Verizon HTC ONE M9 vs Verizon Nexus 6? - Verizon HTC One (M8)

OK, the Nexus is officially offered by Verizon on Feb 26th. However, the HTC ONE M9 is gonna get released this year as well. Which would you recommend and why? I can't decide.
I'm assuming Verizon isn't gonna let the Nexus have an unlocked bootloader. Also, I feel that the chances of the M9 becoming unlocked at some point are pretty good
Thought?.

Easy. M9. Period.

I like both HTC and Motorola devices and both have unique features I love. Its going to be a tough decision. Does anyone know specs for the HTC M9?

From what I've seen it will be a 5 inch screen 1080p. 810 soc 20.7mp camera. 4up front camera. 3gb of ram. But all of this is from speculations.

Sounds to me like a text book example of an incremental update. I personally don't get real hot and bothered over annual incremental updates, and judging by the sales track record of the SGS line, not too many other people do either. Unless I had a good reason to upgrade I'd hold out for another year to see 64 bit devices show up.

Would you still pick up the One S with the dual core, and smaller lower res screen?
What provider will receive the One XL?
my guess is the XL will go to ATT and i dont think the One S will by pegged as the G4x. The HTC One line of phone will be a flagship so it wouldnt make sense to change the name of a flagship phone on initial release
The One S isnt that different from the Amaze 4G and is still a better choice with a bigger battery and sd card slot
The same goes for the SGSII and the SGSII Blaze
Now if the LG G4x comes to T-Mobile, then that phone is definitely worth considering even thou LG/nVidia dont have a good developer reputation

Definitely, just like this phone, it came as crap but the dev's on XDA fixed it all up.
I think I will still pick one up. I might actually stalk the forums before I do though.
Although, if I did it that way when I went to get this I might've waited for the Sensation. :O
I'm pretty happy with the G2x, but I came from an HTC and I feel like I'll end up there again.

What really impressed me with the One series phones was the video/picture capabilities. And now that HTC is helping out the dev community with offering a way to unlock the bootloaders and releasing their source code so devs can work their magic with less headache. So looks like HTC will be my next choice when my upgrade is available. I mean why wouldn't the dev be strong for their devices?! It was a great decision for HTC to support dev, this will only increase sells of their phones! They understand we nerds! Lol

No, bootloader was open on the G2x. That's why it was so easy to flash CWM, NVFlash took like 2 minutes.
But on the O4x it's going to be locked and probably for the foreseeable future. Maybe devs can crack it, or maybe they can't.
The specs are amazing no doubt. But how long will it last? I would imagine the upcoming SGSIII will out spec it. The G2x was king in specs for only such a short time, I can see the same thing happening for the upcoming O4x.
I love LG's build quality, I've enjoyed it on the G2x a lot actually. But they hate giving source, and now that they're locking the bootloader it's just going to be too much of a head ache for us phone junkies who like to mod it.

Having a dual core isn't a bad thing when it will be the fastest processor available on the market.
Yes a dual core is faster than a quad core, architecture makes a huge difference. Stop comparing number of cores and frequency and actually look up information. The Snapdragon S4 is faster than the Tegra 3 Quad Core.

According to the rumors the XL is the one that ATT will be getting because it will only have the dual core prossessor. From all the tests and articles the only upside that one will have over the TMo One S is the bigger screen size..
The HTC One S will still be called the One S with Tmo that's for sure but does have some similar but better specs than the Amaze.. first of all the thickness is way thinner and even though the processor is still a 1.5 dual core its suppose to be way more efficient.. the camera is suppose to be improved from the Amazes camera also even though that camera was awesome..overall I'm sure its more improved than what words can say but I don't think people would go too wrong with getting the Amaze since it should be going for a bargain once the One S comes out..
The Galaxy S II compared to the Galaxy S Blaze though will be a bit different..first of all it was strange that they created the Blaze as part of the Galaxy S line and not the II series but there is a major difference in screen size from 3.97 of the Blaze and the SGSII is a ton bigger at 4.5 inches.. both are suppose to have the 1.5 dual core possessor but the Blaze will be more of a lower end phone.. Ive seen too many issues with all of the Galaxy S phones so personally i wouldn't ever buy a Samsung over a HTC by any means.. Samsung makes great TVs but kind of crappy cell phones.. and that's coming from someone that has been working in the industry for the better part of 12 years now.. Ive seen quite a bit..
HTC will let you unlock it through their tool I'm sure, they just don't want us having S-OFF.

Qualcomm and nvidia have been always on the closed source side. And in closed source sense it means you have to buy a MOQ from them and sign NDA blah blah to get your hands on the datasheet. That's what AdamOutler was talking about (that dude wants to know which pin on the SoC does what ), not about HTC won't unlock the phone or release source code for the part that is open source (kernel). GPU driver is another issue as for nvidia and qualcomm it's propriety but qualcomm released their binary usermode driver for ICS. So all is fine, really.

