Rooted but really not rooted?!?! - Android General

I have an HTC One M8 verizon phone with 4.4 kitkat installed and I recently bought sunshine for $25 and looked everywhere to get s-off and I finally have cyanogenmod 12 on my phone.
The thing that trips me out here though is that I somehow with the steps that I found online I was able to successfully manage to root my phone and download twrp recovery and flash the roms BUT when I go and look if I am rooted with the Root Checker app it says that I am not rooted. Also, when I turn my phone to bootloader (turning phone off then holding both the power button and the down volume side key) it tells me I have s-off and also unlocked. I was having difficulties with gaining temp root that way I could use sunshine with the weaksauace app but sunshine did its own temp root and after that i was able to start rooting my phone and flashing apps.
I downloaded an app for emoji changer, yeah i dont like the google emojis, it worked for a bit but later on it stopped working and i tried to get the emojis back and it kept asking me if im rooted.
Anybody got any ideas? thats why the title it is what it is lol

your device is not properly rooted
hello, i think u cant successfully root your android device.first install the custom recovery and then before flashing the zip u need to clear the dalvik cache two times.then try

Ia really good aplication ?

[Q] How come i cant get Root access?

Ok so im a noob to this android thing, ive successfully rooted my phone twice with super one click and it worked perfect but as soon as i flashed my phone with "odin Ec10 with root+cw" it all went crazy. i could not get root access from any of my apps. So i used odin to flash it back to 2.1 and rooted it with super one click, bt when it sent the SU test i got nothing, i downloaded root checker and tested to see if i had it rooted but it gave me this:
Root acess is not properly configured or was not granted
SU binary not found in the system declared path.
Now i flashed 2.2 with odin and its still giving me the same thing. super one click is not doing its job and im stuck with an unrooted phone. i also tried restoring to factory settings and wiping cache but still nothing. maybe something messed up in the system folder or something idk, if you need more info ill answer anything, ill be active on the forum for a while.
Check and make sure USB Debugging is enabled in the phone's settings under Applications -> Development.
i tried that, still didnt work.
This may sound a bit stupid but have you tried rebooting the phone? I've flashed ROMs before where I wouldn't get SU access on the initial boot and had to reboot it to get it to start doing its thing.
ok i got it!!!! I guess SUper One Click only roots my phone when i start Super One click and wait for it to way "waiting for device" i turn on my phone, as the Samsung logo pops up S.O.C. starts rooting it Correctly. Finally after my 12th flash (lol) it works. thanks anyways guys. Hopefully no one else has this problem.
Strange, but hey, whatever works. Glad you got it fixed.
Evo 3D on Android 4.0.3, root fail
I had updated my HTC Evo 3D OTA from 2.3.3 to Android 4.0.3 software version 3.28.707.1 then unlocked it using HTC Method. Unlock success than I flashed recovery with CWM Shooter. Flash success but when I load recovery, the phone just boot up normally. CWM screen not loaded to load custom ROM.
When I open ROM Manager it says:
You must root your phone for ROM Manager to function. Superuser was not found at "/system/bin/su" or "/system/xbin/su". Use Google Search on your computer to find instruction to root your phone.
When I open SUperuser apps it says:
su binary not found
I already tried USB debugging mode, and flash with other .img with other version of CWM. Still not working.

[Q] New to HTC

I've only had samsung and google devices in the past. I know odin but what is the HTC version? Sync manager?
I'm asking because I tried to root and s-off with weaksauce2 and sunshine on 4.4.4. The thread said it was hit and miss but mine seemed to work. Sunshine took my money and I have root but I can't get TWRP to install. Also sometimes I seem to loose root. It's probably something I'm doing wrong but it seems easier on samsung devices (only because I know them).
Looks like I finally have s-off and even though TWRP manager crashed I'm in and making a backup now.
Finally I have my phone to myself and can get verizon's bloat off.

[Completed] lg g2 vs98027a verizon 4.4.2 cant update binaries

Hello everyone i am new to the forums and i am asking a question regarding updating the su binaries on my phone. I got my g2 back in november because they were out of one m7s and this was the second best phone. So i went home and figured id root it. I didnt really want a rom i just like being able to record my screen and mess with the clocks. So none of the ways to root this phone worked so i tired this one in chinese. I succesfully rooted my phon. And it installed supersu. It said i needed to update the binaries so i hit ok. It said it failed. I tried updateing them by moving the .su directly to the folder, but sense i dont even have root permissions because i dint have a .su, it was unsuccessful. So what are my options? Im only 14 and kinda new at rooting, i have done it on two phones before, so please keep it simple. I dont care about keeping my data so i can i flash a stock rom? I. Tried it before but the method was for the 16 gig version which used a kdz file and sense i have a 32 gig version i needed a different file for some reason. In my phone settings it says im rooted and in recovery mode it o whatever pressing vol down and power with a usb connected do does, it says so to. I do NOT have access and i cant figure out how to update the .su and i could really use some help. Could you give me a link or something showing me how to flash a stock rom, or cyanogenmod? Or just getting a way to update the .su would be fine. Sorry for the long description i just want it to be easy for you to diagnose my problem.
Thanks,
Riley

