try to clear cache.
as you have not rooted , i guess you also haven't unlocked bootloader.
Then try to reset factory.
If problem not solved go to motocare.
They'll reflash lollipop

Dude i already tried this but no help

Do those apps require root to work? If they do, you could unlock the bootloader, flash a custom recovery, and flash supersu from recovery to get root.

Dude they are just normal apps.
Like spirit 1 real aosp not working.
MX player not working & newer version not getting installed.
Smart app protector no more locking apps.
Dictionary not finding any word meaning.
The worst part is that I am not that technically advanced
To understand root bootloader custom recovery etc.

I'm not familiar with those apps so that's why I asked.
Maybe they have not been updated to work with Lollipop.

Stock OTA Update and Checking the Status of your Phone

I'm using the default ROM for my One X and I'd like to update it (I haven't since I got it 6 month ago); do I need to re-lock the bootloader and unroot it before I can use the OTA update? Also it's been a while since I even fiddled with my phones software so I forgot anything else I may have done, is there a way I can check to see what else has been done and if it's safe to update it?
Currently I have:
Android Version: 4.0.3
HTC Sense Version: 4.0
Software Number: 1.73.631.1
HTC SDK API Level: 4.11
HTC Extension Version: HTCExtension_403_1_HA_4
What firmware are u on currently for starters

Your phone should be factory default before performing OTA updates or results may be unexpected.
Most OTA updates are patch file based and require the files to be exactly what is expected.
There have been known issues with root being detected and the OTA failing.
Rooted phones progressing with an update but root lost after the update.
System files being modified and the OTA failing.
Recovery must be factory; not TWRP or CWM.
CID and MID must suit OTA.
The only modification I would consider safe through all OTA's so far has been SuperCID.
If you have any interest in rooting and flashing custom ROMs, I would suggest rooting and unlocking the bootloader now, while you are on 1.73, and not updating via OTA. The latest 2.20 update will also update your hboot, which plugs the holes by which kernels and radios can be flashed from recovery.
Since you're with att you can expect the jelly bean update any time from now till the end of the world which isn't fun waiting for .. I'd suggest if you were rooted download goo manager flash twrp....than flash a solid ics Rom if your prefer ice sense or you can go venture into the jb realms

Agree. If you are already BL unlocked and rooted, why go through the hassle of relocking the BL and returning to stock, just to wait for the OTA?
Just flash a JB ROM, as there are already stock and custom JB ROMs posted in Development.
Plus, until the OTA actually hits, we don't know if it will even be rootable. They have plugged the existing root exploits with every successive AT&T OTA for this phone so far. No reason to think any different for the JB update.
Just flash a JB ROM and stay rooted.
Ya I really like viper xl v3 . Just apply fix listed on op and you should be good to go

Stock OTA is not WORTH IT IMO, been there
Reselling the phone is probably the only reason i'd revert to stock.
Ok, so I tried to flash Android Revolution HD 18.0 instead of going back to stock. I used TWRP, but it said "unable to read zip file" and the flash failed, now my phone won't start up it just shows the HTC screen with "this build is for development purposes..." and continuously turns on and off.

Stick to the ROM's in our forum, I never heard of anything like that ROM for our phone sorry. Lucky you didn't brick it
O damn I feel very stupid now...
Can someone recommend me a JB ROM?
Also how would I even install one now? The AR HD one was the only ROM I had on my SD card
Edit: I figured out the Mount function in TWRP, so I know how to add new ROMs now

I'm just going to try a couple like wrecker suggested now that I've figured out how to flash ROM's properly
Thanks for your guys' helps
Is there a way to back up my apps/texts and stuff when flashing ROM's? I totally forgot about that and lost all of it, I didn't have anything particularly important, but it'd be a hassle to redownload everything everytime. I had Titanium Backup, but that's not a recovery for if you reflash right?

So I installed Cyanogen 10.0.0 but it didn't come with Google Play so I installed Gapps as well; now I keep getting the "Android Keyboard ASOP has stopped working" and I can't do anything. I've tried multiple versions of Gapps but they all give the error. I've also tried installing a keyboard apk on it's own but I am still unable to type anything.
Edit: Also when I downloaded Google Play as an apk separately it would crash immediately, but when I installed it from Gapps it was ok.

