[GUIDE][SAMSUNG] HOW TO PERMANENTLY FIX THE Wi-Fi PROBLEM - Galaxy S 4 General

HOW TO PERMANENTLY FIX THE Wi-Fi PROBLEM OF YOUR SAMSUNG DEVICE- DESCRIPTION -This is a GUIDE on how to repair the Wi-Fi problem characterized by not having the ability to TURN ON the Wi-Fi after flashing:
1. A new firmware;
2. A new custom rom;
3. Anything else that may interfere with the /system folder of your device.- WARNING -This tutorial is based on the I9505 phone, but if you have this problem on another Samsung device you just need to find the specified BOOTLOADER and MODEM related to YOUR MODEL.- YOUTUBE VIDEO - To understand the whole process completely I have made an YouTube video, because I think it's a better way of understanding what you should or shoudn't do. Video is recorded at 1080p @60fps so it will take longer to process on YouTube, be patient, it will be worth waiting.
- EXPLANATIONS -THERE ARE 3 THINGS OVERALL THAT YOU SHOULD DO IN ORDER TO FIX THE PROBLEM:
1 - UPDATE THE BOOTLOADER - YOU CAN ONLY FLASH A BOOTLOADER THAT IS ONLY BUILT FOR YOUR DEVICE = S4 USES A BOOTLOADER, S5 ANOTHER BOOTLOADER AND SO ON;
2 - UPDATING THE MODEM - YOU CAN ONLY FLASH A MODEM THAT IS ONLY BUILT FOR YOUR DEVICE = S4 USES A MODEM, S5 ANOTHER MODEM AND SO ON;
3 - ONLY FOR ROOTED I9505 - YOU CAN ONLY FLASH THIS FILE ONLY IF YOU ARE RUNNING 4.4.2 OFFICIAL TW ON I9505. NO OTHER EXCEPTIONS.
Neccesary step - You need to edit the build.prop file of your phone with an app like Root Explorer, situated in /system folder and find the line containing ro.securestorage.support=true and change it to false then save the file.

You must have debug usb active in your phone. this driver need for use adb command example for root script or use MTP function.
2. Download firmware + flashing tool + drivers from here: May 7 Firmware With New System.img

7. After it is done, we are good to change the IMEI. However, before that try to turn on the phone to see whether the phone is working or not.
8. If everything is ok, excepted IMEI was missing, download IMEI Changer Tool from here: IMEI Changer For Mtk6575
9. Unrar, install the program and run SN_STATION, which can be found on your desktop. Follow the instruction in the Chinese manual, but we only need to follow the picture in that manual.
The file "Modem Database" and "AP Database" is in firmware folder. You need to choose exactly the file that you see in the picture.
10. Write down two IMEIs on the back of your phone ( you need to take the battery out to see it ).
11. Again turn off your phone and take the battery out, then plug the phone into your PC, but this time we need to put the battery back in very quickly as soon as we see:
"COM port searching and preloader handshake ok" on SN Writer Log.
11. Wait until "Write Result Indicator" becomes green, then the IMEI has changed successfully.
OR you can try to change your IMEIs by using ZOPO IMEI ( Thanks to colouriste )
1. REMOVE SIM CARD(S) FIRST !
2. Check "Dual Imei"
3. Type in original IMEI #'s 1 & 2 and then

If you are stuck at Booting Screen, please try those tips below ( For UPDATE 4 Only ): by zBeYuz
1. Did you forget to extract your system.zip in firmware stock 05 June folder ?
I just found out earlier that I totally forgot about it .
Just extract that file you will get system.bin then delete system.zip and start to flash the firmware normally. ( Booting up will take about 3-5 minutes after it is done ).
If the phone is still stuck please consider the next step...
2. One more thing to take note, I am using different flash tool from angelobiz:
You can refer how to flash with this flash tool here:

Tips + Tricks:
1. Thanks mikeysteele: "One thing I noticed after installing Set CPU is the kernel defaults to the Performance Governor. This means the CPU is always running at the maximum frequency so that might explain the poor battery life. I changed it to the On Demand governor and my battery life has improved."

FIGHTING !!!
Hi I would like to update some information about this phone,
1. The resolution of the screen is 800x480.
2. The original battery with 2800mAH capacity is so so, normal usage about 1 -2 days. On the battery stated that the cell made in Japan, yet finished in China.
3. The phone comes with the case with Samsung logo on it, together with a screen protector (not really good).
4. Additional infomation:
a) The front camera is on the left hand side, which is quite bad, because the Galaxy Note's is on the right side.
b) 3.5mm audio port is very depth, I have no idea why, so normal headphone or earphone like Beats Monster, for example, will be loose. But we still can use the one comes with the phone.
c) Camera is 8Mp and the picture looks quite nice if there is enough light.
d) It runs very smooth without any issues.
e) There is no touch pen.
f) Android 4.0.3 without Google Play or Market, Youtube, Google Map.
g) The camera sometime has a noise, like tac tac, when the apps need to use it ?!
At the end ? I still like it and I will try to update other good and bad points later if I can find any
*Update on 17/05/12*
h) After a long usage, the phone using original rom sometime can't rotate the screen even the "auto rotate option" was on.
--> Solution: Remove the battery and put in back in 30s, the phone will be functional as normal.

