Did you ever find anything out? Anyone know if you take the ota, downgrade kernel and use towelroot then update the kernel?

Nope I bit the bullet and tripped knox.

(Q) newb question regarding tripping knox

So I've been rooting my Samsungs since my Galaxy S2, but tripping Knox has always been unclear... As of know I'm running stock recovery, stock NE5 rooted and have 0x0... Does that mean I have not tripped Knox yet?
And if it doesn't, will I trip Knox by flashing a custom recovery?

That is correct, you have not tripped Knox yet, and yes, flashing custom recovery will trip Knox

Ok thank you. Other than voiding warranty by tripping Knox, is there any other consequence?
Will I still be able to run art, use every feature on the phone if I do trip Knox?

Recovery that won't trip knox?

I'm coming from VZW where we had SafeStrap to flash roms without tripping knox. Is there anything like that for the Sprint variant of the S5? I'm assuming safestrap wouldn't work on the sprint variant correct?

Correct, if you want to flash a custom ROM on a Sprint s5 you'll unfortunately have to trip Knox

Root without tripping knox?

Will there be any effort to obtain root but not trip knox?
I will pay. It seems most have just given up on keeping it.
Remember, safestrap on note 3? That was bomb.
All my notes (1-5) so far haven't tripped knox, I hope to not start now.
Roms without all that bloatware is so nice

They should be able to do it, they did it for the S6. I'm waiting until the 6 month mark before I just regular root.

They used a engineering bootloader which was leaked.

Root (even temporary) without tripping knox ?

Just bought N915F and want to root it to use adblock, TB and call recorder.
Is there any way to root it without tripping knox counter ?
Read about Kingroot but not sure if it safe.
Really tempted but want to know for sure if there is a way to have root (even just until reboot) ?
P.s does app like adblock need to have root access all the time or it enough to give it root once with temporary root (kingroot for example) and it will still work afterwards ?
Thank you for helping.
What firmware do you have?

If that is 5.1.1 I'm not sure if root works. If it is 5.0.1 or below there is root.

It is 4.4.4
How can I root it without tripping the knox for sure?
I don't want to update it to lollipop because I read that there are bugs and battery life decrease.

You can't root it yet without tripping knox. Maybe kingroot has an option, you can search for it in play store. They don't have a working solution for lollipop yet, but maybe for kk. You can try, but remember the risks..
Personally I chose to root with cwm and then flashing super su. Knox 0x1...
I'm on 5.0.1 and I don't experience any battery drain compared to kitkat. Nor any bugs. Guess some are unlucky.
Only thing is camera shutter is no longer on the edge, and Facebook notifications can be a little bothersome when you're playing games as they now comes both on edge screen and main screen. Samsung really should do something about this.

There is anyone that tried kingroot and can give his opinion?
If Knox tripped, Samsung won't repair even if it is a hardware problems? I don't care about software services but only about the hardware.

I have heard from ppl that some SC are not that concerned with KNOX.
Personally havent had that pleasure yet.
I rooted my phone today itself. God forbid something bad happens and i am forced to do a trip to SC, and they refuse my warranty on the basis of KNOX, i'll find a way to hard brick it so badly that not even the splash screen would boot up!
After reading and searching, I rooted mine N915F yesterday but only with Chainfire root method. Cf-autoroot didn't work for me.
As for sc, you right! If they won't honor warranty because of knox, making hardbrick will shut them off.
Personally, I have a Nexus 5 and never had Knox or rooting problems but my wife stick to Sami. Have knox on her S4 mini and now on Edge. I really hate Sami for this but as you all know, happy wife = no heading for the husband

Current Root status for G920i on 5.1.1 14 Oct Update?

Hi guys,
I just got a new g920i on 5.1.1. I checked Chainfire and his root only supports up to 5.02. What is the currently the easiest way to root/install custom ROM such as XtreSolite on my S6? is it compatible to begin with?
the guide to root here also doesn't work with my model: http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s6/general/s6-g920f-5-0-2-engineering-bootloader-t3209916
need to be doubly sure as I don't want to brick my phone after tripping knox..
Use a custom kernel to root, easy as can be.

I think this is the most asked and most answered question on XDA right now. If tripping Knox concerns you, don't root.
