Can't go back to lolipop from Marshmallow - Sprint Galaxy S 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I already have PK1 MM ROM on my sprint s5, but I can't flash lollipop ROMs and Odin keeps failing.
How should I do that? Thanks.

you cant. there is a physical "fuse" of sorts in the phone that once you are on PK1, you cant go back. All you can do is root, twrp and flash 6.0 ROMs

yeah, there are several of wifi hotspot apps out there that work on 6.0. Might want to poke around in the themes and apps section. Sometimes people get a little anxious about talking about hotspot apps because of the debate over it circumventing carriers money making abilities and that violates the TOS of XDA, but the last thing i saw the mods on here were ok with talking about it

I did, from PK1, and PL2 to OK4. So it is posible. Try redownloading/Odining OK4. Also there is a PK1 ROM with hotspot modded.

here is the list of sprint basebands just for reference in case youre interested
https://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/database/SM-G900P/SPR/
and youre in the 6.0.1 family and if you got it that way, youre likely not going to be able to downgrade (if thats what youre wanting to do), but you can root by flashing the PCA baseband then follow the 6.0.1 root instructions (im not sure, but i think theyre still just installing the appropriate TWRP, boot to twrp and flash supersu while in twrp)

There is not root for 4.4 yet. I don't doubt it will be out in the next 1 or 2 months
So, has anyone upgraded this to Kit-Kat yet? I don't think we'll ever see it from AIO.
So the aio variant for sure has a locked bootloader?

Wow, just got a software update notice for 4.4.2. Of course I'm afraid to even try to install it. I don't want to lose root. I'm just shocked to even see it.

Do you have root? I know there's a way to download and grab the zip from the phone if you have root. Otherwise the other method you suggested may work.
EDIT: Root method is easier as you just download, use file manager to get it from /cache, and then you can upload it for others. I don't know which root methods do and don't work for your device however. Logcat can be done, you'll just be looking through a lot of lines of logs possibly.

its true what you say, i have been trying logcat but it shows a ton of lines, and im searching for the hotword .zip or zip or update and no results give me a URL, maybe samsung is cloaking the update from logcat or they found a way to hide it, in my phone the root i know it works is kingo root, but when im rooted the phone does not let me download the update, it says "your phone has been modified, updates are not available"

Thanks a bunch for posting this. Any luck for unlocking the bootloader? I'd love to get my CM love back! My sister updated the phone for me, she thought she was doing me a favor. I was playing around with stock at the time cuz I could always restore from Nandroid backup before.
Ok so after I flashed this on my bricked phone I'm back up and running 4.3 and happy,. But when I put the phone into download modeECUREBOOT i get this, is this normal?
ODIN MODE
PRODCUCT NAME: SCH-I535
CUSTOM BINARY DOWNLOAD: No
CURRENT BINARY: Samsung Offical
SYSTEM STATUS: CUSTOM
QUALCOMM SECUREBOOT: ENABLE
Warranty bit: 1
BOOTLOADER AP SWREV: 1
Other then custom system status becaused im rooted is everything else normal?
Yes that looks good. One thing im wondering is why some people are getting there warranty bit flaged. Mine still says 0 even after I tried to downgrade, fix with Verizon tool, root then flash this Odin file twice rooting both times.

sprint s6 edge 5.1.1 stock firmware please!

ok so i updated ,via OTA ,to version 5.1.1
after this i decided to try to root it using a flashable file (odin) and now the touch screen doesnt work.
i dont know what else i could possible do, i tried factory reseting even though i knew it wouldnt work since i flashed a boot.img file
so my last guess would be to flash the stock firmware, i have the stock firmware for 5.0.2 but you cant downgrade so i really need the G925PVPU2B0F7 firmware
if anyone knows where i could get it or any other ways of fixing it please say!

yeah, it recognizes my phone but i cant really do anything with it, according to smart switch, my phone is fully updated so i cant change anything and emergency recovery only works in a specific situation
the reason i needed the stock firmware for that version was because while attempting to get root i flashed (with odin) a boot.img and now the phones touch screen wont work
It took a month before the firmware was released. If you have Sprint insurance you can get a replacement for $0 dollars or $75 if you dont. You have to visit a repair store to start the paperwork. Jus claim, the phone touch screen didnt work after the update.