I received this same device today. It is not dual core, see: http://dualsim-smartphone.com/img/smartphone/i9220_mtk6575_dualsim_8.jpg
If any vendor claims it is so, what they are referring to is that it has both a 'normal' cpu plus a graphics chip. This is normal and its not the same as dual core!
Neither is the display qHD, as that would be 960x540. This device is 800x480. The display is... mediocre. I don't find the low density to be an issue, but a grainy texture is visible on light areas, e.g. the background in the Messaging app. Colour accuracy is also pretty bad: you get what you pay for.
FWIW I arrived here by googling DF-BPA-13 as I have the same issue. My temporary solution is to load apks onto the microsd on my old phone, then install those through "File Manager"
Thank you, guys. I will update my post above.
Btw, Does anybody hear anything about customised and rooted rom for this phone ?
To richardkemp, can you teach me how to recognize a dual-core phone ?
I thought all the mtk6575 phones were the dual-core phone.
Thanks in advanced.
@zbeyuz: The picture I linked above is from the link you provided in your first post. The first line of the results on the left hand screen shows "Number of cores: 1". Further the vendor correctly lists the chipset as the Mediatek MTK6575. Googling this might bring you (eventually!) to Mediatek's product page for this chipset. You can be sure that if it were actually dual core, the manufacturer would want to tell you about it: they mention no such thing.
Something I noticed while browsing chinese phone websites was that different sellers would provide different specifications for the same devices. Some would claim that a chip was dual core, by counting the presence of a separate main processor and graphics processor as if it was 'dual core'), and some would claim higher chip speed, e.g. 1GHz main processor + 500mhz graphics processor = 1.5GHz total. This is misleading and nothing more than a sales tactic.
It's a shame there's so much misinformation, the vendor I purchased my Haipad from marketed it as having an AMOLED screen, which it plainly doesn't.
As for ROMs, I'm gonna get stuck in to some ROM cooking once my exams are over, but that won't be for another month. In the mean time, I sure would appreciate any tips on getting root. To save anyone checking, SuperOneClick doesn't work.
Additional info on the device:
- Screen is capable of detecting 5 simultaneous multitouch points
- (In the UK at least) Network location does not work. Google maps cannot find my location from cell towers, or from my Wifi. GPS does work however.
- My device came without Android market installed, and as mentioned above, does not work once it is installed.
- Either the proximity sensor or the light sensor (top left by the front camera) flashes faint red constantly when the screen is on. Not a big issue but slightly distracting. The values reported by the prox sensor are just 0 and 1, no middle ground.
- The light sensor reports only 3 light levels: 160, 1200 and 2600. This makes automatic backlight pretty rubbish.
- The speed of the phone is fine - I will add some benchmarks later. Right now it's a pain in the butt since I can't get the benchmark apps from the market.
- WiFi signal seems weaker than I'm used to - my reference devices are my desktop PC, my Fujitsu ST5112 Win7 tablet, my (retired) HTC Desire, and my girl's Samsung Galaxy Y Pro and Asus Win7 Ultrabook. These all received moderate to good WiFi signal in my room from my WNDR3700 N router, all capable of streaming video at this distance. The Haipad on the other hand shows weak signal in the notification bar, and subjectively it is much slower than when it is downstairs nearer the router, a bit of a disappointment here.
- Lots of info on the device is available by starting the "EngineerMode" activity belonging to the "EngineerMode" package. This can be done by making a homescreen shortcut with a third party launcher (eg Nova), and choosing to add an activity shortcut. I recommend only look, don't modify any settings in case you break something!
- I don't know if it's just me but I find the overscroll elasticity way too 'loose'. If I flick a list hard and it hits the end, it takes a long time for the list to settle into the correct position. I look forward to being able to tweak this...
- The battery seems to charge quite slowly. I know it's large so getting to full charge would take longer than with a standard battery, but I am used to large batteies - I used a 2200mAh battery in my HTC Desire and I'm pretty sure it charged faster (using the same charger). Of course a factor in this will be that I have had the device active with the screen on almost constantly, so a lot of power is being diverted to that.
- My phone is capable of connecting to my network (t-mobile)'s proper 3G service, but seems to sometimes choose a 2G service instead, even when there is just as good 3G signal.
Will update this with more as I think of them.
zbeyuz, you say your camera is on the left, I presume you mean the front camera? the main/rear camera is right in the middle.
@richardkemp: Thank you for your quick reply. I did mean the camera in the front is on the left. The main camera is right in the middle, yes.
However, last time, when I tried to put on the Galaxy Note's case, the main camera didn't fit in the right position of the case. Maybe, because the screen was bigger than the real Galaxy Note's, I think ?
Update: The default browser of phone ran quite fast even there was a low wireless signal, but the browser didn't have back and forward button, is that right ?

This is from my seller and it works.
1.Please download root file on
www.t-kstore.com/4.0root.rar
2.Go to*setting-developer options-click USB debugging
3.Connect the phone with computer, turn on usb device.
4.Click the file you download from the link TPSparkyRoot.bat*
5.Your phone will restart first time, after the phone start finish(until you see the unlock),click enter in the window of TPSparkyRoot.bat.
6.The phone will restart second time, still the same as first time we did. Then start third time, same as we did in last two*times.Click enter, then phone was rooted.
7.You will see two more app was installed in your phone, that mean root phone successfully.
After successfully rooted, it will install rootexplorer.apk Chinese version which is rather useless for installing Market because it's all in Chinese. You should be able to find Filexpert.apk from the web, and install it.
Here is how to install Google Play Store:
1. Download Vending.apk from http://downloads.androidadvices.com/apks/Vending.3.3.12.apk
2. copy Vending.apk to \system\app\ folder in your phone by using Filexpert in RW mode
3. change permission of Vending.apk file to Read/Write for Owner; Read for others
4. shutdown your phone.
5. switch on your phone, you will see Google Play Store app, and enjoy!
Did anyone mange to get GPS working ? I tried with Google Maps, but fail.
Thanks a bunch bthoven. I took the liberty of tidying up the script a bit, and including the latest Google Play Store and an English root file manager (Filexpert, as you suggested).
I put it on mediafire: http://www.mediafire.com/?qnmvebaa3k8usjw
Same instructions as before, just extract the archive and run TPSparkyRoot.bat with your phone connected by usb cable, and USB debugging mode enabled. If you wish you can disable USB debugging mode once this process is done.
Beware that the play store I included is the mod version from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1582422, to allow you to access apps without region restrictions. In future we can properly set the phone's region in build.prop should remove the need for this temporary fix. That's for another day..

