[Q] Force phone audio to phone earpiece when connected to Bluetooth device. - General Questions and Answers

Hi, I recently flashed my phone (Galaxy Note 3) with CM 11 and my Galaxy Gear with null_23.
I connected the two of them via Bluetooth and everything seemed to work perfectly, until someone called me...
That was when I noticed that my phone forwards my audio to my gear speakers as it counts equivalently to any bluetooth earpiece. I tried unchecking Phone audio profile in bluetoth device settings but that completely disconnects my gear. (I should probably also mention the reason I want them connected is cause I'm using Bluetooth tethering for internet access on my gear).
I tried using an app I found called SoundAbout that forced audio device but it did so by (unchecking phone audio profile?) disconnecting the gear entirely.. which is not preferable.
I have been trying to search around for any info on how to do this, but all I've ever found has been to do the opposite, force bluetooth over other outputs.
Currently I have to change the output manually every time I answer/call someone, which takes a few sec where the other party wonders why I'm not responding..
I thought I would be able to change default phone audio output in my phone app or something, but no, no such setting is available.. its frustrating to be stuck with so little customisation even after invreasing it with a custom ROM... dang..
Thanks for any help!

[Q] Nexus S bluetooth problems

Hey guys
Strange issue here. I paired my phone with my car through Bluetooth to make and receive calls using the car audio system. It works well.
However, if I fire Google Navigation, I can't here the spoken instructions through either the phone speaker or the car speakers.
I was not expecting navigation audio to be routed through Bluetooth audio, but I did expect the navigation instructions to come out of the phone speaker, as it does on the nexus one or the vibrant both running Android 2.2.
Is anybody else having this issue?
Thanks

did you flash a new kernel or anything because the kernel in the dev thread is known to break bluetooth
if it does this stock out of the box try doing a system restore and then take it back if its still acting up because bluetooth should turn on
yea i used the pkg one that had SU etc on it. Suppose Ill have to flash back to stock arg.
just so peeps know with the bt issue flashing this fixed

Locking up slash rebooting while streaming bluetooth audio
Anyone else experiencing any sort of lockups rebooting streaming bluetooth audio. It seems like I can only get about 10 to 15 minutes streaming audio before the phone becomes completely unresponsive won't power on or anything

You should be thankful...I can't get more then 10 sec without it being cut off and play again...for...10 sec

I had same issue once...i on CM7
Bluetooth doesn't stream audio to car - what's your experience
I've got a Ford Edge with the new Ford MyTouch/Sync system.
The Nexus S connects to the Bluetooth just fine; makes and receives calls perfectly. It will also connect to the Bluetooth Audio Stream for music playback, but won't play the audio over the car's speakers. Also, sometimes it connects, holds the connection for just a few seconds and then disconnects. My SGS and Nexus One work as expected, as does the iPhone, so it doesn't appear to be an issue with the car.
Seems like a bug in the NS to me.
I'm curious if others are streaming audio/music to their auto's BT system without issues?
It would be especially nice to know what anyone else with a new Ford/Lincoln is experiencing, but I'd also like to compile a list of what cars work and what don't.
I'm going to have to find some other BT device that I can test the stream on to see if my phone works with it or not. Maybe my Nexus One dock? I've never used that to stream audio even with the Nexus One.
In terms of troubleshooting my problem, I've already rebooted the phone and the car, un-paired and re-paired the phone with the car.
I've got a Mazda RX8 R3 and the NS will pair with the in-built car BT but drops the connection after a few minutes. It then refuses to connect again unless I re-pair, then a few minutes later it drops and we're back to square one.
The car's in-built BT worked fine with my HTC Desire, Hero, iPhone 3G and Blackberry 9700 so I'm guessing the Nexus S has a Bluetooth issue.
Mine works fine on my aftermarket Sony receiver.
having issues with bluetooth audio too, stream keeps breaking every now and then. Any fixes?
I've only streamed to the car stereo and had no issues. The phone is only about 10cms away.
Haven't tried my BT headphones yet, maybe range is the issue.
*On original ROM.

tried placing the phone right next the the BT reciever and same problem. Only tried this once, maybe I'll try rebooting the phone.
no problem here
using Bionix 1.2
You're lucky, I can't even get BT music streaming to work with my car. No other BT devices to check with besides my Nexus One dock, which has no speakers.
BT works great for the phone, though, to make and receive calls.
Problem with Bluetooth
I cant get to work bluetooth on Nexus S.
When i enable it and try to send something from SGS to Nexus S it says me "This tranfer was canceled by the user" (Nexus S)
SGS says "Remote device rejected your request"
When i try send something from Nexus S, but use not function Send, i use function Bluetooth - it says me "The application Bluetooth Share (process com.android.bluetooth) has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again"
I tried factory reset, wipe cache, tried flash any other roms, but got NOTHING helpt me. I have this problem on 2 phones (2xNS).
Can someone give me files of BlueTooth share? (com.android.bluetooth)
That's an interesting problem you have. Mine did the same thing transfering from my computer to my NS. I just tried it again when I read your post (to make completely sure what the error was) and it has automagically fixed its self.
Well, seems i need a file \system\app\bluetooth.apk

Howto AutoUse BT Pair for Media Audio?

