Restoring DRM keys - Xperia Z3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Anyone already tried restoring DRM keys? Is there no problem with it? As z3 got root just a while ago, I'm still a bit afraid to loose all the stuff sony gives. I have successfully rooted and backed up, so the question is only about restoring them.

No can do.
Google 'restore drm functionality' or find it here in the forums. Afaik when the drm keys are gone, they're gone. But you can get almost all of the functionality back (PlayStation -play everywhere or whatever it's called isn't there yet)

I have Rooted AND Backed up. I'm talking directly about restoring them. It is working on other Z devices, but is it on ours?

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2292598
Give it a go (or check with dev about support)

I've been keeping myself pretty informed on this...But haven't flashed it yet. I'm an ex-Samsung user with experience flashing tho.
Afaik the drm keys can not yet be restored for the Z3, just functionality. Older models, yes, but not ours yet.

Yes they can.
Use the same tool you used to back them up to restore them.

I really hope you're right, but via Google I don't find any mention of the z3. Only older models, and a discussion in the z3c forum.
I'd be thankful for a link to the thread or site where you found that it's possible.
Really. I hope you're right.

1) Root the phone
2) Use the tool in the cross device development forum to backup the TA partition
3) Use the same tool to restore.

Ok. But the z3 isn't listed under compatible devices.
Are you telling me from first hand experience that it works, and the op needs to be updated to include the z3?

I have not done it, but there are reports in that thread that it does. Why not give it a shot yourself.
Root on the Z3 only came in the last few days, you need to give the OP time to update....

I had done both backing up and restoring drm keys like 5-6 times on my z3.
It worked everytime.
So, don't worry.

[Q] [Correct Forum?]Some Questions About This Phone

I will be getting a Sony Xperia E from Immix (with a SIM Card), and I am wondering if I am in the correct section of the forums. I have a few questions, since I had an HTC One V before, about the current status of this phone:
Has this phone been S-Off'd yet?
If not, is TWRP at least released for this phone?
I think that's it. I'll update with more questions as I get them
Thanks in advance,

S-OFF (unlock bootloader) in Sony terms is can be done by visit http://unlockbootloader.sonymobile.com and follow the instructions. make sure you test by enter *#*#7378423#*#* on dialer and then, tap Service info > Configuration > Rooting Status. If Bootloader unlock allowed says Yes, then you can continue with the next step. If it says No, or if the status is missing, your device cannot be unlocked.
dunno if someone already build TWRP for Xperia E, but there is CWM for Xperia E

Sorry, in [HTC One V] terms, S-Off not only requires the bootloader to already be unlocked, but then you can also edit the boot, radio and other partitions that are still locked while the bootloader is unlocked.
And that phone number is very helpful, thanks! I'll have to test it Wednesday, when my phone is supposed to arrive
And about building TWRP, I'll do it. I've built several pieces of software for my previous phone, aaaaand I hope it's the same process LOL

You've had a One V? Cool, there's one in the family, still stock, of course.
I think the radio and stuff can be changed even when the bootloader is locked , using Flashtool to flash the firmwares in flash mode. [citation needed] At least the baseband can be changed easily, probably other stuff too.
TWRP has been built for CM10 (actually it's a dual recovery; both CWM and TWRP) by hsr0. Others have been built too, but since our phones have no recovery image, the recovery has to be built into the kernel, and this is the most stable CM10 kernel, I recommend this one. Not sure if there's a stock TWRP, though.

So from this info I'm guessing you're a major developer for this phone?
Just a note- I plan on unlocking the bootloader as soon as I get the phone, so I don't lose any personal data stored on it

LOL, no. I've just started my first project, and hardly anybody here knows what it is.
Before unlocking your phone's bootloader, be sure to root it (many guides to root it with a locked bootloader here) and backup the TA partition: this partition has some DRM keys that are removed once you unlock the bootloader. I'm not sure what they do, but you can check whether the DRM keys are there or not, so if you take it to Sony, you can reflash TA, unroot, and they'll honour the warranty.

Yes.
And also make sure, you've got a few ftf files.
In case you want to know in HTC terms: FTFs are like RUUs, but safer to flash - so much that we've been using Xperia E dual's FTF files on the Xperia E single.

You know, I've been liking you (and a couple of other forum members) more and more, as I read your (and their) posts.
Another tip: don't, ever let the battery level on your phone go down below 15%. Because when the battery goes down to 0%, it's pretty difficult to wake it up - I just had to wake up mine.

[Q] How do I get an Android L developer's preview?

Hi, I read that anyone with a developer's account can access the developers' preview build of Android L, that was supposed to be available today, I have a developer's account (to upload apps to the market) but I don't see any build of android L, is this the required account? or is there any other type of account required? thanks!

I guess they just haven't released it, yet.

Thank you all, maybe I'm getting too desperate I just wanted to confirm that my account is the right one, I'll be refreshing until it appears, thanks again!
EDIT: I believe being rooted would not be a problem at the moment of the installation, right? I know that I'll lose root after that, but as long as the actual installation does not give me problems, it's fine.

