I was thinking after having a z1 I could deal with glass on 2 sides...not so!! This is one slippy phone!!
It went flying out of my arm strap at the gym and cracked, thank god it was only the back as they're only £15/$20 to replace....though I am sure I can do it (years of mini model/warhammer painting in my youth so used to fiddly crap) I could do with a guide and nothing is screamingly obvious when I've been looking.
Does anyone have a nice simple guide to hand I could use?
Thanks

How does the replacement part feel? Does it feel like a real OEM part as the site advertises?

I think I'd struggle to tell the difference, It'll be more apparent what it's like when I replace it though.
Just waiting on Amazon to send me the bits to change it with.
It should be easy enough to tell when you remove the current glass back. The uncertainty of the replacement part is what has stopped me from doing this repair myself.

Just replaced mine. No trouble at all using just a guitar pick.
Cover bought oem on ebay for 8 USD apx.
I'll be doing it within the next 48 hours, barely had 5 minutes since I ordered the parts to sit down and do it!
Just got a z3 today, hope this will never happen to mine, but good to know it's an easy replacement job

I got it off EBAY as the original replacement parts link was out of stock....funnily enough their EBAY had them in stock and cheaper!
Turns out I am a gigantic muppet after spending about 20mins peeling the back off as it's shattered into about a million pieces.
I find I have not got a Z3 replacement but infact a z3 compact. There was some swearing.
I'm ordering a new part now, how I didn't notice that sooner...

Did you not watch the video? It looks like it comes off easy with no peeling.
Sent from my D6603 using XDA Free mobile app
Yeah I did, but in practice it's rather different. Apart from the obvious lack of sealant on the video the back was in one piece mine was in about a million or so.
I also used a hair dryer over a heat gun.
The bit that makes me sure the video is a quick after the fact version is I had 2 large blobs of glue on the back of the battery, which were around the concentration of smallest shards. That was a nightmare with tweezers to remove the parts. When I pulled a shard off it invariably broke into even more.
The replacement ball should arrive today or tomorrow I hope so I'll be fitting that asap.
Remember to update us on how it went with a couple pictures.

UPDATE: I'm having no luck with this the sealant on the backing was obviously faulty as it is now coming free of the casing. I've emailed them for a replacement.

Ok all done! My phone looks perfect, there was one minor hitch after all this too....getting the NFC sticker back on. I've not yet checked it's working but the adhesive sticker was the right shape to help me line it up.
I had to use the old hairdryer to loosen up the glue, and once I got a bit lifted up it got easier but it was a couple of minutes of slowly pulling it off with tweezers.
I've yet to brave the waterproofing...but that being said it's the same adhesive as before...

Read the above about the seal. It's coming off. Seems the glue was not sticky enough! Waiting to hear back about another replacement! Might need to apply more glue around the battery as well.
Quality wise, glass etc it's fine, just the sealant.
Replacebase for the back. Their eBay site as free shipping though.

Hello,
Does anyone know where I can buy a battery cover that's either matter or has a rubberized feel to it for my Galaxy S?
I don't want a case, I just want a back cover that's not a fingerprint magnet.
I'm looking for something that's already made and that can ship to Eastern Europe (Romania, eg. Amazon UK ships most stuff to my country).
Thank you.
Interesting nickname .. you've got bitten ?
I've got this one: http://cgi.ebay.com/Samsung-Galaxy-..._MobilePhonesCasesPouches&hash=item1e64e81191
It will fit perfectly (at least mine did).
Ultra fast shipping to Romania (coming from UK). I've ordered monday evening and thusday morning it was in my postal box at my apartment.
P.S.: I got directions for this from this topic: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=720718
Thanks alot mate, will have a look and probably order one.
( just an old nickname, and usually english ones I use in games are taken )
edit: just placed the order.

Got mine today. 4 days from UK to Germany. Applied it immidiatly and it fits perfectly! tremendous! I imagined it a little bit more "rubbery" but its more like a smooth grip. Still a great improvement with this matt black look. Grip improved 100%. No more sweat. Feels soft and natural. Recommended!

Hi all, does anyone know a place where to buy this cover? I can't find it anymore, I see sold out in every place...
I bought 3 sets of screen protectors. One from china, one from the us, one from ny. Random sellers with good ratings. Turns out the ones from us and china scratched when even wiped with the given cloth. And the one from ny had way too many bubbles (not due to dust. It was because it was too stiff?)
So if anyone has any extras that are good that you can spare, would you be willing to donate it to me? . Please and thank yous!

I will vouch for the protectors BlazinHitman posted, I bought 1 while I was waiting on my G2x to arrive and I will say it is a pretty decent screen shield. Also out of sheer curiosity I ordered a set from T-Mobile and the ones I go from then were the worst ones I have ever seen. They give you these mm thick bullet proof screen shields that you can barely see through. Almost makes your display look like a old school gameboy

No no no, the mm thick one I was referring to was the ones I bought from T-Mobile when I ordered the phone. Those things I swear are thick enough to be bullet proof. The ones you ordered are thin, and clear. You will not even know you have it on the phone when you get it on.

