!
Is it true that it is not wise to carry the PPC next to the heart in the pocket or on the side pocket? Has there ever been an official report or research done on this and found it is not too friendly :?:
I know that this forum has got people from all over the globe. Therefore some of those countries might have researched and would have announced it, but mind you.. "Official Announcement

i've read more cases where study said that it was no problem that the other way around same thing with utms (3g)
but even if it were a problem that your hart would never be the troublesome place
your head and your testicles would be that place where it could cause issues
high watt transmision cause inc in celluar activities your hart is just a pump and need high volts expousre to react to anything like that
your brain are a pile of fat tissue where the neural transmitors and cemestry cause thinging and emotions celluar changing can be an issue there
and your semen aswell semen are preduced as a copy of the earlier produced so celluar changes which are high enough to mutate could be a problem
but cellphones are nowhere near as troublesome as highvolt lines and the wifi networks
only place you can 100% safe in in a big lead safe
Rudegar do you mean that GSM is more harmless than wifi? As far as I know the transmition power of GSM can go up as much as 2Watts in areas with low signal while wifi is only miliwatts!
wifi is always gsm is only when you make a call
i speak of wifi where you dont just use wifi at places where there are hotspots but you having a wifi network maybe some transcievers to str up the signal and such
and i also do believe that wifi is stronger then bluetooth which is just a few miliwatt dident check it though

I'm no doctor but what I can tell you based on wireless emmissions is that if you use a bluetooth headset, and keep the device as far away from you as possible. The emmissions are reduced considerably.
A bluetooth headset has a range of 5 meters, whereas Wi-Fi or Cell Transmission are a hundred times that. Which makes me think that having a bluetooth headset near your ear, is a hundred times less strong than having a mobile phone, this gives me a peace of mind.
What is to keep in mind is that, especially during conversation. Not to leave the device inside your pocket plugged within your belt. This causes more problems as the testicles are more prone to damage than the brain is. Thus even when using the bluetooth headset. In effect its better to keep the device at a distance from your body.
Also note that using a mobile phone inside a car (especially new ones), is dangerous... Why? Because the car's shield acts as a mirror to the radio-waves. It reflects 10 to 20 times within the car, thus the radiation within the car is reflected and causing higher radiation within.. Solution? External antenna, I don`t have one, but when I use the mobile, I put it far away on the dashboard, close to the window to reflect the least radiation possible within the car. Please note that all PDA2Ks and PocketPC phones have a builtin slot to connect external antenna!
Well in fact you're right about the Lead Box.. But really, I believe that when I'm going to the beach, under the sun. Im not only getting a high dose of ultraviolet rays. Lieing down, my body is probably able to receive a 1200 channels from astra (some encrypted) and another 400 from Hotbird. Its also constantly receiving the Date and Time from GPS Satellites to calculate the location. On the other side when standing up, I'm probably getting 40 Terrestrial Channels and another 100 FM Channels. Apart from the Wi-Fi stations AND Cellular Antennas nearby.
the world is becoming clattered in radio communications. Its a must of our everyday life, the trick is to be aware of it and where possible to reduce it.
Small note about signal strenght :
The mobile's radio transmitting voltage is set according to the signal strenght.
In areas with low signal strenght, the voltage is incresed, thus increasing the radiation.

Hey, I am looking for a little GSM Repeater, to get a better HSDPA Signal in my house with my Touch Diamond.
Does this already exists?
I'm not to fussy about HSDPA as I have Wi-fi but just being able to get a normal phone signal would be great, I'm sure I read somewhere about one which connects to home telephone line to get a better signal somehow. Any ideas would be great

I found a lot of antennas to get a much better signal... BUT it is made for cars... so for a short distance between the antenna and the phone.
And most of them are cable attached.....
I saw some antennas for houses, but they are too expensiv and made for a whole house and not only one room...
I have attached pic... I want to know what each terminal is for.. I am sure about B and D coz i tested them... Don't know about remaining... Can someone help?

That 'A' is still controversial... It comes in T-MoUS Sensations... Not present in European and XE Sensation...
Some say it's 4G, but then i read that guys with T-Mob using XE Sensation backcover getting 4G signals without any problems.. So it's not 4G ..:-/
Anyone? A million people having Sensation don't know what those antenna are for?
Ha, well that explains what the mysterious bump is on the inside of my back cover - it's another thing that would have been painted yellow if my phone had been shipped to a different part of the world!
A person makes a pretty good aerial, so try taking the back off and touching each contact on the phone in turn with your finger to see which radio's signal comes back.
"A" is clearly for a radio which has no purpose in the UK, or perhaps for one which can share its aerial with another radio... Could it be a different frequency thing, like an optimised antenna for a different GSM band or even for CDMA if the Sensation has a version that supports it? Or it could still be for 4G; just because you read something somewhere doesn't mean it's true.
I can personally confirm that the extra antenna is not 4G. I bought a white XE cover and have noticed zero reception problems in WiFi, 2G/3G/4G, and GPS.

B = WiFi & Bluetooth
C = GPS Receive

Interesting... although I'm lacking the gps antenna but still have gps. What does 'diversity' antenna mean?

