EDIT: Updated for important information at the front of the topic. Initial body copy is at the bottom of this post now.
Quick Stats:
Name : Owl CarPad/G,
What is it?: Wireless Qi Charger for your car. it uses a hard-wired Cigarette lighter adapter to power the wireless Qi charging pad. (See pics below for the exact cable provided)
Have a look at my in-depth review of the Owl CarPad/G for Nexus 4
Where can I buy it? : Here's a link to Owl's website where you can order. http://owlpad.net/carpad-for-nexus-4/
Moon has stated they are awaiting final production, and should start shipping around middle of next week!. So for right now, any orders placed are "pre-orders" and will ship out very soon!
WORLDWIDE SHIPPING IS INCLUDED IN THE PRICE! Owl will ship using EMS from Korea. Final leg in the USA is delivered by USPS. You can try using this site to track your package via EMS: http://service.epost.go.kr/trace.RetrieveEmsTraceEngTibco.postal (hint: press cancel on the 2 pop ups that come up.. they're in Korean, and I'm not positive what they say, but this will bring you to the tracking number input area)
Click “Buy now” and fill in the blank $65 for 1 set (Includes CarPad with screw nut for back, Mounting hardware(Arkon Brand - referenced below) and 12V 1A specially engineered Cigarette Power Adapter.)
2 sets for $120
4 sets for $235
If you only want the CarPad, and don't need the mounting hardware, because you'll plan on using your own 17mm ball solution (basically you'll just receive the charging pad with side-prongs, 17mm ball joint female end on the back, screw nut for attaching to 17mm ball mount of your choosing and the cigarette power adapter) - $57
Also on sale - OwlPad for desktop + CarPad for Car.
Just $100 at http://owlpad.net/owlpadcarpad-for-nexus-4-n-qi/
XDA User Narcopolypse is also taking names for a list of orders he'll be making as well, if you'd rather someone else handle the shipping and then ship them to you locally.
What are the specifics: CarPad is Qi functional and works well with the Nexus 4. Tested both with TPU case, Diztronic Matte Black Case, Official Bumper, and bare-back. The average charge on an idle phone is around +600mA and with load of Spotify streaming music, Android GPS navigation, BlueTooth connected to head-unit, and screen on at lowest brightness, the charger gets nearly +100-200mA
What does it look like?:
Initial images upon receiving my test unit : http://imgur.com/a/K29tM
CarPad in-use images from Moon (the Marketing and Sales manager of OwlPad) : http://imgur.com/a/MZPti
Images of the CarPad removed from the mounting hardware: http://imgur.com/a/PbEtx
Some test results for quick reference:
This first one is just the phone sitting on the charger, no Bluetooth, no GPS, no Music. Mobile data ON. Screen OFF.
The test was from 8:09am to 8:15am
http://i.imgur.com/hB01A1e.png
The second test was with GPS on and navigation app running, streaming music via Spotify, using BlueTooth to my car head unit, screen ON at lowest brightness.
The test was from 8:26am to 8:34am
http://i.imgur.com/kydLRAU.png
As you can see, with the phone just idling, there’s a decent charge provided to the phone.
With everything running, I’m still getting a charge to the phone and the mA amount recorded never dips below zero.
----------------------------------------------------
Here's some of the other solutions that should work with the CarPad Ball-Joint Back.
Sticky Dash Suction Mount This is the one I bought : http://amzn.com/B0077B9K2E
The above is the same as this, but for some reason, that one is cheaper with the holder attachment than this one is solo : http://amzn.com/B005V1L7W8
Vent Clip mount : http://amzn.com/B0015A6YN6
Cig Lighter port stalk : http://amzn.com/B000BP8GQO
For you Brodit / ProClip users out there, i BELIEVE this is what you would need : http://amzn.com/B002ACP2FY
You can basically look up Arkon 17mm ball on Amazon and have a lot of options to play with for the back of the CarPad. It's nice they adapted it to a standard ball mount so we can use these other options if needed.
-----------------------------------------------------
XDA user narcopolypse has said that he would be ordering larger stock of these for the US, and selling them here in the states to help with shipping issues/times (considering the manufacturer is in Korea, shipping can sometimes take longer/cost more. PM narcopolypse if you'd like to be added to a list of users interested in purchasing.
Currently you can contact Moon from OwlPad directly at : [email protected]. He's in South Korea, so they're time is off from us if you are in the West.
See this page for more info, pics, and how to order directly from Owl : http://owlpad.net/carpad-for-nexus-4/
This page has even more testing information : http://owlpad.net/2013/01/24/latest-version-of-owl-carpadg/
A desktop Qi Charger is also available from Owl called the OwlPad for Nexus 4 n Qi - http://owlpad.net/owlpad-for-nexus-4-n-qi/
