[Q] Upgrading to 2nd gen Moto G - worth it? - Moto G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Im considering upgrading to the newer version of the G and giving the old one to my parents. Is the upgrade really worth it? How is the battery life compared to the original G?
Just looking for your thoughts...

Both phones have same processor, RAM and GPU. Only difference is new moto g have slightly bigger screen and 8 mp camera while old moto g have 5 mp camera.
But old moto g has great developer support while newer one is not that famous.
So I suggest not upgrading.

Don't update now,
Wait and update to Moto G 3rd gen when release.

[Q] Should I buy Moto G 16GB? (S2 9100 user) (quad coe a7 vs dual core a9 @ same GHz)

Helo everyone! I'm between Nexus 4 and Moto G. BUT, I've been with no smartphone for half a year(sucks really hard). So, I'm thinking of buying a Moto G because the Nexus 4 is more expensive.
The thing is, is the Quad Core A7 cpu better or the same than a Dual Core A9 cpu at the SAME SPEED?(The S2 9100 has a 1,2GHz Dual Core A9)
Thanks guys!
The moto G is faster than the Galaxy S2. It's less powerful than a Nexus 4 because the Nexus 4 has twice the RAM though it comes close in some benchmarks because of the optimized ROM, nand storage filesystem, and CPU. In real world usage though an N4 will be much smoother and faster. Still the Moto G is a fine device. By the way, the Nexus 4 is no longer for sale. Perhaps you mean a Nexus 5? That kind of blows away a Moto G and most other smartphones. Though there is the price factor and the moto G is more than adequate.

Thanks for the reply! I meant Nexus 4. I'm from Greece and I can find it in some stores and also on Amazon and ebay.
How fast is CyanogenMod 11 on Moto G? Is the stock ROM faster than CM11 or at least the same? I like flahing ROMs and kernels(as everyone else ) so I wouldn't want the flashed ROM to be slower than the stock ROM.
I used to have a nexus 4
Other than the price also consider the battery, the moto g battery life is better than the nexus 4 in my opinion and experience. So if you buy the moto g, you save some money and get the must have accesories like the meenova microsd card you can expand you memory and also the flip shell from motorola so that you can wake your phone without using the power button.
I have played MC4 in the moto g and in the nexus 4, in the nexus is used to get very hot the whole phone but the moto g does not do that much or at least not as the nexus did, that game is pretty heavy but no difference with the nexus , about the ram I have not felt any significant difference maybe others but my experience it works very well. However if you are into video and photography then the nexus is much better than the g, so consider that as well.
Hope you get what you are looking for.
bye

I have had the N4, Moto G, and s2 (i9100). I like all of them but I find the s2 too slow for me. If the N4 and Moto G are the same price, I would pick the N4.
Right now, there are no custom ROMs for the Moto G based on CM11 or AOSP.

I ordered the meenova but then read the 'fine print'...Moto G has to be rooted or else only can be used on read-access basis. Am trying to cancel order as have no plans to root the device. Too bad. Many thanks for your recommendation, appreciated

[Q] Thinking of buying one of these

Anything I'd need to know XDA-wise about the device? Pros, cons, experiences with it?
Get a Moto G better for the same price range - 3mp camera (moto g has 5mp,1.3front) + quad core snapdragon 400 1.2Ghz and same 305gpu

Interesting point with the Moto G, but it costs exactly twice as much as the price of what I could get an Xperia L for in here, as well as no SD slot.
Twice as much? Wow, here in the UK the Moto G (8GB) is nearly half the price of Xperia L (RRP from Sony Mobile). Yeah, lack of SD card support on the Moto G maybe off putting for some-the 8GB Moto is no good, out of 8GB you will only get about 4.5GB user accessible and for the 16GB you get around 14GB, I know this because my dad has the 8GB Moto G and by bro has the 16GB Moto G, I am the only Xperia user in the household (and am proud to be an Xperia user).
Anyway so it is a two horse race between 16GB Moto G and Xperia L, which one is down to you.
BTW don't buy either now, you got the MWC literally next week, Sony may announce new phones then or soon after-so if you can wait then wait. Who knows there may be the successor to the Xperia L or the Xperia L may go down in price...:fingers-crossed:

[Q] Oneplus Two or...?

Last year I bought a Moto G 1st gen.
At the beginning it was very fast and responsive but now my will is to throw it at the wall
I'm thinking on buying a new phone so I looked at oneplus 2 specs and I like them a lot (64gb rom, 4gb ram, 1.8GHz, fingertip reader...).
At this moment Oneplus 2 64gb version is priced with 399€.
So do you think I should buy it or there are better options for lower/same price?
Thanks
Well, the moto g should still be a pretty fast and good phone. Have you tried a factory reset and updating it to the latest Android version.

It is on its last Android version, but I didn't factory reset it yet.
Give that a shot after backing up your data.

Yes you should since there are not much better phones on that price range.
Other phones to consider are:
LG G3 ( 360€ ) and the Moto X Pure ( 399€ )

should i upgrade to the 3rd gen moto G?

There is a deal where i get £50 off price of 8gb 3rd gen moto g, bringing price to £80.
My current moto G 1st gen (xt1032) is fine, except i keep running out of space. Insufficient memory.
The sd card feature on the 3rd gen has me interested. BUT, lotss of people are complaing that you can't transfer many apps to sdcard, even with adaptive storage feature of new android.
So my main problem with my phone, which is lack of memory, wont really get solved, right? Other than that I am fine with my current phone.
Should I upgrade?
(should i have posted this in the Moto G 2015 forum?)
No, the only things good of 2015 moto g is camera and the water resistence! There are many things no good (my brother have moto g 2015):
-the audio is no good, is low
-the memory is no sufficient
-1Gb of RAM now is not good! In 2013 yes but now no!
-the CPU is similar to our falcon (snap 410 on 2015, snap 400 on 2013)
Wait for the 2016 lenovo G is my answer
Install a light ROM on your moto g 2013 and you can resolve the memory problem (like my BackToCyanogenmod11). Don't play at the marketing game! Moto G 2013=Moto G 2014=Moto g 2015. The only things upgraded is camera! (Moto g 2015 photo are beautiful and you can make photo also in the see!)

you convinced me. thanks. i shouldnt be looking at new phones anyway, can't afford them. I'll start learning about flashing new ROM. phone is already rooted anyway.
I just realised I have a 1.5 gig nandroid backup saved to internal memory which wasn't showing up in the storage thing. I can delete/move that!! ¿Moto G Turbo can receive Android N?

Hello friends, based on rumors that the Moto G3 not receive android N due to technical limitations of soc and gpu , I would ask if the Moto g turbo if you receive android N? I ask based on differences in hardware because the turbo model has soc snapdragon 615 and gpu Adreno GPU 405 and in theory there are no limitations on the driver Qualcomm. Thank you very much for your opinions.
To be honest, the Moto G 2015 and the Turbo will likely get it, the only problem with the SD410 SOC is that it won't support Vulcan, which is not a requirement for Nougat.
That being said, Moto has made no promises, or even hinted, at anything about Nougat... I own the Moto X Pure Edition (the US version of the Style) and no word on that either... In fact, Moto hasn't even said if the G4 or Z will get it, although that is more likely than us getting it.
The entire problem here is Moto has nothing at all about Nougat and we are just left to our best speculations.
