Is there any way to run multiple roms on the Galaxy S3?
Say I want to boot and pick from PARANOIDANDROID Hyperdrive RLS14 Liquid smooth or any other one. Maybe run some off the ext SD would be nice as well. Can you do this? I search and couldn't find it, if there is a post can someone let me know. Not even sure if this is possible.. lol But would be sweet..
Thanks very much..
I would say yes, theoretically, since there seems to be enough space on the system partition for 2-3 roms. And this has been done for awhile on the iPhone (dual booting Android/iOS) but I'm no developer, so I don't know for sure
I'm hoping so. We were able to with the DROID X but who knows. It'd be pretty cool

I haven't seen an option for dual boot or triple boot. I had that ability on my nook color and always liked it.

But I don't think you can run them off of the Ext SD Card, since it's data steam is slower in the way it's mounted

They have this for the droid 3 I came from, its called safe strap and it was pretty cool for trying out new roms and not worrying about bricking but it was for bypassing locked bootloader though. You can find out about it in the d3 forum but it would be nice to have something like that since we have so many ROMs to choose from.

Used to have this on my dinc2. App was called boot manager. Doesn't work with the s3 though....

Count me in as well for this feature

Pretty sure the people who made the app stopped updating it, it was called boot manager.
I used it on my dx, bought the paid version and gave up. It wasn't really made for a locked up phone, you had to be running a cm based rom to dual boot, it was more hassle that it was worth.
Just make backups.

Let me start off by saying that I love and am thankful for all the hard work that developers put in to make awesome Roms. I've been rooting and flashing custom Roms since DAY 1 and enjoy it. But I've been noticing that when I flash a custom ROM its an upgrade for custom ability but a major downgrade in performance. For instance mobile data signal. Seems to get a lot slower than stock meaning OUT THE BOX. I've done comparisons in data using stock OUT THE BOX and all different custom roms and WOW what a big difference. Next is streaming videos. I noticed that OUT THE BOX I get that beautiful 1080p crispy no stutter image. Now when I root and flash a custom ROM the quality is NOT the same. Installing apps. Again OUT THE BOX stock installs apps from the play store way faster than when I'm running on a custom ROM. Sorry to say but I'm writing this using my nexus 5 that I just unrooted. I am NOT. I repeat I AM NOT TRYING TO DISCREDIT ANY Developers keep up the good work but please give me some feed back and let me know if I can help in any way to try and make these issues that I'm sure a lot of people are having. Keep up the good work developers!!!!!!

Disclaimer: I have no scientific evidence or tests of this at all. This is merely observations ive noticed. Could I be completely wrong? Yes. Do I think this is a deep conspiracy by devs to ruin all thats right with the world? No. Anyways...
I do notice that my wifi signal has been slightly weaker from the same places in my house. Could just be bad luck/router/etc. and its never really be debilitating or anything. I still maintain connection but it seems a solid 3-4 bar wifi connection from my bed room has always been a 1-2 bar connection on a custom ROM. Doesnt even seem to be unique to my N5, it was the same way on my One X as well.
I'm sure there is probably an easy fix, or if I really looked into it maybe I'm just going crazy and there is nothing wrong or different with my wifi. But i figured maybe someone else out there is dealing with the same situation, or at least maybe theres a big secret wifi fix that I have been oblivious to all these years lol
THANKS FOR ALL THE GREAT WORK XDA DEVS. I cant say that enough though, TBH. Ive used this site since I had a HTC Fuze way back in the day, then onto my Samsung Galaxy S Captivate, and the work and knowledge on here is outstanding.
When you say "custom rom" do you mean "aosp based"? Because it wouldn't makes sense that this issue exists on "stock based" custom roms

Its not just this phone my s1 s2 s3 n4 s4 all seem to have issues with video streaming quality and signal after flashing a custom ROM. Test it for yourself. But you have to compare it with out the box version