Q/A:
Q) Are the grips on the owlpad rubberized or fashioned in some way that does not hurt the phone from the constant taking out and putting back in?
A) There's a slight texture to the side prongs, but they are just plastic. I have been sliding it in and out using the LG bumper, TPU cases, and the bare phone, and no signs of problems scuffing or anything.
I recently bought the Diztronic Matte Black case, and it's about the same size as my other TPU cases, but because of its matte finish, and the way it's designed, it's a little harder to slide in from the top, and I place one side in and then press to slide in the other side now.
The bare phone is a perfect fit for this, just barely needing any pressure to push it in from the top.
Q) Can the CarPad be turned off without unplugging the unit, or otherwise pulling the cigarette lighter adapter?
A) Yes, The small LED light at the bottom (normally used to show you if the CarPad is charging (RED) or Idle (Green) is also a BUTTON. you can press this at any time to turn off the CarPad entirely. Pressing it again will turn the charging feature back on.
Q) Will my Phone / CarPad get hot because of Qi Charging?
A) Yes it will, but most recent tests of the last (final?) version of the CarPad/G have shown that the temperature while even running GPS and screen on doesn't get much hotter than possibly 42C. The charger will continue to charge through higher temperatures, but Qi / Inductive charging in general IS affected by heat, so the hotter the conditions, the less power gets pushed to the phone's battery. It's just how induction works.
Q) If my phone is dead (battery to zero/shut down) will the Owl CarPad charge it?
A) YES it will! I had mine die recently while out with family, and when I placed it on the pad, after about 15 minutes I started it back up and it had about 6% charge on it. Apparently Qi charging doesn't need to have the phone on to charge the phone.
Q) Also could someone please confirm what type of connection the power cable has please, is it a standard cigarette lighter plug or USB?
A) The adapter is a hard-wired cigarette lighter plug, and the end of the cable is a 3.5mm coaxial power connector.(Similar to these types of connectors http://i.imgur.com/P0BRqk3.jpg )
Q) Will the Owl CarPad charge my phone to 100%?
A) In tests, it seems it'll charge to about 90% then go into "Complete mode" or "Idle" Others have stated it can get to about 95% as well.
Q) Will this work with a TPU case or similar? What about the Official Bumper?
A) The size of the holder prongs is just a little smaller than the phone when naked. they are tensioned/bendable to spring back on their own (no mechanical motion, just hard plastic forms that can be bent to move the phone in and out of the mount. I've used a generic TPU case, a Diztronic Matte black Case, an LG Official Bumper and also naked phone, and the charger has always provided charge to my phone with no issue. Some larger / thicker cases may hinder the Qi charging ability, due to distance from the back-plate, but a standard soft case, or a hard case shouldn't pose any issues with the Qi functionality.
Q) How long is the cigarette lighter power cable? My 120v/12w power port is in my center console on the bottom, totally forgot about that.
A) The cable has a coiled section in the middle to allow for additional length. The whole cable measures 29 inches total. 9.5" from the cig jack, then 7.5" of coiled cable, then 12" of cable again to the coaxial power connector.
The coiled section can be pulled to around 36 inches, but that's a lot of tension. I'd say doubling it to about 15" is as far as I'd ever have it taught.
I drive a 2010 Mazda 3 and my cig jack is at the bottom of my dash in the center console area.(think near your right knee) and I have my CarPad mounted on the top of my dash near my gauge cluster. There's plenty of length, and in fact all of the coiled portion. Stays in my console shelf/door area.
Here are some photos to show its construction.
http://i.imgur.com/3qmyFXS.jpg
http://i.imgur.com/cNijdTh.jpg
http://i.imgur.com/riOoKBa.jpg
http://i.imgur.com/rLHsOna.jpg
Q) Can I use a different Adapter or cable to power the CarPad?
A) (This is directly quoted from Moon) "One thing you do have to know is that Cigar jack is regulated to fixed 12V.
It is not only control 12V but also it gives some positive effects on the charging pad. So it shouldn't use any other than Owl provide."
I had mentioned that they also worked on the cable to provide the best solution for the CarPad. Because of their work on this, the heat issues on the adapter and the CarPad itself are alleviated, and help keep the charger charging during higher temperatures. I'd suggest not using another cable solution, if only that the one provided is engineered for the best performance of the CarPad.

