With the update coming sometime in the near future, what does that mean for us with rooted phones? More specifically, us losers who are on the Puerto Rican rom.
I imagine if we update we lose root, but is there any way we can get back on the American AT&T H810 after the update comes out?
I just got the phone from Craig's list. When I got home and I did more research I realized I got screwed. They sold me the PR version of the phone. At least I got it for 280 unlocked and no scratches almost new.

Yikes sorry! Do you have the green spot issue in the camera? It's a decent rom save for that issue. Allows you to get rid of everything (bloatware). I've been dying to add xposed, but without being able to back anything up makes it a little iffy. AT&T seems to be the worst when it comes to allowing their devices to be unlocked.

If LG releases a KDZ for ATT you can. However, even those of us who are on att firmware can't take OTA updates after rooting (even if flashing an unrooted system img). LGs root checker tool flags the system on the /persist partition
This means that you will have to UN-Root your phone. Download & install the update. Put your phone into download mode. DD if=OS of=Backup.img
Then root that backup (Or get it from someone who posted it on an XDA Root site)
Once it is rooted, then DD if=RootedOS of=OS (Disk dump it back to the phone)
Now you have a rooted Marshmellow OS on your phone.

this is false. i was rooted on 10g, i unrooted and flashed stock system.img and took the update to 10o just fine.
you need to do a few things to prepare first
1) unfreeze any apps you may have frozen with debloater/titanium/greenify/etc
2) disable and uninstall any xposed modules
3) uninstall xposed (if you have it)
4) uninstall flashfire (if you have it)
5) uninstall any root apps (aside from supersu)
6) open supersu, uncheck "enable superuser" and then select full unroot, than reboot
7) download and flash the stock system.img for whatever firmware you are currently rooted on
8) now your unrooted and you may update via ota
this thread will help for flashing, just make sure you use the stock version of your current firmware: http://forum.xda-developers.com/g4/general/lg-g4-100-root-success-directives-root-t3180586
you can find lots of system.img files and more tips here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/g4/general/att-h810-update-8-31-v10i-t3190714

I completed those steps, however right at 4% still getting error 0x1123004.
I re-rooted just to make sure everything was unfrozen etc, uninstalled everything, then flashed unrooted image back, still giving the error.
Guess i'll have to wait for another method.

TWRP & Flashify work with this?
Sorry for my noobie question, but I rooted back in April with WeakSauce & TWRP and also installed Flashify. I am fuzzy on what I did and now, I am afraid of bricking my phone through ignorance.
Can I use these files to upgrade to 4.4.3 on my Verizon HTC One M8? If so, what is the most straightforward way to do this? Can I use Flashify or TWRP to load the OP6ZBIMG.ZIP file?
Thanks
I was able to get back to stock by following this guide I found here: http://www.bane-tech.com/how-to-return-htc-one-m8-verizon-to-stock-s-on-relock-bootloader-unrootuninstall-supersu/
Everything worked great until the final step of removing SuperSU. I was unable to remove SuperSU using all methods I could find. It remains as a system app, but I am no longer rooted.
My intentions were to return it to stock for the warranty screen replacement by HTC, so I took the risk and hid SuperSU in the app drawer and sent it in for the warranty work. It came back fixed and factory reset, but SuperSU was still there. I still wanted to return my phone to a complete stock experience in case I need to return it to Verizon, so I took a risk of taking the OTA released in September, thinking it would wipe SuperSU out of the system apps. Somehow, the OTA left SuperSU in tact. I also noticed that the stock camera app was limited to only camera or selfie mode. Video, Zoe and the others weren't able to be accessed. Has anyone else experienced these issues, or have any recommendations for fixing them? I am considering taking the HTC Eye OTA due soon from Verizon, hoping that will fix my problems, but I'm not too confident since the last OTA didn't work as expected.

That's because that is a crap guide. You turned s on before removing su which turned on /system write protection and basically write protected your su app.
You must remove su after locking bootloader and making sure all is well with lock and tamper status. You should only turn s on AFTER this is all verified.

I have uninstalled TWRP, Busy Box & SU. When I run the Check Root program it says I have ROOT.
I have twice accepted to OTA, it reboots, goes about 1/3rd through and goes to the red triangle thing which I then go into the recovery console.
On the bottom it says:
Finding update package...
Opening update package...
Verifying update package...
Installing update...
Verifying current system...
"/system/customize/ACC/default.xml" has unexpected contents.
Write host_mode:0 done
At this point I reboot and I am back to where I was. Any pointers?

I'm on complete stock (not even rooted) and I've been having this problem for a while. I found out that sometimes when it happens, I can fix it by restarting my phone, but it goes back to being broken soon after. I noticed that it started to happen after I installed the Google now launcher, leading me to believe that it's a ram problem (and hence restarting will help) so I uninstalled a bunch of useless apps and now I use about 1g ram at idle, and the problem still persists.
This morning, I updated with the new OTA (4.4.4 and HTC Eye) and the problem is still here. If anyone could help, it would be greatly appreciated.

