[Q] Serius battery drain Mi3 - General Questions and Answers

Hi guys.. i want to share my story with my xiaomi mi3 please listen i need some help.
I had my mi3 for more than 5 months, until suddenly closed and never opened again(i tried EVERYTHING) i send it back to service they fix it by changing the mainboard, BUT when i received my mi3 back it has extremely fast battery drain, my mi3 cant handle more than 2hour screen on time(with cleared installed rom without any program/ also i tried many roms clearly installed) i have tried many times calibration apks i have tried full discharge/charge battery cycle, every time the battery life was the same...some times the battery falls from 14% to 10% immediately..so anyway i said is the battery and I CHANGED the battery with a new one..
GUESS WHAT..again screen on time maximum 2-3hours WITHOUT using it a lot only some sms/phone calls..
WTF i have to do now? what can cause the problem whaaaaat? when i bought my mi3 the battery life with heavy using it was 5-6hours screen on time, and now faiiiill..
what can i do? please tell me what i have to CHANGE again..
Maybe it is the antena that draining battery? because some times i have bad signal so is trying to find signal..(before many months when the phone was brand new i didnt have never problems with my signal)
what more can i do?

[Completed] Strange android system battery draining

Hello everyone!
I own a LG G3 D855 and from the moment I bought it, I've noticed problems regarding battery life. After some resets, the store changed my battery. Despite this, it remained more or less the same. I usually never pass 3 hours of screen-on-time (no gaming!) with a full charge. After that, I considered it was due to the 2K display and reports around the internet talk about 4 hours with this phone, so I became thinking it was quite normal to have this battery life (asking your opinion, guys). Notice I usually have wifi on; 3g, nfc and gps turned off.
However there's a second problem. Sometimes, at random days, like it happen today, I get android system using more battery than the screen (around 50-60%).
I'm avoiding sending it over to the warranty, because I'll be 30 days without the phone and not sure they're figure out the problem.
Any help?
PS: I'm running stock Lollipop, haven't rooted yet. Same behaviour when I had 4.4

Battery life ... oh there are many different fators that influence the battery life.
For example: The battery (capacity and health), the firmware (many the kernel), the apps, the usage, the system/apps settings, the temperature, the (wifi and/or mobile) signal strength, etc.
So it's hard to say if your battery life is "normal" or not.
For detailed discussion about the battery life on your device, please post in the G3 General > Battery Life Discussion thread.
If you think your battery is fine and suspect an app draining your battery, I recommend to install and use Better Battery Stats (BBS) app.
For some stats you will need to root your phone though. But you can record all stats and post a dumpfile from the app to the app thread, and the "experts" will analyze it for you ... helping to identify the culprit.

Nexus 5 battery drain - new battery, new ROM, still persists

My beloved red Nexus 5 starts acting up... the battery drains extremely fast. Some weeks ago, I could barely make it to 2pm without having to recharge after unplugging. So I got a new battery (directly from LG, so definitely a genuine part) which improved the situation, but didn't completely solve the problem. Additionally, I flashed a CM 13 CAF ROM (using myfluxi's kernel) onto the N5 - I enjoy it so far, but there was actually no further change converning battery life.
Right now, the phone is at 10% after being unplugged in the morning at 9am. Wifi, bluetooth, GPS and mobile data were constantly on, cell signal was mostly perfect, wifi was connected for about 3h, bluetooth was always connected to my Moto 360. Screen on-time is about 2h and I listened to music using GPM for about 2h. The battery settings do not indicate any app using up too much battery power - it shows the display at 15%, cell standby at 10% and then several apps.
What do you think - a Nexus 5 with a new battery should make it through a day, shouldn't it?
I remember my first Nexus 5, back in the days with a G watch, making it through a day without any problem with 15-20% left when I plugged it in before going to bed... because of that, I start to think if there might be a bad electronics part, like the display backlight or something on the mainboard, using up too much power without being noticed by the OS. Is that possible?
Thank you very much for your advice!

Read and post in the battery life troubleshooting thread stickied to the top of this forum, it will help logically determine what is using your battery.
You have a lot running at once, so difficult at the moment to solve your issue. It's better to turn things on/off one by one to make logical conclusions whether it has any noticeable effect.
The best logical way to conclude if it is a hardware problem is to go fully sock no additional apps no root etc, see if it 'drains' by itself
If not hardware, then 99% of the time it is a bad app(s) keeping your phone awake
This is likely not the case, but have you checked the CPU settings? I've only encountered such a drain while using performance governor together with overclocking.
Same here
I have the same problem and I have been banging my head about it, I don't really use my phone for anything much else than a phone and I kept having at least 3 days of using it with no problems.
Now the phone barely lasts 2 days and even switches off in the middle of the night...