Hey everyone,
I think I've stumbled across an awesome product, but it looks to only be available in Korea right now.
owlcharger.com/bbs/board.php?bo_table=gallery_eng&wr_id=26
Basically it's a Qi Certified Car mount, which, for the iPhone and Galaxy S2, they've made charging cases to go along with them, but in all reality, our Nexus 4's should just start charging once docked.
I've done about 2 hours of digging around and can't find anything about them other than their Korean stuff, and no availability here in the U.S.A.
On their LinkedIn web page ( linkedin.com/company/owl-technology ) they state Arkon.com for selling in the U.S.A. however Arkon's website doesn't show any products such as these.
Anyone have any advice on how we can get our grubby mitts on this dock? ordering from overseas?
EDIT: owlpad.net seems to have the info we need for international orders. I have an email out to them now about the ability to order just the charger and mount without a sleeve.
where do you see it is QI certified?

Found a way to purchase outside of Korea.
owlpad.net
Here's the international instructions to order.
owlpad.net/home-2/
It's $80 shipped to the U.S.A. about 2-5 days processing and between 7-10 days to ship from Korea, and comes with a 1 year warranty.
This is probably the product we need to order - owlpad.net/owl-autopad/ but it doesn't show a price or order info on that page.
I've emailed them to ask about the availability of just the mount with inductive charger, without a phone sleeve, since we won't need it.
The other pages for the iphone and GS2 show order info and price, ( owlpad.net/carpad-for-galaxy-s2/ ) so I'm assuming we may just need to contact them to let them know we don't need a sleeve and the price may be cheaper.
I'll update when I get a response from them.

Conclusion:
Qi standard Wireless Charging Sleeves can be charged on Owl Car Charging Pad.
Power Mat products and OWL products are quite compatible
But the present Qi module and the Power Mat product are not compatible.
Owl Products are in principle most compatible with Qi products.
So I assume it MAY work. Well good luck to you! Let us know if you get it or not!
I've been emailing back and forth with the VP of Marketing and Sales at Arkon.
He said they are familiar with OWL and their charger is pretty much similar.
He said they have put off introducing their version of the product for another 3-6 months at least, in order to wait for more mobile manufacturers to include the Qi charging standard. I believe they would rather only sell the mount and not worry about the sleeves.
He said they have working models in their engineering dept. And suggested if i want the solution now, to order from the OWL website.
Undoubtedly,. they'll probably come out with it next Summer, and I'll have had the OWL for a while, so when that time comes, i'll be on hand to give my input on how it works.
I'll be making a purchase this week or next probably.
I'll make sure to update everyone and try to do a video review when it comes in.
Ive gotten in touch with Moon over at OWL, and he said because they dont have the Nexus 4 released over there in Korea yet, that they have yet to test it with their "Auto Pad".
Im going to be ordering one in the next week and if it works ill update the thread and try to do a video review on it. All signs point to it working.
Also, their solution is basically their pad built onto an Arkon mount. So purchasing from them is getting about the same thing that Arkon will be producing later.
Wait for my update before making an impulse buy. I'd hate for anyone else to get an impulse purchase and then it not even work.
I'll be the lab rat for the community.
Very interested in how this turns out. Thanks for taking one for the team!

I've been digging around for this all morning and I can't find it for sale anywhere. I'm guessing its not for sale at this time but will hopefully be shortly. I've emailed different with companies about a qi certified car mount and 2 out of 3 said they are researching them at this time and because more phones are slated to get this wireless qi technology that we will see them come out this following year but neither gave me a eta.
Those are prototypes, probably not available for sale until some other company licenses them. The Energizer single pad seems to be a rebrand of their single model. Probably the dual one is also based on their prototype.

