[FIX] Stuck In Simple Recovery [CM][S4] - Galaxy S 4 General

Hi guys,
I just wanted to share you my Quick and Easy guide on how to fix the "Stuck in Simple Recovery" for CyanogenMod ROMs. I had this just once, a few weeks ago and important data was on my phone that I didn't want be lost. So let's get to it:
1. Take out the battery to make sure Phone is COMPLETELY turned off. (Or just turn it off, just to make sure...)
2. Insert battery. Then hold Volume Down button (not volume up), Home Button and Power Button at the same time.
3. It will say "Downloading" or "Download Mode". Connect your Phone using USB to PC and open up Odin (Download here)
(If it does not show up, Download drivers here)
4. Click on the AP tab on Odin v3.10, and click on the CWM zip file (Select version and Download here)
5. It will reboot (or give an option to reboot).
6. Done!
If this helped you, hit Thanks

[Q] downloading mode?

okay so i've seen where you use the volume up + down + power to go into downloading mode but how do i get to the little digger guy with the shovel? because using odin i dont know if i need to be on the screen with the shovel guy or on the screen where i have the option to reinstall packages, reboot the phone can someone help me?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=731989
reading the stickies is a good place to start
but i've followed that thread step by step and i cannot for the life of me get odin to work
every time i do the volume up+down+power it goes into system recovery mode
If your phone functions you can use adb to get in there too. From your SDK tools folder just type "adb reboot download" and it'll send you directly to download mode
its not the recovery mode i have the problem getting to but when i do get there odin wont recigonize my phone and i need to reset to the stock rom which is why i have a feeling i need to get to the android guy with the shovel

Follow these steps exactly:
Close odin (if it's open)
Unplug phone from USB
Remove SIM/SD card
Remove Battery
Open Odin
Put battery back in
Plug in USB
Hold both volume keys THEN hold power
Continue holding all 3 keys, the screen will come on, DO NOT LET GO
The screen will go black, then turn on again- as soon as it turns off for the second time let go of the power button but continue holding the volume keys.
In a couple seconds you should get the download screen

I understand the frustration, there are a lot of stickies currently and numerous pages to browse to find information on entering download mode.
Try this:
1.) Remove the Battery, SIM card and micro SD Card.
2.) Reinstall the Battery. (DO NOT TURN ON THE DEVICE)
3.) Hold ONLY the volume buttons down and then insert the USB cable.
This should bring you into download mode (The android guy/shovel and will say "downloading....")
You do not need to press the power button at all for this method. Also, be sure to have installed the drivers for the device.

Yes, this is what I did and it works like a charm.
ONLY hold in the Vol-Up/Vol-Down buttons while plugging in the USB cable.
DO NOT press the power button.
thank you so much colton!!!! that worked so easily
haha, I see, you were using the directoins for getting out of the cell-!-cpu screen...

Galaxy ACE Wont boot :[

I have Galaxy ace
I wanted to switch to 2.3.3, so I downloaded the software ROM manager did flash. He asked me to pick and chose just Pelephone Pelephone, he wrote that he succeeded. After Flash went to Backup (backup), I clicked, boom turned off. I gave him a minute or two That's it.
BY THE WAY, you know what this Emergency MOD? Computer can recognize it is about this situation.
help?plzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
it seems that you tried to show some intelligence in flashing rom
who said you to flash with rom manager when the site clearly stated that you have to use odin to flash rom.
the only thing now you can try is putting you phone in download mode and flash with odin and follow the flash guide directions below-
1) Turn off your phone
2) Remove your SIM Card and SD Card
3) Extract previously downloaded firmware
4) Open ODIN 4.38 on your PC
5) Select from extracted archive: OPS, Boot, Phone, PDA, CSC (leave EFS and One Package empty)
Select OPS file : Cooper_v1.0.ops in his field.
Click BOOT button and select: APBOOT_S5830xxxxx_xxx...._user_low_true.tar.md5
Click Phone button and select: MODEM_S5830xxxxx_xxx...._REV03.tar.md5
Click PDA button and select: CODE_S5830xxxxx_xxx...._REV03_user_low_true.tar.md5
Click CSC button and select: CSC_S5830xxxxxx_xxx......_REV03_user_low_true.tar.md5
6) Connect your phone via USB into PC
7) When the screen is turned on hold POWER+VOLUME DOWN+HOME and wait until the phone enters the Download Mode
8) If ODIN detected and recognised your phone should light up the first square to the left side
9) Press "Start" button and wait, the process should take 5-10 minutes
10) If all goes well your phone should reboot automatically
11) Square should change the color to blue and display "PASS" it means that flashing process was successful and we have the newest firmware
12) Disconnect your phone
13) Turn off your phone
14) Insert your SIM Card and SD Card again
15) Turn on your phone
16) Now you have the newest firmware!

