Fellow XDA'ers:
I've tried asking this in the "Unlocking additional LTE bands" thread, but haven't had any success. From that thread, it seems possible to unlock LTE band 5 on the One, although it does say that not all bands can be used due to "hardware limitations". From what I've read, that seems to be limited to Band 20 though.
My question is: has anyone successfully got the One working on LTE Band 5 (850mhz)? It's the only LTE band available in Vermont at this time. I followed the instructions and changed all the NVRAM values, but I can't get LTE to work. I know 850mhz here is shared between GSM and LTE. Is there something else I need to do besides editing the values? Do I have to select any bands in software? When I dial *#*#4636#*#* I have LTE/GSM (PRL) selected, "Automatic" under band selection, and then I have LTE set in Cyanogenmod.
Any input is greatly appreciated!
I assume you double-checked after reboot that the values remained in place? Did you do the rmt_storage patch? Without the patch, the values wont stick in the latest modems.
Yes, I've double checked to make sure the values survive a reboot. I also used the patch. After some research it looks like there may be an issue when band 6 and band 19 are enabled that causes Band 5 to not work on LTE. The problem is that I don't know what NV value I should use to only enable LTE bands 2/4/5/17. Is there a way to calculate this value?
Yes, you can use NV Item calculator from here:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.vndnguyen.nvcalc&hl=en
The NV Items are standard across all Qualcomm based devices.
Thank you! I calculated the value for bands 2/4/5/7/17 (matching what is available on the HTC One (M8). I'll give it a test this afternoon.
Still no LTE love here in Vermont. I used the NV Calculator to determine the NV 6828 value for bands 2/4/5/7/17. That value came out to be 65,626, which I input as 65626. I wrote the file, rebooted the phone, and verified that the settings kept.
My iPhone is connected to LTE on Band 5. My OnePlus just won't connect.
Are there any other settings that may need to be changed?
Did you update 6829 as well? I believe one is the supported bands, while the other tells the it which of those supported bands to use.

Yes, I did change both the 6828 and 6829 values. LTE is selected under mobile networks in Cyanogenmod, and LTE/GSM (PRL) is selected under *#*#4636#*#*. The band selection is set to automatic.
Mistakes may be easier to spot with some screenshots:

Hmm, I don't see anything wrong.
I guess one last thing to do is able band 5 only and see if it works.
I tried that as well. For some reason the phone can connect to 850mhz on GSM, but not 850mhz on LTE. I can say for sure that the OPO does not support LTE on Band 5 even if the band is theoretically unlocked.
Have there been many people who can confirm that this unlocking method works at all for the Chinese OPO? I've been trying to get Bands 4 and 7 to work and I can't get anything above H+. Does this only work on a certain ROM/version by chance?

The method used on the global version of the OPO isn't specific to that version. All qualcomm-based devices are subject to the same method. You can find more information here for the OnePlus (both global and Chinese variants), and here for other qualcomm models such as the Galaxy S5. Both forums show that many people have had success unlocking additional bands.
Now comes the bad news. Just because you theoretically enable a band on the phone doesn't mean that it will work - as is the case with Band 5 on the global version of the OPO that i'm using. The phone also needs to have the correct antennas to connect to those bands. In my case, I can connect to GSM using the 850mhz band, but for some reason the same band cannot be used for Band 5 LTE (850mhz). I don't understand why this is the case, but I have yet to be able to get it to work.
Your luck may be better. It looks like the Chinese version runs bands 1/3/7. The global version is 1/3/4/7/17/38/40. If they do indeed have the exact same hardware inside, then a simple software unlock SHOULD allow you to turn the Chinese version into the global version. If they have a different antenna, then your results may vary.
As far as I know, there is no specific version or ROM that you have to have. If you have one of the newer versions of the software, you need to be rooted and install the RMT patch. See the first link I posted above for information on how to do that.

Been to that thread, it's kinda dead now. Followed the instructions and don't get LTE bands 4 or 7 with Virgin/Bell, does that mean the Chinese OPO doesn't have the required hardware after all for those bands? Maybe Band 7 is not available in my area but then 4 must be since I had LTE on my other phones. Or maybe my phone is just faulty. Would love to know if there is anyone successfully using a Chinese OPO on the Bell LTE network.

Hey man!! we know Nexus 5 D821 is 4G lte suppored.. but in India Lte is launched by airtel in some states using Band 40 2300mhz TD-LTE . So i wanted to know if its working or not ? (Indian lte = band 40 2300mhz TD-LTE).
I checked out some xda forums that says Lg g2 has snapdragon 800 and is capable of 4g lte In india. it does just require software update to do so! Is this true? (link = http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2455684&page=4 CHECK OUT POST NO. 35 and 39)

D821 Indian version does not support band 40 so I doubt it will be possible and another thing As per I know radio signals does not only depend upon the processor, there is much more than that.

