Wifi Hotspot Disabled - Xperia Z3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So I got a strange text from my carrier (Telus) this morning. See below.
Does anyone know what issue they are talking about? Are any other carriers sending this message?
" We have been advised by Sony that an issue may arise when the WiFi hotspot on your Sony Xperia Z3 is activated. A software update will be available in a few weeks to address this issue. In the interim, we have disabled the WiFi hotspot capability on your phone. You will receive an email/letter from TELUS in the coming days with more details. We regret any inconvenience. Free TELUS msg."

Samsung Omnia W - SMS Problem

Dear friends, hello!
I'm new in XDA, and i migrated from Android to Windows Phone,
A 4 days a go i've bought the Samsung Omnia W (SGH-i677).
I liked too much this platform, i'm loving it. Really!
But i got a little (and serious) issue with my device. I don't know if this is a problem of my device, or a problem of Windows Phone.
This is my issue: When i send a SMS Message, sometimes the message is sent correctly, sometimes my destiny doesn't receive any message. And few minutes after, i got a error message "Couldn't send a message. Try again".
And sometimes i receive a SMS message with no problems. Sometimes my destiny tell'me that sent me a message, but i dont receive any message).
I search for any incidence about this issue in Internet. I found some friends with the same problem. And they tell about this problem after a NoDo update, but i'm already using the Mango. I couldn't find how to fix this error.
But i saw in the internet, they telling you to change the connection to 2G (Turn off the 3G). And as they say, it works to me. ALL blocked SMSs were sent correctly!
Someone here knows what can i do about it?
I dont want back to Android/iOS. I really liked the platform, and i'm very happy with WP7. But this is a serious issue, i really use the SMS service.
What can i do about it?
i'm using the omnia W(GT-i8350) and even i'm facing the same issue. when i switch off the data connection, the texts can be sent. what is the fix?
model - samsung omnia w i8350( GT-I8350)
OS Version : 7.10.7720.68
Carrier : TATA DOCOMO
It's the issue with yr operator.
Am sure this an operator related issue. Make sure the sms center number is correct.
This problem cannot be operator-specific. I am facing the same issue with an Airtel connection.
Not an operator issue
hi. This certainly not operator specific issue. I have tried with 3 different operators and the problem persists. I have contacted samsung service center and I was told to bring the handset to service center for update which is available. I don't know exactly which update they are talking exactly but since I have updated my OS it must be firmware update. I am going to send my phone to service center in next few days. I will get back to you with their response.

what is your OS and firmware version number? can you please post it?
and did you send it to the service centre?
and the issue is not operator specific, i've faced it on Vodafone and DOCOMO
Hi,
Actually I am able to send. But not to multiple persons. Using Vodafone.
I think it's problem with WP7 how it sends the messages.
Possible to discuss in WP support forums.
---------- Post added at 08:04 PM ---------- Previous post was at 08:03 PM ----------
Can any one confirm it's not a problem in Nokia/HTC and only specific to Samsung?
are you able to send on 3g+/hspa network too, cause i know 3 other people on vodafone 3g who cannot
they can only send message when they switch off data
and if they are on edge then data is not a problem, even if it's on , text can be sent
btw, i have sent text to 5 people together with no issues at all right now..

I bought my Samsunng Omnia W in Decemeber 2011 from Delhi (India).
I am facing the same problem (can't send sms).
This problem persists with 3G or data on or off.
I showed it to samsung service centre. They told me the same issue was faced with people in Mumbai and some cases in Delhi. They had installed a software upgrade in these phones and the issue was resolved.
But they were unable to install that software in my device.
Now they are claiming that it is an hardware issue as well.
They are changing the motherboard of my device.
It will take 3-4 days more.
Hopefully they'll be able to fix it.
I will update the status once I receive my device back.
p.s. THIS IS NOT AN OPERATOR SPECIFIC ISSUE. I faced the problem with vodafone and airtel. I even replace my sim. but the problem persisted.
Please thank if you found my post helpful.

Solution:
Changing automatic network selection to manual network selection solved this issue on my Omnia W.
Manual network selection did not help

Similar network issues on z5 as the z3 dual??

Hey everyone I had purchased an xperia z3 dual about a year ago and been using it on AT&T ever since. When I first received my z3 I was not getting calls and/or messages when I was connected on LTE. I would have to turn my LTE off to receive calls and messages consistently.
I was curious to know if anyone with the Z5 dual on AT&T has experienced these issues??
If anyone is not aware of this i have attached a previous XDA link stating the issues. It was not just with the Dual Z3.