Facing the same problem, the critical point the mobile does not respond to power up (either turning on, recovery mode or even download mode), any help please??? I got this mobile less than month now
Samsung Galaxy Ace Wont Boot!!
when i press the power button of my galaxy ace, baring in mind the battery has charge, the empty battery indicator comes up and then the phones turns off straight away. i have tried flashing different versions of android hoping it was a buggy firmware but no luck. this also happens when plugging the phone into an ac power supply. any help?????????
If you cannot access the download mode or the recovery mode then your phone is bricked. All what you can do is go to the service center and pull up a nice story about how it happened while you were sleeping. If you are lucky enough, you will get a replacement.
Btw WRONG THREAD. THERE IS A SEPARATE ONE FOR THE ACE.

Same problem here, only I use Ubuntu 12 and was wondering if there is a way of re-flashing using download mode and Ubunu?

Can't finish installing Serendipity VII

I followed the following instructions on the serendipity website but after going through steps 1-12, I ended up with an unrooted Samsung GT-I9000 2.3.3 which cannot be rooted with SuperOneClick 1.9.5 (using both GingerBreak and psneuter). Since the last portion of the installation requires CWM Recovery, I think this might not work.
I am pretty sure that somebody is going to scold me for posting this thread with the answer right in front of me; I swear that I tried looking for somebody who had this same problem, but couldn't find anything remotely close.
On a side note, this phone is a Samsung Captivate. When I did the first instance of Odin, I pressed volume up and down at the same time to get into download mode. When I did it the second time (after it had been upgraded to the GT-I9000), I had to press power and down volume to get to Download, so I'm pretty sure the version of phone has changed.
I don't know what I did wrong in the instructions; I would have posted this to this thread, but xda-developers won't let me post to the developer section. I couldn't find anyone else with the same problem. Please help. Thank you. (This is non-vital, the phone still works and I'm able to send/receive calls, but for some reason the home button doesn't work. I can live without that for a few days)
Installation:
1. Download this package.
2. Open Odin3 1.7.
3. Select the PDA, PHONE, CSC, and PIT files in their correct spots.
4. Connect phone in download mode. Use a USB port that's on your motherboard (the ones on the back of the computer). Use the Samsung USB cable.
5. Ensure that Auto-reboot and Re-Partition are both checked. These have a tendency to change after plugging the phone in, so double check them.
6. This is where the bootloader will be flashed, along with stock Gingerbread. Hit Start.
7. Allow the phone to boot.
8. Close Odin3, and open a fresh one. Select Reorient_Kernel_1.1 in the PDA box.
9. Reboot into download mode (adb reboot download, or hold Vol Down + Power).
10. Plug the phone into the computer.
11. MAKE SURE RE-PARTITION IS NOT CHECKED. If it is, you'll soft-brick and have to start over.
12. Flash the kernel (hit start). Allow the phone to reboot.
~IF YOU ARE CURRENTLY ON A SAMSUNG-BASED GINGERBREAD ROM WITH BOOTLOADERS (NOT CM or MIUI), START HERE~
13. Place the ROM .zip (You know, the one you downloaded from the giant link up there) onto the SD Card.
14. Reboot into Recovery (adb reboot recovery, or Vol Up + Power).
15. Flash ROM with CWM.
16. Enjoy!
Note, you will get some popup at start about not having network time. Just hit cancel and pretend it never popped up.
if u did step 11 and 12 you should have the reoriented kernel installed and hold vol up+power to get into cwm recovery mode and choose install from zip option, choose the zip which should be on ur sd card before. then u can flash S7 .zip and wham ban thank you ma'am u got it done
There is a Serendipity sticky in the Q&A subforum where questions like this should be posted. Please use the sticky before starting a new thread in the wrong forum.

