App not installed - ONE Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

This has been annoying me for awhile now. I am running SlimSaber (5.0.2) and I have not been able to install any APKs by opening them directly. It worked fine before, but now every time I try to open an APK file to install, I get "app not installed" instantly.

Probably Dalvik/ ART cache conflict? Try clear Dalvik / ART cache and try install it again?

Nope, that didn't help. I can't even restore apps with Titanium Backup now, but I can still install from the Play store.

Do you have the install from unknown sources thing enabled? That would be under settings and then security I think.

Yes, it is enabled. Everything worked fine after a fresh install, but the problem returns and I don't know why.

[Q] Pushing apks to system

Hi guys,
I am trying to install the Asus PadFone clock apk, which requires being in system apps.
I pushed it to system/apps and set permissions to rw/r/r and rebooted- nothing happened
I tried wiping cache and dalvik cache but still nothing.
I used root explorer to push it
Any suggestions?
EDIT:
Never mind, I solved the problem. It turns out the APKs I was pushing needed to be de-odexed before I could use them.

After the file is in /system/app/ and you set permissions, install it manually from there then reboot.

Are you running Stock? If you are then you won't be able to install a system app like that. Happened to me, and trust me it really sucks. Only other real solution I found was to flash a custom ROM for example CM 10. You could also try getting a flashable zip file for the apk and try installing it that way. That could work.
Let me know how it all works out for you,

Hey have you tried using Titanium Backup from the Play Store? You can manually install apps with it. I would post a link but the forum doesn't let me

I have it installed, however I have no idea how you manually install an app with it.
Should I try to make it into a flashable zip?

[Q] [Team Canjica] OmniROM 4.3 missing Play Store and Google account

I have updated stock Android 4.1.2 on Samsung Galaxy S Advance to Team Canjica OmniROM 4.3 (omni-4.3.1-20131218-janice-HOMEMADE.zip). Everything finished successfully. But when I restarted my device I can not see a Play Store app and in system settings in accounts there is no account type of Google. So I can not sign in and use my device. I also tried to install (omni-4.3.1-20131208-janice-HOMEMADE.zip) but it ends the same.
Please help me. Or maybe I am missing something and I should add my Google account somewhere else. I also tried to add it as exchanged account, but it can not connect to server.
Warning: No file_contexts
I am also getting following message during flash:
Warning: No file_contexts
but flash progress bar is still moving and when it has finished I can reboot to system but Play store app is missing
Second atempt
I tried one more time. I have restored stock Android 4.1.2 by download mode, then rooted and then installed again update with custom ROM, but still get the same warning and Play store and Google account is missing

Did you install Gapps (for Android 4,3)? And did you do a factory reset / wipe data, cache and dalvik cache?

Yes I have followed the instruction.
I have done a factory reset / wipe data, cache and dalvik cach.
Then installed OmniROM and Gapps.
After rebooting system I am missing Play store and Google account.
I have also rebooted to recovery mode and made once again a factory reset / wipe data, cache and dalvik cache, but it also did not help.
No I realized that even I have installed in recovery mode: Gapps it was also missing after rebooting to system.

Sounds like you forgot to download and flash the appropriate GApps package for your new ROM. Carefully re read the OP of that ROM thread and find the link for downloading GApps. GApps are the Google App packages for AOSP based ROMS. Those packages usually include the Playstore and other Google Apps.

Sounds like your Gapps package isn't fully installing. I would try installing the ROM, boot into the ROM and let it settle. Then reboot to recovery and install Gapps.

I will try to install Gapps after first reboot.
Can you confirm that this is correct Gapps file I should install?
goo.im/gapps/gapps-jb-20130813-signed.zip
Previously when I tried to install Gapps there was displayed success message,
but after installing ROM there was only message: Warning: No file_contexts
but as far as I found on forum I should ignore this message.
But it was strange that there was no success message after installing ROM even if install progress was still moving when this warning was displayed.

That is the correct Gapps package for most 4.3 Roms. As I am not familiar with your ROM, I would double check the OP to make sure that is the package you should be using.

I use the same ROM with the same Gapps file. It works fine for me.
I have had the same problem when I had forgotten to wipe the dalvik cache after installing a new ROM, but if you have already done that (and again), I don't know what else to suggest (apart from retrying everything from scratch).