The Snapdragon 800 radio can only physically handle 7 LTE bands at the same time. If it could handle more, there would be no need for a D820 and a D821.
Now I am not sure how these bands are controlled on the WRT1605L. It will either be physical hardware configuration (different MSM8974 in D820 or D821) or Software (firmware) however, even if it is the latter, don't get your hopes up. It would not be possible for us to change the firmware of the radio.

I think iphone 5s and 5c also have the same receiver and they recently got a carrier update in India and now they do support 4g in India....I think the hardware supports it but you could tell us more about it?
The hardware may support it if it is pre-configured at the factory. Nexus 5 is not.

Because it was limited by software, not at a hardware level. Different phone. Different radio configuration. They cannot change the physical limitations. They did not change the physical limitations. They just allowed it in software.
The radio is limited to 7 bands so if your radio has all 7 bands used and your band is not one if them then you're out if luck. Both nexus models are already configured for maximum bands
Edit> Let me try to put this another way. The hardware is limited to 7 bands. Google / LGE whatever realised with the Nexus 5 that they could use the hardware to it's maximum capacity in 2 models (7 bands) and cover all the regions that they planned to release to at the time of release. So both the D820 and D821 are at maximum band capacity.
Some other phones that may use the same radio may be released in more geographical areas and need more than 2 models, so they release 3 but instead of for example releasing 2 capable of 7 bands and a 3rd capable of 2 (for example), they release 3 capable of 3 bands each (again, for example)... So these 3 phones still have 4 unused bands left, unlike Nexus 5 which has 0 free bands.
So either the band is already there or it is not. There is no "software update" that can "unlock" additional bands. The radio hardware must be "reconfigured" completely. All capable bands are already available on tehe Nexus. To "add" a band would mean a band needs replacing which as yet, is not possible.
As I said earlier, I am not sure if the radio is physically configured or firmware managed but it is done at the factory. Whether they can do something in future (if it is the latter) remains to be seen but certainly at the moment, there is nothing that can be done.

Delhi NCR got FDD-LTE(Band 3) + TDD-LTE(Band 40) from Airtel, it works fine on my Nexus 5. I was in a low signal region and tested the speeds on the Nexus 5(supports only band 3) and Redmi Note 4g (supports both band 3 and band 40)
The results were:
N5: 5.6mbps/1.84mbps 37ms ping
Redmi Note 4g: 5.75mbps/1.05mbps 55ms ping
The speeds are really low for LTE but the signal strength was at best -107dBm. I will probably test once again when I get a good signal.

Will Airtel 4G work on my Nexus 5 in Maharashtra?
Will Airtel 4G work on my Nexus 5 in Maharashtra? I guess the customer care told me in Maharashtra they are using FDD.
They further mentioned that I will get 4G Speeds, but I might still see H+ on the handset instead of LTE.
Confused!!!! Should I go for 4G for not?

Get the free 4G sim from any airtel store, only a 2minute form fill up and a message to 121 is required.
Put the phone in LTE mode in settings.
Download LTE Discovery from playstore to see if you get LTE signals and the signal strength (-95dBm or more would be OK)
If you get LTE signals and the phone registers fine on LTE then you can subscribe a 1 day 3g pack to check speeds, if all goes well then you should be good to go with 4g.

Thanks for your quick response. I have already taken the 4g sim however the airtel gallery folks said that 4g LTE is not compatible with Nexus 5. Even the device 4g combability test on airtel's website shows an exclamation mark.
I am by no means getting LTE, even though in settings LTE mode is enabled. Have downloaded LTE Discovery app too, but no luck.
Any other thing I am missing out on? Are other users in Maharashtra also facing a similar issue?
Nexus 5 doesnt support band 40 (tdd-lte), band used by airtel for LTE in many circles. So that is why it isn't listed online on airtel's checklist. Delhi-NCR got both TDD-LTE and FDD-LTE, so nexus 5 works here.
Anyway, right now its not worth it. Very expensive and totally not worth it. Other telcos will use FDD-LTE, which is supported by Nexus 5. So, by that time the rates and QoS will be better and the nexus 5 will be supported.
I've been trying to find the LTE bands for the International/European version of the S6/edge for a couple weeks now but have had no luck with any sites I trust. I was able to come across this site: http://pdadb.net/index.php?m=specs&...g925f_galaxy_s6_edge_lte-a_128gb_samsung_zero
Does anyone know how accurate this site is or know of where I might be able to find trustworthy specs?

It means the phone(s) should work on both AT&T and T-Mobile. AT&T uses bands 2, 4, and 17. T-Mobile uses 2, 4, and 12. The International version supposedly supports 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 7, 8, 18, 19, 20, 26.

