Still on the JellyBean 4.3 (X-Note 7) - what am I missing out? Update recommended? - Galaxy Note 3 General

Hey folks,
I still have 4.3 installed on my note 3 and since its really starting to get a lil old, I was wondering if its finally worth upgrading?
I mean I customized this thing so hard with hand selected debloating of 99% of the system apps that are just spyware/crapware to me, including all google apps except playstore and the required additional apks. Also using xposed to tweak everything to my needs like custom button configs and visual tweaks etc pp..
From what I've seen and read so far things got more difficult in Kitkat than before. Like Apps not beeing able to fully use SD-Card or problems with root etc.. so is there anything really positive that Kitkat or Lollipop added?
Either the stock versions or aosp based?
Would be cool to hear some opinions.
And what about performance? On my 4.3 Rom with custom kernel @ 2225mhz i get like 35-37k antutu score as well. How are your guys' scores nowadays with recent roms and similar clock?

Lol if I could I would downgrade to 4.3. Although Kitkat is okay but the experience varies and I prefer jellybean.

If I could go back to jellybean I would also

Roll back to jellybean
I have been all the way upto 5.0 but I ended up rolling back to 4.3.
You can roll back to 4.3 without tripping knox. You might get invalid IMEI due to unknown baseband once you downgrade, but flashing the modem file in the 4.4 ROM for your region solves that.
Simply put, I am okay with 4.3

Can I downgrade to 4.3 on my N9005? Or has anyone did that on N9005?

I'm still on JB 4.3 as well. Reading about the issues with KK (SD card, removal of text reflow from webkit, battery drain, etc.), and Lollipop (white menu screens, battery drain again), even though many (all?) of these can be remedied with root, doesn't make me want to really upgrade. Maybe when the Note 5 comes out, I'll switch devices and use the newer versions of Android, but for now, all of my apps work just fine on JB and battery life is very good, so why bother upgrading? ART would be the only reason I'd be interested in upgrading to Lollipop, but the battery-killing white menus are a major turnoff. If these can be skinned to dark colors, then I'd consider it.

Don't go to KitKat, just wait Lollipop and feedbacks. My wife 's note 3 9005 has random reboot after upgrading to 4.4.2 and now it has >10 times a day. I tried all of the ways found on Internet (in Wifi advance, reformat ext card, change sim card, root, xposed with KitKat reboot fix, use many many roms, including Lollipop leaked,...) but it is worse now. I don't know it's a hardware problem or software but it was happened after going to KitKat. I have also a Note 3 which was upgraded to KitKat but it doesn't have random reboot, don't know why Official Lollipop is only hope now for my wife 's phone.
PS: as I know we cant downgrade from 4.4 to 4.3 on note 3 9005?

Which means VZW probably has some trickery in this to permalock the bootloader, so be careful.
Can anybody please check what languages does 4.3 have and if they're any different from 4.1.2? As we won't have root as of now, I'm afraid to lose support of one specific language enabled by Language Enabler. Thanks in advance!
Well this is great news. Maybe i'll run it over the holidays for the Camera. Can't wait to see what our great Devs can do with this!

So seeing that Beans hardbricked his S3, is the only way to unroot back to stock, re-lock the bootloader, and then get the update?

[Q] How can I root a Verizon SCH-I535 4.3?

Hi,
I was recently given a stock Verizon SCH-I525 but unfortunately they had upgraded it to android 4.3. I have tried almost every way to root this thing with no luck. How do I go about rooting this version? If I can't, is there a way to flash it back to one of the older versions and then root it?
Thanks
Jim

4.4.2 touchwiz based ROMs for Galaxy s4 active i537

I've go all over the forums looking for a 4.4.2 ROM touchwiz based to try on my Galaxy s4 active i537, I'm also willing to try any ROMs to see if it's works or not and report it back to let others know.
Any help will be really appreciated.
Thanks in advance.
Tried ROMs on i537:
1. Hyperdrive RLS20-Working(must flash master patch for WiFi and other problems.)
2. Graviton-Tried! (bootloops)
Let me know of if you want me to try any Kitkat ROM I'll gladly try it.
Not KitKat but the OC7 SICKASHELL ROM is really nice. I believe it's the only i537 rom, with flash fire being new. If you're still on kitkat though, I believe the regional version of the s4a has a s*** ton of roms to choose from. I don't know how well they will work though.