You can check this thread about root on your device: [Root] Stump Root for LG Devices (2012 - 2014) Big update 1.2.0.
And here is the SuperSu app thread: [STABLE][2015.01.20] SuperSU v2.45.
In the first post there is also a zip file for flashing in custom recovery. If you use this, you won't need the binaries updating process like after updating via Play store.
For registered users, there is more help in the root Q&A thread for your device, and for the SuperSU app update in the SuperSU support thread.
Thread closed. Thank you.

ZTE Z830 (Compel) Rooting Thread

ZTE Z830: As some of you (who have recently broke your high-end devices like me!) know this is a cheap "GoPhone" you might have purchased as a replacement. As some of us know: the phones Hardware isn't bad for a low-end device. All very capable. The problem however; THE DAMN RESTRICTIONS ZTE HAS PUT ON THE PHONE.
Here are the problems in case you don't own a Z830:
No Apps are allowed on the SD-card
The bloatware cannot be uninstalled
Almost no internal memory (ZTE claims "4 Gigs of internal storage" but there is only around 800MB when disabling all unnecessary apps)
Anyways if you are stuck like me and have been suckered into buying this prepackaged paperweight. You most likely have one goal: ROOT IT. Which is the main point of this thread; as all of the other forum posts about this phone seem to be with people who have even less knowledge than I have about rooting. I want to figure out how to root this phone so it can live up to its capabilities.
I'm posting here about the methods I've been trying to root this phone with; so someone who has more knowledge about general rooting and coding then they can chime in and add some info.
First Attempt (FAILED) to Root the Device
ALSO KNOWN AS UPDATE.ZIPThe BREAKTHROUGH Information: I've managed to find the stock recovery from the phone's firmware. By pressing Volume Up + Power I got into the phones menu with various options to "update the firmware" It looks like this:
Android system recovery <
Z830V1 . 0 . 0B14
Volume up/down to move
highlight;
Press power to select.
reboot system now
apply update from ADB
wipe data/factory reset
wipe cache partition
apply update from sdcard
apply update from cache
md5 cache
So I tried to the original rooting method and this is what happened
-- Install /sdcard ...
(Installs about 25%)
Package corrupt.
Installation aborted.
So anyways: I would love some help trying to discover how to root this damn thing. If you own one of these and find some more breakthrough info I would love to know; because I am as well messing with this thing to see if this will ever work.
Just Tried TowelRoot. Doesn't support the z830.
Bump
I didn't want to post a new thread, is there any new information on this front? It doesn't seem like this was a popular enough phone to warrant it's own set of instructions
**************************************
A few of us were successful in finding a perm root. I know the phone has aged a bit now, but it really is a nice cheap spare phone without the bloatware.
The following instructions for the ZMAX worked perfectly but TWRP does not support the touch screen for the z830 so you have to use an OTG mouse to use TWRP. Touch functionality works fine once the entire process is complete. Uninstalling bloatware seems to have to be done with a 3rd party app such as Purify.

Does adb work on your device? What are the different modes for your devices? Can you get into the bootloader?

Hey, I decided to pitch in as I also have this unfortunate phone. adb does in fact work, but it is crippled. I cannot perform "adb reboot bootloader" as it will simply reboot the phone normally. I tried to boot into the bootloader by pressing volume down+power and was entered into field test mode, as I have come to understand (says FTM on a white rectangle). Volume UP + power does put me in recovery mode, which is cool. Most interestingly, hold UP+DOWN+POWER mounts on my windows machine as ZTE handset diagnostic interface DFU... which apparently is made for flashing firmware with zte's own utility. adb reboot fastboot also just rebooted it normally.
if anyone knows of a useful test i could perform or a could point me towards new strategies i would appreciate it.
Well that sounds promising. It seems like we're breaking new ground here though.