Where there are cell towers that are broadcasting using bands 12 or 17, you will not be able to get LTE coverage, but you will be able to get coverages for towers broadcasting on bands 2 and 4. Your real world coverage will depend on where you live and how each carrier has decided to configure their networks, but you will be able to have LTE for both.
[edit] Both 12 and 17 are 700mhz frequencies, which means that indoor coverage will not be as good if you don't have those frequencies. So that's a trade-off you might want to think about before going with the International version. Though for the most part, many people will have access to a wi-fi network while at work and at home, which I assume would be where most people would be for most of their day.
From what I've been reading, WiFi calling/texting features only work if you buy a T-Mobile specific device. Any other phones used on T-Mobile won't work with WiFi calling/texting features. That alone is the reason I would not buy an international phone and use it on T-Mobile.

Hi guys,
I have noticed that the verison I can purchase in France is the SM-G920FZ-02. Is it the same thing as the SM-G920F ?
I am unable to find the LTE bands for this version...
If it is not the case, I guess i could just get the SM-G920F from another country ? I've seen it on the UK version of the Samsung website.
I'm travelling a lot between Europe and the US so it's one of my main concerns but apparently Samsung doesn't give too much information on this yet!
FCC filing show the international model will support LTE band 2, 4, 12 among others: https://apps.fcc.gov/oetcf/eas/repo...ame=N&application_id=794688&fcc_id=A3LSMG920F
Based on the info so far in this thread , it would seem like a safe conclusion that the 920F international version would indeed work fine on the AT&T LTE network
So does it support 12 and 17?? I'd be interested in getting the international for ATT. Just not sure what will and won't work

Band 17 is a subband of 12 (12 is the larger scope that includes 17 in it). The S6 920F support band 12 so it should work on AT&T just fine.
Bands 4 and 2 which are also used by AT&T are also supported according to the FCC documents so i assume the international model 920F should work just fine.
I can't be sure the same about other 920X models out there.
Does anyone know the difference between the 920F and the 9200?

Samsung I9200 is the Galaxy Mega. Is that what you're referring to?
I realised that there are commonly 2 available international versions, SM-920F (European?) and SM-920I (Rest of the world?). Wondering if anyone has the LTE specifications for the SM-920I version?
Edit (4 April): Found the answer to my own question at the Singapore Samsung website (under Specifications). So LTE Bands 1,2,3,5,7,8,12,17,18,19,26,28. No Band 4 though. I'm guessing that would greatly degrade the LTE experience with AT&T and T-Mobile?
4G+ LTE Cat 6 up to 300Mbps, VoLTE, 4G+ LTE FDD [Band 1 (2100MHz)/ Band 2 (1900MHz)/ Band 3 (1800MHz)/ Band 5 (850MHz)/ Band 7 (2600MHz)/ Band 8 (900MHz)/ Band 12 (700MHz)/ Band 17 (700MHz)/ Band 18 (800MHz)/ Band 19 (800MHz)/ Band 26 (800MHz) Band 28 (700MHz)], 4G+ LTE TDD [Band 40 (2300MHz)]

Edit (8 April): Interestingly, the Australian Samsung website for the same model (SM-G920I) shows that Band 4 is supported. I'm totally confused now as to whether this particular model supports LTE Band 4.
4G FDD LTE B1(2100), B2(1900), B3(1800), B4(AWS), B5(850), B7(2600), B8(900), B12(700), B17(700), B18(800), B19(800), B26(800), B28(700)

I finally broke down and went ahead and had my Sprint S5 G900P "paperweight" unlocked with idone.apps as the price went down to $35. It works great with 3g and HSPA+; no complaints with data speeds. But, Id like to unlock the potential of the TMO LTE bands just for the sake that it can be done. There was/is a thread on here on XDA about unlocking LTE bands with devices running a rooted Qualcomm soc, but it wasn't device specific (at least not my device- Sprint SM-G900P) and the threads' now been closed. Can anyone point me to a specific tutorial where I can free up LTE bands on my Sprint SM-G900P to use on TMO carrier?

In theory the contents of that thread should still apply, you'll just need to do the appropriate math to turn on LTE bands 2 and 4, and possibly the 1700 AWS band. (I have the LTE bands enabled on my device and cannot get LTE, but I'm unable to get the AWS band enabled, so it's possible that is required first. not entirely sure on that aspect).
Edit: For reference, this thread is S5 specific. There's a report of band 4 success on a G900P, but I have been unable to duplicate)

Do post back how things go, I'm curious to know whether mine is just an exception or whether it's something I'm doing wrong and it is possible.

Yeah, that was the thread I was talking about. It's a long thread and of course didn't read all the way through it. I did however search the thread but the results for "g9oop" or sprint s5 were sparse and vague. Also, im not familiar with the programs and methods used ( I'm not a dev by any means but highly intrigued by it). I was hoping there was a specific thread for the g900p with specific directions/exact roms and kernels that could be used. I see too much room for me to screw my phone up with that thread, but thank you for pointing me in right direction.

