Hey guys,
I recently updated my Moto G dual sim version to lollipop with OTA update. As it has Wifi issues and looks half cooked I want to revert back to Kitkat without unlocking bootloader. Is it possible? If yes please share the flashable zip for stock recovery. I have searched all over the forum but all I get is the procedure for rooted or bootloader unlocked phones.
Thanks in advance.

Currently there is no custom recovery for XT1033 on lollipop nor are there any signed flash able zips. Just download the Asian 4.4.4 firmware and while flashing it using mfastboot, skip the gpt.bin and motoboot.img .
This process you mentioned does not require unlocking bootloader??

Dear pfufle,
I too want to downgrade my Moto G from 5.0.2 to 4.4.4. Could you please explain the steps to flash using mfastboot. I tried the steps from the link " http://forum.xda-developers.com/mot...lollipop-5-0-x-to-t3004836/page7#post58878241 ", But after completing the steps, phone is getting restart with Lollipop only. No 4.4.4 OS is running. Could you please help me to flash 4.4.4 successfully?

Did you unlock the bootloader first??
I guess the process mentioned requires bootloader unlocked.

Here, this thread will guide you. It works perfectly. I have tried it my self.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-g/general/how-to-revert-5-0-1-gpe-to-4-4-4-5-0-5-t2988565
It's not possible to downgrade the OS with a locked bootloader. If you're having problems you can try doing a factory reset and see if that fixes your issues. Remember that if you do a factory reset, make sure you backup your data as it will most likely be deleted. If you do decide to unlock your bootloader make a backup because your phone will be wiped clean; required for bootloader unlock. Downgrading from Lollipop to Kitkat will have one minor annoyance; screen rippling up the screen. You can fix that by turning the screen off and on to remedy the problem. AND most importantly don't flash the kitkat bootloader as it will brick your phone. Good luck on what you decide on doing!

No, you need to use fastboot mode to install stock firmware. it will wipe everything from the device. then you can install custom recovery and root. then back it up in the recovery. that is the only way.

yes you can revert back, because I have done it many times.
if your bootloader is updated to the latest version, you can still go back to 4.4.2 even if the bootloader is from 4.4.4.
you just have to skip this step
Code:
fastboot flash motoboot motoboot.img

Of course I am sure. I done this myself. I am back to Moto stock firmware. I tried GPE but HDR mode was missing in the camera app.
and no Audio Effects (DSP Manager). But it is possible to go back to 4.4.2 from 4.4.4 but you have to skip the motoboot image file. that is the bootloader. you cant downgrade the bootloader.

I have XT1032 and you can go back to stock 4.4.2 for XT1033, because XT1033 has 4.4.4 update as well.
Why are you running GPE for XT1033 in the first place?
I have converted from GPE to Stock Motorola firmware and had no issues with partition. so obviously you are doing something wrong.
Hello. This thread is mainly for questioning/research/knowledge, as I don't have any major issue with my phone right now. I had retail ar firmware 4.4.4 with locked LB, converted to 4.4.4 Retail BR, tried to install the ota, it didn't (because locked bl) and when I tried to go back to retail AR i bricked (downgraded for boot) and I couldn't flash it properly due to preflash validation error (locked bl) so I unlocked BL and now everything works fine, and I sucessfully installed the XT1033 OTA on my XT1032, runs pretty good.
I've been reading on the incompatibility between bootloaders of 4.4 and 5.0.
For now I will wait to official update for XT1032 and flash that, but couldn't you just use the reflash bootloader tool that is around this forum and flash a 4.4.4 bootloader and all the stock firmware files? In case I for some reason wanna go back for 4.4.4.
If you install 5.0 on a 4.4 bootloader using cwm, does it work correctly? If it does, why do they update the bootloader in the first place?
Is there any working custom recovery for L? or in development? In case In the future when the OTA gets released I wanted to flash viper4audio (I'm priving myself of that beauty that I used on old phones just for the locked BL [warranty brah] but obviously not a problem now..) or I could just root and use one of those zip flashing apps? (I cant remember its name)
Thanks.

you mean the hard brick when your pc only detects it as qcom-something? that's bad for you
I only softbricked mine luckily, but I'll let you know anyway I felt damn stupid when I couldn't boot my phone because of my sudden impatience after waiting months from this update, just because didn't wait a little more
iirc there are some methods on the forum I think using that tool I mentioned to get it back, good luck with that

I suggest you not to downgrade to 4.4.4 as of now. you flashed OTA and you are in lollipop now.. Enjoy.... And wait for official release OTA for Xt1032 and firmware files. Once it released, Devs will surely create flashable zips... then you can reflash your version lollipop... People reporting bricks and many dspaly issue when they tried downgrading it..

because i dont have image file 4.4.4 . only file 4.4.3 on my pc
Hi all,
When I install a custom recovery, it(recovery) won't boot up because of CF auto root. I don't know why, it just doesn't work anymore. I've got the same problem on my Nexus 7 2013. But on the Moto G, this is harder to fix because the 5.0.1 GPE image for Moto G is not available yet. (You can only get 5.0.1 GPE using an OTA link)
I would like like to have 5.0.1 GPE with working TWRP recovery and root acces.
To achieve that goal, I'll need to do some tricky steps I guess.. Which I don't like to take.
The plan is to downgrade from 5.0.1 GPE to 4.4.4 GPE. There's no image of 5.0.1 yet, so this is the only way of getting a clean install (I guess.... please correct me if I'm wrong). Now there is this problem of Motorola phones which don't allow you to downgrade your bootloader.
4.4.4 GPE image does contain an older bootloader...
Now I found this tutorial: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2542219
It says: '"Downgrading:
The 1st command "mfastboot flash partition gpt.bin" will fail on 4.4.2 to 4.3 downgrade. Skip this command if you are downgrading and continue with the other commands, which should work."
I need to know if it's going to work for 5.0.1 to 4.4.4 downgrade.
After I have a clean install of GPE 5.0.1 I'll flash TWRP recovery and ultimately I'll flash the newest supersu.zip via TWRP recovery.
Can anyone tell me if the way I want to downgrade is safe? Or do you have other suggestions?
Please let me know.
Thanks in advance!
Best regards,
Daniel

Guys help me Ibricked my moto g .Here is what i did
I have a XT1033 on stock lollipop with unlocked bootloader. So i first flashed cwm using fastboot, booted fine in recovery and back to system.
Then i again entered fastboot mode and flashed TWRP 2.8.5 for XT1032(There was no specific for xt1033). Booted fine into recovery , took a backup of entire rom .It was fine till now. Then when i booted into system the phone was stuck at boot logo. It kept on restarting again and again and when i entered fastboot mode to enter into recovery the recovery partition was also corrupted and it was stuck at teamwin logo.
but the bad things didnt end here. When i flashed stock firmware using fastboot the system sparsechunk files falshed with an error "FILE IS TOO LARGE". I tried both 4.4.4 and 5.0.2 but its still stuck at bootlogo.
PLEASE HELP ME DEVS

2.Don't update the gpe to 4.4.4 or ur device will hardbrick(don't cry afterwards)
3.flash asian 5.0.2 firmware from fastboot