Beat you to the punch. I have also been in touch with Moon as I am going to be their US distributor. I have a batch of test units on their way right now. As soon as they arrive I will update this thread as to whether or not it works with the Nexus 4. I will also be testing it with some other Qi devices as well. Assuming all goes to plan I will start listing the car and desktop pads on my ebay store within a couple of weeks so you can buy them from a US seller. I will also be more than willing to allow local pickup for anyone in the Salt Lake area.

When you say you have a "batch" of units on the way..... does that mean you'll have a few extra that you would distribute for multiple people to test?
Say, for example, people who live in Texas could test in a hotter climate?

Ha ha. Very funny you guys.
Don't worry, If all goes well I should have them up for sale before Christmas. I'm thinking I'll start out with just the car docks since there are already plenty of Qi desktop pads in the wild.
The one huge advantage these have in a desktop setting however is that they use an adaptive charging controller. They will actually switch automatically between charging standards so you can charge a Qi enabled phone or a Powermat enabled phone. They said they might even function with old Touchstone receivers so I'll give that one a go too since I've Touchstone modded my last three phones.

Wireless charger third party does not interfere with NFC.
The base plate is 1500milliamps and wall adapter is also 1500milliamps and recieving plate for s4 is 1000 milliamps and actual power recieved by s4 checked by using galaxy charging app is about 640milliamps with about 35% loss.
The s-view cover fits nicely with the recieving plate but is tricky to put back on so be careful and dont break the glass by pressing too hard, adjust the position of the plate and close the cover. the flip case if it remains open slightly then crease the folds by your fingers and keep closed with screen facing down overnight and case wont remain open.
enjoy your wireless charging s-view cover with this third party add on.
see http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xz6KBH-eDFk
my original upload avbout the wireless charger and how to insert it for newbies and working with the s-view cover http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=reYUIN_2nho
mods please note making a separate post as the link gets lost in 28 pages and more of the wireless charging cases post and everyone asking same questions again and again. so making separate post for my case and add on which works and all queries are answered in the first post itself.
have a great weeekend and buy this great accessory from where ever you get it but check the milliamps as on ebay there are many with lower output so check base and recieving power carefully.
In my video description i have linked some cheaper options from same seller and seller was kind enough to give discount code listed on my youtube video. PLEASE NOTE I PAID FULL PRICE MYSELF ON PREORDER plus extra for special delivery, so dont blame me if you dont get discount. Thats just a bonus if you get it. I paid full price at launch for the s-view cover as well at £45 in a three store when i got my phone.
edit 30 may 2013: it works fine with NFC tags as well http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sjcygHXvlQQ please watch out for my new upload on saturday for new receiver and base plate
further edit for new uploads on 30 may 2013:
yes there is a slight reduction for NFC launching difference but in practise it still works. see new upload for difference with and without wireless charging receiver in place and see the signal attenuation yourself and see if the distance is fine for you. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DFW7U5W5GIk
also another upload to show that it fits the standard back the phone comes with which is a snugger fit than the s-view case shown in my earlier videos http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0sk2aXHWn7g
edit 1 june 2013:
here is a new thinner qi wireless charging receiver i bought with another white base unit i bought. see it working http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n2TCR6mACSs
but new one has NFC interference a lot and NFC very buggy. will upload the NFC interfernce video in a few mins as well and link here but there is a fix to get NFC working, see below for fix as well

I have now finally got the NFC antenna that i ordered a few weeks ago from china and the NFC antenna works well in combination with wireless charging. No interference with wireless charging as far as i can tell and NFC sensing is better in my subjective opinion. see it working http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rNrUrzUYa6k
this NFC antenna might be a solution for all those stuck with receivers interfering with NFC, it costs just about £2.50 delivered from china but took a while to come form there.
Only @ 640mA? Why would anyone get this? Am I missing something?
Makes your phone fatter and charging takes 3x longer then the standard 1900mA cable that comes with the phone.

Did you even check the wireless qi adapter? I think not.
This adapter does not add to the size of the phone.
Wireless charging is convenient for some and most of us charge the phone overnight, doesn't matter if it is slower.