Flashed XtrestoLite, can't hear/be heard in call

So after solving many problems during flashing, I finally got a 100% clean perfect install working of XtrestoLite MM working on g920w8. Only one problem left, there's no sound in call, but audio works fine taking/playing back a video. phone is a week old, no hardware defects. Is there something Obvious I may have missed?
-xtreStoLite 6.0.1 root enabled
- samsung s6 g920w8
- xposed
-viperFX
- stock kernel
- knox 0x1
- not sure what bootloader/modem is on it but didn't change it manually, maybe its for LP or maybe XtreStoLite flashes newer MM compatible versions
No, ROM doesn't flash BL/modem, the instructions are very specific about verifying those prior to installation.
My suggestion is to flash latest Bell 6.0.1 stock ROM with Odin, which will give you the latest BL/modem, then flash XtreStoLite again.

I'll give it a try. Will the Bell ROM work on this phone? its from Rogers. could I not flash just the bl/modem by themselves? I went back to stock through kies recovery mode when it was bootlooping, and it put me back on lollipop, and in about phone it said "up to date"
The ones in post #5 are older than the new ROM. Rogers hasn't released it yet, but you can flash any Canadian ROM without issue. Plus, you're going to clobber it right away with XtreStoLite.

absolutely, like a million times since I had so many issues getting it to work at first. I just wasn't sure what you were referring to at first. I'll take another look.
Never had this much trouble with my htc. I guess things were simpler back then.
EDIT: I checked it out, you're right, they're about 2 weeks older than the rom, but the dev linked them, so shouldn't they work? they say they're for 6.0.1, and still only a couple months old right now.
Slow download. I'm gonna come back to it tomorrow. thanks for your time!
Either way will work, but you'll have less heartache installing the stock ROM first. Good luck.

I tried your suggestion today, and it successfully flashed, but its just stuck on the bootscreen. flashed twrp back on and restored my backup but still no sound in call.
EDIT: Ah stupid me. I didn't realize twrp backs up and restores modem on samsung phones, on htc it was never in the list. trying again.
- Still nada. restoring through kies again to rogers 5.1.1
-I gave up, went back to stock. oh well. thanks anyways
All you had to do was flash the call audio fix and the arter kernel and you would've been set.

It's not in the aroma packages, it's a separate zip file you have to download.
And depending on the rom or the rom base, you're going to need arter kernel or another kernel that was tested to be 100% compatible with The 920T/920W8 models--rom makers will list whether their roms were tested with these models--otherwise the fix won't work.
I don't remember if the default Xtres kernel will work with the fix or not since it's been awhile, but there's no reason to not try it out. Either the stock kernel will work or arters kernel will definitely work.

I found the fix for both LP and MM so I went with marshmallow, but for some reason it wouldn't boot after my restore in twrp. I tried flashing the arter kernel, but it bootlooped. I eventually gave up, so I tried LP and that worked, so I stuck with it. all problems fixed now. Thanks guys!
I didn't mention call audio fix, as it's included in newer XtreStoLite builds, so unnecessary. As long as a MM BL/modem are on the phone, there should be no reason for the patch.
Sent from my SM-G920W8 using Tapatalk
---------- Post added at 08:33 ---------- Previous post was at 08:29 ----------
Did you do a restore in TWRP? -groan- That's likely the reason for your problems in MM. And why it worked in LP.
If you're game, restore using Titanium Backup. There's a setting for restoring across ROMs, and you can restore only needed data (apps should be re-installed and not restored).

yeah, there are several of wifi hotspot apps out there that work on 6.0. Might want to poke around in the themes and apps section. Sometimes people get a little anxious about talking about hotspot apps because of the debate over it circumventing carriers money making abilities and that violates the TOS of XDA, but the last thing i saw the mods on here were ok with talking about it
I did, from PK1, and PL2 to OK4. So it is posible. Try redownloading/Odining OK4. Also there is a PK1 ROM with hotspot modded.

here is the list of sprint basebands just for reference in case youre interested
https://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/database/SM-G900P/SPR/
and youre in the 6.0.1 family and if you got it that way, youre likely not going to be able to downgrade (if thats what youre wanting to do), but you can root by flashing the PCA baseband then follow the 6.0.1 root instructions (im not sure, but i think theyre still just installing the appropriate TWRP, boot to twrp and flash supersu while in twrp)