[Custom tar] Convert Galaxy Note 5 to S6 Edge+ w/o Play Movies breaking

Hello, before I begin I just want to state I thought of this idea to try and do something like this WITHOUT breaking Google Play Movies or rooting I was never able to figure out how to do it though after the 5.1.1 on the Galaxy S6 and when the Note 5 came out however I just thought of a different way to do it and I am bringing you my custom tar file that essentially "converts" the T-Mobile Galaxy Note 5 into a Galaxy S6 Edge+. Of course it doesn't do anything to the device physically. However this should give you all the S6 Edge+ features, by that I mean the edge screen features.
Thank you @durpflip for all your help!
I am NOT responsible for anything that happens to your device you are choosing to make these modifications to your device!
Bugs:
Saved WiFi networks are forgotten after every reboot.
Tell me if you find another one!
Once again this does NOT break Google Play Movies and is based off of the T-Mobile S6 edge+ and should only be flashed on the T-Mobile Galaxy Note 5. I understand you could just flash a ROM that does this already but have you tried watching something on google play movies with those? It doesn't work and it hasn't worked since the 5.1.1 update on the Galaxy S6 and when the Note 5 came out. This is a solution to that, with this Google Play Movies works no problem.
Step 1: Download the custom tar file from HERE
Step 2: Open Odin (I attached Odin to the thread see the bottom)
Step 3: Turn off your Note 5 and hold Volume down plus power and home at the same time.
Step 4: Press volume up when you get to the light blue screen to continue.
Step 5: Plug your phone into the computer and select "AP", in Odin and then find the custom .tar file you downloaded.
Step 6: Click start and make sure re-partition is not selected.
Step 7: Your phone should reboot when it is done.
Can someone please test if this trips KNOX I am not sure because I already had tripped KNOX when I tested it. It shouldn't trip KNOX but that is just me assuming things, I am not sure at ALL.
Don't blame me if it does trip KNOX if it doesn't trip KNOX that's awesome please tell me if so.
Is there a file to download? And I assume you have tried this yourself and it works right? What exactly is being flashed? is it the full S6+ Rom? If so - this is very dangerous as it would also include the MODEM right? If the modem is included in the file you flash in ODIN, it sounds like it would be an extremely dangerous thing to do - but hey - I don't know everything -
So is there a file to down load and please let me know if this includes the full rom for the S6+ including the modem, kernel - etc.
Thanks

Yeah there is a file I am working on getting it uploaded currently at 90%
Modem, kernel, etc taken from the Note 5 and tested on my own phone.
What about s-pen features? Are they there?
Adding the link now finishing up still at 99%...
EDIT: Finished! I added the link under "HERE" in the OP try it out!
I already tested it by the way.

No, but you can still use the S-Pen
Thanks You do know we can flash S6+ roms that will do the same thing!

Nope, all those break google play movies this does not break google play movies.
I may re-upload a zipped tar to reduce size later!

as far as i know,s-pen features are stored in one APK file. thus you could back up s-pen features via root privileges on a stock TW note and install them on the S6+ based ROM ethanscooter provides.
this is confirmed to work on my daily driver note 3,however i only owned the note 5 for a limited amount of time as i didn't find it to my tastes and therefore sold it.

Wifi settings edit:
(I used ES FILE EXPLORER for this so, that's what I suggest)
- Go to system/build.prop
- Find: ro.securestorage.support
- Replace the default true value with false

This is what you can do to fix the WiFi passwords being forgotten after every reboot, a little bit useless because rooting breaks google play movies which is what the whole point of this is.

that doesn't sound like much of a good solution since wifi settings are linked to the kernel (which doesn't seem very accessible on stock touchwiz)

I know but it's a temporary fix...
or you use root explorer go into system>libs> and search for liboemcrypto.so and change it to liboemcrypto.so.bak. that'll fix the issue with netflix streaming and google play movie. easier than flashing a whole new rom

Here is another way to fix nexflix and google play movies,
just flash this fix in twrp/philz recovery.
Here is the zip file fix in case you or anyone needs it:

