M8 and M7 Lollipop Update Delayed - Verizon HTC One (M8)

Oh well. They won't make the 90-day deadline. I guess it's better to get it right, than to get it quicker.

"Mo @moversi
We're making good progress on our #AndroidLollipop, but unfortunately missing our 90-day goal. For more info visit: http://s.htc.com/1DnMGHW"

No biggie, lollipop had a huge memory leak bug that would have ruined many people's experiences. I trust HTC will release a functional update soon.
I would rather have a fully working item than the newest one that is broken.

Oh well, the new Game of Thrones book got delayed by another year.

This affects current Lollipop ports we have? I feel like 4.4.4 is still smoother than the 5.0 ports we have.

Yea, sadly ATM, KK is more stable

I rather have the final release of bugfree KitKat then the new release of buggy lollipop.
I prefer chocolate to candy

My thoughts exactly, especially here on XDA. Just when we think we are getting close to the most perfect ROM with all the mod's and tweaks and themes we want, it all gets abandoned for the next version of Android and we have to start ALL over. It really kinda sucks if you ask me lol. We never get to the end of a perfect ROM. It is like the ultimate bootloop lmao. And by then our best Dev's abandon our device and we are left with scraps lmao.

Been running Lollipop for some time, now.
On my VZW M8 with CyanogenMod 12.
Personally, I prefer KitKat in several ways and I may return to it... I would have done so sooner if I wasn't so lazy.
Today I done did it, took the time to wipe completely and install CleanRom 3.0 so I'm back to KitKat and loving it!

lolipop update came for wifes new m8 today
Bought new m8 today it's wants to upgrade to lollipop I delayed it till 11.59 tonight maybe I will have time to root first

No, VZW is still in integration stage according to HTC.

So is T-Mobile, but they have their update to lollipop.

I've been running Nusense Lollipop and haven't ran into any glitches except occasional 4g to Wifi hand off. I prefer the notifications and pull down set up MUCH better in Lollipop. Other than that the recent apps change which is here nor there once Sense is applied its pretty much the same experience. Most of the other lollipop inherent changes like tap to wake and power saving mods were already features built into sense and other overlays or require an OLED screen to utilize.

According to Mo Versi on Twitter, the Sprint M7 got TA and the OTA will begin tomorrow. Kinda disappointing the M8 isn't receiving it first.

great news!Just saw this :
This device is in the 3 - Certification stage of the Android Lollipop Release.
Hopefully shouldn't be too long now!

Been running 5.0.2 on my Nexus 7 2013 for a while now and loving it. Battery life is great, much improved IMO. Stock launcher is ok, but it seems like Nova launcher is a bit snappier. But still playing around with that. All in all I really like the upgrade and have had no issues.

Verizon's can't be far behind. It just takes them longer to test their bloatware to make sure it really sucks.

Verizon test their builds longer. That's why VZW and AT&T have the fewest bugs.

There And Back Again (my trip to the Nexus S from Inspire 4G)

Shame on me.
2 weeks ago I've seen on the Google's homepage "Nexus S a pure Google experience" I clicked and long story short I decided to buy (for $0 of course, the 'only for today' strategy got me..) a Nexus S... at first I was very very very Happy... Frontal camera, video calls with skype, google videos, Gingerbread, NETFLIX (!!!)...
I wasn't really thrilled about the size of the screen... sensibly smaller than the Inspire although the resolution was the same, and the colors... the nexus' screen's colors are kinda yellowish...
I was so happy about the new features though that I've ALMOST sold my Inspire! Then right before selling it my Nexus fully charged during the night dies in my pocket at 4 in the afternoon... A sign from god... I started noticing the abnormal battery consumption and I open my eyes..
Long story short... I m now selling my Nexus S and keeping my Inspire... Using the Inspire after 2 weeks feels like a million dollars.. but now I really miss google videos and netflix!
Does anybody know how to get them on Inspire?? Apparently neither of them are compatible.... BS i say...
Netflix works fine on the latest Gingerbread update for Inspire. I don't know about google videos.
netflix works fine..

So does video calls with Skype, just no FFC, and the GB update was rolled out a couple weeks ago. I know google videos won't work with rooted devices, but I don't know about the stock Inspire ROM
Hold on... why and how Google video is not allowed on rooted phones (i have stock rooted)??
Also the GB update isn't unstable still?
Tnx so much for the netflix app!

yea - no disagreement here.
And just realized I missed your question about the stability of the GB update - I hadn't heard anything about it being unstable. I'm currently running virtuous unity v 1.33 (GB 2.3.4), which is in Beta, and seems incredibly stable to me. There are other GB ROMs that have been out for a WHILE that are also incredibly stable. If you're already running stock rooted, then you have root and guessing you're s-off, why not flash a custom GB ROM?
Oh no i meant the OFFICIAL one... I tried various roms and the only one I feel confortable with on the Inspire is the stock with sense and stock radio... So when I heard about the official GB update I was very happy... instead it's full of major bugs.. shame.
I will wait till they fix the update and somebody cooks the original rom... I'm not really a Sense fan but it performs very well on their devices...