I had no LTE connection at all when I first set my E6653 up on AT&T. Had to call them and give them the IMEI of one of my old AT&T LTE devices. The IMEI of my Z5 was showing up as a Sony P900.

Okay, but have you had issues receiving calls and/or texts after you did that? I do not want to spend another 600-700 bucks if I'm going to continue to have the same issues as I do on my z3.

AT&T software update 6/15/16?

Anybody else get prompted today for an update? Anyone know what's in it?
AT&T wifi calling
Wifi calling
and AT&T using this update as an opportunity to change your Chrome browser homepage to home.att.com powered by Yahoo. Because AT&T can't do something nice without balancing it with something ****ty. Balance in the universe is thus preserved.

If you already installed it, you can be a proud owner of the first Android device on AT&T network that supports Wi-Fi calling. It actually works pretty good so far and I can't tell for sure if they fixed a 5Ghz Wi-Fi issue because I got the update about an hour ago but as a piece of hope I got higher speedtest.net results than before, so maybe they actually made a highly desired change in a baseband besides adding a 2G toggle that actually makes a network search much faster than before.
Another noticeable change is that I got extra free 100MB of RAM which is never a bad thing.
if someone could upload&share this update for non-US residents, that would be nice

Update breaks tethering
This update broke USB tethering for me. I know receive a "Authentication Unsuccessful please contact blah blah blah". They should provide this information in the BASIC UPDATE INFO at least. If SOMETHING else happened to change this on my phone IMMEDIATELY after I did the update then I apologize for the incorrect information but I truly believe it was the update as no other changes have been made.

Just got this. Now at version H81021y with 2016-06-01 security patch.
Is there anyway someone could extract this OTA and post it so us folks that can't get the update, can install it on our phones? I'm just curious as to whether the the wifi calling will work on T-Mobile too.
Edit: I was able to get the update by getting an active AT&T sim card. Unfortunately, wifi calling will not work with a T-Mobile sim.
Any one know if this update will prevent the dirtysanta root method from working?

T-Mobile band 12 VOLTE does it work? F3113

I am @ Bestbuy and want to buy the xperia xa F3123 right now. Can anyone quickly let me know band12 VOLTE works on T-Mobile and/or MetroPCS? Thanks in advance.
Well it seems as though VOLTE does not work on this device. It's weird because the whitepaper on sonymobile site says that this device does support VOLTE. I will be returning the device if this does not work.

Yep i thought It did aswell, I'm in the UK on three UK and though I think it is network dependant too in the build prop file it does say something volte=0 it may be just turned off. Also not convinced that the white paper is even correct if this is the case.

Update: more settings
The VOLTE setting in build.prop are:
ro.mtk_ims_support=0
ro.mtk_volte_support=0
persist.mtk.volte.enable=0
persist.dbg.volte_avail_ovr=0
Can someone with root access change it to 1 and reboot your device? After this check through setting to see if there is VOLTE or Advanced Calling somewhere. Also try a call and see if LTE stays connected.
I tried all of those build.prop settings. I get the Enable VOLTE option in settings but all calls drop to UMTS/HSPA. Sony Mobile support on their forumkeep pointing to the whitepaper and blaming the carrier. I tried a T-Mobile sim and an AT&T sim. No VOLTE. I tried Bell Canada ROM and journalist ROM. Still no VOLTE. Guess I will be returning the device. Too bad because the hardware is great.

Specs according to my network three UK clearly states volte voice over 4glte strange...
EDIT: From what I can gather it's all done automatically on my network at least, especially if you use there WiFi/volte calling app called three in touch for when you have no network coverage it was originally intended as a WiFi calling app but now supports volte apparently and for now must be on my carrier firmware(more or less a customised UK ftf only there splash screen and two of there apps both needed) not that this probably helps you but it is supported(network dependant)

Three UK, but until I can find somewhere I can't get a normal signal I can't try it out. I've checked my carrier supports it they do, they say my xa supports it but it will only kick in when all other methods of making a call fail. Shame really, for me it's a great device

Got VoLTE toggle after adding these lines in build prop.

And changing some overlay apps and changing modem to VoLTE as well.

