[Q] One Mini Unable to flash recovery "IMAGE UPDATE ERROR" - HTC One Mini

Hi, I have a unlocked HTC One Mini S-ON, not sure if root is still there.
I had it loaded with One-Hybrid-Rom, which used to work fine.
Whenever the phone runs out of battery and I recharge it, after trying to reboot, I always get bootloader.
I have to reboot boatloader 100 times before I finally get the HTC screen and the Rom boots up.
Once the rom is loaded, the phone works fine.
Also, in bootloader, I can NOT enter recovery. When I select "Recovery", it gets back to the same bootloader screen.
So I tried flashing the recovery partition with all kinds of versions of twrp and cwm.
The phone is perfectly connected with adb, fastboot. I use fastboot flash firmware to try and flash the recovery, but it ALWAYS gives me the same error, it is able to send the file to the phone perfectly, but when it starts writing I get "IMAGE UPDATE ERROR".
I have tried literally everything to get the recovery partition working again, but all fails.
As I said, once the phone is booted up, it is working fine...
Is there a fix for this issue? It is just impossible to reboot the phone 100 times before the rom loads.
Thanks a lot guys.

No one?

No-one willing to help me on an unflashable recovery partition?
Sometimes phone boots into modded OS and runs perfectly, but mostly (99 out of 100 times) it just reboots to bootloader,
unable to enter recovery.
When flashing recovery (I tried all possible recoveries) via fastboot, it connects, but then I get "Failed, image update error"..;
I would really like to use this phone again...
It is S-ON, Unlocked, Hboot-2.21
Thanks.

[Q] Help! "no boot or recovery img"

I've been trying to flash a new rom, and I can't. Fastboot pops up every time I try to boot recovery saying "No boot or recovery image"
My phone still boots it's rom normally and can connect to the computer via usb just fine, but I've tried flashing several different CWM recoveries and none of them work, it all just gives this same error. I can't re-flash now, and this rom is not working well. What do I do?

are you spelling the name of the recovery correctly? is the recovery file(.img) in the same folder in your computer as fastboot is?
Search "flash image GUI" I think, here on xda, on the thread download the apk, then install on your phone, then go to rom manager the WEBSITE, find a recovery image that corresponds with your phone then download it. Now go to flash image gui and flash the CWR image you just got like 2 or 3 times just so it sticks now see if it works.
Nevermind, as simms said (didn't read properly). You can use the tab key to autofinish the name of the recovery.
Hi guys, I found the problem, but thank you all for your suggestions. the problem was my fastboot was still locked! (I'm not sure how I got this far without unlocking it, but now it's moot) Anyways, it works now, and all is well. Thanks!

[Q] SOLVED Problem flashing CyanogenMod 9.1.0 Stable

I rooted my MT4GS a few months ago but stuck with the stock ROM. I decided I wanted to try out the CyanogenMod 9.1 ICS ROM. I followed the following steps:
1) Installed ROM Manager.
2) ROM Manager indicated a newer version of ClockworkMod Recovery and I installed it (5.0.2.7).
3) Using ROM Manager, did a full backup of the current ROM. All went well.
4) Using ROM Manager, downloaded and installed CyanogenMod 9.1.0 stable-doubleshot. I specified to wipe the data and cache partitions. The installation seemed to go normally.
When the phone rebooted, it was stuck at the logo screen. Had to remove the battery to turn it off. Tried a couple times, still the same.
Since I had the backup, I decided I would use CWM to restore the old ROM.
When I boot into recovery mode, it shows CWM 5.0.2.7, but whatever option I try to choose from the recovery menu, The screen just goes blank with the CWM logo in the middle and nothing else happens. Hitting the power button returns me to the menu, but no option works, even power down or reboot. It just goes back to the CWM logo again and I have to remove the battery to shut it down.
So, I thought I would try using fastboot to flash the ROM again. When I boot the phone into the boot loader and select fastboot, then plug the phone in via USB, nothing happens. Windows does not see the phone and ADB or fastboot don't see it either. It's not a driver issue, as the computer is still setup from when the computer was rooted and I connect the phone all the time with no problems.
When the phone is off and plugged into USB or the charger, I still get the charging light, though it goes off after about 10 seconds, then comes back on and cycles like that.
Is there anything I can try at this point, or is my phone bricked? It seems like I followed all the steps correctly. Is there an update.zip I can put in the root folder and see if it picks it up?
Any help would be appreciated.

Ok, after rebooting Windows, I was able to get the USB connection to the phone to work in fastboot. It seems I missed the step described in this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1508556
which states with S-ON you must flash the boot.img separately. I did that via fastboot and the phone boots into cyanogenmod now.
However, I still seem to have the issue with clockwordmod recovery. As long as I do the recovery functions from rom manager, everything is fine, but when I manually boot into the recovery menu, I get the same behavior of any choice from the menu just blanks the screen except for the CWM logo and nothing happens. I tried reflashing the recovery image using fastboot, but still no go.

This is solved also. Seems on the MT4GS, the trackball is the selection button. The power button appears to only be a back button.
What a thread! Two nicely phrased problem definitions, two well explained solutions, and all from the same guy. Sorry we weren't able to help directly, but you obviously found the answers you needed elsewhere in the forum. And you updated the title as well to show it was solved. Thanks.

