[Q] Help updating LG G3 (At&T) ? - AT&T LG G3

Hey all,
A while back I rooted my LG G3 (great phone btw) and and I have, what I thought I have anyways, unrooted it through SuperSU due to my phone not being able to OTA update with an accompanying error message of not being able be updated while rooted.
I have just read about Lollipop finally being rolled out to U.S Android phones (finally)
Can anybody tell me how to update that doesn't require losing all of the stuff on my phone, or if I can make changes to the system files to make it recognizable that it isnt rooted, I read threads that this is a cause.
---I have tried using Lg Update Mobile tool or whatever its called, and tried LG PC Suite to look for an update, but it says its already up to date)
Please help?

The only safe way to unroot and update is the following. You might have to do factory reset in order to get the update.

Back up your data to your computer or ext sd card. The apps you can reinstall later. I know there was an app but I can't remember now. Titanium back up it's only good with root and lollipop does not have root yet.

I use MyBackup Pro.
There's a free version also on the Play Store and it doesn't require root. It won't work as good as it could if the phone was rooted but it's a win in this situation. I sometimes even use it instead of Titanium on my KitKat roms.

How to get the new baseband?

Hello there, I'm perm rooted with cwm.
I want to get the new baseband only(excluding the new leak/fake ota whatever you want to call it. Getting a new baseband does that mean my device will restore back to unroot?).
How do I do that? Can someone help me out, please?
there is absolutely no way to get the new baseband without getting the recent gb update. you could always update, then flash whatever rom you want,or go back to stock froyo. and you will retain the newer baseband.
By doing so, I supposed I need to use the LGupdate tool? I read somewhere I can't use oneclick root once upgrade to the new leak with the new baseband. Is that true?

correct. but there is a rooted version, unmodified, of the recent update. it does not contain the baseband however.
I want the baseband and I would also want the ability to install CMW to install other roms. I'm a little confused here. Once I upgraded to the new leak, that will undo my perm root and I won't be able to install other roms right(since there is no way to root the device right now? Therefoer I won't be able to install CMW)

once you install the new update, you use one click flasher app or nvflash(both in dev section) to flash cwm. then you can install any rom you want. and regain root.
Ah, thanks for the clarification. Apprecaited.
Is this just a LG thing? I know with HTC phones, you can flash different basebands.

the baseband is included in the rom. or, it's installed separately while using the lgupdate tool. until someone figures out how to get the baseband separately, you're stuck with the baseband you have.
I have a question to go along with this, do I need to install stock bootloader, unroot and go back to stock before I use the lg updater?
Yes you do. But I don't know if you want to give this a try....half dozens of phones are bricked now...My replacement is on the way...

This is a little confusing now. If upgrading the new ROM/Baseband with LG Updater (and it does not brick the phone like mine), if root is lost and one-click root cannot unroot it (???), then he will not be able to do anything line flashing CMW and ROM.s.
I thought that those that did the LG Update could re-root their device though.

The LG updater provides GB 2.3.3 with the July 15th Baseband. It also removes CWM and Root from any phone. There is no way to root, i.e. Gingerbreak or Super One Click to regain root (VIA THOSE METHODS!!!!).
However, once updated you can Flash CWM via the NVFlash method. Once you have successfully installed CWM you will have the ability to flash Rom and backup and restore Nandroid. Therefore, you can install a Rom with Root and regain root.

I was not aware that NVflasher would work on unrooted device - cool.
It is moot for me however, as my phone was irrecoverably bricked (fatal error - cannot complete upgrade...), and no way I will let the LG Updated near the replacement device.

YES, YES, a million times YES. Some people claim to have done it with clockwork recovery installed, but the VAST majority of people who "bricked" their phones used the LG tool with a non-stock recovery.
Basically:
1) Make a nandroid backup.
2) Revert to 100% stock (recovery and ROM)
3) Use LG tool to update to 2.3.3 and also get new baseband
4) Use on-click flasher to get cwm recovery back on phone
5) Restore nandroid backup.
Does anybody know if the LGUpdater is carrier-specific?

Yes, in the updater there is a dropdown box to select country and language. Since the Wind Mobile unit is a P999DW you could probably tell it USA and get the TMO update, but then you have some TMO bloat. I would wait for the Wind Mobile update, which I suspect should be coming soon. If the updater starts up with lots of "????????" then it is set for Korea and Korean. Use the first selection in the third drop down lost to get into the Country and Language selection screen. After you select your language, the ??????? will go away. If that doesn't work then you would need to use the KDZ update launcher on a Windows XP machine (unbrick method but works on non-bricked units also).

