Digital High GPE Rom unable to go to specific website??? - Verizon HTC One (M8)

Hello!
I have kind of a weird issue that really has me quite confused. Running the latest GPE rom from Digital High on my Verizon HTC One m8. Everything works flawlessly and I am so happy with it... Except for the ESPN Fantasy Hockey app, which complains of not having an internet connection. Tried clearing cache, uninstalled and reinstalled the app. Nothing works. So as a workaround, I try to go to games.espn.go.com in Chrome browser, and the webpage is not available... How weird is that? I even tried factory resetting the rom and it still doesn't work. At first I suspected a DNS issue, so tried using an app to manually set DNS servers to public google servers (8.8.8.8), but that also did nothing.
For the sake of being thorough, this happens whether I am using LTE, Wifi at work and Wifi at home. I know it's kind of a strange isolated issue, but if any of you running a similar setup could try accessing that website, it would be great to know if that is where the issue lies... My wife's Moto X has no issues at all accessing this so I a certain it is specific to my phone (just want to know if it is the rom or my phone, and hoping someone here will have a brilliant idea to fix it).
Thanks!

Are you using an ad blocking app? If so, disable it and then see if you can get there. The hosts file it installs might have an entry in it that's causing problems. I have no idea why espn would be in there (probably not) but it can't hurt to try. If you're not using an ad blocking app I can't think of anything else that would cause this.

Wow, that was it! I didn't have an adblock program installed, but remembered seeing that in the Aroma installer when I installed it. Just reflashed with that option unchecked and all is well. I can once again keep tabs on how badly I am losing in my Fantasy Hockey League: THANK YOU SO MUCH!

Glad to hear it. Blocking ads is nice but as you can see, can also cause it's own share of problems at times.
If you still want to block them you can use an app like Adfree. It does pretty much the same thing as what you had but it makes it simple to revert back to your original hosts file when needed. Otherwise you could flash it in aroma again and when needed, just rename your hosts file temporarily. Personally, I prefer the app simply because it saves a bunch of drilling down through folders to get at the hosts file manually.

FlexProvider what is it and why do we need it

I am the type of person that hates having things running in the background that I do not need or do not know what they are. Is this FlexProvider process part of android OS or some type of app put in by TMO or LG? I have tried multiple ways of disabling it and uninstalling it but all lead to any internet based app force closing. Can anyone shed some light on this?
it's for data connection. you need it. thats all i know
Yeah I know that but what I'm trying to figure out is why. I dont remember it in any other android OS that iv had. Is it specific to this phone or 2.2? Like if we had a working ASOP build would it include it?
Did ever ever shed any more light on what this is?
I found these files in /etc/flex.. called flex.db and flex.xml. The flex.db contains the service provider details such as ..
Operator key, Nation, Operator, MCC, MNC, GID, SPN.
I really don't have any idea of why these db for !
I uninstalled it in gb and it doesnt cause a problem like in froyo.
HELP!!!! please
I deleted saved data from flex provider and now i cant do nothing, even put it in airplane mode because everything force closes.i didnt know what was flexprovider.....Please help me ..what to do...e mail me:[email protected]
Sounds like you shouldn't have a phone that multitasks....your prob wasting more battery and time trying to see what is always running than by just leaving things alone

Uninstalled it on v21a O3D and phone works like a charm. All internet and phone services are a go. Market skyfire stock browser opera facebook twitter all working just fine...
CIQ Client?
I wonder if it's LG's CIQ Client. I hope not. If you're unfamiliar with CIQ, google "Researcher's Video Shows Secret Software on Millions of Phones Logging Everything" (title of a Wired article). I'd post a link but new members aren't allowed.
It is none of that. It handles setting your phone up to work with specific carrier settings, such as what languages are available, default time zones, mms settings, etc. You know, boring stuff that is the guts of your phone. I think the system has defaults it uses if flex provider is missing in system/etc/flex/flex.DB.
It is certainly not ciq, and I would not delete it. Doing so may not overtly break things, but it could cause issues.
There hasn't been any evidence of Ciq on LG yet, but it is always possible. I'm watching the situation.

[Q] adblock for tablets?

Hey i use to use this for adblocking on my phone
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=741435
So i gave it a shot on my tf but no joy, so i was wondering if anyone has got a away of blocking ads in the browser not really fussed about ads in the apps
Thanks
Dolphin Browser has an adblock plugin that doesn't work very well. That's about it.
If you're rooted, just use AdFree, its free on the market. Just be sure to leave the symlink box unchecked and you should be good to go.
I use Ad-free from the market from dev big Tin Can or something on both my phone and now my TF it works well. It only works in portrait mode on the TF but it gets the job done the same, and best of all free on the market!
Thanks i've just had a look on the market but couln't find it anywhere :-\
Edit: just found it going to give it a try now thanks
was it just me or does adblock appear to not work anymore after 3.1 update?