Considering that the images will have to be flashed through fastboot, you'll probably lose root and everything else on data/system partitions (unless they don't wipe it, but I think it does).

As long as you don't flash the userdata.img, all /sdcard data will be fine. You don't have to flash userdata.img to bump android versions! System, boot would do just fine (and bootloader if they bump it as well)
Or you could just wait till a flashable zip is posted. Someone will have one up within hours of release.

Unless they changed the folder structure like they did a few releases ago - if they did, best to do a clean install.
I'm backing up right now just in case.
Don't wanna mess with the installation script by flashing some things and not others (although there would be virtually no risk by flashing system and boot partition), but better safe than sorry, after all, we can just shove everything back when finished
Consider ir a backup routine, and you'll have an updated bk

That's an entirely different scenario. Each and everyone of us would need to wipe clean if that happens but usually a system and boot flash would do just fine
The N5 has been my FIRST of many, many, many Android phones and even Windows Pocket PC phones that I haven't felt the need to unlock/root etc. Everything has just worked great on it and I have always been able to do everything I wanted to do from this phone. I have been so satisfied with the phone that it has kept me away from XDA for a while. Don't know if that is a good thing or bad, lol. I used to be on this site for hours every single day and now I feel like I am light years behind in rooting. HA!
L has me interested though and I am contemplating unlocking my bootloader for it which just becomes a PITA with losing your data and adding things back and all that great stuff that takes so much of your time. Then if things suck you have to flash back to something else and the never ending process continues. The N5 has gotten me so much time back in my life but I feel like it might demand some of my time back to it. Oh I hate this stuff!!!!
I think I'll make a backup, just in case, as someone said previously, I would prefer to make a clean installation if it's needed and use the image provided by Google.
Thanks!

It is reversible using flashtool
However, it still will not restore TA partition so it can be seen if you have unlocked.
The only way to completely reset to factory conditions is to restore a TA backup, but the only way to get that is to root before unlocking

I do not want to talk about warranty's.
All I am saying is that in order to restore your phone to factory settings you need a stock TA partition. To restore a stock TA partition after unlocking the bootloader you need a backup of a TA partition taken from your phone. In order to make that backup you need root.

Again, as said numerous times in this thread, if you could be bothered to read the links or a quick read of the forum you'd know.
In my opinion, if you want to "mod" a phone, get a Nexus or a HTC One M8. Sony phones going all the way back to Xperia X10 are rubbish with custom Roms and "mods"
Right now, you cannot return completely to stock.

[Q] Z3 drm keys / ta partition question

Hello guys,
I just want to be sure before losing warranty...
If i root my phone and backup DRM Keys / TA Partition, will i be able to restore everything (stock rom and all functions (x-reality and camera optimizations) + drm keys) after joining open device program and "installing" recovery mode (http://developer.sonymobile.com/201...for-a-range-of-unlocked-xperia-devices-video/) and/or installing Android M Preview (http://developer.sonymobile.com/201...-xperia-devices-in-sonys-open-device-program/), or will this "destroy" those functions?
And if i restore ta partitions, does it mean everything is like "factory state" and even regain my warranty?
Just want to be 100% sure
Greets Xorg
Nobody done this...? ?
Basically, you need to root your device before unlocking bootloader and then back up the TA partition.
After that, you can unlock bootloader and play around with some of the available custom roms like CM.
Then, if you flash stock sony firmware and restore the drm keys, I guess there would be no problem in claiming warranty unless you hard-bricked your device.
BTW, I had unlocked my bootloader and restored my drm keys for like 2-3 times and the process worked everytime (at least) for me.
Hope this helps.

Bootloader unlock wasn't needed at all.
Anyway, search XperiFix here on xda, but I don't know if it's ready for xz2 family. Oh, it's a paid solution, about 19€.

Z2 had even more troubles.
Maybe you never noticed, but the camera was really bad after bootloader unlock.

At least it can take pictures, only the preview is black :silly:
Due to the lack of pie support of the pay solution at the moment, you can downgrade your phone to OREO, install the solution, take a picture and upgrade your phone to PIE again.
You need newflasher v13 from XDA and the stock Oreo ROM I uploaded in the TWRP thread.
And a downgrade requires factory reset.
Because of the encryption.
Feel free to ask for help.

And use it a single time in OREO to take a picture.
And you need to backup your userdata before downgrading to Oreo.

Even with magisk hide?
You need magisk (it gives you root) to boot the phone after the twrp installation, because of Android Verified Boot 2.0

Go into my TWRP thread and install TWRP and magisk.
Root your phone, backup your apps with Titanium Backup
Downgrade to the Oreo firmware I uploaded there, use xperifix as DRMfix.
Boot into Oreo, use the camera to take one shot.
Upgrade to PIE and reinstall your apps with Titanium Backup.
Titanium Backup and xperifix costs some €/$
Then wait for xperifix PIE release to get your 100% photo quality back.

I saw your thread, if it's the only solution I'll try it after. I am under Win7 and xperifix is running under win8 and 10. Thanks for responding

It should run under win 7 too
You're welcome
And a DRMfix reactivates every function back, like you never unlocked it.
