Hi.
Weird problem, everything is working fine, even the touch, but the screen is black, no display and no backlight.
Software or hardware, what do you think?

Have you changed anything in the software?
If not it definitley sounds like hardware, try booting into recovery to see if screen lights up. If not it definitley sounds like it's the screen at fault.
No software changes. Original firmware and all. My wife doesn't trust roms. Haha got bricked anyway.
So, does it worth opening the device and looking for something loose or just replace the screen?
Any other hardware inside can cause that failure.
Please be reminded that the touch input works great, i hear the sound response of unlocking and everything...

Problem resolved.
Opened the device, pressed on the connectors, worked like a charm.

Are you rooted? Custom ROM? How many background apps were running at time? I have had it go blank on me but it is always looking at Facebook pics....needs update....anyway..but never unresponsive. On that note let me update my sig so everyone will know my specs.
I have heard of people complaining about this when there phone is plugged in but not otherwise maybe a bug? Or defective

Mine is stock but rooted. Not a big deal, can get it back to work by turning off the screen and turn it back on

I don't have your problem. but i did missed two calls due to the issue i mentioned
hoping ATT will release an update, or the AOSP will be perfect soon.
Hello,
my Backbutton activates itself. While I am watching Videos, or whatever I do it stops shining and I am out of every application I'm using. After about half a minute it's shining again and I can use it normally. It's like pushing the button multiple times. Does anyone has an idea how to fix it? I tried different roms but it looks like an hardware failure to me.

Happened to me as well it is an issue sometimes with samsung but covered under warranty bring it in to sprint
Hit the thanks button if i helped
Sending it back for support is not an option for me. I imported my device from the US to Germany. The support at Samsung Germany told me that they are not responsible for AMOLED devices.
My second problem ist that my IMEI is crashed since I flashed a rom where the dev made a little mistake. So Samsung won't give me any support.
I thought about changing the display but the price for a new one is about 190 Euro. Way too much... I can assemble and disassemble the device but I think that cleaning the device will not solve the problem.
Any suggestions?

It has nothing to do with the display though.
That's likely the part failing:

http://stellatech.com/samsung-gt-i9020-nexus-s-ui-flex,a,en,810423.html
Verify that the one you currently have isn't simply not connected right.
Thank you. I will have a look if the part is not right connected.
Maybe I have to replace it. But in that case 25 Euro are much cheaper than 190.

This happened to me once. A day later my display completely died. I could turn on my phone, answer calls, etc the touchscreen worked, but I couldnt see anything. I had to get a new one..
I had this problem too.
I flashed a different radio, and boom!! issue resolved
I occasionally get this too. It only comes up when I'm using cm/cm based kernels though, very odd. I'm on matrix right now and it seems to Beowulf, anybody have some tips or suggestions?

I tried a different kernel and it looks like the problem is solved. I know that you should not count your chickens before they are hatched. But I really think that the kernel was the problem.
Anyway, I am just happy that my phone is working properly.
And now I am waiting for jellybean.

What kernel were you using?
It was not the Kernel!
Changing the radio solved the problem.

It's Alive!
I don't see how the kernel would have anything to do with the backbutton. Although if it worked out then hey that's awesome. Amazing how much I have learned by reading the forums on this site.:victory:
Just clean off the the backbutton, and maybe it will stop or you have a software bug.
My phone keeps freezing and the screen does not respond to touches until I turn the phone in standby and back on. The camera app always freezes too, usually when it's on low battery. Also the touch screen sometimes messes up. I touch the screen and it still thinks my finger is touching the screen when it's not, so the screen gets stuck.
I'm sending it in for repair, because I have problems with the power button, which completely died on me. Is there anything I can do to fix the touch screen issues? Or should I just throw the phone out. I'm tired of all the problems it's giving me.
Thanks

My gf is having the same trouble with her atrix. Seems to be a common issue on this phone, caused by a dyingdigitizer.

Is there a app that doesn't lock the screen when the display turns off, I find it a bit annoying on android to turn on the phone, on symbian I just had to press any key to turn on the display without unlocking it, and lock it only using the lock key.
I prefer a app like LG G2's Knock On.

theres a kernel here what does what you want ,well i think it does
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2565299
I don't want to upgrade to a CFW now. I prefer enjoying rhe phone on stock than to deal with minor hindrances which ruin the experience on a CFW, like the camera bug mentioned in the thread you quoted to.

You're out of luck then unfortunately, custom kernel is the only thing that offers it right now.

Such a basic thing that symbian had but android doesn't, I am disappointed with Google.

Just go to settings and set lock screen to none.

Thanks for the apps but with both the apps the phone gets locked after the screen turns off, I wanted a app that turns off the autolock of phone and just turns off the screen to save power. So I can press any key on the phone to see the screen without unlocking it each time.

I can press any key except the volume rockers which leaves the obvious power button and the home button will turn my screen on and with no lock screen it does what you want it to.

i have seen touch issues come from screen protectors, especially the tempered glass ones, when there not made properly.
other than that, considering its happening on multiple roms, i would lean towards a hardware issue.

I want to ask you something.
Do you use your smartphone during charging.
Or play games which need to tap a specific point on screen mant times a min.
These can also cause the problem.
I too hve that problem. I went to service center and got my screen changed and now its working fine.
