FTF files are basically just zip files.
The folder it came in is a compressed folder. It seems you have extracted the contents from it. Make sure you have not hidden known file extensions in the windows options.
If not, just rename the folder to end in .FTF and it will be fine.

Yup, rename the entire folder to .FTF and It will flash just fine.

Are you sure it was a file and not a folder you renamed....
When you download the file do not open it, just move it to the firmware folder

When I try to download it through Xperifirm I get the same problem but it doesn't come as an FTF file. It needs to be to work with PRFCreator.

Check the contents of the zip file, if it contains a .ftf file inside it you have to extract and use flashtool to flash it.
If it contains an updater-script then its probably a recovery flashable file, which means it won't work using flash tool.
If you rename and try, you most probably will get an error from the flashtool.
But i doubt its possible to brick your phone that way though
it contains .sin files and meta-inf folder

[Q] convert a FTF ROM to a ZIP ROM

I think that in order to customize a ROM it needs to be in ZIP format, right?
At least in ZIP format I was able to browse the contents of ROMs while in FTF it didn't work with 7zip, or at least the contents are not easily readable.
So, can anyone help me converting FTF to ZIP? I'm on Windows 7.
I tried a tool called F2Z but it didn't work with my Sony Xperia Miro FTF ROM file.
Thanks in advance.
Cheers

1. Open .zip with WinRar or 7zip. Extract system.sin
2. Use the sin extractor tool in FlashTool.
3. The result is a system.ext4 file.
4. If on Linux or OS X, mount it and zip the system folder. On WinRar you can use a tool like Ext2Extractor to do the job.
5. ????
6. Profit.

It's a better way than just renaming ftf to zip but his problem is that Flashtool doesn't work on his PC
@Chronoxl, You can try to convert it with an Android Kitchen tool like "Assayyed kitchen" from here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/ch...-android-roms-editor-assayyedkitchen-t3410545
I use it to convert elf boot to img but not tried to convert the whole firmware, it works for others Xperia.

download, unpack and open the folder. copy the .sin file(s) into the folder and create a new folder called "output" =>
Code:
C:\Users\$NAME\Downloads\sony_dump_tools\output
type "cmd" in the above address bar of the Explorer window and hit "Enter" => cmd.exe starts
execute
Code:
sony_dump output <name of your *.sin file>
DO NOT doubleclick the .exe! It's a binary for cmd.exe!
For any errors please post the output of cmd.exe or post a screenshot (WINDOWS+Shift+S) of cmd.exe
It gave me system.sin.unknown file
And here is the cmd

as you can see everything is fine. the file is called *.unknown because the tool don't know what it is. but it's not an error.
rename system.sin.unknown => system.ext4
download and install 7z from here. Then open system.ext4 with it.

Then we have to find out what kind of file type was unpacked.
Please install HxD - Hex Editor.
=> choose your language and "Edition = installable"
=> open HxD > go to "File" (top left) > "Open" > select "system.ext4"
=> press F11 and make screenshot
In HxD you'll see left "Offset". Please also scroll down to Offset 00000400 and do a second screenshot that shows 00000400 and the following lines to round about 00000600.