[HALF-SOLVED]-Camera Firmware S7 - Downgrade

Hello everybody,
I currently have a camera firmware problem on a sm-g930F.
I just bought a new s7. It is under NOUGAT.
As Xposed is not yet compatible with NOUGAT, I decide to install MARSHMALLOW via ODIN.
Everything is going well...
After installing Xposed & Co, I decide to test the camera ...
The launch of the camera fails!
After consulting several post:
Update Camera firmware *#34971539#
Camera Firmware Help
I realize that the firmware of the camera is D12LSJD ****
And that the firmware used by the rom stock Marshmallow is C12LS ****** (Nougat stock = D12LSJJ **** = Functional camera)
Q1:
Is there a way to use the phone firmware of the NOUGAT version?
Q2:
Is there a way to downgrade the firmware of the camera?
What I have already tried:
Recover the firmware of the NOUGAT version:
Installation by Odin a ROM NOUGAT
Recover files under /vendor/firmware
companion_fw_imx260_d.bin
fimc_is_fw2_imx260_d.bin
These two files contain in the last line the version used by the telephone
Installation by Odin a rom MARSHMALLOW
Rename companion_fw_imx260_d.bin -> CamFW_Companion.bin
Rename fimc_is_fw2_imx260_d.bin -> CamFW_Main.bin
Create an empty file -> 1q2w3e4r.key
Put these 3 files at the root of the phone's internal memory
Type *#34971539# in the phone application (All buttons are enable)
Phone to Cam (Main) + wait + reboot
Phone to Cam (73CX) + wait + reboot
FW WRITE COUNT: Main (1) and 73CX (1)
Result:
Camera version: Always the same, no change.
Add firmware:
Installation by Odin of a rom MARSHMALLOW
Set the system partition to write
Copy companion_fw_imx260_d.bin to / vendor / firmware
Copy fimc_is_fw2_imx260_d.bin to / vendor / firmware
Reboot the phone
Result:
Camera version: Always the same, no change.
Replace the used files:
Replace in the ROM MARSHMALLOW the two firmware files by those recover under NOUGAT after renaming them
Result:
Phone Version (MAIN): null
Phone Version (73CX): none
I do not know what to do.
In NOUGAT version no problem because the firmware of the phone is superior to the firmware of the camera.
In MARSHMALLOW version the firmware of the phone is lower than the firmware of the camera.
Please help me
Thank you all.:highfive:
I would try to WIPE DATA/FACTORY RESET at Recovery Menu and reinstall FW afterwards.
Try also a different FW, download it at sammobile.com using the country it was first bought as filter
It's highly recommended NOT to downgrade FW. You might consider staying with NOUGAT and abandon Xposed ;p
I have already tried with other rom country. I have already done the steps mentioned.
It is out of the question to give up xposed.
.
I just managed to make the rear camera work with the Nougat .bin ... but not the front camera
With the original .bin file the front camera works but not the rear.
Half solution
As I said earlier,
With the /venoor/firmware/ files:
fimc_is_fw2_imx260.bin
setfile_imx260.bin
I can operate either the front camera or the rear camera.
With files from nougat, rear camera works (photos and videos)
With files from marshmallow (rom stock installed), front camera works.
So I created two zip files to flash using TWRP to alternate cameras under marshmallow with Nougat camera firmware (not phone camera firmware).
The solution is not optimal but has the merit of functioning ...
I almost never use the camera before so this solution suits me ... waiting for the compatibility of all my applciations under nougat.
Thanks to this gigantic forum for all helps !

Hello clemalex @ Friend Thank you: My english is a bit distressed sorry
-----------------------------------------------------
With the /venoor/firmware/ files:
fimc_is_fw2_imx260.bin
setfile_imx260.bin
--------------------------------------------
How to write these lines to phone
How to do these codes alone ?? I will write with a terminal emulator ? pls help me thank you..
Hello.
Is there any news regarding how to change the firmware on g930f?
Thanks
Any new Solution?

Does this solution require root? I downgraded to use Knox and I need to stay on 6.0.1 but camera fails but the solution I'm looking for can't be via root

Good stuff! Just so I understand (I'm trying to do this with my S7 Edge SM-G935FD), you are copying the original files to /system/vendor and putting-in the blank 1q2w3e4r.key file, correct? Is that all it takes to allow the grayed-out buttons in the camera firmware flasher to appear?

So, by placing those three files in the /sdcard folder I was able to make the "Default FW Write (73CX)" button to be active. When I press it I get a confirmation box to "Update Firmware", followd by a "Now Updating..." screen. After about 2-3 minutes it is finished with a "F/W dump complete" screen. However, when I go back and check FW versions, nothing has changed. I'm doing this on the S7 Edge, so I don't want to try the zip files provided. Has anyone else had luck doing this?
I never succeeded to downgrade camera firmware... but follow post 4 follow the procedure to find files from your own phone and it should be able to work

First of all I would not have flashed the Galaxy S7 camera firmware to a Note 7
Go to your Note 7 forum and hope that someone has the correct firmware / unbrick method, and next time read what you are about to flash and make sure it's for your device...
I actually solved this on my phone. I downgraded my S7 (bootloader SW rev 2) from O to MM (for reasons), using Oreo BL and CP, and MM AP and CSC odin flash files. Only one of the cameras could be made to work, as described by OP, using one of the zip files provided by him. *#34971539# would show the camera firmware version as D12[something] and the phone FW version as C12[something]. I have the feeling that newer android can access both a C12[something] AND a D12[something] firmware file at the same time and therefore operate both cameras: in newer android versions there are both a fimc_is_fw2_imx260.bin and a fimc_is_fw_imx260_d.bin in the /system/vendor/firmware/ directory. The versions can be read using "tail -c 11"; the imx260.bin file is version C12[something], the imx260_d.bin is version D12[something] (at least on the original rom that happened to be on my phone that time). The C12 file is needed to operate the front cam, the D12 is needed to operate the rear cam; the zip files by OP install the D12 files to make the rear cam work but break the front cam.
The MM kernel has some code for flashing the camera firmware rom ("FROM") (see /drivers/media/platform/exynos/fimc-is2/vendor/mcd/ files fimc-is-sec-define.c and fimc-is-sysfs.c, in particular the functions called by accessing the "from_write" sysfs entry), but it is buggy and probably a rudiment from earlier versions when this was actually something people could do. I think the code is not functional as it is now, but I was able to modify the kernel and recompile it to a point where I could flash the FROM dump from another S7 I had access to (which had MM and both cameras working). The process involved a lot of trial and error and was quite involved, and I don't know if anyone besides me is left who cares to downgrade an S7 to MM, therefore I won't go more into more detail here. If someone does need this, PM me or post here, but expect this to be complicated and risky.
Just a warning: I am reasonably sure that the imx260.bin files found in the /system/vendor/firmware/ directory are not meant to be flashed to the camera rom, so please don't do any renaming to CamFW_Main.bin etc., as described in some threads relating to older phones. If you succeed in flashing this to the FROM you will just overwrite the data that is actually supposed to be there and the cameras will both stop working.

