Is anyone aware of this mhl product for the GN4? If so any insight or review would be appreciated. At less than $20 US it seems to be a better deal than the samsung product. There is also an install video on youtube.

netgear ptv 3000 works great with it. havent tried any others.
just make sure you get MHL 2.0
MHL 1.0 adaptors only do 1080p24, MHL 2.0 does 1080p60
if you want 4K you need MHL 3.0, but the 2.0 adaptors work just damn fine for me.

I'm not sure if they are still doing it; but when I registered my Galaxy S3, I received a 50% off promo code for anything $50 or less from Samsung's store. That made their $40.00 MHL adapter $19.99.

Here is my goal: We purchased the gameklip for our phones, and I want to run emulators, and play some games with the video streaming to our mitsubishi 82" 82742 tv. (We'll also do various video mirroring to the tv, for things like ebook/ecomic reading, android based games, or other apps.)
Plans are to use the wireless version of the gameklip so the hdmi port is freed up for hdmi out/charging, so I'm looking to buy an hdmi out adapter/cable for our S3 1535 phones, but every product advert I see for them lists the 9300, not the 1535.
What are the difference between the phones, and should I be looking for something specific to the 1535? (I couldn't find any online comparisons between the verizon 1535 and the 9300.)
It looks like the hdmi adapters can be had for about $10 shipped on ebay or amazon.
We were running our old droidx phone's hdmi out to the tv before our new phones. It looks like the old droidx hdmi cable has a micro hdmi port for the phone, and the S3 adapters give you a full sized hdmi out.
I think I need the latest jellybean leak, the 9300 hdmi adapter, and a new 12' hdmi cable, or do those adapters also have a micro hdmi on them as well?
Also it sounds like to use the home theater, I'll also need to add a audio cable to plug into the home theater (or does the s3 hdmi out also pass through audio to the tv speakers? using the tv speakers would be fine.) Worse case I can use my bt stereo headset, but audio coming from the tv or home theater would be nice.
(Sorry for all the questions, but we are still on a learning curve coming from the DX.)
You want a 9305 quad core with 2gig of ram. i535 is only a dual core and the 9300 only has 1gig of ram.

I think you misunderstood my question. We already have the Verizon Galaxy S3 phones. we are looking to what we need to hook them up properly to our bigscreen tv to mirror video/audio out.
I'd Say go to Verizon buy an mhl adapter around$40 don't buy the cheap ones doesn't work well . it
allows you to mirror, games and all

Mhl is a service key piece that let's mhl compatible tvs to control the device remotely with the channel changer. Since most hdmi tvs don't have this (mhl) they make an adapter for basic hdmi out usage since it is different protocols.

I can confirm that the Samsung HDMI adapter that is specific for the S3 works for the I-535.
$20 on Amazon.

Thanks for the info, and relocating this to the proper location, Mod.
I also looked into wirelessly sending video/audio via the samsung allshare dongle for our tv, but it sounds like it still does not receive 1080p, and some people have all sorts of connect/frame dropout issues with that.
It sounds like the newest jellybean leaks improve the situation, but spending $80 hoping it gets resolved doesn't sound very practical to me.
I think we'll go with the mhl adapter. I checked my droidx cable, and it does have a full sized at one end, and a micro hdmi at the other end. 8(
Is monoprice still the best place for low prices on hi speed hdmi cables? I'll need a 12 footer to stretch from the couch to the phone.
I've heard good things about Monoprice, but haven't used them personally.

Holy crap are they expensive! $10.50 plus shipping for a 1 foot long cable? Are they smoking crack?
I purchased 3 6 foot long hi speed hdmi cables off ebay just a few weeks ago for less than $10 shipped.
I haven't seen any validation for premium expensive hdmi cables anywhere... every time you read reviews, unless you are running extremely long distances (20 feet or more) everyone says all hi speed rated cables are pretty much the same regardless of price.

I have a feeling we'll just go with the hdmi adapter and the cable.. it sounds like the samsung allshare dongle just is not ready for prime time yet.
Hi everyone, the original samsung tv out mhl for galaxy s3 it's compatible with S4?
According to this the s3 has MHL 1.0 whereas the s4 has MHL 2.0.
Here is some knock off on amazon selling for $11:
Anyone want to pull the trigger on the knock off?

S4 is compatible MHL 2 does it mean it is not backward compatible !? I think you are making a wild guess that might or might not be proven right.
I have my s3 MHL that I will try with my s4 and will report with concrete results maybe tomorrow if I find time for it.

MHL 2 is backwards compatible with 1, though sounds like you need the additional m-usb power cable.
The description from the knock off on amazon states otherwise, which makes me all the more leery from buying the knock off. Wish monoprice would hurry up and release their version for s4 already.

so my galaxy s3 mhl dongle it's compatible with s4 I only add ext power? right?
Should be. As popular as this phone will be, you should expect to see less expensive ( non samsung branded) version come out. I wonder when mono price will release their new s4 cable
im personally gonna be buying it from verizon because i get a 25% discount and because i can just swap it out if it stops working (like the cheesy cables & cords u find on amazon)
Can confirm that my S3/Note 2 MHL adapter works with the S4 (Smart Dock does too for that matter).
I have a old knock off MHL adapter I got for my HTC EVO 3D that didn't seem to work with my GS4, apparently they have a different number of pins in the plug but an adapter is available, though probably better off just getting a new MHL that specifies for Samsung
Hi, is it possible to use a cable like that? http://www.everychina.com/f-z51ede7e/p-91338529/showimage.html
Where can be buyed? other web ... of course.
If it works, may select between dual mode or extended mode?
In dual mode, may i turn off the screen's tablet and works only with the hdmi output?
hdmi adapter with more
Anyone have an Idea if this would work ---

This item can be connected MHL Phone or Tablet to HDTV. One cable and two usages. If you wanna get one for your note 8.0, you can search it at ebay.com or amazon.com with keyword "mhl cable for samsung Note 8.0".
Make sure it is compatible with Samsung devices. MHL adapters that worked with HTC devices are not compatible with Samsung devices.