Fix For Freezing After 4.4.2 Update

I've seen quite a few posts of people with freezing after installing 4.4.2 no matter what they do and both myself and a friend have been at the mercy of this - myself with a custom rom and my friend with the Samsung OTA update.
From what I remember from back in the HD2 days with similar symptoms it's related to the baseband/modem - a check of both her phone and mine showed the baseband was incorrect for the ROM and updating it resolved the issue.
The following guide will flash the latest stock, unrooted, NB4 ROM with a matching modem/baseband.
Whilst it shouldn't affect Knox as everything is official signed files (and Knox is fine on my friends phone after I did this procedure), I take no responsibility for your own Knox status.
***THIS *SHOULDN'T* AFFECT KNOX IN ANY WAY AS YOU ARE ONLY FLASHING SIGNED STOCK SAMSUNG STUFF***
First off, backup anything on the phone you want to keep and download the following then extract them all to the same folder:
Samsung USB Drivers - http://developer.samsung.com/android...er-for-Windows
Odin - http://uploaded.net/file/hwtdrpll
Latest 4.4.2 Firmware - https://mega.co.nz/#!QVwlVDgJ!QyAxmD...TVvdM07LOs0V10
PIT File for 4.4.2 Firmware - http://forum.xda-developers.com/show...9&postcount=77
NB1 Modem Firmware - https://mega.co.nz/#!JJBglRDY!ZT5SkT...4obRSKpB4B8NB1
1) Install Samsung Drivers
2) On your phone go Settings --> General --> About and keep tapping "Build Number" until it says developer mode enabled.
3) Go back to Settings --> General and tap Developer Options.
4) Tick enable "USB Debugging" then plug the phone into your computer.
5) Push and hold Volume Down + Home Button + Power Button all at the same time - hold until it goes black and vibrates indicating it
rebooted. Once it vibrates, release the power button but keep the other two held down - when you get the prompt on the screen press Volume Up - this will put the phone into Odin mode.
6) On the computer, right click Odin and click "Run as Administrator"
7) Click the button labelled PIT and select the file "My_N9005.pit"
8) Click the button labelled AP and select the file labelled "N9005XXUENB4_N9005DBTENB1_N9005XXUENB1_HOME.tar.m d5"
9) Make sure Re-Partition is ticked and click start.
10) When it finishes your phone will reboot - once you see the Samsung Logo, put the phone back into Odin Mode by pushing and holding Volume Down + Home Button + Power Button again, same as last time. Don't close Odin just yet.
12) In Odin, click Reset and then click the button labelled AP and select the file called "N9005XXUENB3_Modem-XXUENB1-LTE.tar.md5"
13) Click Start
14) When it finishes it should reboot. Dont panic about your phone appearing german, you can change the language right at the start on the first screen
***Optional Steps***
If your phone doesn't boot still, do the following:
1) Hold down Volume Up + Home Button + Power until it reboots, then release the power button keeping the other two held down (Basically the same as Odin mode except Volume Up instead of Volume Down).
2) You should now be in recovery - ignore any errors. Select Wipe Data/Factory Reset then Wipe Cache Partition - you don't need to reboot in between.
3) Once that's done, reboot and you should be up and running fine. If it still hasn't booted after 10 mins at this point, it's the phone itself most likely.
hi what is the password for download.. mega is asking for decryption key...