In the OP's case, his drain is likely caused by having GPS on all the time. That will absolutely devour battery life, so he could save himself some grief by turning it off until he than your phone turns off occasionally. First guess would be the power button going bad; that is generally the reason for needs it.
For you, who knows? You've not given any information, otherthat type of behavior

Yes, sorry about that I was a bit annoyed at the phone. I found and fixed the problem. Go to settings > apps > disable google fit > click yes when it gives you some notifications about how you'll lose data or stuff like that > and click force stop at the end for good measure.
I am in my second day now of battery life at 59% with a looooooooot of talking today , I mean more than usual so it is definitely a fix for me. Hope it helps
Take care gents

Again same problem
Hi all,
Unfortunately I have better battery life but I am again losing a lot of battery.
I have a screenshot but I am unable to upload it sorry about that.
I use my phone mainly for calls roughly about 15 mins per day at the most in total ( not a lot at all I know) and I also have my bluetooth on at all times cause I have LG G Watch.
thing is that I have never had problems with the battery before. When I say before back in the day I still had my LG G Watch ( I have it for about 6-7 months) . Problem with the battery started roughly around 1 month.
Location is off, wi-fi is on on very rare occasions throughout the day when I need to check my e-mail and mobile data is the same. Navigation is used only if needed.
The real problem is that before I knew what was draining my batter now I have 79% of battery usage and I have 5 apps listed that drained each 1%
Android System 1%
Phone Idle 1%
Screen 1%
Google play services 1%
Android OS 1%
Where are the other 15 % ??
It is weird I really took pride in that phone and his battery life, I know that it is mainly because I don't use it as a regular used do i.e. gaming, facebook etc, but I still want to charge less than 1 time per 2 days or less
Thanks in advance
Regards

As stated above, read and post in the battery life troubleshooting thread stickied to the top of Q&A.
They will help logically diagnose what is using your battery.

Don't worry about battery life until 2 week after !!!!

Hi everyone , I'm new in the community but I already found that this is one of the best phone forums online , normally you come here for help because you have a problem right ? But today I'm just here to give an advice, I notice that many people complain about the battery life on their new phones , I had the same issue with my note 5 , I saw a video on YouTube and the phone showed an estimation of battery usage of 18hours while mine only showed 9 , I immediately thought that my phone was broken or something until a month later I realized that I was getting more than 20 hours of battery usage , when we use a phone for the first 3-5 days ( specially android) we can't expect it to be fully optimized because it's still learning your behavior and phone usage, just by installing a new app your making your phone to "learn to do something new" when I got my s7 edge I didn't expected to have great battery life , I was constantly installing and removing apps , flashing Roms and trying themes and etc. Now after a month later I use my phone on a pretty standard routine , I used package disabled but it only made my phone laggy and slower , so I decided to use my phone on the stock way , I running all stock , ( only disabled the apps that come with the phone that I don't use like power point , Samsung gear and health...) and after I did this I noticed a huge bump on battery life , I went from 12 hour of usage and 4:30-5hours of SOT to 30hours of usage and 8hours of SOT
After installing a custom/stock rom make sure to drain the battery completely just once to calibrate it !
I can never get more than 6 hrs sot.. Gonna follow your tips and write back in a week or so. Thanks for sharing!

Feel free to use package disabler, it was a lifesaver to me with my note 5 but not on the s7 , but other users report that has been really helpful other thing you could try even that the impact will be minimal is using a dark theme ,
Also don't update to the newer firmware if on Exynos. Seems to hit battery life by 25% or more as android system goes from around 5% to 15-20% battery usage.

with newer firmware you mean the may update?
with me it was the other thing around, in the beginning it was quite good but now, its worse. is it because of the bright sunlight or the phone getting hot because it was around 30 degrees almost?
you see...screen on time about 2 hours
most active battery drainer, android itself
Only way for me to get 4 hrs of sot i have to plug in to charge and disconnect before i get to 90 cause then it seems to thing its fully charged and battery meter resets (on battery).

