[I9506][OFFICIAL][5.0.1] Lollipop build I9506XXUDOA6 out! - Galaxy S 4 General

Hey mate
Just want to let you know that the new firmware is out for LTE-A version of the galaxy s4 (GT-I9506).
Instruction:
0. If you like, make a backup of your current rom or wipe everything to make a clean install (depends on you)
1. Download latest version from here: Sammobile
2. Extract the file
3. Reboot to download mode (volume down and power together)
4. Make sure all samsung drivers installed
5. Connect phone to pc
6. Download odin3.09
7. Click AP and select the tar.md5 file
8. Let all settings as they are!
9. Hit start and wait
This wont void your warranty because it is an official update! Knox stays 0x0!

Would it be safe to flash this ROM onto the i9505 which I have?

I don't think so

I9506 = Snapdragon 800
I9505 = Snapdragon 600

Just did a Google search and saw the same. However, processor is from the same family, only frequency is higher. Maybe better to wait for the real thing. Should come perhaps next week already? LJ [emoji106]

You have the same devices as me
S4 LTE-A was always updated after official S4. So I think this is the last test before actually release it for the international version. So it will be here soon!

Pretty good news!
Did anyone try it?
Does old root method work?
I`m downloading now and will make mirror soon.

Tried the Slovakian version.......and man I'm in love with what Sammy did......drastic changes over the KitKat version, Wifi works, battery life remains the same which i used to get on stock KK......overall the bloatware is really trimmed down
Now just trying to root it......I'm trying to use the guides which users posted for rooting GS5 on Lollipop, hope the similar method works.......fingers crossed
Sent from my GT-I9506 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app

Please port to Note 2

Kernel
I flashed it everything works well. The only thing i dislike is that i find it sometimes not responsive. In the past I had installed Cyanogenmod 12 lollipop and found it more reactive. The only thing that makes me stay on official samsung release is the camera app
that I find good and cant install it on cyanogenmod because of touchwiz needed for it to work.
Is it possible to flash another kernel on it ? I Know Arter97 kernels but it do not support i9506 for the moment.

Of course Not! Different Hardware (S600 vs. S800).

Google said SD permissions will be fixed in L. Quickpic and ES file explorer still require constand root directory directions and its annoying. Fixing the permissions like in KK seems to have fixed the problem.

thanks

The kernel for e300k is also working well. Using ROW.. very nice addition. Have not played with voltages yet. Looking forward to getting some extra time out of the battery.

I have played a little with voltage settings. Reduce mpu by 50. So far stable but no improvement in battery life. Will drain the battery and nd charge it full. Then I will test again

My highest processor times are 250 & 600 which I've lowered by 25.
What are you using to adjust the voltages? Does it have settings for both big and little? I'm using System Tuner Pro and I have also tried setCPU. Neither have separate settings for the two clusters.
I'm going to suggest stweaks to the developer although it looks from his git commits he is using Perseus or Adam as a road map so maybe he has it on his to do list.

Tried the new kernel with the tethering test. The problem that it is having is that it is not calling on IWConfig or IW to watch the WiFi and create an ad-hoc. Other than that, the kernel is great bro. To me it actually runs better than DiaDust's main version. Keep up the great work.
Someone should also start working on E300L/S variants..
I have tried KoXDA ROM on my 300S. Works good
If somebody wants to - I puted it to FF because is difficult to download it from Korean pages.

