hi all, im new here and new to tablets,
I want to buy a cheap 10.1 for my mom, but it must work with a sim card (3g) because she has no wifi,
ive seen some for sale ads in different places, some say the mz601 dosnt work with sim cards and some say it works.
so if I buy one, will a sim card work or not.
thanks in advance
I could be wrong but isn't the mz601 WiFi only? I have a stingray MZ602 and that takes a sim and I did the LTE upgrade on it!

Hi guys,
First of all my apologies if I couldn't find this question in the current forums. I'm the proud owner of my imported Motorola XOOM 3G 32GB from USA to The Netherlands, and I started reading a lot in the XOOM section of XDA-Devs (already have a HTC HD2 with Android so already got a lot of Droid experience).
I've already rooted (& unlocked??) my XOOM with 1-Click Root & Unlock, but when I plug in my T-Mobile Netherlands SIM card, the tablet keeps hanging on 'Activating your XOOM..' (or something). Why is it called 1-Click Root & Unlock but it doesn't unlock my XOOM? Is it just for USA cellular?
I've also red a lot about the fact that they use other hardware in the USA for 3G data than in de EU (EV-GE(?) vs HSDPA), is this the reason why I can't use my 3G function in European Union? I don't hope so because when that's true, I purchased about 200 euro more on a 3G function which actually don't work here.
Please let me know if it's possible to use the 3G, or tell me the hard and painfull truth that it's not going to work in EUROPE ?
Any h4cks or something would be great!
Let me know and best wishes from the land of wooden shoes, The Netherlands.
Max.
Pretty sure your trying to activate a Verizon 3G version (cdma) on a uk 3G network (gsm). Not possible...at all...period...

No.

When you say no , do that also means it will never ever be a solution on the future?
Thx for you reply
There is no gsm radio in the US wifi xoom. so never is as good as it gets right now.
I have a us 3g xoom , cannot i use 3g yet? When i put sim card nothing happens.
You have a Us verizon xoom? If so there is no gsm modem to use the sim card. Its only a slot for the future 4g upgrade. You won't be able to do anything with a gsm sim card.

After upgrade can i use it?
No, you need a completely different xoom model all together.
hello all,
i've a 3g verizon us xoom. may i install uk 3g xoom's rom on it?
may i use a 2g/3g sim card after that?
thanks
Same Problem
Hi developers,
I have a very similar problem, except for I'm trying to use my US (used to be Verizon - but I UNLOCKED it) with China Unicom's 3G sim card. It won't pick up signal. I wonder if that is possible and what I need to change in order for it to work.
Any help will be appreciated,
thanks
The US xoom is cdma 3g and not gsm, which is why it wont pick up signal. Also the simcard slot is not for the 3g but for 4g which isn't available yet. I would doubt it would work.

Verizons xoom is CDMA and the hardware is different, the sim slot in the verizon has no hardware yet. When the free hardware update comes in at some point it will be 4G not 3G.
So in short the answer is NO.
Lordao
YES! you can use any images on your verizon 3G XOOM!
I have tried several, and they ALL work!
you WILL get your SIM working as well!! but you will not be able to use the 3G GSM network, because the images do not contain the baseband files used for the radio.
Hardware differences have not been confirmed by anyone, people are just assuming. The radio chip used multi-frequency capable hence must be the same.
One must do a baseband firmware change, to find out if the CDMA to HSPA/GSM will work!

Ok
Thanks for your responses...
I'll go back to China Unicom and ask them for the CDMA 3G, since they're supposed to have that, too.
From what I've read, you can pop a Verizon 4G sim into pretty much any unlocked LTE capable device and have it work.
Now I'm guessing this is going to be a no, but...
I got an Airtel 3G Data card (specifically the Huawei E1731) when I went to India and unlocked it, if I remember correctly it kept swapping from CDMA and GSM signals. Now if I pop the Nano SIM I got with my iPhone 5 into this data card, (I'll try to make my self a Nano SIM to SIM adapter) is there any chance of it working?
I've also heard if things like the 4G sim being deactivated when you swap to a 3G device. But wouldn't putting it in a 3G device be the same as using the iPhone 5 with LTE turned off?
And is there any chance of Verizon messing with my data plan if I put the sim in the data card and start using it with my laptop?
I just saw a a video of someone putting a nano sim in an iPhone 4s and it working so I think this should at least work on the data card, still worried about the Verizon side of this.
Also I just remembered something about different frequencies, would the fact that the data card is from India affect my ability to use it?
Actually, I'm pretty sure Verizon SIM cards are only for their devices. I don't think they work otherwise

I've read from a few different reliable sources, don't have any links on hand. But its the phone that is locked to a carrier, not the sim that is locked to the phone, so as long as the device is unlocked and has the required hardware, it should work with that sim.
In verizons case, at the very least the LTE should work with an LTE device, I'm not sure about voice, 3G, and 2G.
In that case you wouldn't get 3G on other phones, since the SIM cards Verizon has are for 4G LTE only, their 3G networks are CDMA and thus built into the phone.
LTE is a GSM technology which is the only reason they use SIM cards at all

That is what I was thinking, but the data card seems to have both CDMA and GSM bands and when I pop out the LTE sim from my phone I lose all signal not just LTE.
Now what I'm thinking is that, since the SIM holds all the Account info, etc, not just 4G related things, that if I pop it into the 3G data card, (I've seen Iphone 5 SIM be put into a 4s and work) that it should work. That is if the Data card is compatible, which I'm not 100% sure on.
The SIM in a GSM phone holds all the account information. The SIM in a CDMA phone is for data only - the phone will work for voice/text without it. The SIMs are different software/wise.

That's what I initially thought but, If that's true than why is my iPhone 5 not able to use Data, voice, or text without the SIM inserted?
I'm not to worried about it not working, the thing I'm concerned about is verizon messing up my plans if I try using the sim in a data card.