I can understand how flashing an aosp rom with perhaps no source for gpu or video drivers could have a problem with video playback. This was the case on the s3.
I can also understand how having to use OpenRIL on an aosp build could cause radio performance to suffer.
However a custom rom which is based on stock, using a stock RIL, using stock drivers should not exhibit these issues compared to stock itself. Even if it is deodexed. This has been the case on all the android devices I have rooted, flashed stock roms on or even built roms for. Including the N5 and the S3.
If you think this is happening on all the devices you own, its either something to do with your choice of rom or its something you do to all your phones that causes these issues. There's no reason why a custom rom based on stock would under perform w
compared to stock, unless you're picking something that has been incorrectly tweaked or you've incorrectly tweaked yourself

I am also seeing that difference. My phone was constantly freezing when opening apps. Also when trying to take a picture, if I move the camera too fast, it seems like the phone can't keep up and reboots itself. So I went back to stock everything and kept my boot loader unlocked. Everything seems to be working just fine now. Its weird.

This is a useless thread. Op if you really believe that stock based Roms are devaluing the performance of your phone then flash back to bone stock and be done. Problem solved, we can close this thread.

This article is totally irrelevant to this conversation because it's comparing 2 different versions of Android. We only have 4.4 roms for this phone. You're comparing different 4.4 roms to each other, not different versions of Android.
I just recently purchased a Nexus 5 online and it came pre loaded with Android M, which I was excited for. However with me using the camera a lot, Android M is not for me. (Camera pictures flipping, app crashing, etc.)
Can someone provide a stock lollipop ROM, or let me know if there is a way to downgrade and keep stock? I am all for rooting and flashing, but with Nexus devices it's just made for stock OS.
A flashablr tar.md5 file would be preferred because I like to use Odin, but otherwise a .zip will work too.
Thanks!

Yes, I dropped my galaxy s5 and there was no external damage, but the drop damaged the internal sound card. So all audio was heavily static.
I used a website called swappa.com to buy my new phone.

Hey ladies and gents,
I made this thread to have a place to post personal findings with your note 5's. For example, tell us how do you like the screen, anything weird that you noticed about the screen, the way the phone behaves, and possibly any quirks that you found out with the phone. Even things that you like and don't like. Maybe the phones camera acts a certain way in weird conditions, etc. Let us know so that we can discuss and possibly find solutions for any future quirky attributes that pop out! ?

I have noticed that when I want to send a pic to someone it automatically sends the pic without letting me type anything. Don't know if it is a bug or just the way the OS works.
I do not like the fact that I can't choose to use an app once or by defualt, it automatically selects the app for me

I agree. The default activity chooser is missing the option to use an app just once or always. Very annoying
Really? That's very annoying because I usually like to choose different media players for different media applications. That can pose a problem.

On a positive note (pun intended), the screen is gorgeous and wonderfully sensitive. My last two phones, lgg4 and nexus 6 were too dim in sunlight and the screens on the far right edge missed touches far too often. Well, on the LG touches were missed just about anywhere 1/3rd of the time.
I have noticed that when I take a screenshot with smart select and save it to gallery I cannot send it as an mms. It says unsupported media file. Anyone else had that problem/

The size of the OS has no effect on the amount of in free user space, the OS is on a separate partition in the phone.
The separate partition is of a pre-determined size which has nothing to do with the free space on the internal sdcard.
That's why I do not see any advantage of uninstalling bloatware or other apps which we don't use or want.
Disabling bloatware and many other unwanted and unused apps is a much better and safer option.
Good luck,
Have a great day!
I hear what you are saying, but still doesn't answer his question. Regardless of partitions, you will still have 64gb to work with, so how much is available from a stock N5 64gb? I think I read that 11gb is used, but I can't confirm I don't have a note 5 yet. Coming soon. You should have over 50gb, probably 52-53. I'm sure someone can confirm.
@Misterjunky-That sounded a little rude, I didn't mean it so please don't take it the wrong way.

Ok, before adding any files to your internal sdcard you will have exactly 58,350,411,776,00 bytes usable free space.
Which means that you will have approx 58.3 GB usable free space to work with before adding any files.
Good luck,
Have a great day!
Damn, that's actually very good.

Also the video isnt working on the phone, recording video on camera or snapchat. It records on the camera but then it freezes when you play it back. and on snapchat is just says recording failed.
Camera quality does not seem very good. The only thing that may make me switch back to a Samsung based ROM.
Anyone else notice a camera quality difference?
Yeah, it seems the same for me. I'm tempted to dual boot though. I do like this rom for the most part.