I've touched on this question before but I may have been using some wrong terminology.
On my S3 I have successfully created a BT pairing with a BT Audio Device use which has a steroe out fed into my car's head unit's Aux In.
So, it is Auto-Paired. That is, when I step into my car and turn on the ignition thus powering up the BT Audio Device the paring is available to be used for Media Audio.
However, in order for my phone to route audio to the BT Audio Device I must enter the phone's BT menu and tell the phone to connect to the Device for Media Audio.
I can either do this through the notification pane to see pairings then tap the pairing to use for Media Audio or I can go through settings->BT and do the same thing.
Either way, it's a huge PITA to do this every single time I get into my car.
There has got to be a way to have the phone automatically route Media Audio through this BT Audio Device upon detection. My previous two phones had nowhere near the ability of my S3 but they had no issues whatsoever with automatically pairing and routing audio to this BT Audio Device.
Is the S3 really this stunted in the BT department? If so, is there an app that fixes this stupidity with grace and non-intrusiveness?

I feel ya, in the past, all I had to do was toggle BT on and go, now there's two or three extra steps which almost defeats the use of a toggle.
I just started searching for some answers and am honestly surprised no one else has made a big deal about this. If I find something, I'll post it up... For now, going to take a look at some system files and build.prop stuff, but it's not really my department.
Got some NFC tags and NFC Task Launcher hoping I could circumvent the BS with a hardware hack. But no, the best this does is auto toggle the BT radio and open the device selection screen where 2 more taps are required to actually use the device for media audio. Any new insight out there? Considering Tasker app but it is rather expensive and no free version to see if it does the trick.
My Bluetooth Auto Corrects Just fine to my cars Bluetooth... Toggle on and go. Running AOKP currently but it worked properly on stock, stock rooted, and Synergy as well.
I haven't gotten a chance to try this yet but I probably will tomorrow.
Tasker forum post indicating the problem is well known, prevalent and hardly any fixes exist:

An app that forces the connection amongst other things:

A Tasker plugin leveraging the force connect code which happens to be GPL'd in case any of our fine developers would like to start making ROMs that address this major drawback of using a S3:

I haven't had any trouble with bluetooth devices reconnecting to my phone as soon as I power them on. I'm running cyanogenmod 10 rom.
Also you can get free trial of tasker from here tasker.dinglisch.net/download.html

It seems the issue may be primarily with BT Audio Gateways. I don't have this issue with my laptop at all and I'm imagining car head units rarely see this problem.
That said A2DP Volume App fixed this issue for me. Once configured I did have to manually set the device to use media audio one last time before A2DP Volume started doing it for me. I configured NFC Task Launcher to kill wifi, enable BT and launch A2DP volume when it contacts the tag in my car and it works perfectly. Since NFC Task Launcher front ends into Tasker and Tasker has the A2DP force connect plugin available I'm seriously considering getting Tasker for all the other cool features it can do besides scratching this particular itch.

You can fix this relatively easy by getting the app Tasker. I use it to do things like automatically start the music player I want when headphones are plugged in, to turning up the brightness automatically when I am getting an incoming call, etc. I am fairly certain you could set up the program to do whatever you want via bluetooth if you fiddle with it.
Gluck!

LOL, if you had only read the rest of the thread...
Yeah, Tasker cannot do this OTB but with the A2DP Connect Plugin it can. Or you can just run the A2DP Volume app and do the same for free.
That the A2DP Connect code is GPL it would be super sweet if our developers incorporated the magic into the ROMs so that a base install didn't need apps to do something so simple as automatically route media audio to BT gateways.
This happens to me when I use the wrong settings in my cars head unit. My Toyota gives me the option to pair as a multimedia device, a phone or both. If you set it up as just a multimedia device then you won't have some functionality. Check your head unit manual and try to re-pair. You might have to delete the existing pairing for it to work right.

Yeah, it's not a head unit, it's an audio gateway that basically is just a BT receiver with a stereo out and no interface so it is what it is with no configuration options. This issue with the S3 appears to be primarily related to these types of devices.

Oh okay. When I look under the bluetooth menu in CM10 I have a paired connection that I named Car Multi-Media and if I look at its settings I see profiles called Phone audio and Media audio. I'm guessing you just have a Media audio profile. Not sure how to help you there. Sorry.

