[Q] CM11 vs. 4.4.2 stock? - Nexus 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I just bought a Nexus 5 and I was wondering which is better: CM11 nightlies or just having rooted stock FW ..
Which one is faster? (bootup time, app launch times, smoothness)
And am I really missing any features when staying stock?

This http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=46344624
It's really up to you to decide which is better. Cm will probably have more bugs than stock but maybe they're ok for you

I prefer stock because of the difficulty of porting the Google Dialer with Caller ID by Google

I flashed just about everything and settled on stock. cm11, purity ROM, sanity, slim, you name it. Stock with xposed is great. On any custom ROM, I lost LTE and still don't know why. Gravitybox is just about the same as running a custom ROM, too.

I dont see much of a point in owning a nexus if you are just gonna throw Cyanogenmod on it.
Sent from my Nexus 5 using xda app-developers app

I would probably stick with stock if I didn't require voice+ app by cyanogenmod. Until hangouts come with full Google voice number support sticking with CM11.
CM11 really isn't that buggy with current nightly, it's incredibly stable. Also the fact that it's a continuous work in progress is plus. You never know when stock gets updates.
Other than that I would use paranoid android when that comes out or pacman.

Or like any other Android phone. Almost every major Android phone has Cyanogenmod ported to it. I don't personally understand the appeal of buying a Nexus phone to then throw on the same custom rom that you could run on literally any other Android phone. I guess if you are off contract and absolutely love Cyanogenmod for some insane reason. . . . .

As said on a non nexus the cyanogen team really shine, to be honest I'm loving cataclysm ROM at the minute. Close to stock but has just enough customisations for me

Yeah... not a big cyanogen mod fan, although a big fan of Carbon ROM so I guess I am?

hey guys, i am a bit late but finally i upgrade from sgs2 to n5. and stock-google-android seems to be slick and fast. but what i miss is customizable quick settings and detailed volume control, which i had with my beloved cm. would that be things that xposed can do for me? what are you guys using with your n5?

thx for your reply! i like cm very much. but i figured there would be the disadvantage that cm updates will take a little longer than google (which was the other way round with samsung). maybe this will change since google is sending out dev-previews of new major releases now.

I will never use CM again, and will stay away from CM variants if at all possible.
You're talking about 2-3 days here. If that worried about it, go back to stock until CM updates. That's what I did for 4.4.3. I was already in bootloader flashing the new modem, so figured I'd just flash the rest.

Hey Lets Vote For Official MIUI On Our Device

Even though we already have a working miui, official miui team is taking poll to make miui for another device official. An official release will mean less bugs and faster updates.

I've never understood the MIUI styling. Why anybody would want to make their phone look like an iPhone is beyond comprehension to me.

Stop comparing MIUI to iOS just because it has all the app on the launcher, MIUI is more than that..
+1 MIUI is NOT an iOS clone.. its way more..
stop judging and try it, see for yourself.. if you dont like use something else, dont ***** at the people that do use it lol
+1 me love MIUI

You guys just sit down and relax, i'm totally sure One S will have official support, because almost every above par HTC has it!
I hope we do. but miui tends to keep a lot of older devices and add the newer one later.
but we have a good head start with the unofficial rom, hope they are aware of that.
I find it hilarious and embarrassing how many phones were added to that list more than once...

That's the way MIUI has been doing all their official v4 releases. It's called patchrom. By doing it that way, they don't have to really on there being a developed aosp base, which can help the roms be released sooner. Downside is the zips are like double the size, and it's not an aosp ROM anymore

[Q] On the verge of rooting

Hey all: I'm a noob on the verge of rooting, but one thing is still giving me hesitation -- stability. I've heard complaints that some custom ROMs result in random reboots, for example, and I'm looking for an honest assessment from the community regarding problems such as this.

Why are you ckncerned with roms? u said u wanted to root....it doesnt affect anything if u dont use the new superuser priviledges it grants you....so theres no point in NOT rooting it (except for warranty void, but there are workarounds for this). The instability of roms is determined by...rom developers.
Enable usb debugging if u have problems with titanium backup. Facebook problems are probably a.problem concerning the other single user. Theres no point in worrying ablut root....what u should worry about instead is what u wanna do with root..and how.
Good roms for the s3 are rootbox and foxhound (most credited).
Cyanogen is not stable enough yet (hasnt even got developer options).

It is a bit bland, but I've gotten used to it. As much fun as it'd be to have all the bells and whistles of Cyanogenmod, PA, AOKP, and others, having a rock solid phone is just priceless. Everything works, and there are very rarely any random inexplicable issues. I use my Nexus 7 2013 for goofing around, so I still have something to be crackflashy with when I get in the mood.