And I do not have any small tools like that sorry.
yea like panowolf suggested use a credit card or something like that to smooth out the screen protector when u put it on. also make sure to clean it extra well, it comes with a couple of cleaning cloths. if you put it on correctly u should be good to go
i read that its reusable. we can just wash it?
the thing is... the crap screen protectors i got from china scratched from the credit card. (lol). or maybe i was just pressing too hard.which still doesnt mke any sense.

Yes you can reuse/wash it. Just be sure to put it on slow. Most people who put them on themselves just lay the entire protector down and try to work the bubbles out. You gotta slowly apply it and work the air out as you go. But im sure you know this already
I ordered the lifetime stealth shieldz from amazon, 2 for 5 bucks in case you needed another for whatever reason. I've only had it on for a couple weeks but it still looks as good as new, feels good no scratches and still perfectly clear.

Check if the carrier or Samsung will replace/repair the phone for you. If you have insurance on your phone w/ your carrier then you can make a claim as well. A replacement screen costs over $200.

That's pretty horrible reasoning. Maybe they don't feel comfortable taking a heat gun to a $400 phone with no guarantee that it will be fixed. Have you ever paid to have a car fixed? I did the head gasket on my mustang and saved my self 3000 but would I think someone was lazy because they took there's too a shop? Of course not they may just not have the technical skills.

i am sending mine in to samsung. As of today cost is 135.31 after shipping both ways. this is to replace glass, lcd and digitizer, sounds like i'll get a new frame too!
**edit**
FYI i lacked the technical skills to do this. my lcd and digitzer was fine. then i tried to remove the glass, well i suck at life and i broke the lcd and cut the digitizer! so im a noob! BFD! and yes i read the how to and watched vids, even had a second set of hands. i would say try it, you're looking at 20 bux nowadays for the glass. if you break it like me its still under $140 to send it in to get it fixed by samsung. better than having some pro screen guy do it, he charges you much more the glass alone.
(if this helped please give me a thanks)
Grab a new screen online (ebay, other sites). Most come with instructions on how to do it, just takes patience.

If you are replacing just the glass yes. If your LCD is busted don't bother. send to samsung, its cheaper than all other options.
i cracked just the glass, bought a new red glass (which i still have in packaging) and 2mm tape (still have too in package) PM if you want them.
in the process of removing old glass, i destroyed my LCD, this is why I'm sending to samsung.
20$ for the glass is definately worth an attempt on your own but research alot before you do, its a tedious and scary process, at least its scary when you see the lcd break...
unless i'm looking in the wrong places, you cant find an LCD/ digitizer/ glass assembly for less than $135.31 shipped.
if you are in a hurry and trust yourself, and money isn't a factor, do it yourself, shipping to samsung will take around 10 days. But if money isn't a factor just buy a new phone and sell yours on ebay!
Knock on glass, I haven't broken the screen on any of my phones... even dropped my SGS3 a couple of times with zero protection on it... whew! :highfive:

That's so perfect. I don't want it to happen to my phone just to prove, but you can attest to durability of HTC One.
Yes, this phone is alot tougher than it looks (and it looks pretty tough) lol. I dropped mine on asphalt from about six feet about an hour after buying it and it landed facedown. No case, no screen protector. No scratches and no dings in the metal. HTC would never warranty their screen for six months unless they were damn sure it wasn't going to break easily. Especially since they are in financial hardship already. It's a big risk. Thankfully, this phone is tough as nails. Not like the S4. I broke three s4 screens in less than a year.
Dropped mine within 24 hours of purchase when it slipped out of my gym shorts exiting the car. Had one minor scuff on the top but a nice small scratch on the back. i was so mad, went and bought a case for it asap.
Consider yourself lucky.

Perfectly. It wasn't a big drop, just shows how easily the back can be scuffed.
Dropped mine at the gym too and wasn't so lucky. Glass shattered. My new case was sitting on my porch for me when I got home so I was about 30 min from getting it when it fell. Called HTC and they sent me a new phone overnight. I'm so lucky they have the 6 month glass warranty. I didn't even consider it when buying the phone, but now I'll buy HTC every time if they keep this warranty going.

Did the exact same thing but getting into the car from the gym - this is one slippery phone. It bounced a few times on the pavement which is not smooth. The left corners are both scuffed up but the screen does not have a scratch on it. No case on it at the time - I only use the case while biking as I have broke too many phones on the MTB.
I was riding my bike over a bridge and heard a *thud* behind me, felt my pocket and phone was gone, looked back and there it was sitting face-down on the bridge lol. Went and picked it up and not a scratch!! Man I love this thing.

So you did the HTC Advantage route? I was curious about that. How exactly does it work? Do you have to send your device to HTC and have them fix it? Or do they just send you a new device?