Newest Stock ROMs,Tutorials,Root,and Rom Modder - Ufirm_Hybrid_S7active_Nougat

25.04.18 .. just a quick warning for newcomers !! YES Oreo is out there to try via OTA
BUT use the U2CRC7 or U2CRC8 these will be MUCH safer
(using U3CRD1 , or U3CRD4 you need to be REALLY careful, as you are updating the bootloader too (from v2, to v3)
which if you then get into a bootloop for whatever reason, you cannot use ODIN to get out of it as they are all bootloader v2 .. and thus you will be stuck untill one becomes available ! )
###
Ok first public release of a S7active Rom Modder ....
(this version is for ROOT only and was adapted from this Ufirm )
### Download links, for people who dont wanna read !
My Mega Folder
which has Stock Odin files PI2 andQD4, also a OTA zip folder with (numbered) files up to newest QL6 (20.01.18)
eng_boot files to flash in odin for root enabling,
and Rooting scripts ..
Newest Link to my Rom Modder, UFirm_Hybrid_S7active_Nougat_V3f.zip
you can also use this Link to a Russian download site that also keeps updated with all of the above too (with unnumbered OTA update files that gets confusing)...
https://cloud.mail.ru/public/BGy7/gKs4xzhRE/
And this link is to the official AT&T site,
that lists the most recent baseband version release, and when it was released (so this will also be upto date, even when this post isnt!)
### THIS Tutorial gives you ....
Fresh Stock Nougat (either upgrade or degrade or start again to V6/v7)
Root (with governor select, fingerprint fix, busy box installer)
BOOT Animation select; Samsung,Pixel,NoNaMe,Echoe + Sund on/off selectable to
Advert blocker installer; Adaway (with an app), or opensource list
S8 App installs; all selectable; camera, browser, launcher, fonts, clock/calendar SHealth, Bixby etc etc
Google Apps; Pixel launcher, dialer, camera, clock, calender etc etc
Dual speaker mods
Custom Mods/apps; XDA, Hometouch, Viper4Android, Solid Explorer, Nova Launcher,Cerberus, smartswitch, Torch toggler (these are all Play-Store versions, just selectable to embed within Rom (as systemApp))
and then a Debloater; a completely manual option, or a network debloat only (including bookmarks contacts etc), or a simpler BS level, or a 'playstore' style strip of apps leaving you with bare essentials
Works on ALL Nougat versions with Root, via Flashfire.....
but works best following steps below to start from a fresh stock odin flash (so you can start from any level then)
Of course all the normal caveats, do a backup, make sure phones charged up... etc etc etc
### So If you are on Marshmallow(Android v6), this Upgrades to Nougat(Android v7) OR if you just want to start fresh
Step 1. - Use Odin PrinceComsyModified and load up all 4 files from this complete G891AUCS2BQD4_7.0_all Nougat QD4 package
can only flash when in download mode (thats from phone switched off, then hold home+volume then hold power)
After thats finished, phone reboots to the setup wizard thingy, your now back to fresh stock Nougat... (no real need to go through this setup wizard yet really)
Step1a. - If you want to get up-to-date to a Higher Firmware NOW is the time, via OTA zips, in the standard recovery QD4-QF2, then QF2-QG1 at present ...
OTA-UPDATE folder
Step1b. - Get those updates on the SDcard, boot into standard recovery (thats with phone powered down, press and volume up+Home, then the power button)
Step1c. - Select update from zip/sdcard (volume butons to scroll, power button to select)
Step1d. - wait for it to finish, it DOES take ages, once it has, start the next one etc etc ...
### So once on Nougat get root with
Step 2. - G891A_7.0_ENG_ROOT , flash in Odin (in the AP placement) when in download mode (fire up download mode with, phone switched off, home+volume then hold power)
that gives you root availability.
Step3. - Nougat_S7_Root_2_82_All_Carriers_V2, once rebooted, and now back at the setup wizard thingy,
Run root.bat from this zip and follow on screen prompts (will erase fingerprint patterns if you select it!), select CPU governor you want
Ondemand is the prefered for overall performance, and Conservative for best battery life..... this will follow on and Install flashfire too
So that gives you fresh Nougat, and Root. stop here if thats all your after !
### or if you are already Rooted and in Nougat
Step4. - Download my Ufirm_Hybrid_S7active_Nougat_V3 and transfer to the sdcard of ya s7active *** New version 01.08.17 Ufirm_Hybrid_S7active_Nougat_V3f
Step5. - Open up Flashfire (install from playstore (its by chainfire) if your starting from this step) it checks root (go back to step 3 if it fails) partitions etc etc then agree with all the normal stuff ..
select the 'plus' icon bottom right, choose 'flash zip or ota', and select Ufirm_Hybrid_S7active_Nougat_V2 that you copied over in step4
you dont need to select anything on this pain..
make sure EverRoot is disabled .. (just click it and untick it if it is)
scroll down a bit i expect, and hit the big FLASH button ! ...
after a couple minutes of black, and scrolling stuff, and the red flashfire banner, you are set at Aroma...
Step6. - now in 'Aroma follow the onscreen prompts
you can select no wipe, no reroot, no bootanimations mod, no ads, no s8 mods, no google mods, no speaker mod, no custom mods, and no debloat... and nothing with change ...
or can select selectivly... and have stripped out, google apps, and pixel launcher, with lots of new apps, viper, etc etc ...
so its very option friendly from here
but if your going to elect s8 mods, or the playstore mods, then a wipe is best (of you will have to select to clear cache/data on the apps one back up and running to prevent closes)
Step7. - Come back here and thanks us all and let us know of any improvements or bugs
this of course doesnt trip knox, and all buttons work, as not much system files are touched really ...
PLEASE let me know how you get on ! ....
and A BIG Thanks to jrkruse, CVertigo1, FtaWolf, Arteush, echeo rom team for the mods, NoNaMe team, ViPer4A team
and a especially big thanks to activefan01 as with out him we STILL wouldnt have root !!!
and the many many many other people on this forum who post so i can trawl through and learn and the ones ive hassled.
### FAQ
Q: Do i need to do a wipe to try this ?
A: no, you dont NEED to wipe, or to odin, or to select AP in flashfire to try it.. Just be careful what you select, and BACKUP 1st like you are going to wipe !....
But wiping is a good way to get a real clean stripped out stock look, if you re-install fresh with Odin first and wipe
Q: Do i need to Root after running this ?
A: No, you can select "No change" , and it will keep its root status from Step3 Root procedure,
this option will install busybox, as Viper4A needs it, also adds improvements to device.prop too(config.tima) and is there so you can change the CPU governor or redo Fingerprint fix again (Its from the 2.82 install)
and for IF we ever get this working via stock boot.img !
Q: Can i run this multiple times then to swop things around, or try/add different Mods out ?
A: Yes, Yes you can... if you wanna JUST run this again to install, Nova launcher then select the right options, and thats ALL this will do
hell select the right options and this script does nothing !
Q: So could i use this to JUST debloat my phone ?
A: Yes select the right option, and it will only do a network debloat, and install nothing
Q: Will this trip KNOX ?
A: No
Q: Is the G891A_7.0_ENG_ROOT file different to the one already released ..
A: No its the same, just put it on here to keep it all together
Q: Is the Root Nougat_S7_Root_2_82_All_Carriers_V2 file different to the one already released
A: No its the newest one ATM, just put it on here to keep it all together (i did change the exit to a pause at the end so you can review if it worked )
Q: Do i have to use the Ufirm zip thingy to keep root ?
A: No this just a Rom modder, so it adds, and takes stuff away that you select onscreen
Q: can i just keep stock ?
A: Yes Step1 will give you JUST a clean stock nougat, NO mods nothing...
Q: Can i use OTA zips to update this later?
A: Not in the normal/stock over-the-air via AT&T network method no, as the eng_root, and system file are detectable, and it will error out (but wont break anything)
A2: Also not via the 'stock' recovery either, as of above, you using the eng_root, which doesnt support DM-Verity so it doesnt let you use SDcard or ADB (but again wont break anything trying)
A3: what about via flashfire ? Nope, also fails due to miss matches of files detected via OTA script..
Q: Can i use the OTA files to update to the newest ROM version first ?
A: Yes course, start with newest Odin flash (QD4 at the mo) then use the OTA increment update files, then load the Ufirm modder if you want, or not your choice !
Q: Can i install OTA updates WITHOUT causing the update to wipe everything everytime !?
A: Yes you can, you HAVE to watch it update and STOP the update script procedure when you see "script succeeded: result was [/system]" and then Immediately press and hold Power + Home + VolUp + VolDown.
as found/posted by Mike_1996 here on this clicky link
Q: Can we not just install TWRP or other recovery and use that ?
A: No the bootloader is locked, and we cannot change recovery at all. (not even the standard S7 has this either (well only the japan version !))
Q: Well ive used this and ROOT and it stuppidly slow
A:Yes it can be a little slower, especially at first, it can settle, but the ROOT method we have is to use the engineering files, and they effect speed...
you can read through this thread, as there are 'some' tips, but ultimately, yes it will be slower at times !

