[Q] Google Maps GPS Not working - Nexus 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

This problem is starting to get really annoying. Recently i did a clean flash of cataclysm with code blue kernel, and i remember even on stock lollipop on my other nexus 5, there were no gps issues. This is an RMA unit which i have had for a little over a month now and today i desperately needed GPS cause i was lost...literally.
With 4g and gps it couldnt find me...crap
I have done everything, booted in safe mode, tried calibrating gps, rebooting, reinstalling google maps, everything. Every gps fixing app knows my exact location within seconds of turning on gps. literally, i live out in the country where there aren't many obstacles to obstruct the gps, im in my basement with 2 floors on top of me and STILL those apps find my location no problem. But GOOGLE ****ing MAPS cant find me! Its specifically google maps, everything else uses gps just fine.
any ideas what on earth to do?

I called google and they just offered to replace it. And i desperately dont want to go through that hassle again.
EDIT:
What ive done so far
1. tried safe mode and safe mode recalibration
2. tried factory reset
3. tried reflashing rom and kernel
4. flashing kitkat modems
5. using gps fixing apps

fixed it.
in App Ops on cataclysm rom i enabled location for oogle play services.
It looks like the issue is in play services and not gps

In my ROM, I have option to control each apps individual permissions. (I think you can get "app ops" with xposed. Its built into cataclysm ROM).
I simply went to 'android system' and 'google play services' and enabled location access.

Thanks for your reply, this afternoon I tryied to flash the original SW and hope that this operation can solve my problem...
I'm not an expert and I prefer to use the original ROM, however I've all the option for the geolocation access available and setting on "YES"

[Q] GPS/Navigation issues

Is anyone else having problems with the gps/navigation on after downloading cm 10.1.2 or any of the updates? For whatever reason whenever I try to use my google nag it seems to work but the gps cannot lock in on my coordinates, I tried using navigon and that app just keeps crashing besides that everything else works perfectly. Any ideas what is going on ?
I always flash the AGPS patch from the dev forum on every ROM I've ever used, and I've never had issues with GPS since doing that. Worth a try.

THANK YOU SO MUCH, I took your advice and Googled AGPS patch xda developers and found it no problem, you have no idea how much of a help this was. Just imagine driving and putting on your trust Google nav just to find that its is not working (this was a reality for me) luckily this awesome community has come through once again.

I would also suggest getting 'GPS Status' from the play store. I have found a few times where the GPS needs a kickstart, and GPS Status does it. Just open up GPS Status, and it will get your location, then go back to maps and it will nail it.

I used to do this too when I mixed up giving google apps permission to use GPS with enabling google ads. I simply refused to read that text about google apps and gps and assumed it was google ads lol. Wow did I feel stupid when I finally enabled GPS access for google apps and got that fast GPS again... I felt really stupid dumb :silly:
EDIT:
I've had issues with AGPS patch here in Sweden. When using the correct patch for this region it locks in about 1-2 seconds with an error in two whole kilometers and stays that way for 5-10 minutes after which it starts jumping between the correct location and a 1.5 kilometer error. AGPS patch is really obsolete and useless for me as GPS works flawlessly without it.
Premature celebration
seems I celebrated a bit prematurely, I got the gps working a bit when I patched the location fix however the main problem is still here. That being that the directions are give, my location is found however the actual route guidance just hangs. My location is shown, if I choose the turn by turn list all the correction instructions are give but for some reason the route guidance just hangs. I am now going to try reinstalling stock rom to see if it is a rom issue. Hope someone out there knows of a fix without having to flash back to stock I really like cm 10.1.2

GPS not working

I recently flashed Revolt Rom (LOVE IT) with Gapps and everything went well. It takes a little getting use too only because some processes can take a while like on a reboot for example anyway, for whatever reason my gps is not working now. I tried flashing agps patches but they all fail, I tried gps fix, and that did nothing. All of the gps apps on the playstore do nothing to solve my issue. The location cannot get a fix and just keeps flashing if it does get a fix it is for a few minutes and the navigation does not work. If I go to list preview the correct directions are there but the turn by turn will just hang not sure what to do. Does anyone have any suggestions?
+1, mine used to be good a few months ago. But now, it is driving me crazy.

Wipe data, cache, dalvik and check if google apps are allowed to use gps in location settings.
AGPS patch actually makes my GPS slower as it normally works fast.

