Since I only use the gallery app and never really use google's photo app, does anyone know how to uninstall/remove the icon from the app drawer?
Thanks

it's tied to google plus. disable that and photos should go away. don't you find though that the stock gallery app takes FOREVER to load? not sure what's going on with it. google photos load instantly but cm gallery takes like 20 seconds to populate for some reason...
Use Quickpic instead, it's way better than either of those.

lol I dont mind the slower load time...
I just hate having more then 1 app that does the same thing... pretty useless...
So I need to disable G+? how do I do this?

You need root to do that. Then use a root enabled file browser to delete the apk, or use an app like Titanium Backup to uninstall it. But, if you remove/modify system files any future OTA will fail to install, so you're probably better off using the freeze feature in Titanium instead of deleting the app.

ohh.. freeze/delete G+ app itself..

I've been curious about this as well for a while. Although, I assume if the widgets are installed as part of an app, then the answer would be "no". For example, IP Cam Viewer comes with like 6 different widgets with different sizes and layouts. I'll never use any of them, but I don't think I can uninstall them without uninstalling the app altogether. Can somebody please let me know if I'm mistaken?

I figured. Oh well. I guess it doesn't bother me that much. Thanks for the reply!
@nihn75, @simms22, @charesa39 Actually, you can delete them. Use Autostarts to disable whichever widgets you don't want and they will disappear from the drawer and homescreen long-press list.

Wow! Interesting. Thanks for the tip. So does this do the same thing as the Xposed Module, BootManager?

These apps disable the receivers. ROM Toolbox works as well.

Autostarts seems to disalbe most but there are still 25+ hanging around. Great start, thanks!

Between Autostarts and Rom Toolbox (Thanks @Aerowinder) you should be able to get that number lower.

Some widgets don't have separate receivers. You can't get rid of all of them, but most of them you can.
Hi
Seems like Google Photo's is hard coded to be the default picture viewer.
If you install something else you are not prompted to choose the new default as you would expect.
Disabling google photo's and trying to force new default doesn't work either.
Perhaps with future ROM?
Anything anyone achieved without root etc. till now? Thanks.
Reorienting back and recent keys seems like a no go either, what do people do to get round that?
Thanks for any tips already.

For remapping the buttons the app from Flar2 works.

Tryna different camera. Counterintuitive? Maybe. Probably. Definitely. But you will get the option that you want.
But this has ALWAYS been the case with HTC. I have installed the HTC camera app on other phones, and it was imperative to have the HTC Gallery app to be able to review the photos after they are taken. I know that it's a different gallery app that we are taking about, but I think have the Camera App is the real issue here. The app defines the default photos app.
I may be wrong, but that's something that I discovered a while back.

You could use a custom rom like leedroid, there you can define your favorite app for pictures and it will launch from the camera.
And you can use custom roms without root.

Sure I know about that, it was just a hint to the right direction.
There are some very good guides for it.
What if you sideload the old Gallery app?
If you want back the old HTC Apps try here

install htc album from apk mirror, then disable the google photos app. It should default to htc album then.
It should but it doesn't, and I don't know why... When I disable google photos and install htc gallery nothing hapens when I try to open photos from camera.
Any fix for this yet?
Would love to see a fix too!
I got around all the little issues with Photos by disabling that app.
Then got "QuickPic" from Google Play and made it Gallery app in it's settings.
Aggravation instantly gone. Works fine without giving an argument about everything.

on our rom you can pick any gallery app as preview album in the camera app.
I've tried many apps as I've never really used Google photos before and had no luck with any. But I've started to like it now. Especially since they added opening straight to albums in the settings.
Is there a way to change the default app (Gallery) that is used to view photos from within the stock camera app?
I've had to disable the stock gallery app, because it was causing issues with other apps, and have installed Google Photos. But when I try to view a photo after taking it the camera app says 'Unable to find application to perform this action'.
I can't find any option in the camera app settings.
Thanks.
there's alot of gallery apps on playstore, i suggest to use Simple Gallery app. cuz its clean, simple and ad-free.

Installed but still can't open/view photos from the camera app. I'm thinking that it's something that might be hard coded.

Oh well. Thanks anyhow.
I disabled "Photos" and installed another gallery app but when I take a picture with camera and try to quickly view it it just defaults back to the camera app. I have to go to my app tray, load my gallery program and get into the photo folder to see the picture. As you can imagine this isn't the greatest workflow
I see nothing in the system settings for a default app for gallery and I've never been asked to select one. If I re-enable Photos... it goes right to that from the camera app.
I must be missing something very simple or there must be something wrong??!?!
I'm pretty sure Photos is the OEM photo app for this phone, there is no separate gallery app. You an access device folders when in the Photos app.

I understand that photos is stock. On all other droid phones I've been able to install a different gallery app and have it take over as the system default. I'm looking for how to do that here.

Still struggling with this....
I feel your pain I have been looking for a solution for this without success for a long time.
When we click photos using our camera and click the pick icon it opens Google Photos. Is there any way to change it? To open that pic in other gallery?
You can try to go into the "app info" screen for the Photo's app and doing a "Clear Default".
But I'm thinking that Google might have hard coded the link to their own photo's app from within the camera app, so if the above setting doesn't fix it, then I don't think anything can.

Yeah the ''clear default' is greyed out. So maybe yes its hard coded :/
The camera preview doesn't actually take you to another app.
It might leverage code from another app or it might just look like it does.
You probably can't change it without changing the camera app itself.
I think this has been the case for all Android phones I've had.

I think when I did that on my last phone it just didn't do camera previews but the gallery app I had still worked.