Very excited to see that the thread is started!!
Again, great job dude!
Any big things noticed since 24 hours with BS debloat with all S8 tweaks and the stock CSC which is powerful to delete all AT&T smudges... but I will still try a CSC of european S7 since I live there. (For the network preference?)
Only big battery draining with the engineering kernel... With all power save tweaks seen in the root thread.
I think the stock kernel portability should be a priority.
Perhaps an option to disable the startup sound, by deleting /system/media/audio/ui/PowerOn.ogg.bak
And modifying ro.config.tima to 0 in build.prop to fix shealth since it have to be deleted and reinstall to work.
If I'm not mistaken..! This is the way I use to make it working..
Oh. Great job.
do You get screenshot rom ?

Thankyou
-what things does the Euro CSC have thats beneficial ? could incorparate it, plus im in Europe too !
-Stock portability im looking into to, have finally worked out how they do it (managed to get reply from jrkruse)
-need to look into it more to see if its possible on the active, as its BL is v2, and the standard s7 is v4
but its to do with the mix match of gsm and cdma ... so Bootloader section is invovled, so would be risky !
-Will se what i can impliment for bootup sound, and will sort out the build.prop ...

Thankyou, no need for screenshots really, its not really a rom that changes much to look at, more of a debloater, and standard mod/launcher installer ...
soo looks either very minimalist stock, with choice of s8 apps, or as you want it via google apps, or/and novalaucher etc ...