You are s on too right? If so I don't have an option for you yet. Your system files are write protected which means the most you can do is clear data for the app or factory reset. Are you using an SD card and if so does it make a difference which storage location you use?
Did anyone else get a pop-up for a new OTA update today? I'm running NI2 and the new one looks to be NK2. Google doesn't return much in the way of results for something coming today/recently. There's not much on Verizon's site either: http://www.verizonwireless.com/dam/support/pdf/system_update/benefits-galaxy-s5-12-16-14.pdf All it lists is a VPN fix, SD card fix, and replacing ISIS with Softcard. It does not appear to be Lollipop
Hopefully flashing the kernel to NCG rooting and then returning to the current kernel still will work. I can download the files if someone can explain how to extract the kernel.
I too just received this update. Going to wait don't want to lose root
I got the update and applied it. Lost root (knew I would), but everything else seems fine.
I don't know how to extract the kernel though. Hopefully others take notice and help you or just provide the process and files for the masses.

Appears to be a small update as the download and install did not take as long as other major updates.

Still amazes me after all these years how quick people are to install updates. I don't touch them with a ten foot pole till i find out 100% what's in them lol.

use terminal emulator or adb (just need root) - for system and kernel dump
Code:
su
dd if=dev/block/mmcblk0p15 of=/mnt/sdcard/boot.img
dd if=dev/block/mmcblk0p23 of=/mnt/sdcard/system.img
Seems to be a small and non-critical update. I'll probably skip on this and wait for lollipop.

I've had a few skips here and there, but occurances vary greatly depending on the app, BT device, and distance. 90%, though, is problem free.
I just updated lost root of course, used the towleroot/odin flash method and put the NI2 kernal back on, phone says I am still up to date with NK2, and finds no new updates. Not sure if this is actually the case, I am still new to all of this. But I do have root access back now so..
you would have to odin back to ncg kernal, root then odin nk2 kernel back once and if its available
---------- Post added at 08:40 PM ---------- Previous post was at 08:37 PM ----------
if u odin ni2 and still shows nk2 then it probably didnt work.. either way, you need to wait until someone puts out the kernal for nk2 or else u might as well stay on nk2 or just go back to ncg root install ss then flash rom of choice and then kernal of choice lol. im content where im at especially when theres no big changes at all
been waiting for this just for the SD card fix ever since the verizon tech's told me it was coming, hopefully they really did fix it.
Now the anxious waiting for it to get posted since I can't do OTA from Canada.
I will wait for it to be rootable, as I'm not willing to lose that.
That said, I've been waiting to be able to use OpenVPN over 4G/3G since I got the phone, so if this fixes the issue, it's definitely worth the update for me. I still can't believe it's taken them this long to fix the freaking issue...

It won't be rootable, as the past 2 updates haven't been rootable. As long as you can downgrade to NCG, that's your root method right there. You won't be able to root the new updates as they stand.

In that link, the factory reset that they are talking about is by holding the volume down while rebooting. That wouldn't work, but a Disk Dump of the original files (StockOS) back onto the phone will in fact work.
Does this method work? Anyone else test it?

have never had problems updating OTA as long as i reflash the unrooted system.img first. keep in mind, i also do not install xposed as that seems to be the thing that keeps OTA from being installed later on

For the h81010o version, you said to use the low effort root method... Do I do the exact method and use the same exact AT&T commands that they have for the h81010g? Because I want to know if that command is compatible with the h81010o version. Thank you.
Hey everyone,
So I found online that the AT&T update to Marshmellow started on 2-8-16. I haven't been able to find anything officially from AT&T but apperently the version is H81020n and its 971 MB. Has anyone gotten the update yet?
Just saw this thread and figured I'd check. Went into the update center and notification popped up for new 950mb update. Must be it cause I was already on 10o. Didn't even have to use LG Bridge like the other carrier guys were doing.
Will post back with an update once completed

I just wonder if I can update via LG Bridge without an AT&T sim since I bought a second hand one and don't have AT&T sim now.

I would have done this but didn't even think about it when I saw the update come through. Was happy to finally be getting 6.0
Hopefully somebody else can help you with that.
I fell asleep during the update process but just finished running the Debloater tool and getting rid of all the att/lg junk! So far so good. Will be keeping an eye on battery life over the next couple days.

Debloater does not need root as long as you are running KitKat or newer :good:. Without root it just freezes/disables the apps instead of completely removing them.
edit : these are the apps i block using debloater without losing any functionality i need : http://pastebin.com/d64Vydmy

tried, it doesn't show up in my logcat. sorry
So, and I apologize if this is a stupid question, will Chainfire's advances in the systemless SuperSU help us when it comes to rooting Marshmallow on our H810?
can we update AT&T phone OTA outside the US without at&t sim card???

not possible. you can't modify the system files and boot without a modified kernel. We don't have an unlocked bootloader, so no kernels, thus no root.
if you root MM your phone will just loop without the custom kernel.
---------- Post added at 03:58 PM ---------- Previous post was at 03:40 PM ----------
so the file it downloaded isn't a zip... it's just 'dlpkgfile'
7zip can open it but there's a similar file inside and that one can't be opened.... dunno.

