Lollipop has silent mode. It's called None.

None also mutes alarms so not really.. "Priority" is silent mode, but with the extra feature of letting you choose apps that can bypass it. If you never set an app to priority then its the exact same as silent.
All = normal
Vibrate = Vol down to zero and it'll only vibrate
Priority = Silent mode but extra feature letting you choose specific apps to bypass it
None = new mode with absolutely no sound/vibration for anything including alarms

specific contact never on mute

I like to keep my phone on vibrate when Im home. The thing is, there is one contact that I always gotta answer to. Always. Is there a way for me to get my phone ringing when he calls even if the phone is on vibrate or silent mod?

If you install Lightflow
you can set up a profile for that contact to override vibrate/silent mode and volume/ringtone etc

I don't have CM ROM I use stock, so unless anyone else knows any options for you that's the only one I can think of off the top of my head.

The funny thing is: I can put my Nexus 9 into silent mode but not my Nexus 5. And yes the Nexus 9 has also vibration mode.
So i consider this as a bug. Its possible with my Nexus 9 but not with my Nexus 5

I haven't seen that on the Nexus 9. If it's possible on there, maybe Google just needs to update it on the Nexus 5.

[Q] MOD/App to get rid of the new "priority" modes and "Heads up" notifs.?

[Q] MOD/App to get rid of the new "priority" modes and "Heads up" notifs.?
Hi, since we have android L we have the new None/priority/all modes for notifications, we can't decide whether to disable sound but keep vibration, disable sound and vibration or keep them all on as in previous android versions...
Also, sometimes the Heads-up notification system is very annoying.. for example while gaming or writting in horizontal mode...
Is there any mod or app to customize this?
I just want the old system
Yea it's called cataclysm rom

It seems that we would have to wait till 5.1 arrived. Google simply forget what is the point of an alarm.

New modes are bull****, the old way was better...
I suggest the old way plus (apps that sound or vibrate even if you have silenced the device)...

Its the same as the old way. The only difference is renamed strings, addition of app-specific whitelist functionality for silent (Priority) (which you don't have to use and can just use it as silent), and a new mode called None that silences everything including alarms. Oh and option to let you automatically unsilence after x hours. Nothing else has changed.

We know that, Lethargy. We are looking for the way it won't work like at your description.
The main problem (for mine opinion) is that we can't use this new settings, because there is not option to exclude an alarm from None mode.

Cataclysm is stock rom with mods. Exactly that. I think it has 5 modified files off stock rom making it what it is

how to permanently make phone not able turn turn on airplane mode? i want to make one phone not able to turn on airplane mode? what paid app? settings

I want to make one phone not able to turn on airplane mode. what app do i need buy to do this? is there a setting i can use or script?? if airplane mode gets turned on i want to have it auto turn itself back on immediately.
thanks in advance
What is the purpose?
It only turns on if you toggle it.
Seems needlessly redundant.
Well your phone auto turn on airplane mode?

Sounds deliberate. Perhaps they aren't old and/or responsible enough to have the privilege of a phone.

Remove their smartphone privilege, give them dumb phones. Gotta make them respect you as a parent

You're not likely to outsmart them when it comes to this sort of thing. If you can do it on their phone, they'll find a way to undo it.

Just give them your old Nokia 3310.
Or you can buy some crap phones
Well set a lock screen, and see if they will factory reset it.
Always backup first. Maybe they already know how to enter android recovery mode.

Lol, I survived childhood and half a century with no smartphone.
Maybe they just want some quiet time and space. Regardless of what you do they will get it... free will and hormones are a potent mix.
Being available 24/7 isn't a blessing, it's a curse.

IMO this only can be achieved on a phone with rooted Android running a related looping service in background mode.
Example code
Code:
// read the airplane mode setting
boolean isEnabled = Settings.System.getInt(
getContentResolver(),
Settings.System.AIRPLANE_MODE_ON, 0) == 1;
// toggle airplane mode
Settings.System.putInt(
getContentResolver(),
Settings.System.AIRPLANE_MODE_ON, isEnabled ? 0 : 1);
// Post an intent to reload
Intent intent = new Intent(Intent.ACTION_AIRPLANE_MODE_CHANGED);
intent.putExtra("state", !isEnabled);
sendBroadcast(intent);

Question Do Not Disturb

Ok guys and gals, I'm having a issues with my do not disturb turning on by itself. Here is a picture of my settings. I do not have schedule activated. Is anyone else having this?
Hey there,
Has it always happened?
I am running a schedule to turn on Do not disturb... and it works great. Maybe you previously had a schedule and it is still running by that schedule even though it is off now. Have you noticed when it turns itself on?
For me as well works grea...
Check bedtime mode settings. Maybe that is setup. Does the same thing.

does it turn on when you start the navigation via google maps?
Ah, just had the same problem flagged on the Samsung Community. Does it get activated while in the car?
If so, Settings : Google : Personal Safety : Silence Notifications While Driving : Yes/No