AllShareCast/ScreenMirror fix for custom ROMs (I9500, I9505, I9506, E330, N9005)

This fix is for those who like to use AllShareCast/ScreenMirrorwhile on custom ROM (i.e. custom flag is set).
Disclamer: You apply the fix at your own risk. I'm not responsible for any software or hardware damage it can lead. The only thing i can assure is that i've tested fix on my I9500 and I9506 devices and they work fine.
Disclamer 2: I don't provide any technical support for my fixes through PM. So, please don't write PM about porting it to other ROM versions or other devices. I share what i'm doing for myself and have no intention to port it to devices i don't have.
This fix is not really fixes the problem, but turns off HDCP protection. So, the video signal will go to HDMI in clear(unprotected) form. As a side effect, this fix also will be useful for those, who has non-HDCP TV and thus cannot use Screen Mirror function.
I've made versions for 3 different SoCs, thus it should be compatible with almost full range of Samsung top devices:
Exynos 5410 for GT-I9500 Android 4.3 ROM MJ8
Snapdragon 600 for GT-I9505 Android 4.3 ROM MK8
Snapdragon 800 for GT-I9506(SHV-E330S/K/T) Android 4.3 ML5, SM-N9005 (and other SD800 versions of Note 3)
To install the fix, your device should be rooted!
You need to use file explorer which is able to write to /system partition. I recommend to use Root Explorer.
1) Open /system partition with write access ("mount R/W" button in Root Explorer)
2) Unpack following archive to specified folder:
for Android v4.3:
for Exynos 5410: unpack hdcpoff_5410.zip to /system/lib
for Snapdragon 600: unpack hdcpoff_sd600.zip to /system/lib
for Snapdragon 800: unpack hdcpoff_sd800.zip to /system/vendor/lib
for Android v4.4.2:
for Exynos 5410: unpack hdcpoff_5410_4.4.2.zip to /system/lib
for Snapdragon 600: unpack hdcpoff_sd600_4.4.2.zip to /system/lib
for Snapdragon 800: unpack hdcpoff_sd800_4.4.2.zip to /system/lib (not really required. HDCP should work fine on custom ROMS 4.4.2)
3) reboot your device.
That's all!
I didn't test my fix neither on I9505 nor N9005, but in theory it should work.
Update (30/Aug/2014):
I've added Android 4.4.2 HDCP OFF version for I9500 (I9500XXUGNG3), for I9505 (I9505XXUGNG8). It should work on any 4.4.2 ROM.
About Snapdragon 800 version (i9506, E330S, Note 3 Qualcomm version): it's funny, but my E330S (with old 4.2.2 bootloader and I9506 4.4.2 system) works without any fix. It uses HDCP although my kernel and system are custom with a lot of bloatware (including KNOX) removed. It works with both Samsung AllShareCast and Netgear PTV3000.
I've uploaded patched lib for SD800 (I9506XXUCNG3) for any case (unpack to /system/lib).
Update 2:
added N9005 4.4.2 version. You can try it on other N900x models as well (SD800 only!).
For Galaxy S5 (SM-G900 not sure Exynos or Qualcomm) look here (not tested by me)
For generic Exynos solution look here (not tested by me)
P.S.: If you are skilled enough, then you can port this fix to other version of ROM. Quick hint: Disassemble my fix and original file in IDA Pro, then compare listing to find the difference. And then, using some keywords near modified part, you can locate required places in the new version.
Generally, the versions I provide should work in any ROM within the same Android version.
Thank you

I've tracked down most of the original files you patched and I'll post them in a sec.
@JoshBeach file below contains the original which you can use to compare
And here's a rough guide on how to get it done: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=48418925
The original libs that match the patched libs from the OP are attached to this post for comparison and porting purposes
Will update when I track down the snapdragon 600 lib
EDIT: Snapdragon 600 added

Tab 4 10.1 lollipop screenshots (In Depth please)

Can every tab 4 10.1 user put lollipop screenshots and experiences please
yeah id like to see it as well nice thread op
tab4, 5.0.2
I like the update, its faster and i get more out of the battery.
yesterday the first day on lollipop out of a full day social media, multi window 40% on the time and chromecasting i got 6:30 screen on time. i have had no problems so far, on the first boot i had a few times that apps stopt working for no reason, after rebooting there were no more troubles. So far i did not play games, today im gone play all my games and see how the battery&cpu handels it, on 4.4 i had the problem that my tab4 got hot(cpu) and started lagging.
so far so good, the tab works faster and its a joy to works with, no more lagg like 4.4 for me its a difference and the screen reacts better/faster.
Im going to add a pic from my score on antutu.
I'd like to see a video from lollipop on tab 4 10.1.