That's the missing piece I needed to understand. Thanks! Sucks, but thanks! :highfive:
got it! looks good to me - so far...
I upgraded early yesterday morning and my phone has been hot almost all the time!! The battery life is way worse than prior to the upgrade. I have cleaned out all my junk files and cache rebooted and recharged a few times. Also optimized my apps a few times. I just picked up my phone after 2 hours of no use and it was warm and the battery is draining at a faster rate than with Lollipop... Anybody else experiencing this?
Awesome, glad the update is out....I haven't done the update just yet...waiting to see if we hear anything about root. I'm wondering if we are still able to downgrade via TOT method if need be...if that's the case then i'll update ASAP. I actually have heard that there are some battery issues with the update, but again I'm not on 6.0 yet so I can't tell you from my experience.
2 questions
So their is no root ?
Also can I just unistall SuperSU and update or do I need to wait tell I'm home and flash a clean image

No root.
I've never managed to update w/o flashing the unrooted version of whatever rooted version I'm running. If there's an easier way, I'm not aware of it.

EDIT: Looks like its not MM but some security update, so that sucks but I'd still like to know if anyone successfully got back to stock from rooted 5.1.1
Hi everyone.
I'm trying to find a way to restore my H950 to stock and completely remove any trace of root so that I can install an OTA update. I have tried installing the update with LG PC Suite and LGMobile Support Tool. Both of them say that I am on the latest software (5.1.1 H950v11?). It has been so long since I rooted it that I can't remember what method I used. If anyone has any idea how to flash it back to stock, I'd appreciate the help!
More Details:
I have an H950 (US AT&T) rooted on 5.1.1 and I just started getting an update yesterday saying that I have a system update available. When I tried to download and update, the phone I got an error while the update was still at 0%. When the phone restarted I got the "This phone is suspected in rooting..." Error.
I have tried following this thread [Guide] LG G Flex 2 Stock Firmware (Go Back to Stock) KDZ & TOT Method
but it didn't work. I got the flash utility to run but I still had SuperSU after it flashed my phone and the update still failed due to "Suspect in rooting."
I also tried following this thread [Tool] Easy Restore/Unroot Tool for LG G Flex 2 [09/15/15]!!
but I could not get it to work. The utility just hangs at "Working..."
Anyone successfully used either of these methods on an H950 with 5.1.1 to get back to stock?
Thanks in advance!
2nd method

You chose cse flash and wiped correct? If you didn't that's why my guide removes everything 100% if you follow it correctly.

CSE flash? Sorry I didn't see that in your guide for the H950 on the AT&T network. I'm looking at your guide and not seeing the CSE Flash unless the LG Tool is the CSE FLash? I had the same problem with SuperSU left over and not able to update. I tried the default Upgrade method, then got a minios OS screen on the the Board method.

It's entirely possible that I am technologically inept, but I am having the exact same issue as the OP. I followed your guide (which was very helpful) for the TOT method, and there is no option to use CSE flash, or at least it's not discussed in the instructions.
I flashed my phone twice using your TOT guide -- pretty sure I followed it to the letter. It completed successfully, but when the phone rebooted, I still had root access. I'm not sure how to unroot this thing so I can receive OTA updates (and maybe sell later on down the road).
Thanks for the help!

Umm, so I found a possible solution on another thread in this forum. Maybe the answer was so simple that nobody thought to mention it. But apparently, you can just remove root access within the SuperUser app; just select "Full Unroot" or "Total Unroot" from settings. Then run this TOT flash, and you should be GTG. I am trying this now and will report as to whether I am successful.

Rooted or not you should be able to go back to stock. And CSE flash is for the kdz method of lg flash tool. Which I didn't realize what model they were needing help with. Also with the H950 LGUP should be used instead of normal flash tool to avoid any issues with the flash tool.

Hmm. Thanks for helping us out. So I am kind of confused. I reinstalled the Tot file using LGUP, and it completed successfully. I selected "REFURB" mode, and it completed successfully. But after it finished, my phone is still rooted. (I verified with root checker.) I just want to go back to stock so I can get OTA updates (and MM hopefully, when/if AT&T releases it). Now my phone won't get OTA updates because it says it's "suspected of rooting." I bought the phone used off of Swappa, so I'm not sure how exactly the original owner rooted it.

At this point you'd be better off waiting for a KDZ of MM when it comes out for the H950. (But remember, root will probably never be achieved for our devices on MM, if that's something you care about).
I remember buying TWO H950s. Both needed the OTA for the latest Lollipop. But despite several hours, several methods, and several hours at the ATT store, I was never able to get OTAs working on either of them. It was impossible.
And supposedly impossible for several other users on XDA, who couldn't get OTAs working for their ATT Flex 2's. So even if you manage to unroot, don't get your hopes high believing OTAs will work.
Did somebody ever able to go back to stock (H950) from rooted 5.1.1? Where did you get the TOT file?