TWRP crashing

Well, after trying to install a ROM through TWRP the phone rebooted and froze on the HTC screen. I then go back into bootloader and try to get into recovery but the splash screen pops up and then the phone reboots. I can get into CWM however when trying to sideload any .zips there I get an error. Not really sure what to do at this point. I probably should have stopped playing with it when I fixed it the first time, ha.
Edit: I fixed my problems! Very happy, ended up restoring some of the firmware from the OTA's and TWRP started working again. Just flashed ROM and fully functionally.

My provider is AT&T. I used the UK OTA from this link http://db.tt/LrIEemZ4 . Its part of this thread in general http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2422885. Basically what was happening is that I had flashed a ROM which didn't work out and so it would just hang on the white HTC screen. I figured no big deal I'll just go into recovery and flash another one I know works. That didn't work out. Any time I tried to go into recovery the TWRP splash screen would pop up for a second then the phone would reboot. Which kind of had me puzzled because I flashed ClockWorkMod for recovery and it would at least get me into recovery but still adb sideload was giving me errors so I flashed TWRP again even though it wasn't working either.. I pulled the boot.img out of the Firmware.zip in the OTA and flashed that with fastboot. At that point I had tried just about everything and was about to give up but to my surprise that seemed to fix it. I was able to go into recovery no problem. Sideloaded the ROM and everything went great. I'll probably not be messing with my phone like that for a bit haha. It was the second night in a row that I had wiped an OS off the phone and struggled to figure out how to get it working. Glad its all good now though. Good luck to you!
cant change recovery / device rebooting
Hi, i have a similar problem,
I've unlocked with htcdev everything is fine.
Then I installed Twrp-2.6.0.0.img as recovary.
I'm not able to mount the internal storage, so I had to push the ROMs via ADB.
starting a ROM 1st time seems to be ok.
restart is also ok.
shutdown and power on is rebooting every ~15sec.
I tried to change my bootloader.
fastboot flash recovery recovery-clockwork-touch-6.0.3.6-m7ul.img -> volume keys are responding
fastboot boot recovery-clockwork-touch-6.0.3.6-m7ul.img -> volume keys are NOT responding
recovery isn't starting until i run following commands:
fastboot flash recovery Twrp-2.6.0.0.img -> volume keys are responding
fastboot boot Twrp-2.6.0.0.img -> volume keys are NOT responding
but after resetting the device + entering recovery it's there
thanks for your ideas/help

[Q] Is my phone really dead beyond repair?

Hi,
Today my phone was drained and I left it charging from my laptop. 3-4 hours later I tried to boot it but with no luck.
Also now it was very warm. After some trial and error - and possibly because the phone now was cooler - I was able to boot into fastboot.
But I can't get past the HTC logo. In fastboot I have tried to reflash the boot.img from CM10.2. I have also reflashed a recovery - but still
I can't boot into recovery or CM.
I also tried to unlock the phone but when doing so, I don't get send to the last screen, where I actually unlock the phone (it was already unlocked, it was just a test)
My suspicion is that the internal storage has been fried when the phone overheated - since it seems like that fastboot says it's writing but in fact I doubt that the phone actually wrote anything.
How can I know? Apart from the dead phone, all my pictures are lost in there too.
I would love a little help...
Frederik
In bootloader menu (that with fastboot) you can go to recovery.
Now recovery is broken. Re-flash or flash another recovery. you will now when it's ok. It let you do your work.
In that same menu you have Factory reset. But this erase all in your phone (and SD card)!
Try reflashing stock recovery... Let it do what it needs to do in recovery and then flash whatever custom recovery you have.

Shield doesnt boot anymore

So guys, i've done it. I bring my first device.
Yesterday i tried to downgrade via fastboot with this recovery images https://developer.nvidia.com/gameworksdownload (yes is choose the right ones)
flash boot, check
flash recovery, check
flash system, failes (insufficient memory)
erase sytem, check
flash system, failed (insufficient memory)
flash twrp, check, but no usb mouse so
flash cwm, check
factory reset, check
rom.zip and gapps on sd card, check
reboot, boot into bootloader, no chance
It boots everytime normal, so i cant enter the recovery.
Connect it to charger, check
charging led lights up, check
Go sleeping, check
doenst boot into bootloader :/
Back to charger
Now I wanted to try it again and i wont even boot.
Anyone has an Idea? Or is it really bricked?
Can you still see the device listed using fast boot?
No, because I can't enter the bootloader or the recovery. But it boots again
...
The same thing just happened to me. Unfortunately, I am still trying to figure it out. I flashed a "stock" recovery that I had found in order to be able to take the OTAs. Now when I boot, I just stay stuck on the NVIDIA splash screen.....been there for hours.

Same here.....
Mine is working again. Booting in the bootloader is a little bit tricky.
Have you tried to flash all? Boot.img, recovery.img and system.img?
...
I had the same issue. But after trying to get into the bootloader using POWER + VOLUME DOWN for about 15 minutes it finally went to the bootloader and I was able to re-flash it. I have a feeling it's the cludgy power button.
You do not need to flash the stock recovery to take the ota. I have taken 2 otas now on custom recovery without any issue and without loosing root. Just an FYI.
Sent from my SHIELD Tablet using XDA Free mobile app
I just did a factory reset under lollipop, locked boot-loader rooted and it rebooted to the green android screen then dropped into CWM and asked to fix root. I said no, then it went to the nvidia boot logo and it is stuck. Any suggestions? Thanks.
Edit: nevermind, I just powered it off after about 20 minuets and it hung again. When I plugged it into my pc, it finally poped into the setup/welcome screen. Pretty weird. Heart attack averted