Great phone, few annoyances
Overall I think it's a great phone, with a lot of potential. The battery life blows the Epic out of the water, the reception is WAY better, and the keyboard is amazing once you get past the initial learning curve.
Even the stock ROM is not that bad.. My only real gripe is the lack of any toggle buttons in the notifications menu. That drives me insane, I use those constantly and HATE having to go into the settings every time I want to turn anything on or off.
I am, however, eagerly awaiting a root method and some custom ROM goodness. Which will quite easily take care of the majority of my gripes (besides the non-removable battery).

I hated that damn epic. this phone is superior in every way. contrary to the "bigger is better" hype, I like the size of the phone. It fits nicely in my hand and I don't have to be a contortionist to get my fingers across the screen. the only issue I have to complain about so far, besides the lack of toggles, is that if you have head phones or a bluetooth device connected, the notifications play thru it instead of the back speak. But that could user error on my part.. It isn't that much thicker than the original Photon. I'm holding them both in my hands right now and the weight isn't that much different either, especially for a slider. I'm not in to much of a hurry for any custom roms. but it would be nice to have root. I'm sure shabby or one of the other great devs will have that taken care of soon enough...

There are other alternatives, just giving 1 example.
So far, my thoughts on this device are that it is amazing! This could just be because i'm upgrading from a DROID Eris from Verizon, but this device does just about everything right!
The keyboard is by far the best one I've used on a mobile device, its very tactile and the back light is bright and adjustable. The phones performance is top notch, no lag in apps or just scrolling around. I've even gotten my ps1,n64,and gba emulators running great with keys mapped to the keypad
My internet browsing experience is been quite good, even though I'm still using sprint's 3g network, all websites load up quick and are smooth.
The screen looks fantastic, although it isn't full HD, colors are vibrant and watching videos is great on the phone. Overall, i am VERY pleased with the device so far, and i cant wait to see what developers have in store for it!

Better than the Galaxy S III?
So, the question for me is how does it compare to the Galaxy SIII?
Well the sg3 was out because samsung does not update crap. So I was leaning towards the htc evo lte when I heard about the photon q. Sometimes I have to compose some sizable emails for work and the touch typing can get pretty frustrating in those situations, so I end up using my epics keyboard a lot. Even thought about getting the htc and a blackberry just for emails for work

i did actually, froyo came a little slower but i understand why, back then AOSP was really closed off towards just the nexus one. you want proof in that look at how long it took from eclair to froyo vs froyo to gb, samsung had based the nexus s off its samsung galaxy line so it was able to know how to have the code work on the humming bird a hell of a lot sooner. in fact the gingerbread update was posted the day ICS was announced, thus making the epic only 1 update "behind". granted its two now but its also past its two year mark (or rather tomorrow it will be, i remember picking mine up on august 31st 2010 launch day)
the epic 4g touch launched with gingerbread not that long ago it got ics and will prolly get jellybean someday. sgs3 launched with ICS and the tmo version already has leaks of JB, meaning it will prolly happen soon.
now lets compare that to the photon (im sure a few other moto phones fit this bill) launched with 2.3.4, after 7?8? months got an update to 2.3.5 instead of ICS, ICS is coming later this year which means it will only be one update behind until Key Lime is released this november, what do you think the odds are of the photon getting jellybean officially? so as of this november it will be 2 behind and stay that way, considering photon owners are 1 year into their 2 year agreement for that device doesnt leave a lot of hope.

[Q] CM11 vs. 4.4.2 stock?

I just bought a Nexus 5 and I was wondering which is better: CM11 nightlies or just having rooted stock FW ..
Which one is faster? (bootup time, app launch times, smoothness)
And am I really missing any features when staying stock?

It's really up to you to decide which is better. Cm will probably have more bugs than stock but maybe they're ok for you

I flashed just about everything and settled on stock. cm11, purity ROM, sanity, slim, you name it. Stock with xposed is great. On any custom ROM, I lost LTE and still don't know why. Gravitybox is just about the same as running a custom ROM, too.

I dont see much of a point in owning a nexus if you are just gonna throw Cyanogenmod on it.
Sent from my Nexus 5 using xda app-developers app
I would probably stick with stock if I didn't require voice+ app by cyanogenmod. Until hangouts come with full Google voice number support sticking with CM11.
CM11 really isn't that buggy with current nightly, it's incredibly stable. Also the fact that it's a continuous work in progress is plus. You never know when stock gets updates.
Other than that I would use paranoid android when that comes out or pacman.

