Note 3 , Lollipop and RAW images - Galaxy Note 3 General

Hi guys , in last week I looked for information about the ability of Android 5.0 Lollipop to capture RAW photos. Apparently Android allows us to shoot RAW photos.
And my favorite camera app has ability to take these photos - look here
http://www.camerafv5.com/pages/raw-shooting.php
Here are some samples
http://www.camerafv5.com/pages/raw-samples.php
I look for information about our phones Note 3 but cant found nothing. For the moment only LG Nexus 5 and Motorola Nexus 6 support this cool feature.
Is there some ROM here in Android Development section that supports capturing photos in RAW.
Would be happy if some developer deal with it :highfive:
Cheers !

I'm interested in this as well, there seems to be an app for the Nexus 5 and 6 that can do .raw with Lollipop. The Note 3 should definitely be able to, all all we need is someone with the know how tho make an app that can do it.

Samsung didn't included the needed API on his latest kernel. We will need the source first so devs can create their custom kernels with RAW support.

Shame Can't wait to see how much better the quality of pics are once we are able to do. raw.
Being able to shoot raw video would be a nice addition as well.

I know! That's why I always keep my Canon DSLR at hand. Can't even compare the quality of a photo taken by my note 3 and my DSLR in RAW

You can find it in the Market

"Filmic Pro" like video recording apps on Android...

I have Galaxy S2 and as everyone knows its camera is beast but sadly we can't see its own real performance. Android market has full of games and programs so android is not crawling anymore but there is no any video recording program like iphone's "filmic pro" which have 48 mb/s video bitrate & exposure lock & manual focus etc... Is it so hard to do? We still working camera hacking which is changing only video/audio bitrates and its just peak to 30 mb/s but its quality is still not enough. We need an app! Don't you think it is?
i like to know this to... for SG4T
Agreed, anyone??! I'm looking for it, and still no solution. Especially for manual focus while shooting video.
Agree with you guys! I really miss an app like filmpic pro. It's able to shoot with 24 fps what I really miss from available android camera apps.
Check this out!!!!

Thanks I already use that but exposure lock and fps features are not working,(at least for me) In this case, it has focus problems while you tap the record button. (it leaves focused position to zero suddenly) Plus, image quality is not quite enough even on 50mb bitrate etc... I'm wondering, they were saying exposure lock comes with ICS a long time ago but why are we still waiting for it?

Where do you found this info? I asked them about that but they never replied to me so I think they will never release this product for android. By the way, android is not like ios and iphone, there is a lot of brand and models which is different hardwares for android phones. I guess its hard to handle that to get this product work on every android phones.

Oh yes thanks but as I understand that topic, one day if FilmicPro will release an app for another device except Ipad or Iphone, it will be for a specific device (just galaxy s4, lumia 920 or whatever) not all android phones or windows phones. Thats sad.
does anyone have patched version of filmic pro 6.0..?

4k recording on Lollipop

Hey all, I haven't heard much about camera specs in all the excitement about Lollipop and now PA on the G3, I am on CM12 now and loving it but I miss having 4k recording on the camera... Any way to bring this back? Maybe a camera app port? [emoji1]
That is the only reason I went back to a stock based ROM. Love my camera.
I know this is something we can do... We have some great developers here... WINK WINK!... That is the only only thing it is missing. I'm going to try some build.prop edits to see if it will work, but I doubt it.

Agreed, CloudyG3 is great. It's my go to ROM unless I'm on CM12, I had to flash back today because I'm having WiFi issues on CM.

I have had many phones...Nexus, Touchwiz, Sense, and now the G3...it cannot be done.
But the ability to record 4k is in the hardware, right? If it were strictly a software up conversion then yes it would be an issue, but if it is native to the camera hardware it seems like the camera app would just need to have the support for that feature of the sensor...
I sorta think its silly to record in 4k without even having a 4k TV to play it against. I honestly can't justify it, so I'll stick with the pros of having cm12 instead. Fwiw the Google camera isn't all that bad really. If I need pro photos, that's what my Sony nex is for.

But we do all own a phone that plays 4k... And if you down sample to 1080p it retains a lot of sharpness and clarity not possible from strait 1080p recording.

This is the thing right here. I want to be able to record in 4k so that I can downsample/crop/frame a 1080p edit of that footage with amazing clarity and control.
I desperately want to be able to do this on AOSP on the G3, but the going, thus far, is slow.
Recently YouTube brought back 4k playback. Check out the GoPro channel. Sweet stuff. They need an LG G3 channel...
I don't think the quality in stock vs Google camera can ever be matched sadly.

Stock camera is ages ahead of the CM Camera (Googles), there is just no comparison, once you look at the photos on a big screen you notice the lower quality on the Google camera photos., also with CM you will loose:
Laser Focus, 4K video recording and Slow Motion
If your recording in 4k only to convert to 1080 because it looks better it's because your editing software isn't doing it's job. I've tried it both ways and get the same results. And yes unless you're filming for a professional job that will use cinema standards or own a 4k TV recording in 4k just takes up too much space for no reason. I also recommend waiting quite a few years before attempting to get a useless UHD TV.