The thing is, I have disabled half of the system already, but it just feels like it's doing even worse than before so I'm leaning back on running stock again.
Yes original firmware much better battery than the update

It didn't work either to me , this is what I think , it may sound stupid but it could be the true cause , I think when you use an app like package disabler to disable things on your phone and then you accidentally touch to open the app or setting disabled the phone will think "what's going on here" why is this disabled? And it maybe tries to access/ open the package again and again causing it to actually drain battery !, You could a cache wipe , it worked for me , I follow all guides to extend battery life using package disabler, custom rom , flashing zips to delete bloatware but none of them worked for me , instead I went all stock ,and after installing the stock rom I did a factory reset and them the cache wipe, it worked flawless to me , the phone now works like a charm , no overheating (maybe I don't feel it because I got a case ) but the point is try to find your own solution , every s7 edge it's unic, maybe a simple reebok on your phone could resolve all of your problems , and a very important thing !!!!! If you flash a rom /kernel make sure you let your battery drain completely just once to calibrate it!
I wiped nothing, stock rom latest APD1 , aod off now but on sometimes , location on, sync on 3 emails, disabled a few things with ez package disabler. Browsed the net for all the time the screen was on, WiFi on while screen of and on for atleast 2 hrs while using line messenger and used Spotify for around 30 to 40 mins. This is sot and battery usage.
I don't know how u manage to get such bad battery life, swear u guys r fu#*ING about with sh%t too much, let it settle.

Great battery life , you can easily achieve 3 days of battery life and 8-9 hours of SOT I guess which is great for you , just consider yourself in the 5% of people that own a phone with no battery issues , I'm happy with my 8hours of SOT and I could achieve 3days like you just by using WiFi, I use LTE because it's faster were I live but remember that there are people so disappointed with their phones because they want to get the most out of their phones and just can't, may I ask if you are amazed with your battery life or do you own other device that beats the s7 on battery ?
I am amazed, it's as good as, if not better than my previous phone the z3, which was running a custom rom and kernel.
I do consider myself lucky to have the phone run so well right out the box.
Also when I said alot r fu#&ng around with their device, I meant roughly the same as you, I didn't mean to imply their problems r not actually there. I meant as u had said, changing roms, removing apps for new, disabling apps, not letting anything settle, wont give good results in battery life.

Holy smoke, 5+ hrs sot in half of battery. I've been trying to get more than 6 hrs for like a month now with different roms and optimizations, not even close..
I hate to be the voice of cynicism, but we do need to stop this stuff somewhere. The original post is utter nonsense. The suggestion that phones 'learn' your behaviour just simply isn’t how kernels work. There's a very small degree of 'learning' but power management is a very reactive process based on exactly what's happening. The only thing new apps change is what processes are running, and the kernel will instantly scale to do what it 'thinks' is right. Some managers will observe processes for a bit longer and react based on that - but we're talking hours at most, NOT days.
The only credit I'd give to this idea (which seems to be all over XDA for some reason) is that the first few days people use their new shiny phone a lot more than usual, and probably also more than they’d think. They also become far more aware of battery life and will even turn on the screen just to check battery life, which will obviously accumulate batery drain - so the bit about using your phone more is certainly true. But anything about Android being some sort of AI Neural Network app learning extraveganza that learns what you do over several days is (for the most (significant) part) wrong.
Think this is just descending into another battery thread and we have one here already

Strange battery problem!

Hi everyone!
My wife has a Mate 8 and recently she has a strange problem where her phone turns off or resets. That happens only while she is using it (seeing a whatsapp video or a gallery's photo, or even sending me a telegram. And in most cases battery level was on 90, 80, or even 50% of charge, and after reboot the battery indicates 1%.... later it turns off again (because of 1% battery) and if you turns on again, the battery level is i in 30% now... but instantly passes to 1% and turns off again.
I thought that it can be a battery problem, and a replacement could be ok... But in my country things like batteries or phone replacement parts bought on ebay may take 1-2 months until receive it... Buuuut...... if that weren't the problem?
So I would like a second opinion...
I thought too... if I root the phone and calibrate the battery... could be that a solution?
Or maybe it could be another problem instead battery (like a memory problem)? I ask this because when the phone is charging, there is no problem. And the first time after I disconnected the charger (which casually is a few minutes after I turn on) there is no problem too.
After the last reboot, when I see the battery graphic in Phone Manager, in the hyper-drainage part it says that Chrome app drain 6mAh (while the other apps drain 1mah)... But the other day it shown the same with Facebook app (which I uninstalled after).
She has:
NXT-L09 C605B585(Android 7)
Thanks very much!
PD: and its impossible take it to warranty support, cause she broken the screen last year and I replaced it So warranty is broken.
PD2: sorry for my bad english
I have also had problems with the battery and replaced the old one with a new one. You can find howto-videos on YouTube. Rooting the phone and recalibrate the battery will most likely not work. Your description of the battery's weird behaviour just sounds like it is broken.
yup..look like the problem with your phone battery man..it's time to change a new battery dude..even mine already changed..same as your problem..
i was in the same doubt you have, what if,what if, and tried a lot of different things, none of them worked, the only one option i had left was to change the battery.i did it and now it works better than new.replace the battery and your problem will be gone.i have seen a ton of people with this phone with the same problem,it looks like the first edition of the battery released with the phone had serious issues.mine didnt even got to 4 months old before it got broken.