Unable to use bluetooth audio

Hi all,
I'm having an issue with my HTC One M8 and using it to stream audio over bluetooth. On my last phone (VZW GS4), when I connected it to my Flex's stereo (Sony SYNC with nav), it would list in the bluetooth pairing as connected to phone & media audio. However now on the HTC One, it only shows phone audio.
I have searched all over and couldn't find any info on this issue and there doesn't seem to be a setting in the stock ROM to set it up. The system still works with the phone when using it for phone calls.
Any ideas?
Cheers,
j
Have you tried re-pairing the phone? I know in my Tundra depending on how I pair the phone, I'll either get audio only or phone and audio. In my 335 it gives me an option what I want to use on the phone (audio, phone, or both). Also if you go into the setting of the pairing on your phone you should be able to put a check beside both audio and phone.
Well I just pulled the fuse for the sync system, so when I get ready to head home, I will try repairing the phone.
No issues with Logitech headphone/mic combo. I've been on vacation for 2 weeks but will be home tomorrow and will promptly attempt pairing to my Hyundai Blue Link system.
Sent from my HTC6525LVW using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
Pulling the fuse for the SYNC system in the Flex corrected the issue. I was able to play Google Music over bluetooth today, was amazeballs...
I just wish that there was an equalizer option in GM like there was on my GS4...

bluetooth no call audio pixel

I used to be able to hear calls and media whilst connected to bluetooth in my car. one day it just stopped working. media still works but when i make a call or receive one, there's no audio. calls ,audio, and contacts are all checked in bluetooth settings. i've forgotten devices, rebooted, reconnecting, and nothing helps.
bluetooth connects to everything fine, but no call sound over any accessory i try. got a new car and it won't work in there either. i'm on android 7.1.2 .
searched all over and plenty of people are having these issues but none of the posts i've read solve my problem. any help would be appreciated
Hey hey, I have a 128GB pixel with the same issue. I actually opened a case with Google support today about it. about 3 months back, only phone audio stopped working in my car. I was hoping the 8.0 update would fix it but it did not. I have a 2017 Honda Civic LX. I tried everything on my phone - even factory reset. Media audio works, I can play Spotify just fine but when i get a call, I can not hear the other person and they cannot hear me. The phone indicates it is connected via bluethooth... I'll try to update this post with what they find.

128G pixel here. This happens with every Bluetooth device I connect it to. 2 car stereos, 2 speakers, and a headset. All worked fine and suddenly one day... Didn't. I was hoping O Would fix it with all the Bluetooth bug fixes and changes they implemented.

Darn, so the issue is a bit different. Mine works fine on a couple of other speakers I have.
Did anyone ever solve this? I've got the same issue, but it effects *all* my Bluetooth devices, but only when I am switched to my secondary user profile.
I've reset the phone app but no dice.
My phone will say it is connected to the Bluetooth device for the phone call. If I switch to speaker or phone and then back to Bluetooth, it works. Anyone else have similar?

Hi!
After hours of Googling you are the first I found who has the same error.
I have a Lenovo TAB4 8+, my kid wants to use Zoom and his Bluetooth headset but only the speaker and mic on the tablet works. I tried fresh install, without luck:
There are 4 type of users:
- Owner (primary - this is the only profile which works for calls on bluetooth headset)
- Standard Users (secondary - bt headset only supports listening: Spotify etc..)
- Child (bt headset only supports listening: Spotify etc..)
- Guest
The bluetooth headset is working with other devices, but not with this one. Unfortunately I have no other android device which supports multi-user.
Moreover, there was an hour when bt call worked from secondary user, but couldn't find out what is the problem.
Can anybody help me on this?
Best regards,
Karoly

Question Bluetooth in my car only switches on for calls not audio

I upgraded to s22 ultra from s21. When I get into my car my Bluetooth pairs with my phone for CALLS automatically, however not for AUDIO (both connect on its own once in a while) . I have to manually go into Bluetooth settings and switch on manually. This is annoying since I have a job where I'm in and out of my car. This was never an issue with my previous phone (S21)
Things I have tried but no luck.
In Bluetooth app settings clear data.
In Bluetooth app setting unpair and delete every device in memory.
In Bluetooth agent setting - change battery saving mode to unrestricted from optimized
Hmmm that seems strange.. Maybe try making sure auto is checked in the bluetooth seetings. I have the same phone and I'm not experiencing audio issues.
maybe try running a routine for the bluetooth
There is definitely something wrong with BT in the latest firmware. I occasionally get volume drops and those are huge drops. This bug happened in one or two previous firmware too, got sorted out, but in the latest there is it again. I hope it will be fixed ASAP.
Is it a Ford ?
You have to manually select the phone in Source to play audio or anything else.
Calls take priority over any setting, so they work always without an issue.

It's an aftermarket Bluetooth added to an old Honda via peripheral plugged into the stock cd player unit. I am going to try and disconnecting the battery terminals for 30 mins so I can reset the Bluetooth unit itself.
When I have my car bluetooth device connected as "audio" only, then I have to manually connect to it from my phone.
When I have my car bluetooth device connected as "audio & calls" , then the s22 ultra connects automatically
I recall reading that audio+calls connects automatically
Audio only requires manual connection
I drive a 2017 Ford F150 but I think its not a Ford issue