Yea, I'm not sure why he seemed to single out HTC, as many phones and tablets have been, are, and will be built around Qualcomm and Nvidia chips. Taking his comment literally, one would think HTC developed it's own technology which it planned to keep secret. Taking into account the fact that other manufacturers will surly use the same, or similar, processors from these companies, why is he pointing the finger only at HTC?
And not to sound like an ass, but in his car analogy, you bore a cylinder, not a piston...

Personally I am switching from the SGN to the H1X.
For me the GNex build quality is really low and I find SAMOLEDS to be inferior to IPS / LCD panels.
Also, the camera on the GNex is painfully bad, like exceptionally bad.
Plus, LTE support if they roll it out near you soon.

Here's the facts:
GN = First gen h/w, new OS
HOX = Next gen h/w, new OS
OS' change; h/w is forever.
Other than consistently getting OS updates first from Google I'm hard pressed to see one advantage that the GN holds over the HOX (or upcoming SGS3). And assuming the dev support is good it'll be days after a new OS version is released before you'll be able to flash it in some form.
id say get the one x..
from my point of view, htc is ahead in software updates for ice cream sandwhich??? not sure but its my guess..
Soo, when the next os comes next, most likely htc will pump out the next update a month or more sooner than samsung?

Depends on where you live. Luckily I own a nexus and will be owning this device
pretty soon. When it comes to design and specs, the one x has the edge. Software
is the nexus strong point. Stock ICS is terrific and will always get the updates first.
(if your build is yakju).
But you already know people in this forum will tell you to pick up the one x =P.

If price is important, then that's a good deal. Other than h/w that's kind of stale compared to S4, Teg3, and the 4214, you can count on the s/w of a Nexus device being kept current forever (by Google and the dev community). If you plan on keeping the phone for two years I'd pay the extra to get the One X. A year or less get the GN.

Nevermind I passed by a verizon store to play with the sgn and didnt feel any faster than my htc inspire(desire hd). I still have to go to the at&t store and play with the htc one x. Not sure how I'll do with an sd card. Also, hopefully all the bugs the international version has we wont get.
Just speaking from recent experience, One X without question. I find the GNex screen to be yellow tinted and not that impressive. Points go to the build quality of the One X too. The only advantage of course to the GNex is the updates (and storage if you get a 32 GB model).
I don't think anyone in here will argue that the SGN is a great device, I even ordered one for my brother-in-law today bc $399 is a great deal! However, I myself preordered the One X bc it has superior hardware and design.

Actually have a friend who did the same, preordered the HOX for himself and the $399 GNex for his wife.
I have a GNex now and its by far the best phone I have owned to date, but for me I really favor the IPS Super LCD panels, and I am a sucker for HTC's industrial design.
It doesn't hurt that its nice and white too.

Most likely different processors.
Supposed to be tegra 3 based.
Oh, hey look, another HTC i-device. What are they gonna lock down on this one, date and time changes? Widget locations on the home screen? Contact pictures?
I love my HOX, but HTC's pussification by bowing to AT&T to lock down the device is absurd, and goes against everything their CEO promised the modding/dev community. This very well may be the last time I buy from HTC.
OP how does this suck for us exactly? This is how it goes. Either way, it looks like replacement for intl hox, not ours.

Still were divided into Tegra and Snapdragon camps anyway. Personally I prefer the battery life on the dual core platform especially considering how close in performance it can be. At this point I'm ready for any good news for HTC as they've been taking a beating in market share from Samsung lately.
It only sucks for people who NEED to be on the bleeding edge of technology. That was me a few years back until i realized i didn't have the resources to fund my expensive habit. So i tend to stay happy with the device i have now
But it does seem like HTC isn't staying so true to their word that they were gonna slow down the amount of devices. But this year is better than last year that's for sure.
I would totally buy that, except this is my last HTC device.

I'm in the same boat. I would love to unleash my inner tech whore and plunk down money like there's no tomorrow on phones but honestly there's not a damn thing wrong with my one X. It's got great build quality, a great camera, awesome battery life and AOKP. Pretty much all I can ask for in a phone. I figure it will last me at least a year and a half which is more than I can say for pretty much every other phone I've ever owned. Only phone to last me over a year was my old nokia e71 (which I keep as a backup) and that was before I was exposed to the wonderful world of Android on my nexus one.
Same thing happens every time a new device comes out.
I don't get it. You think they should hold off bringing out a new phone until you've had enough of yours?
Is called progression...
I think ( tho could be wrong ) the op meant it sucks in terms of support.
I do understand....I bought 2 Evo 3d's paid over a grand for them 6 months later the phone is dropped for the 4G and I did well to sell one for 175 bucks, where as had I bought iphones I would have not lost so much.
So here we have the hox currently one hot phone, you bring out the "rumored" phone and now the hox turns in to ugly friend that nobody wants to date. So value drops, development drops, and support drops.
So yeah I see how it sucks.
Funny how you bring up the iPhone thing. I always think the same.. I switched to ATT the day the HOX came out. And now while I love the phone I don't want to be stuck with a phone that won't have development. With what little devs we have we are doing great, but what incentive do they have to stay when better phones are popping up? And now were stuck with this phone hardly anybody wants to buy after f____ing ATT dropped the price to a measly 100 dollars. That was a damn quick price drop.