No it still works.
Absolute Systems has this adblock feature too (using hosts). It blocks more sites than adfree, but the program costs some money. You can also manually edit the hosts file to point the site hosting ads to localhost or 127.0.0.1, which is what adfree and Absolute Systems are doing. Google will never add adblock features to the stock browser since they started their business with revenue from ads.
Firefox mobile has adblocker plus and it works amazingly well. Firefox doesn't support flash yet, but if you're doing general web browsing the trade-off with the adblock is well worth it

Wow i guess i browse way too much xda and install too many custom things. I read the thread title as adb-lock and thought "wtf? Sonething new?"

Rooted and using adfree, works nicely.
Have encountered a few banner locations displaying the couldn't be loaded bit, so either I need to restart to flush the dns cache or if that still happens, locate/edit the "page not found" default bit.
I'm also using Firefox beta 5.0 with Adblock plus. Works just like on the desktop. There was just an update to FF tonight, and I see that they fixed a couple of the little bugs.

Enable ad to allow hulu plus app to play

I recently got a month free trial to hulu plus, and wanted to try out the market app for android. I was able to download and install, log in, and even select what show to watch, but it never got past the first ad. It just said buffering...and eventually gave me a network error. well, I knew that my connection was fine, so a little research yielded these results.
http://www.droidforums.net/forum/team-d1-miui/110780-disable-ad-blocking.html recommends allowing certain advertising through, by navigating to /system/etc/hosts and deleting whatever ads you want to allow though.
http://www.hulu.com/support/article/166627 mentions that by allowing ads.hulu.com and p.hulu.com you may be able to work around certain playback issues. even though this was meant for firefox, i figured they use the same ad base.
so, I deleted those entries in my system/etc/hosts file and voila! hulu now works flawlessly.
fwiw, i am running miui 1.8.12 on my nexus s, with matr1x kernel.
hope this helps out!
What/where to delete to enable hulu?
Hi, i know this thread is a little old but im having the same problem. My rom has add block so i went in /system/etc/hots and opened hots using text viewer. but hosts is a really LONG list and i don't understand anything in it. I dont even know what im looking for. If you could tell me how you deleted the things that allowed hulu to play i would greatly appreciate it
Thanks
Edit: nevermind, i figured it out. I realized in text editor it lists things in alphabetical order. So i found the "culprit" under H (ads.hulu.com)
thanks anyway

Go away mirror!

Any reason why the app "Mirror" refuses to leave my "frequent" apps list, even though I have only opened it once (after noticing that it refused to leave my frequent apps list) and haven't opened it for over a month? I know I could disable or uninstall (rooted) but I'd rather not for the one random situation where it would be useful...
Sent from my HTC One S using Tapatalk 2
Just flick it up, it should eject itself from the list.
edit: realized I'm thinking of recent apps, this may not be what you mean
Just uninstall ,if ya need a mirror go to camera and change to front camera, same thing.

How do remove the camera app?
There is still an underlying problem. Certain apps are in my frequent list even though I have never used them, and they push out apps that I use several times a day. Is there any way to "never show" certain apps in frequent?
Yes, I suppose the camera app would be just as good, so I will disable Mirror, but there are other persistent apps as well...

I understand. However, I found another mirror app that works better than the stock one, and so I use it when I need to and have disabled the first one. I realize that it doesn't solve the underlying issue but it can help for now.

That's the one I use.

[Q] Browser closing unexpectedly

I'm running Sensation XE with Android 4.03/3.33.401.106 and I'm having problems with the browser closing down on certain websites either before it fully loads or a few seconds later. No error messages or force close message.
I have seen some references to this on this site but no real solutions to the problem.
I tried clearing cache etc. I thought it might be Flash so I tried unistalling updates, no change. Uninstalled Avast antivirus as well.
This also may be happening to my wife's HTC One S occasionally.
Any ideas?

I've also tried Settings/Advanced/disabling Flash and On Demand, no difference.
If you are using the stock browser then try using another browser like Google Chrome, Fire Fox, or Dolphin. I know this is not exactly a fix but it is work around. Fire Fox and Dolphin both support Adobe Flash and flash does not cause real problems with Chrome except on a few websites. I personally use Chrome and hardly ever come across a site I have to have flash for.
Now something else you can try if you have not is to clear your browser history and your cookies.
I have had the same issue under the stock browser. Try the following in your browser: "Settings->Advanced->Enable JavaScript" UNCHECK this. It worked for me! Or if you decide to use different browser I can recommend Chrome! I hope this helps!

Thanks to both replies above. I have unchecked Javascript and things seem stable so far, I'll keep checking. Just so disappointed that the stock app for such an important function doesn't work properly! Any further problems and I'll take up your advice and move to Chrome.
Yeah also got this issue using stock browser but it only happens on this one website...pisses me off as the page will load then as I'm scrolling down the **** just closes...anyway gonna try the uncheck java and see how that works