Early camera test X Play vs Galaxy S6

the guys at mobilesyrup have done a nice shootout with the 2 cameras -- and the results are good, imo, on the X Play side.
indeed, it could've been better with an improved camera app from Motorola, but that could come in a later update. for now, all I can say, that for half the price of a S6/Edge, the Moto X Play does pretty well on the camera sector. so, can't wait for my order to arrive!
here is the link: http://mobilesyrup.com/2015/08/15/camera-shootout-moto-x-play-vs-samsung-galaxy-s6/
Nice, but my first impression using Moto X play camera is that, you still feel like using a motorola camera, not in a good way. Even with the previous generation moto x, i could take some good shot, but you know, still a little slow to focus, a slow starting camera. I'm coming from a Galaxy S6 edge, and i still have my moto x 2gen and Droid Turbo. I will make some everyday random shots and check the results.
Does anyone know if the X play supports camera2 api? a lot of these points will be moot for us that are more serious photographers if we can shoot .dng files

I have the Nexus 5 and I use Camera FV-5 app to take RAW pictures. I just got the Moto X Play and when I installed Camera FV-5, it says that the device isn't compatible to take RAW photos. I have read somewhere (possibly on XDA) that it could be a software thing and Motorola just needs to enable it.

Question GCam for Xperia 5 III?

Ive always wanted to try GCam and see if its all the hype it says it is.
Is there a modded version out for the Xperia 5 III? Thanks
None of previous Xperia (for the last 3 generations at least) flagship smartphone had working Gcam. Suggest this one will be no different.
bruh how is that even possible
I've been playing with one on my 5 ii, and the results are pretty good. Not as great as I expected, but that doesn't surprise me. The Sony hardware is not optimized to work with the software, and you could probably tweak the algorithms to make it work better with the Sony hardware. But, I don't have time to tweak the hundreds of settings in the GCAM mods to see what works best.
Where you have:
BSG: MGC_8.1.101_A9_GV1zfix
Download MGC_8.1.101_A9_GV1zfix by BSG.
www.celsoazevedo.com
It's not close to perfect, but it works on all 3 rear cameras.
Night mode doesn't work very well because Sony only exposes expores up to 1s for external apps, and the GCam crashes when tries to use more than 1s to capture more light.

Sorry, for that.
This site is a place where most of GCam mods are posted, for multiple devices and from multiple Devs, instead of even sketchier telegram groups.
The link in question I posted is from bsg19071979 here on XDA.

The biggest difference I can see, is in low light scenes, the google camera takes much better photos, and removes almost all the noise without losing to much detail.
In cases that the Xperia Camera clips the background, the Gcam resolves some detail in the clouds for example.
Overall I don't recommend it.
- Auto focus is it or miss.
- Touch to focus freezes the viewport.
- Video recording doesn't work.
- Selfie camera doesn't work because Sony uses a cheap Samsung sensor.
- Night mode doesn't work properly because Sony doesn't expose all the camera API properties.
- Out of the box the photos are a bit under saturated.
The diferent versions don't make any diffence in the case of the Xperia 5 III, that I know off.
Im my hold phone I needed a camera with a specific name to allow the google camera to access all the camera features in original ROM. More or less what sony does with the creator' color profile for specific apps.

I'm using rev X of the one ending in MGC. It runs okay. A little sluggish, but I don't have crashes. I did find a profile on the web and loaded it. GCAM on the Xperia cameras is a tool, but not a perfect one. I've learned from experimentation what areas it does well and what times it doesn't. I find it hard to say if it's better or worse than the stock app because it is situation dependent. If you're looking for something that you can replace the stock app with, your expectations will not be met. However, if you're looking for an app that does better in many low light situations where you have to shoot handheld, then it will give you capability you don't have with the stock app.

Disagree with X 5 III taking better photos than Pixel 5. I wish it was true so then it would be no need in Gcam. X 5 III takes good enough photos in perfect light conditions only. That's just my experience (with X 1 III though).

I don't like the quality output straight out of camera. Photos come out underexposed, out of focus, lack of clarity and lack of HDR too often.

This is exactly what I did! I 'm really happy that I was able to get rid of that overpriced, overhyped device. Certainly it is not worth even $800 to my opinion. Just because of underwhelming camera performance alone.
I currently have a Pixel 4a and an Xperia 5 iii. The difference in low light scenes is astonishingly in the Pixel's favor. During the day I really like the Xperia's colors and having multiple zoom levels is great too. But in poor light the $349 Pixel cleans the Xperia's clock. Sure, with a tripod and a static scene I could get a better result on the 5 iii perhaps but in most situations it's not close. Google has bottled smoke or something.