[Q] Play Store Error on Lollipop

I'm running DH's Lollipop ROM and the Play store has been giving me -505 errors when I try to install certain applications. It is not during the download period, just when the app attempts to install itself. This happens with APKs as well. Is it an issue of Lollipop compatibility? I'm trying to download Chronus in particular.

Make sure that you did a clean install of the rom. If you were in TWRP there is a advanced wiping tab. Try wiping internal data (that does not wipe external sd card). This is probably a fix. If using some other recovery it should come with a similar feature. Hope this helped

Thanks, I tried that but still no luck so I just restored a nandroid. I've been digging around the N5 forums because they've had Lollipop for a while and it looks like it's a common thing with 5.0.

I had the same issue. Just curious, but did you try and use Titanium Backup at all? I did, and it failed. Must have broke something. A clean flash did the trick for me.
I had the same issue but only with apps that I attempted to restore with Titanium. I had to do a full data wipe and reflash to be able to install those apps again.

Yea I did and it just hangs up on that restore until I FC the app and deselect from restore. With the ROM I'm using Chronus (for example) is an optionally app to be installed and it installs that way but isn't the most up to date version and the update from the Play Store doesn't install either. Weird issues for sure.

Clean flash Lollipop and DO NOT use TiBu. It must not be fully working on 5.9 yet. I had the exact same thing happen. Just let Google restore your apps.

I have flashed the ROM and love it except this issue that I am also experiencing. I also have TiBu but did not use it for the app restore. Rather I used Google Play and it failed to install Any.do. I have tried manually and read extensively online and the problem appears to be related to Adobe air not being Lollipop compatible. I finally email Anydo and they are aware of the issue and are providing me with a link to their upcoming lollipop beta. My point is I don't believe reflashing, re-restoring, or rummaging around in the data/data folder will fix the 505 error.

After reading further I decided to uninstall ALL Task apps, which included Chaos-Control. I was then able to install Any.DO. It was a permission issue and it conflicted with Chaos-Control. Lollipop is confusing app permissions. Find the like app, uninstall, and then install the app you want. That worked for me.

[Q] Bad battery life (AK Kernel) CM12s

So, I decided to flash the AK Kernel to fix the ghost swipe issue and the slow keyboard etc. It worked, but now the battery life is fairly bad, I'm getting around 10-12 hours and I'm at work for 8 of those hours so it doesn't get used. Google Play wake-up services are off etc. Just wondering if there's a remedy for this?

You have to provide more information like screen on time, graphs etc.
Edit: You are running old AK kernel, version update to the latest to fix the drain.

Can you link me to it? I'll put a graph up later after I finish work.
Google play related wakelocks are more Rom related anyways.
Yeah. I was just saying that for process of elimination incase someone suggested it. I'm in work at the moment. If someone could link me to the newer kernel version. That'd be wicked. If not, not to worry. I'll have a quick look when I'm home.

Thanks for the effort. Managed to download their AK kernel updater app and it worked a charm. Thanks for your help. My battery now says 22hrs on 75% instead of about 5 hours. I'll leave this open for another day just incase it starts draining.

Thanks mate. Does wiping dalvik/ cache delete any data, apps etc?
It deletes the data IN your apps. But not any apps or photos or any personal data. I.e. if you've got a game that's linked to Google Play, your data will save, if not back it up.

That's incorrect. Wiping cache and dalvik cache doesn't wipe any app data at all. Only wiping the /data partition will erase apps (and their data) from the device.

Play Services force-closing - fix?

Yes, this is a straight-forward fail - I am running a CM13-based ROM and flashed a nightly build (has been redrawn meanwhile) onto my N5 without backing up first. Right after the first reboot, I received a "Play Services has stopped working" error message and this keeps appearing all the time. Additionally, the Google Now Launcher has disappeared from my launcher list - and of course, all the Play Services-dependent features don't work, i.e. Chrome, Contacts sync, Play Store and so on. So, my phone basically is useless.
I suspect all the problems arise from the non-working Play Services. I managed to uninstall them after deactivating the Android Device Manager and re-installed the latest version, but this didn't fix the problem. Is there anything else I can try? Or is there no way around a complete wipe?
have u flashed Gapps?
Tried it, but didn't help either. I'll just go for a full wipe now. But thank you for answering!

try clearing Cache and dalvik cache and then delete the host file from "etc" folder!
I should've tried deleting the host file. Wiping Dalvik and Cache didn't work before...
Anyway, I took the opportunity, put my 32GB mainboard in and set up everything from scratch.
Are you using amplify?
No, I didn't use that.