This is screeny of my newly updated (today) 5.0.2 tab 4 10.1 - wondering if anyone can tell me why or what that white "my files" icon in the lower left is ? I can't remove it though and it's ticking me off -
here's another screeny - and I actually used the palm swipe gesture to take the shot - so far one of my favorite additions to lollipop -

I already got my kernel sorted, debloated, rooted, and baptised by coffee ! xD
Seriously though this rom runs nicely. I'm still hunting down battery/power saving commits rather than apps.
The browser layout is alot more clumsy-thumbs friendly :good:
Audio still needs an available/find-able toggle for SW encode/decode so i use MXPlayer.

R,
hi for me yes, for everyone else no, BUT, this is my standing corrected source for the sm-t530nu
https://github.com/moonbutt74/kernel_samsung_SM-T530_EUR_LL/tree/dirty-bitz
compile with gcc.4.8 , uber or linaro or vanilla, shouldn't matter too much
edit the go script for CROSS_COMPILE= and STRIP= to your correct toolchain path
to compile my current defconfig
or edit reset script for the same for a "stock" compile, the default defconfig and variant defconfig may need to be edited
compile will output to build directory
from there use AIK to unpack a copy of the stock boot.img and replace kernel binary and dt.img then repack
don't forget modules!
you can re-purpose one of my kernel packages for packaging you own build.

Wipe/Clear data/cache function is not working in TWRP 3.0.2.1 and higher!!!
2. download desired NIGHTLY and GAPPS via link from above
3. put files on your SD-card and enter recovery mode via 3 button-combo or extended menu
3. wipe data/cache/dalvik, format system
4. flash Nightly
5. flash GAPPS (if Aroma is faster than 10 seconds, flash again. Aroma full installer aborts atm)
6. wipe cache/dalvik again (optional)
7. restart and have fun with your NIGHTLY
Note: This is not a development thread. All credits are on CM and Xposed devs
Okay guys,
here's my report for the nightly from 10th of August.
As I can say, everything is working soft and properly except of some small issues:
- multi-user-profiles are not adjustable
When I try to set a picture or change the account name a toast-message with "contact does not exist" appears. Profiles are shown as "Owner", "New User" and "Guest".
- when in 2nd user-account sometimes new installed apps are force closed
First time I noticed this, was when installing the new user-account, google framework had a fc, but afterwards everything worked great.
Second fc was on installation of SwiftKey Keyboard. To use it, I had to switch back to "owner", then the Keyboard is shown in the options
- Bluetooth music play on my car is stuttering, when phone is in use, f. e. when radar control app is in background. BT phone was fine in my car, but I read about other users, who had the same issues with their headsets.
Thats all so far.
I hope we can start a little discussion on your experiences and faced problems.
It will be great if someone can find an official way to report issues directly to the builders of this ROM.
However, the progress of development of this ROM is remarkable!

As you can read here its a known issue that is related on missing drivers for the button sensor. So waiting is the only option that us non-developing-skills-blessed-users will have.

Thanks, Nice Rom. Working fine except that video cam features missing, sometimes reboot itself. Overall excellent working, worth daily use

Yes you're right.
The CM Camera is stripped down to the bones very much. Just use third-party-apps like open camera or original google camera instead to more features. There's another project called Camera Next which is a port from the OnePlusOne. You'll find it on XDA.
Sadly, they all are not as capable as the Samsung Cam, but for a quickshot, they're fine.
THX for your report.
Anyone know how to get separate icon in status bar when using mobile data like the 4G and H+ icons?

What do you mean with separate icons? Do you think about data traffic arrows? My icons are changing from H, H+ to LTE as they should.

Yes, but as you can see I only see the arrows and not the LTE indicator, I think may be its because my sim is on roaming.