It fits inside my s-view cover. tight fit and tricky to close back but can manage it by changing position of pad slightly by trial and error. so it doesnt increase the size in practical terms if you saw the video.
Yes its a bummer seeing the drop but that is expected in wireless charging. The convenience factor may be useful for people like me. Its not for everyone. But one avoids issues with USB port by repeated connections and disconnections for charging.
The receiver plate is 1000milliamps but base is 1500milliamps. hopefully soon a receiver with 1500milliamps may be available increasing the power available i guess to about 1000milliamps if wastage stays similar.
I am happy with mine. Its up to others to decide if they want wireless charging. My video just gives you the info and its for you to decide whether the accessory is for you. :good:

I watched his YouTube. The Sview barely fits (which is fatter to begin with - and then with a buldge.
I'm all for convenience, but you still need to place the phone on a mat, which is plugged in. So you're telling me placing the phone on the mat is more convenient then plugging in the cord that's right there attached to the mat & charges (from empty) FOUR (4) hours quicker?
That's like saying is more convenient to drive 1000 miles then fly because you don't need to wait in a line at the airport. Cool, yes. Convenient, no.

the s-view cover fits fine, the flap closes fine after keeping it flat on the cover for a few hours. the bulge is barely noticable even when you look for it. For all practical purposes it is as if it isnt there.
I get your point about faster charging. But this is convenient (without long term issues with your usb ports from repeated plugging in of charger) for people to leave by their bedside or on their desk where they can just grab phone and go and no need to connect or disconnect their usb charger. Even toyota are including wireless chargers now in their newer car releases. This if clubbed with NFC to a suitable car stereo with app mode etc will be useful for using the features of your phone on your car stereo and make your car stereo smarter without spending more on a car stereo having the same custom built apps. Just one use case scenario that springs to mind.
This wireless kit will be useful for people who want to use their own cases rather than original samsung wireless charging case which does not have s-view cover option.
It wont be for everyone but will be fine for many like me.

its shown in the second video link. i bought it from ebay but its available on amazon. the link is given in my video description as well on both the videos. think the white one is cheaper. but supply and demand the price might be different when you check it.
please note that the app called galaxy charging current, the developers have replied in the comments that the app doesnt work on qualcomm SOC so i dont know if it is showing an accurate reading on my SGS4 GT I9505 as it has a snapdragon chip.
Can you please also test NFC functioning with NFC tags ?

Nfc works I have shown it on the video where I show NFC interaction between nexus 7 and Samsung galaxy s4. So no reason why they would work with NFC tags

I'm not sure it is the same thing. I'd very appreciate if you could test it with NFC tag as well. Thank you!
NFC either works or don't work, if it works for the nexus 7, then a tag will also work.

Yes of course how do you think I got it. As already mentioned in my video linked in the original post I bought it from eBay. And if you see the video description I have given links for cheaper options from Amazon and eBay and even discount codes WHICH I don't know if they will work as mentioned in the description to my video

might be cheaper on Amazon so check on Amazon first for the colour you wish. Go back to the two videos in the first post and see the five links and cut paste them into a browser it will take you to the respective pages on Amazon And eBay. See the video description below the video on YouTube where I have given all the links as o always do for all my videos.

I paid full price at launch for the s-view cover as well at £45 in a three store when i got my phone.

