[Q] Convert FTF into flashable zip for CWM - Sony Xperia Miro, Tipo (Dual), J, E

Hey guys, I was wondering if you could find me a good tutorial for converting an FTF into flashable zip for CWM I found something but it creates a massive ~900mb file so I think there's something wrong. I want this for creating an E (1505) rom based off that new 11.3.A.2.33 ftf
Thanks in advance

1) Open the ftf with WinRAR.
2) Extract the system.sin to your desktop.
3) Open flashtool.
4) Click Tools>Sin Editor.
5) Select the system.sin file on your desktop and then click extract data.
6) Wait for the whole process to finish.
7) Download ext2explore and run it in administrator mode.
8) Open the system.ext4 flashtool has created for you.
9) Save the files to your desktop by right clicking on the root of the directory shown.
10) Bundle these files into a flashable .zip (there are plenty of these in the forums).

Sure Will Help

Check the contents of the zip file, if it contains a .ftf file inside it you have to extract and use flashtool to flash it.
If it contains an updater-script then its probably a recovery flashable file, which means it won't work using flash tool.
If you rename and try, you most probably will get an error from the flashtool.
But i doubt its possible to brick your phone that way though
it contains .sin files and meta-inf folder

Most likely you should be able to. But can you quote the source and name of the file maybe?

[Q] convert a FTF ROM to a ZIP ROM

I think that in order to customize a ROM it needs to be in ZIP format, right?
At least in ZIP format I was able to browse the contents of ROMs while in FTF it didn't work with 7zip, or at least the contents are not easily readable.
So, can anyone help me converting FTF to ZIP? I'm on Windows 7.
I tried a tool called F2Z but it didn't work with my Sony Xperia Miro FTF ROM file.
Thanks in advance.
Cheers

1. Open .zip with WinRar or 7zip. Extract system.sin
2. Use the sin extractor tool in FlashTool.
3. The result is a system.ext4 file.
4. If on Linux or OS X, mount it and zip the system folder. On WinRar you can use a tool like Ext2Extractor to do the job.
5. ????
6. Profit.

FTF files are basically just zip files.
The folder it came in is a compressed folder. It seems you have extracted the contents from it. Make sure you have not hidden known file extensions in the windows options.
If not, just rename the folder to end in .FTF and it will be fine.
Yup, rename the entire folder to .FTF and It will flash just fine.

Are you sure it was a file and not a folder you renamed....
When you download the file do not open it, just move it to the firmware folder

When I try to download it through Xperifirm I get the same problem but it doesn't come as an FTF file. It needs to be to work with PRFCreator.

Edit .sin file

Hello everyone,
I am tying to make a "light" official rom of the Z3 by removing some *.apk of an *.ftf file.
I have extracted all the folders from the *.ftf (ftf - system.sin - system.ext4 - files...) and removed all the apk I don't want, but I don't know how to make a new "system.sin" from all the files I have extracted. I looked from the internet, but I am a little noob.
Can someone help me to build a new *.ftf file to flash it with Flashtool ? :crying:

As far as i known you can't edit .sin / .ftf files as they are signed using sony private key that no one has...
Technical info here:
https://gist.github.com/dosomder/8ed79b26a5e063efa5ef
"And that is the reason why we can not create custom firmwares for Xperia. If you still don't understand, RSA is an asymmetric function.
This means it's using a private key to create the signature and a public key to read it. So even if we find the public key
(which is somewhere on the device), we can never find or guess the private key. Therefore we can not create a valid signature."
But you can create a .zip firmware to be flashed via recovery
I used Flashtool-sin editor on "system.sin" that give me "system. ext4".
With ext2explore I opened " system.ext4" and extracts all files and folders (app, privateapp, etc, build.prop...).
From folders "app" and "privateapp", I removed the *.apk I don't want, but I don't know if I can build a new " system.sin".
There is really no way to reverse ? Make a "system. ext4" from the folders I modified, and convert it in "system.sin" ?
If we can do something in a way, can't we do it on "reverse way" ?

It cannot be done. 100% impossible.
If you want to make your own rom Google [NUT]'s method to create your own rom.
There is also a tool to create your own prerooted flashable zip, but if course, all of this requires root
Thanks a lot for all your answers...
I won't try to make it in zip...

[Completed] Need an update to my RK3066 that isn't in RAR type but rather ZIP.

i need an update to my RK3066 to 4.4.4 kitkat that isn't in RAR type but rather zip. I've downloaded a couple different ones from the Malaysk profile on XDA and then converted to zip only to have my device recognize it as a bad file. any options?
Hi !
What did you use to convert it ? The zip or rar are the same
You maybe want a zip file in order to flash it in recovery but you have downloaded a rar which isn`t recognized
Open the rar archive and use the files from inside of it , it may contain an image an you have to use that one
Good luck !

i did try and flash update w/ the rar but the tablet didn't recognize a rar ext. So i converted to a zip and the tablet stopped because it stated it was a bad file. I thought something may have messed up during the conversion and did it again but same result. I've looked everywhere for updates to 4.4.4 for this tablet but no luck. the ones that i did try and flash would open update and then abort the install.
As I said, I understand what you have tried, now please listen to me, the rar file is not a flashable zip and you cannot just convert it to zip in order to flash it, the flashable zip file results from building the ROM not converting rar to zip
Rar and zip are indeed both archives but the zip you need is a flashable zip as I mentioned above
Open that rar and tell me what you have inside
As for roms, if here on xda aren't available then contact the manufacturer's website or go deeper into Google, as far as I can see there is no ROM for your device here on xda