Try different roms, try wiping system partition and flash roms. I had this issue too, with and without google apps permission. It was really weird and no one could help me not even Samsung's bs "tech support", they would just tell me "it's a USA phone and it's GPS isn't supposed to work in europe (axxholes!).. What did help me was trying out all of the official touch wiz roms until suddenly an AT&T GB rom "made" it work. Made in quotation marks since I really have no idea of what the issue was or what solved it, since then it's been working flawlessly with all kinds of roms..
As crazy as it sounds that makes the most sense out of everything that i have tried and heard

[Q] com.google.process.location crashing GPlay Services

"Unfortunately, the process com.google.process.location has stopped.
GPS still works, but it doesnt look like AGPS or network location is.
Disabling/reenabling Location Services triggers the crash again.
Don't think any recent settings caused it, I suspected a Play services autoupdate.
So, I cleared caches of Play Service, Play store, etc.
Tried removing readding google account.
Tried uninstalling/reinstalling newest Google play services, still crashes on bootup.
Searched around a few days, this particular process doesn't seem to have caused a lot of trouble for other
Any ideas?
Are you using the "Disable Location Consent" module?
got the same problem, location and play services fc at boot.
it happened after a playstore modification I did, so try to restore your playstore and it should go away.
Also even with this fc at boot, everything works fine for me

Nope, never fooled with that module. If I had would it cause a crash?

Does you network location work? Do you get the recrash if you toggle location services?
network location is not working, only gps.
fc happens every boot or location toggle
I ll try to fix it later and report back>

FIXED! My apologies Lethargy. I WAS using Disable Location Consent module.
But, I sure didn't download it myself, and certainly didn't enavle it. How did it get there? Is it a default module in a new update?
How do I alert the module creator that it causes this crash?

I assume the module creator is aware as this has affected loads of people recently.
It can't auto install. You MUST have installed it at some point. It's not a "default" module.

I know there are no default modules, but it doesn't make any sense. I use location RELIGIOUSLY for Ingress, and would never download or install anything that sounded like it would affect my location.
In fact, I had not touched anything Xposed related in weeks leading up to the problem.
It doesn't add up.

All it normally does is disable the annoying pop up that asks for you to consent to google using location data. This prompt is seen when swapping between different location modes.
Google play services updated in the last week or so. The module worked fine until that happened.

Wow this has been bugging the crap out of me for days. I was getting this error every time i touched my phone. It was seriously more annoying than sam i am. I was just about ready to toss my phone like a football. So glad that this worked. Thanks a lot!
Same issue here, with:
Android 4.4.4
Google Play Services 6.11
Disable Google Network Location consent module 1.2
If I disable the module I have no more problem.
I will report this issue in "Google Network Location consent module" official thread:

[Q] [GPS] No GPS with Google Maps, but with every other app [solved]

I always thought I was affected by that infamous GPS bug that was reported for many custom ROMs, but I neither really cared, nor applied any of the known fixes.
Anyway, today I discovered my GPS works perfectly with apps like GPS Test or with Nokias Here maps but with Google Maps I can't get a signal. I checked privacy guard settings for maps, cleaned cache, rebooted and re-installed the app. No luck (see my signature for further details of my device).
Anyone an idea, what's the problem here? Or what else I could try?
Thanks in advance!

That's strange, if other apps have access to the GPS then most likely something is interfering with gmaps and the system. You said re installing maps didn't help. Try reflashing gaaps (this may be due to a Google services error). If that doesn't help, then clean flash your ROM .
Cheers

Reflashing gapps indeed helped! For whatever reason there seemed to be a problem with Google services.
Thanks very much!

Try calibrating your GPS. I had similar issue. Got solved after calibrating. Check you GPS signal using GPS test app.
Not sure if you found a fix but I'm having the same problem.
Used it first today and as I drove down my street I realised my GPS thought I was facing the opposite way and it wasn't moving at all on the screen.
I kept driving because I knew half of where I was going and about 5 minutes later it changed but was showing me still in my street.
It's like it's lagging but when I quit out and hit the find my location button. It found my location?
GPS on and off
I have model SM-G930W8.
Android 6.0.1
Baseband version G930W8VLU2API1
Kernel version 3.18.14-9105000
I had this issue earlier this year. It's any app that uses GPS (Google Maps, Strava etc.). Took it to a Samsung auth repair center. The tech mentioned that this can happen when doing OTA software updates so he basically wiped the phone and re-set up through his computer that he said had the updated software. It worked for a few months but now I'm having the same problem again.
GPS won't lock. I downloaded GPS TEST app and it cannot fix the location of my phone. I've tried resetting the phone, calibrating the gps sensor and none of them fix the problem. Tried pretty much all the workarounds I can find on the internet and nothing works.
I'd hate to have to keep bringing it to a service center for a proper wipe every few months.
Anyone with any thoughts?