It's network dependant so even if you enable the volte toggle in settings via build prop if your network doesn't have volte you can't use it. Still trying to figure out who is right. My network advertise the xa as 4g super voice(what my network call volte) capable out of the box as do Sony yet there's no toggle or mention of volte calling anywhere in the device. Three UK reckon it'll only revert to volte calling if all other methods of making a call fail first say if your in a area with no or little reception. It's a sim free network unlocked device running my networks slightly tweaked customised UK ftf with only a splash screen and a few apps for account info and a WiFi calling app

That statement about volte as a last resort sounds backwards from how every other volte phone works. They prioritize volte. Also thanks for speaking up in my Sony Mobile forum thread. The more people bug Sony, the better chance we have of getting a straight answer. If we end up with working volte support I may purchase this device again. I really do like the size & form.

US T-Mobile VoLTE support?

Does the US version support US T-Mobile VoLTE without reflashing mixing US oem.sin into foreign firmware?
You'd need to be on US region firmware to use VoLTE. For example, I flashed my Xperia 1 (J9110) to J8170 and everything works, including VoLTE - except for the 2nd sim.
It's carrier depending. The Sony is cable.

Silly me. I didn't realize this isn't out yet. GSMArena indicated October release, and I assumed it was already out and came here.
I suppose we won't know if the Xperia 5 sold in the US (ie Amazon, BestBuy, Adorama, etc) will support VoLTE out of the box. XperiFirm shows:
J8210 (listed in GSMArena) - UK & Ireland
J9210 (listed in GSMArena) - Europe, UK, Russia, Taiwan, HK and China
J8270 (listed in GSMArena) - Not found in XperiFirm
SOV41 (not mentioned in GSMArena) - Japan
901SO (not mentioned in GSMArena) - Japan
I suppose it will support VoLTE, as I read in the past in another thread about how the international firmwares recently started including VoLTE for the US. I am still on the XZ1 Compact, so I don't have any personal experience.
EDIT: Sorry, the thing about US VoLTE support in international firmwares might have been from the Samsung threads. I've been researching the S10e and Xperia 5 as my next phone after my XZ1 Compact, that my brain is fried.

Any chance that WiFi calling works as well? I'm seriously considering this device as an upgrade from the XZ1 compact. I'm probably hoping for too much here as that would have required a certification.
Unfortunately WiFi calling is not showing up for me on T-Mobile US. I can't remember the last time this was an issue. I'll call them later today to see whether the plan on whitelisting the Xperia 5 for WiFi calling.
I also can't tell if we're actually using VoLTE or not. The option is there in setting and LTE stays connected during a call, but I'm not certain whether the call is actually connecting nicer LTE.

I just made a call and watched the app. Unfortunately I remained on Band 4 during the call. Sounds like this means the call was not using VoLTE. Very disappointing.
Just received a call and there phone app said the call was over WiFi. That setting is nowhere to be found so that's interesting.
The person on the other end did confirm a echo on speaker phone, though. Not sure how to get rid of that.

Thank you. That's an interesting find. Also, I wouldn't expect the phone to switch during a call from band 4 to band 12. The only way to see would be to find a spot where you're on band 12 and see if it switches away during a call. It should stay on the strongest signal band.

Ah, I misunderstood your point about band 12 originally, apologies. I received calls yesterday and today and the Phone app says "calling over data," so I guess that is how they're saying VoLTE. I swear the terminology shown for both VoWiFi and VoLTE was different on my OnePlus 7 Pro.
In summary, for those skipping to the end, VoWiFi and VoLTE seem to work (on T-Mobile USA) even though it's not obvious.

Any chance that WiFi calling works as well? I'm seriously considering this device as an upgrade from the XZ1 compact. I'm probably hoping for too much here as that would have required a certification.

VoLTE is available and works
I do not think WIFI calling is enabled/allowed on this phone.
I could not find wifi calling settings to enable/disable on the phone, so i did some tests to check if it works:
1. When I call within a WIFI network and TMobile off, the calls wont go through.
2. Also, when everything is on and I am connected on WIFI but very poor TMobile connection, I do not see WIFI calling

There is indeed no option to enable this but WiFi calling does work on T-Mobile USA.
I bought the phone last week. I compared the bands and connectivity with my XZ1 Compact. It definitely has VoLTE including band 12, but unfortunately it does not have any working WiFi calling on Tmo. No option and it doesn't make calls or texts on WiFi only connections.
I will say that it does seem to have a slightly better signal strength than my XZ1 Compact had.
Bump for any updates?
I get calls in lte mode so yeah I'd say USA volte works