Like I expected use a CSC from European S7 works perfectly and add features in network, location and probably others nice things!
There is an aroma with lot of CSC for S7 in the forum, If it moded to allow a flash into S7 Active, it will works. I will contact the author.
Ok! I contact some people too for information about the tweaks to keep stock kernel.. we will see!

do you have a link to forum of the CSC for S7 ? ...will take a read...
an the main place that explained how to keep the stock kernel is here....
https://forum.xda-developers.com/verizon-s7-edge/development/rom-t3569416/page15
and he says later on... "It's not the boot.img it's the dm verity process of the cdma firmware when gsm firmware is flashed over the top of cdma firmware. That's why in every case you have to start on cdma firmware it doesn't have to be Verizon"
so my understanding would be .. we would need to flash a, Verizon NON-HLOS.bin BL with the pit file ? (so thats the cdma firmware) which is risky ! as this may brick our device due to missmatch bootloader etc !?
Root, then run my mod, then once all the CSC, symlinks etc etc are back in place, flash back our own AT&T NON-HLOS.bin(the GSM) ....
but need to gather those NON-HLOS.bin's from the correct versions, mainly a AT&T one, and compare the actives to a standard G930A, IF they the same, then we MIGHT have a chance !?

-what things does the Euro CSC have thats beneficial ? could incorparate it, plus im in Europe too !
-Stock portability im looking into to, have finally worked out how they do it (managed to get reply from jrkruse)
-need to look into it more to see if its possible on the active, as its BL is v2, and the standard s7 is v4
but its to do with the mix match of gsm and cdma ... so Bootloader section is invovled, so would be risky !
-Will se what i can impliment for bootup sound, and will sort out the build.prop ...

i cannot get viper4android actual get the drivers installed proper, sayd they installed, reboot, and they download and install again, its like it cannot get drivers to stick ..
plus need to to sort out manual debloater options better ...
gonna try get echoe converted next.. as i wanna see if gearVR works on it !

Have you tried selinux mod changer to make the drivers stick? Had to use it on my old HTC 626s.(v4a)
Hi, i flashed the s8 dual speakers mod and it works great! Music, ringtones, all work with dual speakers. But I noticed in some games like Mobile Legends none of the speakers work. I also read the original thread on the last page that some users also reported that the dual speakers mod doesnt work in some games. Do u have the original mixer_paths_tasha.xml file so that i could restore it back to single speaker please?
I just hardbricked my S7 Active by trying to reinstall the stock kernel....
It doesnt start, doesnt want go in download mode or anything... while I havent touch to FBL SBL so logically it should be able to go in download mode but it doesnt want.
I try JIG USB but it doesnt help since battery need to be removed...
If anyone have another idea?
Be more carefull than me and don't flash anything... But I still think that it is possible to keep stock kernel after modding.
I will use the guarantee. So I can't help for few weeks...
If someone wants to try, follow the tutorial, apply all mod you want and finaly just flashing the stock kernel from flashfire (only original boot.img in a tar file) with selecting recovery mode reboot. It will show an error, after that select mount system/ then wipe cache and reboot.
See you soon!
ouch ... its pretty hard to hard brick them, using stock stuff...
ive been messing around with lots of messed around boot.img initially and i never bricked it, LOTS of blue screens, and warnings !
what was battery charge at ?? as they dont seem to charge when in bootloader/recovery
so if it gets into bootloops and fall asleep say and dont notice, you may get stuck ...
i was VERY close to doing this... once i woke, realised and reflashed something so it boots, i was at 2% !!! i started at 80%ish
so be cateful bootloops drain it quicker, and can make phone get real hot, especially when ya fall asleep at ya desk as coding all night !
i dont see how flashing stock boot.img would brick it too,
unless it didnt flash properly ? as it checks image for checksums/hacks before commiting it to memory..
so worst would be boot loops...
only way to brick i would of thought is mess around with the BL section in odin.... as bootloaders can bugger it !
maybe leave it on charger over night, and then try get into bootloader ??

I could be wrong but to me it sounds like he applied mods and then tried to return to stock BL; obviously that isn't going to work but I'm very surprised that you can't just reflash?

indeed, would just result in boot loops ...
on a different note, now uploading new version 2.1
Fixed viper4android, NoNaMeMod, and added return to single speaker mode, bootanimation sound select, plus redone the manual debloat section so its more suited to our actives ...
also looked into csc, and its gonna be better if you just run a dedicated CSC swopper .. like the one here

CSC swapper is ok to run via Flashfire?
I thought you had to have TWRP.
Downloading 2.1 now, very excited. You've achieved a great deal here, Miniminus and should be very proud of your efforts.
I'm super pleased to have root + a few goodies on Android 7.0
Have to say even with Eng kernel, 7.0 rooted is way smoother and less buggy than root on 6.0 (especially with all your tweaks applied). But, I am still missing the battery life I was able to achieve in 6.0 Root with a few xposed modules and deep hacks configured. Under 6.0 I managed to get it to the point I would lose about 2% battery overnight. Under 7.0 I lose about 20% per night no matter what I do.
Still, battery life is decent compared to all my other devices and the dual speaker mod + viperx etc absolutely kicks arse.
Bluetooth is broken for some reason on version 2.1. Admittedly I did not check this on 2.0, but in current release applied with full wipe + all S8 cmods + heavy debloat it simply does not turn on.
Also, wifi keeps losing my settings as it did with the original root process. I can't remember how to fix this but I know it can be done.
I'm having the same issue after flashing v2.1 . Everytime i restart my phone, the wifi settings get reset. I have to manually key in my wifi password again. Bluetooth doesn't work when I tap the icon, Device maintenance is missing from settings, and the blue light filter is also missing..