Or like any other Android phone. Almost every major Android phone has Cyanogenmod ported to it. I don't personally understand the appeal of buying a Nexus phone to then throw on the same custom rom that you could run on literally any other Android phone. I guess if you are off contract and absolutely love Cyanogenmod for some insane reason. . . . .
As said on a non nexus the cyanogen team really shine, to be honest I'm loving cataclysm ROM at the minute. Close to stock but has just enough customisations for me

thx for your reply! i like cm very much. but i figured there would be the disadvantage that cm updates will take a little longer than google (which was the other way round with samsung). maybe this will change since google is sending out dev-previews of new major releases now.
have a nice day,

I will never use CM again, and will stay away from CM variants if at all possible.
You're talking about 2-3 days here. If that worried about it, go back to stock until CM updates. That's what I did for 4.4.3. I was already in bootloader flashing the new modem, so figured I'd just flash the rest.

[Q] MIUI for Verizon HTC M8??

So a while ago, there was a post talking about whether anyone was interested in MIUI for the HTC One (M8). (this one). I was wondering if anyone has heard any more news on whether MIUI will be coming to this awesome phone any time soon. I can't even imagine the epicness that would come out of it...
That thread is for the M7, not M8. That said, I have no idea if anybody's working on it or not. Haven't heard a thing. Would be nice if we did get it though.
What's an MIUI?

It's a horribly buggy stupid ROM, in my opinion.

A visually appealing Chinese ROM that is pretty awesome when it works.

Miui Millet
I know most have tried the scaled down miui home launcher, but it seems there is another type called miui millet (miui lite) which is similar to miui home, but also provides the dialer, contacts, sms and of course the desktop and locker.
You can download it here:

Since I was the primary MIUI maintainer for Sprint Evo 3D and M7 (and have since moved to VZW M8), let me address this somewhat old question.
I will be doing a port to VZW just as soon as Xiaomi releases an international M8 ROM. I've been watching their release news somewhat regularly, but haven't seen anything just yet. In fact, I stumbled across this thread searching for possible other releases. Either way, I've got lots of practice porting to VZW M8 from Intl. version via my GPE port, so it's literally just a matter of waiting on Xiaomi.
As far as the comment about MIUI having a large number of bugs...not sure where you're getting your info from, but that's dead wrong. IMHO, MIUI is by far the best ROM I've every used.

I will be waiting eagerly! I too think MIUI is one of the best roms out there. It's the only Rom that I like as much as pure stock android... and that's saying something!:fingers-crossed:

Thank you! You have no idea how excited I am. I know how much blood, sweat, tears, and frustration goes into even writing basic code. I have no idea how hard it is to port a ROM, but I appreciate that there are awesome people like you out there that do it.
Any progress update? I've been waiting for a miui rom for a long time. So excited. Thanks!

Likely to roll out this week. 1st build can be buggy.

M8 to get Android L

According to HTC, the M7 and M8 will get the new version of Android within 90 days of release.

So at least by end of fall.
It's great that HTC makes this statement.. honestly though big red has been the reason for software delays for most devices. You never know maybe (very optimistic) they will change their ways. I know as soon as L drops the incredible devs here will improve it for this device.
Since there is a preview version it will probably be sooner than later.
Excited to be up to date. I've always had phones that were outdated at purchase and never received updates. Finally something nice.

we know HTC seems to be on their game for the GPE releases. So if they release L for GPE will that count for them releasing it within 90 days.
Also Verizon really drags their feet on updates.

yeah we will see MoonPie before we actually get this Lollipop
Excellent
This is great news... if only I had waited to get the GPE edition.
I really don't care how long Verizon or HTC delay the update, all that matters is when will the CyanogenMod team get the update? <G> That's when I'll get it.
How long until the devs can cook up an alpha release I wonder, since it's now downloadable for developers?

I know digital high spoke of trying to port it to his m8 Verizon gpe port today.

"So, I know I'm a space cadet, but I think I'd like to try merging the resources from the G5 image I'm downloading into GPE, see if we can't get our own approximation of Android L. "
That would be amazing!

What are your favorite features of L so far?
not a huge fan of the UI and colors
Just remember guys, whoever releases any builds of L, the dev release is an ALPHA build. Which means some stuff isn't gonna work. And if it doesn't, don't blame the dev's. There's already been a lot of people whining on androidpolice and other sites about apps not working, and other stuff not working correctly, and blah blah.

Agreed. I think a lot of people are going to bash the devs over things being broken. If there is even a port that boots it will be fun to mess with. I wouldn't expect a functional daily driver for at least two months.

The first ones won't even be alpha. What we will get at first will be ui elements put on top of kk. Also who knows how well the version of ART in the preview will play with the m8 in its current state.

Android L Now
Experience L now with the Verizon M8 GPE rom.
at the rate verizon holds back updates, i wont be surprised if the verizon m8 gets the L update and still doesn't have extreme power saving mode lol