Thanks for the reply. I've already flashed CM7 over the Froyo that comes with it, and I am seriously thinking about downgrading it to Froyo again using maybe EaglesBlood, since I believe it solves the A2DP issues.
Good thing I did a nandroid backup of my stock Froyo, since if WIND ever releases this update, I'm going to do it through this LG updater, am I correct?

Yes, since Wind is an official supplier, most likely there will be an OTA update and/or the LG updater should be able to update their ROM when the update becomes available; but your phone must be completely stock for an OTA update or to use the LG Updater. Part of the udpate process calculates an MD5 on every file in the original ROM. If any of them have been changed or deleted the update will be refused to you.

Lmao wow. That's the most pitiful update ever. Seriously, couldn't they have waited until there was something more substantial and then included Canadian roaming in THAT update. As always though, Verizon is dumber than a bag of hammers...

Hey guys, I have a question about this update,
My friend has the S3 for whom I safe- rooted, debloated and whatnot. Now that this update came, my friend tried to update but to no avail. She is adamant about the fact that Verizon definitely has something important hidden in the update, despite me trying to tell her otherwise, and figured that she couldn't install the update because she was rooted.
Naturally, I fully unroot her entire phone, uninstall root-only apps, and try the update, but it doesn't work. When the phone reboots for installation, the installation bar loads for a bit, hangs, then just says "error" and does not update.
Anyone know what the problem could be? Normally I wouldn't care so much, but if Android 4.4 is actually coming to the S3 then I don't want her not to have it, and I can already tell it's not going to work if this update doesn't either.
Thank you so much in advance.

Some of the bloatware you removed likely had to be present on the phone in order for the update to take place. Unless you are sure someone is never going to go back to stock without flashing an ODIN tar image and wiping their phone clean, best to just freeze bloatware with Titanium Backup. That way you can just unfreeze it in order to go back to full stock. Unless you have a list of the bloatware you removed and can somehow sideload them back in, you will unfortunately have to flash her phone to full stock VRUCML1 and wipe it clean.

Ah, I see, next time I'm around her I'll re-root it and backup all her stuff with titanium backup, flash the VRUCML1 and factory reset, then restore everything and see if it works.
Strangely enough, when the same update for my Verizon Note 2 came out, I was able to update while rooted even though I unsinatalled theexact same system apps I did on her phone. How strange.
Nonetheless, thank you so much.
I have a question for you all. I took the OTA update for 4.3 when it came out but after that I rooted my gs3 Verizon phone again successfully. Now I also took this last update and now lost root on my phone. I tried to reroot the phone but it fails now. There error I get on safestrap is something about the addresses not being able to be found. Can anyone help me reroot my phone so my apps like titanium will work again?
Thanks

In my experience, updating via LG Support Tool wipes everything. I am backing up all my data right now. Hopefully towelroot still works on this version.
EDIT: So I just finished the update via LG Support Tool. My data was left intact, but stuff was broke anyways - probably from using system cleaner app and then not having root after the update. So I am doing a factory reset anyway and will start all over. I expected it to be wiped anyway.

I ended up using the LG Mobile Support Tool to install the update. I wasn't able to install the OTA; it booted into TWRP, then when I rebooted the system, it said I was up to date, even though I was still on 10a. I lost root, but was able to re-root with towelroot. Everything was still there when I booted, although I don't have TWRP recovery. Not sure if I want to do that since I read somewhere that I will lose Knock Code. Make sure you back up your data just in case things don't go smoothly.

If I use KDZ to flash the update, will I loose TWRP? Or do you think a flashable zip file will be made in the future?
I just updated my NON ROOTED d801 g2 and now my touch screen does not work at all. No errors during installation.
I ran into this problem before when I tried to update the touchscreen firmware through the menus via
3845#801#
My screen would go unresponsive, but after 10 mins and a couple of reboots, it would work back (my guess is that it reverted to the old touch firmware).
This time though, the touchscreen seems to be permanently disabled. Anyone else running into this issue?