Can you please share the link from where you bought your original battery
Thanks
Hi.
Finally I bought a new battery and the problem was solved.
In my case, I distrusted a little with the "original batteries" around in the ebay market, so bought a brand that I know that its a good brand and to make sure I will not have problems in the future: Cameron Sino. I recommend it.
Regards!
PS: Thank a lot for the help!

Battery draining insanely fast

Hi
All of a sudden my battery started draining rapidly. See the attached screenshots for ref. I thought maybe it was a software bug since it started happening 2 days ago. I tried booting into the safe mode and the fast drain didn't stop. I also did hard reset with same result. At this point I'm thinking about getting new battery. Just wanna see if xda community has any tips if maybe I've missed something. It's just strange that this sudden degradation happened overnight.
Obviously, that draining is not normal.
In the upper left corner there is a warning that some app is running in background.
When you did the hard reset also you did a restore from some backup? Is the device warm/hot?
Sometimes it shows carrier utility or people apps running in the background. I restored from Google backup (forgot to mention in the OP). Device isn't hot at all.
i stared clean with LeeDroid ROM (had original Sprint ROM on) after wiping the data and the fast battery drain remains. at this point i'm going to replace the batter since it's not a software issue.
I'd definitely say your battery has shat itself. I'd also try something like gsam or battery info in *#*#4636#*#* to see the health of your battery. I'd be interested to know if it reports it as "good" health
It's strange but the standby seems to be better now whereas it was going fast before. Thought maybe it 'fixed' itself, however during a phone call (4min) I lost %3. That's definitely not normal 4636 is not showing any battery info. Can't find anything in gsam showing health status of the battery. Is it in pro?
If the battery drains fast during calls can be due to poor/weak network reception (the modem tries to maintain the best quality and scans the network over and over).
3 sot with 50% (or little more) battery left is a good value, in my opinion.
Oh, when recoveries are made due to some problem is better to not restore from backups. In that backup can be the app or setting that is causing the problem.
Anyway, with the last google play services (14.7.99) I also have noticed a bit more drain during standby.
Sounds like you need to replace it

I have about the same issue. The battery is draining too fast and it's very noticeable when idle, even when idle in safe mode + airplane mode it loose 20% during an 7 to 8h night. I tried all htc nougat and oreo official and unofficial roms and nothing fixed the problem.
I also used the htc diagnostic tool to determine whether my battery is "good" or not and..... according to the diagnostic tool it is "good". Notice that according to diagnostic tool the battery is defective only if it goes from 100 to less than 75% during the test. Mine goes from 100 to 93 during the test which consists in showing a kind of dark grey screen at full brightness during 1 hour.
Even with a battery rated as good I decided to sent my device for repair because it was not good.
I received the device back and it has not been repaired because it passes the diagnosric tool test. test.
So i'll replace the battery myself as soon as i'll receive my new battery.
I suggest you to run the diagnostic tool test and if you get a decrease from 100 to less than 75, they should repair it under warranty, if not, suggest you to replace the battery yourself or pay somebody to do it for you.

I already ordered the battery and will do the replacement myself if the wait times are similar to those of screen replacements. Plus everything points to a bad battery so another test with official app is pointless. Sounds like we both will be doing the swap ourselves.
So I put new battery in and the drain seems slower than before and the charging is not erratic (jumping). When I was removing back cover the black layer came off so I figured it'd be good time to try clear cover mod . I like the look but unsure if anything will interfere with the radios and such due to the missing protection.
