Does privacy guard? - Security Discussion

really work. Does it block permissions from apps trying to access sensitive information?
what are the cons from using it?
What is the difference between the privacy guard feature vs using a app from the playstore?
I'm using Carbon ROM Kikat.

It works
Yes. It really works. And for your second question: It is just an app which is preloaded so that you don't have to find & download. There are so many programs on play store but I found none of them was working on rooted stock 4.4.4 . There was an Xposed module "AppOps" which worked fine.

If you have Xposed then install Xprivacy instead (and AFWall+).

X-privacy is a bit complicated... Recently I switched to CM11 which has built in privacy guard

as an experiment, completely remove xposed, reboot, and try. chances are that it is xposed itself causing the issue. if its still not working, we will go further after. but with xposed still installed, thats all the help youll get from me.

thats what it was, halo! it had to be disabled to install apps. the install button would be grayed out. anything similar would go through the same process, even regular apps. thank you btw

Do you have "Unknown Sources" checked under the security settings. It should prompt you if you don't but just in case, check that.
I've got the same problem. I can't install apk's since I'm using the latest stock 4.4.3 update. I've never rooted my phone or whatsoever. I can't seem to find a solution for it

I can't think of any reason why you wouldn't be able to install apks. Even on stock and no root, I am fairly sure you are able to.
Check this out. . We discovered this in the Paranoid Android Community the other day.
If you have Echo Notifications Lockscreen installed, whether you have it activated or not, it disables installation of apks and the OK button on certain other dialogs. I went nuts trying to figure out what happened...

[Q] Difference between Greenif-ies versiones for N5

Hi guys,
short question - is there any difference between Greenify from Play Market and as Xposed module?
Is one of them "better" to install?
No
Yes. Some experimental features like Boost mode.
also, hibernation of system apps.

I think he means if there is a difference if he installs from the Play Store or the Xposed repository lol, hence "no". I may be wrong though, OP isn't clear.

[Q] best root apps?

so after a really long time, i finally rooted and put a custom rom on my nexus 5.
i'm pretty sure i missed a lot - so what are the best rooted apps that i can get? the last time i had a custom rom was with a nexus s and xposed was the real deal :silly:

It depends on your needs. I would suggest Titanium Backup, Synapse, some Xposed modules, OS Monitor, SD Maid, Turbo Editor, Viper4Android, ZipSigner...

i'm using the xtrasmooth rom , which is based on the 5.0.1 factory image. so no xposed.

Favorite Xposed Modules

Now that we can use Xposed, what are your favorite modules? Here's what I've got so far (it's a pretty weak list):
Greenify
Gravity Box
XPrivacy
I've got APM+ and GravityBox so far

I thought you don't need xposed for greenify to worn even with root.

You need it for some experimental features.
Amplify
Gravity Box
Snapprefs
There's some other ones I loved but I haven't used Xposed ever since my Nexus 6 got 5.1 months and months ago.
I have the same as OP set up. Unfortunately Power Nap seems to not like the Moto X. I'm hoping that it gets updated and works.
Which file do I flash to get Xposed working? Can someone please let me know which one cause there are so many?
Thanks!

You'll want the SDK22 ARM64 one. Flash that with TWRO and then install the apk.

Yeah it definitely helps. I don't think it's a gigantic improvement but it makes a noticeable difference. Even if it's only a few extra hours in standby or a few minutes more of screen on time it's worth it.
I'm at work and can't remember all of my favs, but crappalinks is one of my favorites now... Removes redirects from websites, so if I click on a link I can open it directly now.
APM+ is also great. Used to use gravity box but may not need it now.

xposed is the framework
gravitybox is a module
(note - don't follow the steps in the video, to install. Instead, use the thread I referenced earlier that has the 2 files.)
Running GB and twisty switch here. All is well

I am not using xposed, but here is a link with more info on gravity box.
http://repo.xposed.info/module/com.ceco.lollipop.gravitybox
Well, I've added to my list. MinMinGuard, Snapprefs, and Xposed GEL Settings (It seems like about half of the options in this module actually work...once its fully working, I shouldn't need Gravity Box anymore)

GPS Spoofing

Hi,
Is anyone tried to spoof with our OnePlus 6?
I usually use CleverSPG as system app without mock location enable, but it's not working...
I have last rom update and root with magisk
CleverSPG moved to system with lucky patcher as usual
umm try with mock location enabled? thats why its there...
fakegps does the job 100% of the time.
It's for Pokemon Go, so if I use mock location I will lose my account
I usually (3 other devices) do that way, lot of people too.
Just wanted to know why it doesn't work this time with OP6...
It was working well with my nexus 6p under Android 8.1.0 before the phone die...

Have you tried using the GPS Joystick app? It can usually work without root, but it will be less reliable (i.e. more rubber banding). Until we have TWRP, I don't think you are able to move the app to the /system partition yet.

Hi, yes.
You need to use a magisk module "App systemizer (Terminal Emulator)" from Veez21 to correctly set app as system app.
