Hi all,
it's not a real issue but I have seen it on two phones I own.
Right when you turn on the device, there's the welcome message OnePlus Powered By Android.
That logo / screen is then cut off is if something is hiding it.
A few seconds after, there's that boot animation.
I'm using latest 5.0.2 CM nightly.
Can someone tell me if it's possible ot fix?
Same issue here, I don't think you should worry about that

It's just a bug with the boot splash, nothing major, nothing to worry about, it'll be rectified in due time.

Seems like a hardware issue. Did it happen before you flashed?

Hey was that something like this, it happened with me once.
Funny, I'm having this issue as well. I wonder what's causing this? Are you undervolted?
I think its a hardware issue maybe the LCD data ribon cable is faulty as seeing this as a kid when you unskrew the cable connection to the TV you get a similar effect

Yeah this is a hardware issue, RMA it ASAP.

Old thread but I'm still a Nexus 5 user and this randomly started happening to me, I verified it wasn't software when forced a restart in all modes and still had it. Long story short, had pieces from my old Nexus 5, replaced the ribbon and all good for 2 days now.
I've seen that too, in my situation it's caused by one particular APP that seems no compatible with either ROM or kernel, just force stop the APP and the issue is solved.
Maybe you can try another ROM or kernel to see if it still happens.
Hi,
Not sure if this is the right forum thread, but recently having lots of problem with my N5.
i have a 32GB N5, when I use LTE & Location on the road, it heats up, the screen starts flickering and eventually, gets to a point when I don't see anything, I have to wait for it to cool down, turn off from recovery by guessing and after 15-20-30 mins, it will be back to Normal. Is this an issue with N5 or is it just with mine.
I bought it from Craigslist, so I do not have any warranty info. not sure if I can get it replaced.
I have used many many different ROMs on my N5, it was unlocked & I rooted it. Currently I am running stock rooted with Faux kernel with Gravitybox for customizations.
Any help would be appreciated.
TIA,
Dhaval.
From the way it is described it is way more than just software especially with screen flickering clearly this isn't an issue with every nexus 5 or Google would have addressed it immediately.. I would restore back to complete stock and see if it still does it. Too bad you bought it from some guy off craigslist, he probably knew about the problem and just didn't RMA it.
There is a Q&A forum.
Do you get some weird colored lines sort of like TV static also? Randomly, my phone does this every so often and I'm somewhat worried about it.
It only occurs in apps, on the home screen it doesn't occur.

A stock Nexus 5 should be pretty well protected from over heating. I would recommending restoring the factory firmware to see if it fixes the problem. If it is still over heating then it probably needs a visit to service.

ElementalX kernel might be making it funny. I'll go back to stock kernel first and see.

OP
if i were you, i would download the Google N5 Image from their servers and wipe your device clean
before knowing is for sure its hardware related, i would rule out all signs of software issues first
Hi!
For past two-three days I am experiencing this problem. Touch sensor just randomly stops working. Top side of the screen is very very difficult to control, sometimes even impossible. Sometimes it feels like sensor recognizes multiple touches at the same time which results random pages or menus opening and closing.
After short usage with screen up or after long downtime (like when I go to sleep) I'm not able to use sensor at all. I cannot shut down the alarm clock, I cannot answer the calls. I still can use the power button tho.
Now what is the most retarded is that nearly all that vanishes after phone reboot. The only thing that remains is that top side of the screen is still quite difficult to control. For example I cannot open that top slide-bar comfortably. I have to slowly move my finger over the screen in order to do so.
Phone specifications:
Custom ROM: Cyanogen 11-20140702-nightly
sdcard partition type: FAT32
bootloader version: 2.14
Security-OFF
CID: 11111
Custom recovery: TWRP 2.7.0.8
P.S.: tried to re-insall ROM did not help. Phone havent been damaged by any means recently.
Did u over or under clock..flash a mod to control kernel? That's what it sounds like
I'm assuming you're using the stock kernel? What you're describing is an ongoing issue with the CM kernel, flash a custom kernel (Torched or Bubba) and your problem should cease.

Wow. I never knew there was an issue with stock kernel...what's causing that anyways?
Damn it..
I'm a newbie with all that kernel flashes. Any How-To for noobs? Guide or something? I have found Tourched Kernel for KK thread (I suppose it stands for Kit-Kat?), but it's quite puzzling for me with all that voltages.
P.S.: What caused such random issue all of the sudden? Have been using CM for quite a bit of time already. Got that issue just 2-3 days ago

I have no idea what's causing it, I do know that using a custom kernel always fixes it for me though.

Flashing a kernel is similar to flashing a ROM, if you want instructions just check the How-To Guide For Beginners thread in my signature.

Meh, I have updated kernel to 3.4.86-Torched-KK.B4.3+
Problem is still here.
Still cant open top slide menu properly. It is just weird, it really seems like some sort of damage to very top side of the screen. But i didnt hit it or anything like that. Screen itself without any visible damage or even scratches, cuz im using screen protector. Gonna see if I can at least answer the calls properly without sensor goin full nuts.
update:
That's definitely a software issue. If i turn the phone around so screen would get rotated that "damaged" area works just fine. What the **** is going on? It started so randomly
You can try flashing a different ROM, or rolling back to the last build of CM that you remember being ok.

Maybe reflashing the ROM and the kernel would be a good idea. I've had to do that too. Its annoying, but sometimes I had to do that. Good luck.
Nop..
I've done the factory reset. Installer fresh ROM, Gapps and kernel.
Same ****. I Guess That is indeed hardware damage to sensor.
/sadpanda
There's a way to diagnose it. Download an app called sensor on play store
Hey guys I've had the nexus 5 for about 2 months and a half and nothing went wrong, but recently the battery started to drain fast in 7 hours at night with GPS and WiFi closed airplane mode etc... It went down form 100 to 77, I thought the problem might be from viper and uninstalled it today, but when I put the headphones on, the sound is maximum even when I make it the least(zero) I restarted the phone and everything was fine but then I saw a pixel (the one at the bottom right corner ) flashing with white color and the bottom of the screen stopped responding and it did things on its own (opening and closing recents ) I restarted the phone again and the screen problem disappeared but the sound problem returned (I uninstalled viper 5 minutes before the screen problem ) I'm running rooted stock twrp gravitybox please help me
Please use better thread titles
The symptoms sound a bit like water damage. First thing I'd recommend is return to stock completely and reassess

I'm pretty sure its not water damage for two reasons
1 it has never been near water recently
2 water damages don't come and go they are just there, even the pixel at the corner stopped flashing and the battery became a little better after uninstalling viper (The version I had was from last march!) But its still not the usual
The sound problem is still there, I think its software not hardware and I was going to flash the new Android Lollipop (yep its official) developer preview image once its released today
And I couldn't think of a title for this because its a strange problem, I surely won't say Dead pixle screen not responding sound battery issue
BTW it says android os uses the most battery
You should flash official stock not unproven developer previews.
You could have called the thread "strange screen and other issues". Anything other than "help me, no attempt to describe the problem" which if you read the forum rules, you'll see you're breaking.

If I were you I would flash a stock KitKat image instead of Android Lollipop just because of the simple fact that it's a developer preview and is meant to test app compatibility not to run as a Daily Driver.

OK sorry but how to change the title?
Its only the sound problem now guys but its really annoying , maybe the screen problem was a glitch or something, but I noticed that the sound problem is only with music players not games or other things

Well you asked for help so I gave you my opinion about it. To each his own. I'm not trying to be offensive either. XD