Hey, I did the same thing you did and someone had told me about this..... http://forum.xda-developers.com/spr...t/5-1-1-stock-of7-kernel-root-7-4-15-t3150350
Download the stock kernel from this forum above.
I flashed it via Odin and now have my touchscreen back. Now it's not a total fix but I'm now writing you this on my edge with the touchscreen working. It's the only thing available right now for us. Two things that don't work are the back and recent apps buttons and when you lock your phone the screen won't come back on without restarting into download mode then hitting restart phone from there. So I've just been keeping phone plugged in for the most part because of this so screen won't go off.

Yup 5.1.1 rooted. Both work just each one has its problems. I'd rather have working data using the stock of7 kernel tho. The us cellular kernel has working buttons and screen comes back on after it goes off but no data so if you could talk to some people about this maybe we could get a working kernel with root where everything works, which would be awesome.

I didn't flash Marshmallow. It was the actual OTA =). Problem was resolved though. Just the phone having a hiccup.

Flashed XtrestoLite, can't hear/be heard in call

So after solving many problems during flashing, I finally got a 100% clean perfect install working of XtrestoLite MM working on g920w8. Only one problem left, there's no sound in call, but audio works fine taking/playing back a video. phone is a week old, no hardware defects. Is there something Obvious I may have missed?
-xtreStoLite 6.0.1 root enabled
- samsung s6 g920w8
- xposed
-viperFX
- stock kernel
- knox 0x1
- not sure what bootloader/modem is on it but didn't change it manually, maybe its for LP or maybe XtreStoLite flashes newer MM compatible versions
No, ROM doesn't flash BL/modem, the instructions are very specific about verifying those prior to installation.
My suggestion is to flash latest Bell 6.0.1 stock ROM with Odin, which will give you the latest BL/modem, then flash XtreStoLite again.

I'll give it a try. Will the Bell ROM work on this phone? its from Rogers. could I not flash just the bl/modem by themselves? I went back to stock through kies recovery mode when it was bootlooping, and it put me back on lollipop, and in about phone it said "up to date"
The ones in post #5 are older than the new ROM. Rogers hasn't released it yet, but you can flash any Canadian ROM without issue. Plus, you're going to clobber it right away with XtreStoLite.

Oh, and use the SamFirm tool (search in XDA for it) to download the ROM.

Post #5? I don't know what you're referring to. WOW Rogers is way behind! but not really shocking haha
EDIT: oh I see, you updated your post, I searched for samfirm
Post #5 in the XtreStoLite thread. You sure you read the thread prior to installation???

absolutely, like a million times since I had so many issues getting it to work at first. I just wasn't sure what you were referring to at first. I'll take another look.
Never had this much trouble with my htc. I guess things were simpler back then.
EDIT: I checked it out, you're right, they're about 2 weeks older than the rom, but the dev linked them, so shouldn't they work? they say they're for 6.0.1, and still only a couple months old right now.
Slow download. I'm gonna come back to it tomorrow. thanks for your time!
Either way will work, but you'll have less heartache installing the stock ROM first. Good luck.

I tried your suggestion today, and it successfully flashed, but its just stuck on the bootscreen. flashed twrp back on and restored my backup but still no sound in call.
EDIT: Ah stupid me. I didn't realize twrp backs up and restores modem on samsung phones, on htc it was never in the list. trying again.
- Still nada. restoring through kies again to rogers 5.1.1
-I gave up, went back to stock. oh well. thanks anyways
All you had to do was flash the call audio fix and the arter kernel and you would've been set.

I must have missed the fix. I guess it was an aroma option? I'll give it a try another time, thanks for the input. I wish you had commented yesterday!!
was working OK with stock kernel. did I need arter kernel?

It's not in the aroma packages, it's a separate zip file you have to download.
And depending on the rom or the rom base, you're going to need arter kernel or another kernel that was tested to be 100% compatible with The 920T/920W8 models--rom makers will list whether their roms were tested with these models--otherwise the fix won't work.
I don't remember if the default Xtres kernel will work with the fix or not since it's been awhile, but there's no reason to not try it out. Either the stock kernel will work or arters kernel will definitely work.

I found the fix for both LP and MM so I went with marshmallow, but for some reason it wouldn't boot after my restore in twrp. I tried flashing the arter kernel, but it bootlooped. I eventually gave up, so I tried LP and that worked, so I stuck with it. all problems fixed now. Thanks guys!
I didn't mention call audio fix, as it's included in newer XtreStoLite builds, so unnecessary. As long as a MM BL/modem are on the phone, there should be no reason for the patch.

Did you do a restore in TWRP? -groan- That's likely the reason for your problems in MM. And why it worked in LP.
If you're game, restore using Titanium Backup. There's a setting for restoring across ROMs, and you can restore only needed data (apps should be re-installed and not restored).