5.1.1 update

Looks like 5.1.1 is real and the Nexus Player is the first to get it. Factory image has been posted and I assume an OTA will be following shortly.
https://developers.google.com/android/nexus/images#fugu
Flashed and still can't cast to the damn thing without the FPS and motion being crap in the video
Wonder if there are any (significant) fixes for NP. I haven't really got any problems with mine so 5.1.1 doesn't sound very tempting for NP. For N5 on the other hand..
Edit: One problem btw, when casting the whole screen from our Nexus 5's, there sometimes isn't any sound. Reboot of NP workarounds this problem.

Do you have any issues with casting to it from the likes of showbox etc? ive tried so many different versions of apps to cast and they all produce the same issues with the NP that is not on the chromecast
One new change I noticed is they renamed Notifications to "Customize Recommendations" and put a new UI for it under the "Home Screen" settings. It makes since as calling them Notifications was quite confusing.

Actually no, I used to have problems but after 5.1 + some Google Cast Receiver update all my apps that I cast from works fine. I do not use Showbox.

Hey, I flashed the 5.1.1 factory image and tried Chainfire's root method (booting the root.img through fastboot), but SuperSU won't show up/or get installed. Did you do it the same way or can you take me through the steps?

What I did was after using Chainfire's method, I installed SuperSU from the Play Store. Afterwards I booted with root.img one more time because it wasn't granting superuser and now it works.
I still cant update the binaries tho as this for some reason causes a boot loop. It might just be that I didn't wipe.

I just saw the same thing--can boot with the root.img, but updating binaries stays stuck at the spinning dots. Root does work, however.

In case you still need it I got it working by installing adbd insecure then manually pushing SuperSU.apk to /system/apps and the binary to /system/xbin
Are the folks running rooted 5.1.1 still having issues with Material Design apps that use 3-dots menus on the top taskbar of the app? If running Titanium Backup, can you use the batch function on the top taskbar?

Regarding rooting problems on 5.1.1
I fixed this problem with rooting 5.1.1 last week in my Android Toolkit *HERE*. The problem with SuperSU not showing in the Apps bar is fixed if you adb install the Superuser.apk file that was used to root. If you have already rooted and have installed the Toolkit you can go to section 19 from the Main Menu and select the Superuser fix (option1) to extract the Superuser.apk and adb install it. Android 5.1.1 is also fully supported with download/flash/root available.
I did post in Chainfires support thread to let him know about the 5.1.1 rooting problem but I guess he has been away on a well deserved break.
Mark.
5.1.1 and trying to use http://download.chainfire.eu/631/CF-R
As mentioned I installed SuperSU from the Play Store after booting the root.img. It tries to install but then fails. Upon reboot it stays stuck at the boot animation. Only way out is a fresh restore/re-booting the root.img. Any ideas?

[Q] How the root/SuperSU works on the Android6?

This probably will be strange question, but I need to try...
My company is using the 3rd party app for access emails from outside network. (you need to have private server inside company, then you will not be able to test it). Issue is that this app does not work on some Custom ROMs.
The developer of this app stated, that app will not work if SuperSU or eXposted is installed and how detection is done is their know-how, so they will not say how it is done. I would be fine with this answer if it would be true.
Here is why I do not believe it is true:
> The app works on any Android 4.4 custom ROM, does not matter if it was rooted or SuperSU was installed
> The app works on any Android 5.0 custom ROM, does not matter if it was rooted or SuperSU was installed
> The app works on some Android 5.1 custom ROMs, but I was not able to figure out why. It work on rooted CM12.1 with SuperSU installed or rooted @temasek Temasek ROM, but it does NOT work on the AICP / SlimLP / Resurection ROMs which all of them include SuperSU
Now I´m on the start line again with Android 6... to find on which ROM the app will work or not...
I already tested these:
> app works on CM13, but this ROM is not so friendly as I used to, I miss a lot of features there
> app works on @temasek Temasek ROM, but almost every second app I try start it FC, so not suitable for use yet
> app does NOT work on @jgcaap [ROM][6.0] CyanogenMod 13.0 Builds [LAG FREE][2015/12/04], ROM not rooted... it required SuperSU to be installed
> app does NOT work on @danieldmm [ROM][CM13][Android 6.0] TugaPower 14.0, ROM not rooted... it required SuperSU to be installed
So, my question is: How the root/SuperSU is handeled by Android 6? I´m not developer, so maybe I´m asking wrong way.
What I would like to understand is, why some ROMs are rooted (have the switch in the Developer menu), when other ROMs require to be SuperSU installed? So, the app works OK on the first "kind" of ROM and it does not on second "kind".
Thank you very much.
Edit: @Heisenberg advised me in past, when I was struggling with A5.1.1 that it might be due to Privacy Guard on Android 5