I ran them on other phones, not here yet. But, once flashed they get boring quickly imho. I like the many features TW offers. Also read TiBu not working on 4.3. I'm not sure I can do without that. From a psychological standpoint anyway--
I still will try one at some point after they are a little more polished. Can't resist new roms--
Still on Wicked and waiting to see what evil does with that thread. There is a v6 in works. But, not sure it will appear on XDA. Hope so. I follow him on Twitter--
Usually there's an app comparable to whatever feature you're missing from the carrier version of Android or a mod if your phone is rooted.
Imo it's better that way to pick and choose what you want instead of a big ol block of bloat that you prob. only use 25% of and choke the CPU, memory and battery of your phone.

I've never really noticed a difference. I have a feeling it's one of those things that really doesn't make a huge difference on high-end phones.
I've tried to download omega about 10 times and it's times out or just won't install. I've tried a GE3 rom and agree it's to basic for me. The camera and the amount of debloated TW roms keep me quite happy for now. Customizing is the whole point of android and open source.

I found that the battery life on these GE ROMs aren't that great. That's why I came back to TW, and for the Apps2SD support, as well as TW camera.
I was using the 4.2.2 GE I customized myself, and although it worked really good, I have an issue in at my house where I live on the fringe of LTE coverage and needed to switch it to HSPA only when home. On TW based ROMs you can just use the *#*#4636#*#* and go into Device Information and switch it to "WCDMA Preferred", which works great. Unfortunately that code doesn't work on the GE ROMs. If someone knows how to do get into that menu with a code that works on a GE ROM I would love to know.
So I went back to a MF3 ROM that I customized and debloated myself. It runs really good, but I would much rather be using a GE ROM.
What I like about the GE ROMs is that it is the way Google intended it to be, but I will agree that it can be a bit bland. But being that Android is highly customizable, you can change it to whatever you wish.
If anyone wants to check out my Debloat list for MF3, here is the thread I made.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2398845
I was trying to get rid of the majority of the Samsung crap and make it as close to GE as I could and still maintain the TW backbone.
I find Touchwiz to be slow. No matter what ROM I try or how tweaked the tom may be, its always slow. Every time I switch from a GE ROM to w TWrROM, I always find myself switching back to the GE ROM after a few days. You just can't beat the speed!

Farewell, i9003 forum

Hi there! Most of you probably don't know me, as I'm not a developer/contributor, nor someone who writes a lot.
I just wanted to thank you for these two years full of new roms, themes and kernels, wich made me busy for hours, but then made my life easier. Why am I saying this? Because tomorrow will come my new device, and I won't be using my Galaxy SCL as my main device anymore (gonna leave it on the bench, just in case hehe).
I wish you all the best, and maybe in the near future some of us will be sharing devices again (that would be great)!
So this shouldn't be a GoodBye, but a See You Next Time!
Cheers!

Only thing thats REALLY irritating me is that I cant download any large apps using play store. It goes till 100% on many downloads then just never finishes and crashes. Tried multiple times reinstalling even 3 different roms but all based on JSS. I think JSS is the prob

Well, after a few days trying it, I reverted to CM10.2! It's true PSX rom is faster than any other rom I installed, but it lacks things.
As I'm still amazed by the speed nexus 4 opens everything in stock rom, I prefer relaying on a rom which I know would do the thigs I want

Is it just me or is there a real lack of different roms on the N4? Like on SL we have so many like S4 Rom, themed customized roms etc that look different from AOSP 4.3. All I see on Nexus 4 forums are AOSP based this and AOSP based that :/, theres like no themed roms, and this one cool transparent rom that was on 4.2 isnt going to be updated to 4.3 so I dunno. If you come across some cool roms for n4 give me a message

CM11 M4 Users?

I'm just curious, I don't see a lot of people really using the CM11 Roms here as much as I used to in the past devices that I've had.
Is there something I'm not seeing that others see?
What's your thoughts on the Snapshot releases on the Nexus?
I used to use cyanogenmod because it was so clean and had lots of options, but the last time i used it on my nexus 4 i saw it changed alot, looks more like an own os. I like roms like ParanoidAndroid, not bloated, very clean.

I actually like PA myself, used to use it alot as well, but there isnt much optimization in regards to customizing. I don't like using Xposed personally, so thats out of the question. I also like the themes.
I dont mind so much that it has slowly become its own OS, I just decided to give it a run today and I enjoy it for the 2 hours I've had it, but I guess I'm prepping myself incase I do like the OnePlus One.
Can a mod please move this back to general? It was supposed to be a discussion not a question...

Use the report button, however it looks like a question to me. More people frequent q&a than general too. I don't see a problem being here and it's closer related to here too.