If I were you I wouldn't trust the price !!!
I'am sure they'll send you either a fake (which is not as performant as the real deal !!!) or worse an old mhl (the S3's for example which may also be a fake)
That being said, if you have the spare money to give it a try feel freed to give us a feedback on the case you will fill in ^^
no it doesnt work just i tried on my note and it didnt work
I bought this one at BestBuy . A but pricey but it works. Don't want to risk on cheap ones not working so I got it.

Official one http://www.samsung.com/us/mobile/cell-phones-accessories/ET-H10FAUWESTA If you have the 50% off code still from registering your phone with Samsung, this would be something worth using it on
If you search on Amazon.com you can find other ones for under $20, search for a MHL adapter for the Note 4..... different phones need different adapters so I wouldnt get one unless it specifically said for the Note 4.... I know someone else will give more information than what I can, so give it a while here, maybe someone will find you a cheaper one yet.
I got mine from monoprice. Works with my Note 4, Note 3, S3 and HTC One M7. The smaller plug is an 11 pin to 5 pin adapter needed for Samsung devices. Not needed on the HTC One.
http://www.monoprice.com/Product?c_id=108&cp_id=10833&cs_id=1083314&p_id=10021&seq=1&format=2
it's plenty out there.
Many people doesn't know that any MHL cable will work on our Note 4.
The older version of MHL will only needs a 4/5 pins to 11 pins adapter that costs less than USD 5
I actually using my old Smart Dock for Note 2 and it works with Note 4

If you have WiFi just get the chromecast it does the same plus more.. but if your stuck on getting a wired solution then ONLY purchase the one linked in the second post /the Above quote.
Like he stated above register your device with Samsung they WILL give you a50%off code on ALL ACCESSORIES through them. I've bought ones offline from dealers who has 10 THOUSAND+ sales with a 99% + satisfaction rating. I bought a mhl adapter from them and got it plugged it in and every so often it would drop out and go to snow on the screen. Come to find out it was a knock off being sold as a legit own. I returned it and got a refund. But the seller was stunned cause they had a huge shipment of worthless mhl knock offs.
So just buy it from Samsung the official one, it'll last used it on my note 2 and note 4 until I bought the chromecast. Both will do hdmi and surround sound. Not to mention the one that's compatible with the note 2 and 4 is also compatible with s3 s4 and other devices running usb2.0 from Samsung.
Don't buy the knock offs or imitations they don't transfer data at the same rate as the official one and audio quality isn't as good.
But honestly if you have WiFi in your place get the chromecast, you can mirror anything in your screen turn a movie on from the other side of the house and use your phone for other reasons.
Thanks a lot for the info just order one from Samsung. Not got wifi right now moving home
Does anyone know if the Note9 will fit in the latest version of Gear VR? (SM-R325) Being the phone is .1" larger than last year's Note8 it might be a stretch to fit.
I did more research and found that in the details of the current model on the Samsung store website it says
"Galaxy Note9 requires a new adapter to be sourced free of charge from Samsung Customer Service at 1-800-SAMSUNG".
That's good to know, I will be contacting them.
Well I called 1-800-SAMSUNG like the website says and they told me I had to call customer service which is 1-855-726-8721 and they said the adapter for the current Gear VR (Note8 edition) will come in the Note9 box, which I know is false because I've watched many unboxing videos. Don't you love how no one knows that the hell they are talking about and they just point fingers at another department. I guess I'll just wait another week or two when my Note9 comes and when I'm certain it's not in the box I will call those numbers back up again and blow up on them.

Lack of communication. Just wait till you hand the phone in hand then call them.
They confirmed yesterday that everything should work fine with RM325. so i got a RM325 and now the software isn't installing. it does nothing when i connect it to the headset. contacted support and now they are saying " wait a few more days for official info". are you kidding me.

They must only include it in your countries version, I have watched U.S. version unboxing videos and its not in our box.
Ok got my Note 9 today and Gear VR (RM325) the note 8 adapter does work with the note 9 (although its not a perfect fit and i would be hesitant to use as it pinches the screen). I had the VR working flawlessly. SO now to figure out where to get this adapter. I called Samsung three times and they have no idea what i'm talking about.
Edit: Also my Verizon 512gb Note 9 did not come with an adapter.
So instead of calling (which i tried again today and they still had no idea what i was talking about) I used the Live chat support and selected the GearVR as the product i needed help with. After Giving him my IMEI number for my Note 9 and my shipping information he created a ticket for me and the adapter will be sent to me by sept 10th.

"The current iteration of Gear VR (SM-R325NZVAXAR) will be supported by the Galaxy Note9, however you will need an adapter to fit it. If you are a Galaxy Note9 owner and would like to receive the adapter free of charge, please call 1-800-SAMSUNG*"
Make sure you point to this, and you have that model VR headset.
The Gear VR (RM325) & Note 9 will work ok without the adapter
I've had the RM325 and got my Note 9 on the 22nd sans any adapter besides the USB one. Using an Xfinity Mobile US version. The Gear VR worked fine once you update the related apps, although the shape of the connector is a little different so I can see the adapter fitting better. I'll probably not use it too much until I get a chance to order the adapter from Samsung.
I have the Note 9 and I can assure you the adapter is not in the box. At least not in mine.
I also contacted support via chat on samsung website. When I showed them the url from Tidbits post mentioning the free adapter, they immediately processed the free adapter.