[Q] Root D85010f

Hey guys,
So I just got the G3 last week, and an update rolled out from AT&T. Me being the idiot I am thought it was the Lollipop update so I updated it. Turns out, it was just 10f.
Then when I looked for ways to root the G3, all the methods required the software to be on 10d, not f.
What should I do?
Any help is much appreciated.
Use the bruteforce method in Stump root.

This is what I would do. It is possible you got a bad OTA as well. Did you factory reset after the OTA? I have seen many cases on forums where a factory reset takes care of many issues after an OTA.

I don't know man, do you have the correct app installed? Mine went through smoothly in less than 5 minutes.
I just did this - now i am trying to bump the device. So my memory is relatively fresh
Reboot for fresh start - Run Stump - it will say device not supported - try brute force - let it run - takes 5 - 7 and maybe 10 min after which it says "reboot" device - then go ahead and reboot device. Run stump again - it should say device is rooted. Next download "root checker" it will say rooted. Ofcourse if this all does not go thru - you can downgrade to a previous firmware and it'll go easier - however that's more labor intensive and you'll not be able to back up the current ROM with all your apps and setup.
Well, I ended up having to flash back to 10d as mentioned by many of you. This fixed the problem!

I can report no issues here with Stumproot on 10f and I've restored back to stock multiple times.

perhaps this

works nicely, no muss, no fuss
If i revert to 10D do i have to use the BUMP method after root? Or just get TWRP/CWM Recovery like good ole days? I just don't care to have the BUMP bypass that is why I am asking.
I have the ATT G3 10F.

Marshmallow!

With the update coming sometime in the near future, what does that mean for us with rooted phones? More specifically, us losers who are on the Puerto Rican rom.
I imagine if we update we lose root, but is there any way we can get back on the American AT&T H810 after the update comes out?
I just got the phone from Craig's list. When I got home and I did more research I realized I got screwed. They sold me the PR version of the phone. At least I got it for 280 unlocked and no scratches almost new.

Yikes sorry! Do you have the green spot issue in the camera? It's a decent rom save for that issue. Allows you to get rid of everything (bloatware). I've been dying to add xposed, but without being able to back anything up makes it a little iffy. AT&T seems to be the worst when it comes to allowing their devices to be unlocked.

I imagine if we update we lose root, but is there any way we can get back on the American AT&T H810 after the update comes out?

If LG releases a KDZ for ATT you can. However, even those of us who are on att firmware can't take OTA updates after rooting (even if flashing an unrooted system img). LGs root checker tool flags the system on the /persist partition
This means that you will have to UN-Root your phone. Download & install the update. Put your phone into download mode. DD if=OS of=Backup.img
Then root that backup (Or get it from someone who posted it on an XDA Root site)
Once it is rooted, then DD if=RootedOS of=OS (Disk dump it back to the phone)
Now you have a rooted Marshmellow OS on your phone.

Please also know, once you root, you will NOT be able to take any future OTA Updates. Even if you flash back your unrooted System.img.
LG's Root Checker Tool prevents this. You can read more about it http://forum.xda-developers.com/att-...lysis-t3229175
UNLESS They Release a KDZ.

I did the H81010g root a while back. Is there a way for me to get on the O update, preferably rooted?

this is false. i was rooted on 10g, i unrooted and flashed stock system.img and took the update to 10o just fine.
you need to do a few things to prepare first
1) unfreeze any apps you may have frozen with debloater/titanium/greenify/etc
2) disable and uninstall any xposed modules
3) uninstall xposed (if you have it)
4) uninstall flashfire (if you have it)
5) uninstall any root apps (aside from supersu)
6) open supersu, uncheck "enable superuser" and then select full unroot, than reboot
7) download and flash the stock system.img for whatever firmware you are currently rooted on
8) now your unrooted and you may update via ota
this thread will help for flashing, just make sure you use the stock version of your current firmware: http://forum.xda-developers.com/g4/general/lg-g4-100-root-success-directives-root-t3180586
you can find lots of system.img files and more tips here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/g4/general/att-h810-update-8-31-v10i-t3190714
this post is also useful for unrooting: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=62640811&postcount=27

easily done, check my post above. after you take the ota to 10o you will just need to root that basically the same way you did with 10g

I completed those steps, however right at 4% still getting error 0x1123004.
I re-rooted just to make sure everything was unfrozen etc, uninstalled everything, then flashed unrooted image back, still giving the error.
Guess i'll have to wait for another method.