Hi, Thanks for the Rom. It works great. I am just facing one issue.
I had Philz touch recovery and after I installed this rom, its seems like the phone isnt rooted anymore. I tried updating the recovery to latest TWRP and it didnt work and also to CM recovery, that also didnt work. Any suggestions to get the root back?
Thanks,
Lalit

Hi,
first have a look in developer settings and switch on systemwide root access. Sometimes it get lost when flashing a new recovery. I use the TWRP 2.8.6.0 recovery. It is not buildt for the S5 duos, but it works perfect. With this recovery I never lost root access by flashing a new ROM.
BTW, CM provides a custom recovery since the Nightly 13th of August. Anyone tried this?
Please report back.

Facing the same issue but its not this massive. just my opinion. If you like testing to get Xposed working for our Duos variant with CM 12.1 u r able to set new volume specs with V4A.
Pls report back.
...but as seen, getting Xposed working is easy, Viper 4 Android is not!
Another bug, Bluetooth disconnected and connected for few seconds randomly and shutter while audio playing. Any temporary fix please. Thanks.*

Android 5.1 vs 6 for S6: Recommend stay or update?

Hi all,
Would just like to know what your opinions are on either staying on Lollipop (for the moment) or upgrading to Marshmallow for S6-920F. I have purchased a brand new one recently on a sale and see it's loaded with 5.1.1
Bear in mind I'm gonna be custom modding and specifically need things like Xposed, Viper4Android, etc. I'm not sure how far S6 development for Marshmallow is regarding rooting, custom modding, etc., so I can wait for M development to get better.
Please spare me your thoughts for my pennies.
Regards!
:fingers-crossed:
I'm using M since the first beta with Xposed and other mods, it is better than L
I got one on thursday and update it right away , so happy about it this phone is a beast. Seems like a 2016 flagship.

1. The S7 still have 4K video recording.
2. It's not all about pixels , a 12mp camera can be better than a 21 camera.

Thanks for the feedback fellows!
All things considered, I think I'll hang around 5.1.1 until I get fed up. This is a great phone & looking forward to the next 2 years with it! :highfive:
I don't understand why you wouldn't update to Marshmallow.

What's the best, relatively bug-free Touchwiz-based ROM for Android M regarding S6? Don't mind Note 5/S7 improvements on it.
If it comes pre-loaded with Viper4Android & Xposed and is stable I would definitely just go there straight.

I updated my Galaxy S6 to Marshmallow, everything seems smooth so far, until when I notice that my OTG stick does not work with my S6 anymore, bummer... another samsung software bug...

I think I found the solution, I noticed that my S6 running marshmallow, when I plug my otg to the phone, I accidentally made the ES File Explorer the default, I can't access the OTG via Samsung's default File Manager. So I went to Applications, go to ES File Explorer, clear defaults... plug my OTG Again, this time don't choose ES File Explorer, if it pops out, cancel it. Then the Samsung's File Manager will now recognize the OTG, and boom, I can now use my OTG properly via Samsung's File Manager...
Adoption rate for Android M is 4.6% of the total market currently while L is at 35.8%. That's quite a big margin.
Doesn't hurt to wait until M matures like a fine old wine...

M is running well and brings allot of improvements for the S6. It is definitively recommended to update! Even more recommended is going to XtreStoLite DeoMod Edition 3.2 ROM (stock kernel, stock settings), there you get a butter smooth experience all over the place with no issues whatsoever.
I have this itch to update my 920I to MM but I have two questions.
1. How is xposed running in MM. Are most of the modules compatible with MM?
2. There are reports of root issues more so with Tasker. For me, Tasker is very important.
Any pointers on these two issues will be helpful.

Exactly why I'm hesitant too! Once you on M then there's no turning back. And if you find out something's not yet working 100% like it did on a previous version then you have to wait.
For all that waiting one might as well have stayed on the older version. This was my experience with Lollipop so far...