The problem is that even I did allow the root in the developer menu, the TiberianBackup was still complaining that it cannot get the root access, so I had to install/allow the SuperSU. And then, whey I finally restore the company app from backup ... it doesn't work, probably because the SuperSU.
So, question is why some ROMs can be rooted and no SuperSU is required there (TiberianBackup works OK)?
Examples are: CM12/CM12.1/CM13 or @temasek ROM ... there is no SuperSU and TB still get root access and the company app works there? How come? I would like to understand this

Ahaaaa, so there are differences how to implement the root, ok. Thank you.
So, the company app works only on the "stock CM root", but not on the any other.
Yes, I do not argue with you that TitaniumBackup doesn't work, it works, but both, root and SuperSU, have to be allowed on your ROM.
To be absolutely honest, I like your ROM, but also I need my company app works, but suddenly it doesn't work on your ROM

I tested the latest TugaPower 15.0.
Yes, the "root is fully controlled by the SuperSU" is the problem for that app, the SuperSU is detected as security threat and it will not start.
And yes again, the Xposed module is detected by that app too as security threat, so it will not start as well.
So, basically saying, I need to use ONLY custom ROMs, which implement the CM root, no SuperSU or Xposed is allowed.
And there is not many of them and its hard to find one with nice features and cherry-picks.
Question: how do you decide which root will be included in your ROM when you building it?

Aha, I got it, why it doens't work ...
In TWRP installed:

But when I pressed reboot I got message> "Your device dost not appeared to be rooted. Install SuperSU now? This will root your device."

2) Swipe> "Swipe to Install" ... which will caused the company app will not work, so I will not able to connect to company emails

[BS_FREE_Lollipop_5.0_Rom_BOK3_Based]

This BS_free ROM does not have two different versions like his previous build. I left only the Samsung apps needed for UPSM and HD calling to work.
INSTRUCTIONS:
I've included the links needed if you want to use xposed and Viper4Android. If you chose not to use these features, then skip them in the flashing process.
I personally prefer using safestrap when clean flashing a ROM, but you can use flashfire if you must.
1) WIPE EVERYTHING!
2) Flash No_BS ROM
3) Flash Extra toggles
4) Flash No_Bootloader_Rooting_Tools_For_S5_Lollipop_V3.zip
5) Flash xposed-v75-sdk21-arm-arter97-snapdragon.zip
6) Flash Viper Policy
7) Flash Viper4Android
8) Flash BOK3 Firmware without bootloader
9) After first boot, open up Viper4Android and install the driver. Note: Sometimes it takes 2-3 times before the driver will install.
I have confirmed that @jrkruse 5-way reboot with Safestrap works on this ROM!!! If you want to use it, add it to the end of the flashing list. 5Way_Safestrap_Reboot_PM. As a side note, if you use 4-way reboot in Wanam Xposed, then that feature needs to be disabled for 5-way reboot to work.
The ROM should boot in about 8 minutes. The music app will force close everytime the device reboots, but it does work normally.
Forgive my lack of knowing how to make a build thread, since this is my first one, so I'm still learning lol.
NO_BS_BOK3_ROM_DEODEXED.zip
Update: NO_BS_BOK3_ROM_DEODEXED_V2 is now available. The flashing process is the same. I encountered an intermittent bug with SuperSU beta with some apps. I downgraded to the latest stable SuperSU with the latest app. I updated all other apps and got rid of the bright/ugly Verizon boot animation. The music app has not force closed since I started using this version.
Update: NO_BS_BOK3_ROM_DEODEXED_V3.zip is now available. The flashing process is the same. I updated busybox and removed SBrowser. I also implemented the signature verification fix by @jrkruse, along with default animation scales set to 0.5x.
Update: NO_BS_BOK3_ROM_DEODEXED_V4 is now available. The flashing process is the same. I updated all apps, except for YouTube(xposed purposes). I added the missing VPN apk as well. Let me know if there is any other issues with VPN related settings.
Update: NO_BS_BOK3_ROM_DEODEXED_V5 is now available. The flashing process is the same. I updated all apps. I added the headphone app notification, voicenote, and SPrintSpooler. I don't use voicenote or SPrint, so let me know if there are any issues with these apps.
Note: Don't pay attention to the 1- prefix in front of some of the ROM versions. I prefix all my flashables in my ROM folder with a 1-, 2-, 3-, ect, so that I have them all in order when I flash them instead of having to remember the order every time lol. I forgot to remove those prefixes when I uploaded the ROMs.
I am looking forward in seeing how this Rom is doing.