Hello.
1st you should search Google and this Forum for recovering your device, setting ClockWorkMod Recovery (or other Recovery); and learn how to either flash the recovery and rom.
Since there are tons of threads around, and you seem not to have done any research i'm writing a "brief tutorial" on how to do it. If you feel lost you have some references bellow.
Just do some search, you will get there, as i included the most of the tutorial info bellow . :good:
If you need further help: Make sure you've done some research, and only then ask for help.
Note: I'll be assuming that you will find some files missing around the XDA Threads. In this case send me a Private Message (or ask here) for a specific file.
If i have it i can send you a temporary link.
Before Starting you aknowledge that you are responsible for the action done to your device.
Either Ways...
1) Enter Download Mode.
- Remove USB Cable;
- Remove the Battery and palce it back;
- Press: Volume Down + Menu Key + Power Button (Do not release the buttons until you see the "Download Mode Logo")
2) Download Your ROM
IMPORTANT NOTE: DO NOT CONFUSE THE ROM NAMES!
For Example there are 2 Samsung Models wich have a very similar model name (i9003 and i9300).
Make sure you have selected i9003 (wich stands for Samsung Galaxy i9003 SL).
3) Download and Run "Odin" (or Heimdall) - Used to Flash your Rom Files.
4) Run Odin; place the ROM files under the correct place and Start.
TIP #1: Always make sure you follow the ROM Developer Instructions.
TIP #2: While using Odin Never (EVER) check the EFS Clear; or Nand checkBoxes.
5) After Flashing your ROM; put your device under "Download Mode" - Same procedure mentioned above;
6) Reset ODIN and Load your CF-ROOT file under PDA section. (Must be a CF-ROOT for Your ROM)
7) Load your Device under Recovery;
Once again; without your USB cable connected to the device:
- Press and Hold: Volume UP + Menu Button + Power (Release the buttons when the Boot Logo is displayed)
Voilá! You are now under Recovery Mode.
Note that CF-ROOT:
- Roots Your Device
- Include ClockWorkMod Recovery
Some Extra Tips : These are very important! (In case you lose your IMEI - While Flashing Roms)
- Go Learn on how to Backup your EFS
- Learn what is the EFS
Please Press Thanks Button if this helped you. This will keep me motivated to waste some time writing tutorials like this)

Ok. Sorry about that. If you dont specify what you know and what you've done we (users) don't have a clue about what you know. x)
Have you tried putting into recovery without the USB Cable?
If you did follow to the next step.
There is a rumour saying that there is a button on the back of the phone (a tiny hole between camera and speaker). - I never tested (never needed to)
Remove the back cover to access it.
That button combined with: Vol. Down + Menu + Power -
in this case: Pressing that Tiny button with a clip + Vol. Down + Menu + Power
Release when the device enters Download Mode.
Let me know how it went
Another way would be more difficult (just seen it today on youtube): (I wouldnt try this thing on my device though...)
Like connecting 3 resistors (resistences? - dont know how its called in English) toghether and touching the two first pins of the power conector (on the phone).
"The 2 first pins": counting from the side where you plug the speaker.
Ok. Sorry about that. If you dont specify what you know and what you've done we (users) don't have a clue about what you know. x)

Yeah... Connect 2 point . is the way of test point. . thanks
No problem. Glad i could help.
There's also a thread on the General section for JTAG it may also be good help.

Infact the only problem is i havent the jtag
If i may suggest...
If you have some minimal knowledge on cable connections/electronics then:
Get a usb cable you can "destroy" and do the connection.
Or google for: android usb cable schematic.
Cut your usb cable in half (dont cut too close to the plug so you can re-assemble the cable), do the connection to load it under Download Mode, re-assemble the cable (properly - so you dont damage your device); flash a safe rom (like Full DDLF2).
Thats how i would do.
Just proceed with caution and patience.
Note that this is a risky thing to do and that im not responsible for any damage that could result from that procedure.
If you dont feel confortable with the procedure ask some friend or familiar that can help you out; cuz i dont want your phone to burn.
X)
Even though i never tested, it seems pretty simple to me.

Thanks for suggestion!
Maybe..
I think you are pressing the button combination for too long. I once had a similar problem.
Leave the buttons as soon as you see the Samsung logo. make sure if you're pressing all three correctly.
PS: that secret back button doesn't work for me.