Right now I get GSM, Edge, H & H+ and it's plenty fast for me. I only see EDGE or GSM if I'm way out in the mountains, but I'm mostly on H and H+, and with 1 MB per second download speed it's faster than I actually need . Yes there was a report of band 4 success on a G900P on that thread, but it was a "report" and haven't seen any proof. But then again I didn't exactly scour the thread. T-mobile is refarming and I will have native 1900 LTE soon enough.
Those considering to use the LG V20 Dual Sim in the US should pick the H990N instead the H990DS because is the only Dual-Sim version to support AT&T's LTE bands 17, and Sprints band 26, notwithstanding the DS is faster and both version support T-Mobile bands, those looking to use the 2nd sim as carrier backup service likely will pick AT&T or Sprint as secondary or main line.
The original post was based on information available from 3rd about H990DS and H990N, none indicated the N990DS to support LTE B17, while some users reported it actually support that band, information confirmed from LG's Taiwan site confirms LG V20 N990DS actually supports LTE B17, accordingly this post is unfounded and moot.
Moderators, please close thread.

Hate to burst your bubble but you are incorrect. I have the DS with both tmo and att. Grtting band 17 just fine.
According to both these sources H990DS is missing band 17. H990N seems perfect for me, it has band 17 (in addition for 2&4 for AT&T), also has band 1 that the US996 is missing which I need for the occasional visit to Japan.

Seems the H990N the best deal for Travelers.
According to LG's Taiwan website, the H990DS supports bands 1 and 17 but not 26. It's highly unlikely LG would release a phone in Taiwan that didn't work in Japan. I can read Chinese by the way.
Most if not all android phones will work in japan, 4G is not always suitable, but 3G 2100 is available and japan supports it.
LTE B17 is ONLY OPTION IN: BAHAMAS, CAYMAN IS, ANGUILLA, and JAMAICA. or 3G
Others Networks using B17 are in markets where you have at least one alternative (available on both V20s) as USA (AT&T) where you can go on T-MO where no AT&T B17.
LTE B26 only user yet is Sprint (acc Wikipedia) also only in few areas, where you also have alternatives from other networks.

its rigth, no need to speak chinese http://www.lg.com/tw/smart-phones/lg-LGH990ds
Thanks for posting the TW site. Im really happy if the H990DS supports band 17 according to the site. Not sure if all other sites are quoting frequency check, as every other site I googled quoted H990DS specs as without band 17.
If anyone has an H990DS, would you be able to check the following?
Enter Engineering mode:
On my V10 H960A, code is *#546368#*960# (Not sure if this is the right code for V20, may need to replace 960 with 990)
Field Test
Modem Settings
Engineering mode
Previous
You should be in the "LTE information" page. It should show what LTE band you're connected to. If anyone can verify and post a screenshot and band 17 I'd greatly appreciate it.
Thanks in advance.

Hi everyone!
I'm considering buying a Xiaomi 13 while I'm still in China and flashing the Xiaomi eu ROM. The CN version is much cheaper than the global one. I'm a T-Mobile customer and wondering if anyone has used a CN Xiaomi 13 in the US before? I've heard that sometimes the CN version Xiaomi phone may have issues to fully use 5g or 4g network in the US. Please share your experience here, and thank you for your time!

Cn 5g 1/4 bands 4g 2/6 bands
Global. 5g 2/4 Bands 4g 5/6 bands

I came across something interesting. This website actually compares the band coverage difference between the CN and the global version. It seems the CN ones normally get lower coverage, but I still have no idea how bad it could be since I have no idea what type of bands are covering my living area...

Thank you man!
I'm also in the US using Google Fi which uses T-Mobile. I'm also dual SIM with ATT.
I ended up getting the Global version because it had more supported bands even though it was more expensive... Ended up getting the 12/256 for $860 on eBay.

Aloha,
Wonder if you can help? I purchased a 13 pro and having a hard time connecting to T-Mobile service. I have been working with tech support and I'm unable to make and receive phone calls. When I try to make calls the service drops. Im able to use data (internet) but unable to use the basic phone functions. Could you please let me know the apn settings that your using or have any suggestions on how I can get this service to work? I'm in the US.

Here you go.
Mahalo for you quick response. So you default is the epc I would assume. Let me try. Did you do any other tweeking to the apns? My other question would be is the sim with the att getting the service and not the T-Mobile? Have you tried with just the T-Mobile sim?
Did you ever get this squared away ? I am looking to buy the 13 pro within the next day or 2

The CN versions should function, though you'll likely experience signal outages due to only having a few of the frequencies. If you're looking to use the 13 in the USA, then the global version is what you'll be better off with.
I have a CN version phone and MintMobile (reseller of T-Mobile) SIM. It works fine. Plug & play. No special setting needed.