First and last will do just fine.
Works like a charm! Just wish someone could get Quick Glance working. I've seen it work in MOAR, but the 3minit mod that's included is a complete turnoff for me.

Do you mind elaborating on what Quick Glance is? Are you referring to where you wave your hand and it wakes up the display to show notifications?

That's the one.
I've used this in the past and I wasn't a big fan, but I didn't spend a lot of time trying to get it properly configured. I only tried it to see what it did. I personally don't like motion features.

I actually tried that already. It's honestly not great. Oh well. Maybe if I could figure out a way to strip 3minit...
I fell in love with motion features when someone stole my moto g and I had to pick up a Lumia 640. Great phone, but not an android
I'm on BS_FREE_BOG5_GOOGLE_V2_Deodexed and just updated with @jkruse New Root Tools For S5 Lollipop V6. Already enabled Lollipop Safestrap Recovery again and Flashed Most Current OG5 Firmware_No_Bootloader and current OG5_Kernel. Can I just use that and wipe everything flash this aside from 3Minit Battery without losing Root?

Just to be clear, are you asking if you can run this on BOG5 firmware?

No, I mean using the V6 Root Tools instead of the V3 as indicated in your directions...
Also, I'm hoping that with a new install I will regain ability to work with Accessibility Options in Settings.
Idk if it makes a difference but I have Original GS5 Rooted, never taken OTA, always ONLY used XDA sources for ROM/Firmware/Kernels.

My rooting tools has the newest firmware, I just forgot to change the version number at the end, but it does say no bootloader.
I wish you luck on the accessibility apps. I never use them, so I don't specifically look for them to work.

Ok but all the same, I'm trying to avoid another 300mb DL if I can. As long as it is the same stuff then that's all I need to know.

I Flashed it last night with @jkruse's No Bootloader V6 Tools and it worked just fine. I also, noticed that my Accessibility Settings works now and a couple other things were fixed as well. I did have a hard time Restoring Poweramp Music Player - I had to reinstall from Play Store but otherwise seems to be working great!

Wanna install the Chinese firmware but doesn't havel google services/play store

Hi everyone,
So basically I wanna download and install the latest Chinese firmware for my xperia xz coz it has less bloatware and If I remember correctly, most of the bloat that come with it can be uninstalled without root!
The problem, however, is the lack of play store and its services. Does anyone know a workaround for this issue?
all thoughts are appreciated! thanks!

Just flash GApps in recovery.
I guess I should've mentioned preferably without unlocking the boot loader or rooting-sorry.
So is it still possible?
GApps can be flashed via TWRP.
So, you have to Unlock BL to install cutom recovery, then flash GApps.
just install important gapps, just download in apkmirror