Do you think there is something that can be used to flash our own custom firmware on it?
Please someone bump
I have the same phone and it's about worthless without root. Hopefully someone cam figure it out. I would even donate some cash for a solution.
Sort of temporary root achieved with KingRoot
So, I have this goofy phone and I did manage to get something that appears to be root using KingRoot. The PC version didn't work, and neither did TowelRoot or OneClickRoot. Downloading the apk for KingRoot and running it gave me root access, but only until I rebooted the phone. I managed to install SuperSU which allowed me to confirm that I had root. Unfortunately I was not able to uninstall any pre-loaded software while rooted via KingRoot or KingUser. KingRoot acted like it had successfully uninstalled the pre-installed software, but all it uninstalled were the updates. I didn't get a list of software when I tried to uninstall software via KingUser.
So we can boot into Recovery, and can get temporary root. Any ideas on how to get farther with this crippled phone?

Did you actually gain any space when you uninstalled items with that temporary root? I am able to uninstall updates on default apps even without root. I had one time with KingoApp where it claimed to be rooted, but I lost it with reboot and haven't gotten it back. Very frustrating. Wish I had avoided the reboot.
nothing works
I too got temporary root with kingroot, got to ambitious with uninstalling system apps and got into a force close loop. A factory reset from the stock recovery got me back in business. I didn't think that a factory reset was supposed to recover apps deleted while in root access. Also kingroot didn't work the first time for me, had to try several times, that was with latest apk, 4.1 I think.
Has anyone contacted zte about a bootloader unlock code? I know most phones it is necessary to unlock the bootloader to gain permanent root access. Plus then maybe we could get a custom recovery. I tried contacting them with no luck.
Talked to zte today, won't give unlock code since it will void warranty. Told them I didn't care about warranty since phone is worthless as is, no luck.
It could work the method used in the ZTE Z970? http://forum.xda-developers.com/general/help/zte-zmax-rooted-kingroot-t3110178
I was able to get temp root with Kingroot but doesn't stick after reboot. Today I got root to stick by using Flashify to flash superuser zip (http://download.chainfire.eu/supersu). I then deleted Kingroot apps. I was able to uninstall some ATT apps but not google apps. I tried SD Card Fix but didn't work and still can't change/mount r/w in root explorer.

[Q] Root for BLU Studio D651-- 6.0 HD

I have read the other threads numerous times, and for the life of me can't get this phone rooted.
It is the D651 version and it's running Lollipop from an OTA update.
I tried rooting before allowing the update, but couldn't get that to work, so I decided to go ahead and update to lollipop thinking that would solve my problem
NOT!
I've tried KingoApp---FAILED
iRoot----FAILED, both phone version and computer version
Towelroot----FAILED
Does ANYONE have any suggestions?
I downloaded MTK Engineering, and went into MTK Settings/Log and Debugging/User2Root/Root
but that didn't seem to do anything either.....not sure why I even did that other than reading in one of the other threads to go into engineering mode and allow root.....I'm assuming that's what this means?
I am really getting frustrated by this...please, if anyone can offer any tips/tricks/or insight on what I am doing wrong, it would be greatly appreciated.....
Try Kingroot
First excuse my English but I'm using google , you need to download Aptoide ( which is an alternative app store ) from Aptoide you write browser and then install it , and looking for the KIGROOT installed application to appear clicking on the ' look at other stores " there will KINGROOT appear with an icon of lightning , is in Chinese , click on the icon and wait until the middle of root, then check with root checker , you then recommend to be root to delete the store of Aptoide.
Install a kind of SU called Kinguser , I install CWM or Philz , when I have you posting like . good Luck

Hello Buddy i just got this phone and the 1st thing i did was update it because it was on kk know it is lolypop and i used kingo root method and workede like a charm. it also gave me kinguser and purify..
Yeah, I managed to get it to work also.
Then went so far as removing Kinguser and replaced it with SuperUser.
Caused a bunch of problems in doing so, but managed to get everything in working order......to an extent.
Now, no matter how many times I try, I can not unroot or return to factory settings.
Even wiping the phone and flashing stock/recovery doesn't seem to work.
I've been trying to 'wipe' the phone and return it to out of the box status several times but.....no joy.
I'm going on a huntch
Means this is mtek phone
Thinking back to moto g the xt we had to get a unlock code from Motorola and use the n send this extra long key by email to moto for exchange of an unlock code.
Anyone think maybe same rule might apply?? Just guessing cause I want to see this thing unlocked an going cause this audio is really weak on my end and the touch screen is the pits when typing its like 50 x then it types the letter
I noticed after I used king root everything I changed started to go back to the way it was n or disappeared.
Kingroot seemed to work
Seems to work only for awhile until you start trying to make heavy system changesit starts to bugger up. I got that same page its in my opinion a temporary exploit method.