That D i agree is GSM network, but i can't say exactly if it's only one sided reception only coz i applied aluminum foil to only D and my network reception showed up and i dialed a number and got connected without any issues..
When i touched E alone, i had no reception at all..
I read that thread but it's not coinciding with facts... That PDF marks GPS wrong too...
One theory is that the photo from the filing actually shows the antennas switched (GPS for Diversity) meaning you still get GPS, but are missing the diversity antenna - IE - a Sensation 4G has diversity and GPS, a Sensation XE (and apparently some international phones) only have GPS.
I forgot about this when I posted, I have edited my above post. This has all been covered many times, you could search and read about it all.

The diversity antenna was described as being a "booster antenna" to try and improve reception and supposedly isn't used at all times. People who have put different back covers on without it seem to report no loss in signal strength, so maybe it's not used at all?

Just looked it up on Wikipedia, apparently a Diversity antenna is to mitigate interference caused by the radio signal bouncing off obstacles between the transmitter and receiver. Several aerials receiving the same signal means at least one of them should get something usable. I believe 802.11n wireless uses this principle.
Perhaps a diversity antenna isn't necessary for correct operation, but can improve reception where fitted?
Correct. MIMO (multi in, multi out) technology is the same concept/same thing. No one is just sure how often it's used, or if it's used at all currently.

not 100% sure but the antennas are in the back cover along with the nfc chip.
If you remove the back cover, you can see the connector.

Improve Nexus S WiFi antennaArrow
I have just bought my Nexus S and am experiencing a weak wifi signal. I normally get 3 bars on all other hardware in my bedroom but am only getting 1 bar which occasionally goes up and down to 2 bars. When I am 3 meters away from the Wifi access point i only get 3 bars out of 4. All my other hardware gets full bars. When i am 6 meters away from the access point I have only 2 bars showing for wifi.
The wifi signal icon seems to fluctuate alot. Does anyone else have a similar problem?

I always thought that these connectors were for a power mat to recharge the battery...wow I'll go to bed smarter tonight !!
First and foremost bars don't mean anything really. The signal strength typically is better but what matters is the SNR (signal to noise ratio). This can by typically improved by allowing your router to switch channels automatically (from the default 6) to find the most open one. Adding your own antenna is a bad idea and it likely will make the problem worse. Those antennas are precisely designed (exact configuration) for that ranges of frequencies, adding wire will ruin those characteristics.
With GB the wifi signal was completely awful...but now with ics wifi isn't that bad....I'm not having a lot of issues now...

I haven't seen any difference in wifi signal between GB and ICS: in both of them I get 1-2 bars while my ipod gets full signal. BTW it isn't a good idea to mess up with your phone's antenna.
Most probably it is not.
WiFi antennas on theese devices can even be SMD only (trying to improve is waste of time), or "copper plate sticker" type, ussualy stickered on the internal back cover.
I've been messing around with the second type on crappy chineese WiFi phone - I've added a tiny connector used in mobilephones and connected simply a piece of coax wire to make a dipole. After few changes signal finally got a bit better, but also because in original it was really poor.
If there is a sticker-type antenna, it is theoretically possible to change antenna quite easy. In practise, you will hardly get it better because you can't just put some wire in and done (well, you can, but it will be like wining a main prize in lotery if it gets better). The wire should have right size, right shape and must be on right place. And milimeters makes a difference there, so have fun
Most likely it can get better only with some kind of external antenna, but you could hardly use your phone as mobile then
Easiest way to tune-it-up could be disconnecting the original sticker and connecting a flexible internal notebook type of antenna, but even that will probably be too big to fit inside - it must not overlap another antenna. And that's not the only rule.
Even if it does not overlap anything, it can interfere with other circuitry or Tx-devices. Bluetooth works on almost the same frequencies as 2.4GHz Wifi, for example. It's a piece of science theese frequencies, actually

Wifi signal is crap, I'm pretty handy with electronics but I've read that even the chipset they've used in the NS is rubbish... Does anyone know which reasonably new handsets have good wifi range? My old N1 was pretty good but it's just too old.
if someone can confirm that it's the antenna and not just a sh*t wireless card then i'll have an attempt at replacing it with laptop antennas.
A little question, it won't be easier to improve the antenna of the WiFi router, instead of the mobilephone's one?? You can do that simply, by putting a can on that antenna (Search on google for the tutorial, it really worked for me).

There's definitely something wrong with the Nexus S 4G's wifi. I have to be next to the router to be able to use the wifi. No other device, phones, tablet, notebooks, etc has an issue. Odd that others are having the same issue.
Did they forget to connect the wifi antenna?
just upgrade your phone maybe? and your antenna is somewhere in the back.
I found that the WiFi on my NS went to **** after upgrading to JB.

Short answer: no.
Long answer: Along with the extra contact, there is the internal hardware (cell radio) that the contact connects to. Without the right cell radio hardware, it will not connect to 4G. It is possible to change the software so the phone thinks it is a 4G phone, but the hardware difference is significant enough you won't be able to modify it yourself to connect to 4G.
Fair enough, wasn't sure if it was the same internally or not.