Thankyou have spent way to long on it, and i was only trying to get the GearVR going on it, of which i STILL cannot do, think its locked via kernel
csc 'should' work ok in flashfire, althou messing with csc is risky as it messes with efs partition ...
20% overnight is pants ! im defo getting over that, but i havent had simcard in me phone for a bit ...
whats it saying the most drain is in battery usage ?

hmmm which s8 mods you got selected ? as bluelight and wifi and device maintenance are ok here ... so the script is ok, must be one of the modules, and im gonna guess at a s8 one ! ..
but can confirm my bluetooth isnt working either, not noticed before .. will have to try pin it down to an action thats been carried out will have to go one by one !!!!
so clean install, and select nothing .. see if anything breaks etc etc
device manager i think gets messed with with the s8 browser ..
im out today so will look tonight ..
Hmm i didnt install any s8 mods as the system UI crashed the first time i tried the s8 mods. But my firmware before i flashed ufirm is qf2 june patch.. and i chose manual debloating including AT&T apps, ANT apps, and most of the samsung bloatware
Is there any log information that we can provide to try and track this ***** down?
Cheers

Not really, Once you install an OTA, The Active boot partition switches to the opposite one to boot the new firmware.
If you have Root + TWRP, I find this messy because then you have to manually patch the boot images, and it is usually after a few bootloops and softbricks. There is an option in Magisk, Install to inactive slot. That doesn't work always, at least during my ROG II and ROG III days.
Good thing about the RAW files, They do a clean install without wiping, and you can set it up easily afterwards with the usual magisk and patch steps without losing userdata. For a firmware upgrade I always prefer Raw files.
I actually found a RAW file from a usual source I used to get these, But surprisingly this version is not available in the ASUS site. Its about 3 digits below the current one.

Well... I can at least take some of your worries... OTAs won't be a thing after you unlocked your bootloader. You need to manually install them via magisk again. So there is no chance these automatic updates will break your phone.
Furthermore you don't have to worry about root + TWRP as well because there is no twrp for this phone and I doubt there will be one in the next time.
But applying updates and keeping root access without loosing your user data should be no problem. Magisk has special options for this and many people here update that way without bootloops and soft bricks.

I think you completely misunderstood my comment. I was saying that if the firmware for both models is the same, it is likely the raw files for both are the same (but still separate from the firmware).
In addition to what was already pointed out above, you have things backwards. The RAW firmware is intended to be a low-level rebuild. The regular firmware is not an incremental (which I assume is what you were thinking) and comes will a full firmware image every time.
Edit: The version from this thread now includes a separate flash_raw and flash_raw_and_wipe command.

RAW never wipes data. I've done it for almost 2 years in my ROG II.
That's how I usually update my firmware.
Unless something is changed in ROG 5 ... If yes, Then I'm wrong.
I'm yet to test all these anyway, Since unit is still on the way.

Then apparently it has changed. I didn't have a ROG II, but I have the ROG 5 in hand. I couldn't tell you what has changed, though.
You can, however, opt out of the erase. Not sure if you have to convert the raw to images first, though. I think that would be the method you used in previous phones. It was a flash_all script (or command, if you were on Windows).

Ohh .. In that case I was super wrong, and apologies over my misinformation.
Yeah, Actually ROG II Raw files had a Flash-all file which installs the full firmware, and reboots.
I even had a source (A Persian website) to get these when the OTA releases.
I was on windows, and usually after a RAW installation, the cache (Art or Dalvik, Whatever it is we have now) gets cleared and Phone becomes a little bit snappier than it was before.
Guess we gotta stick to ASUS OTA files from the support site then.
Thanks a lot ! : )
These updates come with a flash_raw script that looks more or less harmless. There is no visible wipe command included, but the phone did appear wiped after installing.
The flash_all, on the other hand, has a rather obvious section to opt in or out of an erase that opting out on Linux and Windows. I think the wipe isn't as much a wipe as it overwrites the partition.
I typically install my firmware with fastboot using a slightly modified version of the flash_all script and an unpacked payload. Somehow I broke the installer, which gives me a chance to test the raw again.
Edit: The version from this thread now includes a separate flash_raw and flash_raw_and_wipe command.

I thought that rumor died long ago. Usually unless things go wrong clearing the cache should not make your phone faster.
It's like closing all apps/recents after each usage in order to boost the performance.

I think Art broke that. If I remember the explanation, the idea was to create something like the old odex layout that was less sloppy. The code that used to be cached is now broken out into a physical file alongside the application. It's also how apps like *that one everyone remembers for IAP* are able to modify code without breaking signatures.

The RAW firmware I shared earlier - I didn't test it since it's a downgrade.
If the current firmware gets a RAW release, I will definitely test it.
Currently I patched only Boot Slot_A and booted to system using A. (using the same patched image I updated in OP)
Since there is no TWRP, I dont want to manually patch A and B both.
Magisk is stable, Didnt pass SafetyNet - So might need a module for that.

You do need a module. It's posted in one of the root threads. I guess we won't know if you need different boot images until someone tests, but at least you seem to be comfortable patching your own.

Glad you found it. Good luck.
I flashed the raw firmware. It was a downgrade and my device was already set up and in use, but it included the scripts and commands to install without a wipe (finally). Moving the latest firmware to the sdcard allowed me to update almost immediately after finishing the flash.
I would assume it works on the Ultimate, since everything else has been identical and the date on that package is the same as the software image.
New update !