The linked article does not mention LTE. And I think Tegra chipsets with LTE are not coming until late this year, or even 2013? Without LTE, AT&T is not going to pick up this phone.
Looks to be an upgrade for international carriers, or a flagship for T-Mobile. Either way, that wouldn't affect our development much, if at all.

[Q] Upgrade this month? What to do

I have an upgrade this month on AT&T. Its actually on my granpas phone number because we added him to ours and I could use that upgrade.
What should I do? I almost thought about getting the s3 just to try out and see what its like, but I just hate the look of it and haven't had good service with samsung before.
Also thought about getting iphone 5. I know a good bit about iPhones like jailbreaking and all that good stuff. But I am really an android guy. I could get it for my girlfriend which currently has iphone 4 and sell her iphone 4 possibly.
I would be the one jailbreaking it and all the fun stuff with it lol.
Or should I just wait? Is anything good coming out soon?

HTC One X+ is coming out (One X with a quad core, 2100mAh battery, 64GB storage). That would be a good choice.
Galaxy Note 2 is supposedly coming to AT&T if you like big displays. (Quad core, 2GB of Ram, sd slot)
And then there is a lot of Nexus rumors flying about.
Personally, I would wait and get one of those.
Have you seen the iPhone 5 in person? Its pretty underwhelming. Disappointing, really. It looks almost exactly like the iPhone 4. Just the screen is 1/2 inch longer in portrait orientation, which makes it 16:9 in landscape (for watching HD television programs). It also gives it a goofy long "candy bar" shape compared to most every other smartphone out there. Slightly faster CPU, a bit thinner, and aluminum back (instead of glass). But otherwise its the same old same old. It really brings nothing new to the series. Also, the screen is still so small, it seems like a joke now that I'm accustomed to the One X.
GS3 is not a bad phone, and great dev activity. I might consider it. But we're already a few month along into that phone's cycle. So I wouldn't be surprised if an incremental update is not released on AT&T. Or the Note 2 may be an option for you.
I might consider the One X+, given its an incremental improvement on an already stellar phone. And its coming out on AT&T with 64 GB of storage. But given the bootloader unlock ituation on 2.20, I might wait and see how locked down any future HTC device on AT&T is before a purchase. Or wait for a dev community root/unlock solution before buying.
I haven't seen Iphone 5 in person. I have heard rumors bout the one x. Didn't know it would be worth the upgrade. It would have a lot of the same roms as this wouldn't it? Any info on a date on it?

The One X+ would be worth the upgrade (not the One X which has been out for 4 months now). It should be shipping this month.
And no it will have different ROMs and you will not be able to use the ROMs for the current AT&T version. Different chipset. You will brick your phone.

Looked up some pics of the phone and not a big fan of that red ring on the back camera. Everything else can be covered with a case. But that is just tacky to me lol.
Windows phones are useless. Apple devices make no sense whatsoever. Android is so much easier.
Ever since growing up with Macintosh computers in 80s and 90s and the desire to napalm the original iMac my mother purchased. I find Apple appalling in every way fathomable.
I would atleast wait to see how the Jellybean rom is for the hoxl.

I would wait. There are a lot of phones rumored to come. Like the Samsung s3 but with a smaller screen, HTC one x+, lumia 920(with amazing camera), a new nexus, and the note 2, as well as LG G phone with the new built in LCD screen. A lot of choices.

anyone else notice a missing phone...

heard lots of stuff leak about a 5.5" device running a snapdragon 810, no such animal showed itself...
let the wild speculation begin!
Wasn't that the specs of the oneplus two?
Probably just the rumour mill doing its thing. With the moto x, it made sense why there were conflicting reports about battery and screen size - because they were going to be two different handsets.
A new Nexus?
Yeah. A few months ago moto was like the smartest phone ever is coming soon. Then silence. Now this which is a nexus 6.
New Droid
Snapdragon 810 is exclusive to leftover companies.
Moto X force in guessing. Upleaks just gave us a leak citing those specs, but it was 5.4x" on the QHD screen.

Man.. this phone will be the real Flagship for Moto.. wish they made the Style with these specs
I wonder how much it's going to cost.... I really think the smaller size is better and it is pretty much perfect.

I don't think it will look quite as nice though. It'll be a sweet phone nonetheless.

Rumors are $628 US. Which would automatically top the charts and presumably make it the Moto flagship.