thank you for confirming that you got the 5% discount as promised to be by the seller. I dont know him, so its good to know he gave the discount. how are you finding the product.
So, Phonearena has a few articles on how you can get wireless charging on the S4 now, but they involve a third-party wireless receiver (read: back cover) that looks like it adds a considerable amount of thickness to the phone -- far too much to fit into a case not designed for it. The receiver also won't be shipping for another 3-4 weeks. They've also released a charging pad (which doubles as a dock), but it looks goofy and just uses the Qi standard anyway, so there are plenty of options out there for that portion of the charging.
My question is: Are there other available receivers that actually work? eBay (and the like) displays a list of Galaxy S4 receivers (basically a little flat mat that sits on top of the battery and connects to the Qi hubs inside the back cover), but I'm extremely iffy on ordering any electronics from China unless they're proven...and all of the receivers listed are from mainland China. Has anyone given one of them a shot? And if so, are there any that work efficiently and don't cause problems?
I know, for the future, that Samsung has said they will have a wireless hub (mat) and receiver out sometime soon...but they said the same thing about the Galaxy S3, and it was never released. I trust the word of Samsung about as much as I trust the word of the IRS right now.
Anyone with experiences??
I feel the same way about china electronics, but I do have a Metrans brand one on the way I'm thinking sometime this week, I also go in on the indiegogo Monsterwatts receiver which probably wont show up till June.
so far all the info that I've read up in these forums about the receivers is that with just the Receiver the NFC does not work after installation, one guy used a note 2 NFC antenna to get it working. This sounds like too much fumbling to me and I prefer a sounder solution.
the official receiver covers are starting to show up in both white and black colors (black just recently) they cost 50 bucks and as you mentioned add considerable thickness. the cost doesn't bother me as much as the added thickness, which is what's holding me back from buying it.
The route I'm going to take for the time being is to try the receivers, if it works and does not add any bulge to the rear of the phone while disabling NFC, I could live with that.
maybe if they come out with a decent case for the official receiver cover I might get it.
I don't really use NFC anyway (who does), so that's an acceptable option for me. I have two people at work that I actually *would* use NFC stuff with, and we can just send files to each other without it anyway. Since Verizon has been so gracious as to make sure none of the devices on its network (outside of Nexus devices) can use Google Wallet, I really have no other reason to use NFC.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2296301
Need to read thru his post. Yes, while the receiver is from china, the NFC is functional.
I ordered one from the UK and got it shipped to the US. Am I worried its from china? Not really its 20-30 bucks. It would be the last time I lose that amount.
I will agree that eBay has a lot of knock offs but its the chance you take.
I would like to see a Samsung product out as well, but this will have to do until they put something out.
The main reason Im trying it is because Im tired of looking for a desktop charger that I can use the S4 with while its in a case.
Good luck to ya!
that dude's thread confuses me, he shows some youtube video about a Sview case and how it doesn't close flush with the receiver and says you need to press it hard be careful not to crack your screen... after that he lost me.
I just want a thin receiver that I can slip in the rear without the bulge and closing issues, even if NFC is a NO-GO that's fine with me haha.
I purchased this http://www.ebay.com/itm/121111622748?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1497.l2649
The item does work fine, does NFC work I don't know as I never use it but I will try and find out in the near future.
Item was received quickly and "worked" out of the box but the phone would slide off of the touchstone fairly quick, I had modded multiple phones to work with touchstones including my galaxy nexus so I gad these laying around http://www.kjmagnetics.com/proddetail.asp?prod=D401-N52&cat=168
some N52 magnets, and after checking polarities and moving everything around it now works great and holds the phone very securely.
Charge rate looks to be about 800mA peaking at 615mA incoming charge while the phone is on, Average draw while off the charger is about 200mA with same apps running so about 800mA I do not know what it should be giving out but this is more than enough to charge.
Thought people would like to hear about this and am willing to help if necessary.
nice but I am already invested in QI charging pads.
I think that's the trend anyway, I'm surprised there are still an ample supply of touchstone chargers and palm pre back plates still in the market.

They are being supplied by third parties lately. I try and get the originals only though..
I also had a Qi Nexus 4 but I missed the magnetic pull of the pre I had and the galaxy nexus I modded so I did this.
And I can get a proclip for my car and these make amazing car chargers, which is the main reason I purchased the touchstone version.

I wouldn't have created a thread if either of those had helped :good:
The first thread is fairly useful...but is very hard to understand. Also, that solution is pretty much only available overseas for some time. My thread is about using this functionality in North America...which is a totally different story. It's possible to order his solution, but it would cost in the neighborhood of like $75 for the receiver alone...much more than any other available solution.
This thread about looking at options and figuring out what they are.

I got the cheapest possible solution I could find on eBay and/or other Chinese sites like AliExpress.
The charger, including a 5V 1.5A wall charger cost me just under $30 ad I got the the Qi receiver for $23. Both prices including S&H from China. It took less than two weeks before I received those items. The reason why I choose this solution was because I wanted to keep the S4 as slim as possible, and also be able to use the flip cover. To get it cheap is also a bonus.
The charge rate is at 640ma, and the bulge the Qi receiver is making is not visible. I removed the thin plastic film from the backside of the receiver and shaved off as much plastic from the inside of the plastic cover as I dared. There was a small visible bulge before those small modification. After the modification one can still "sense" the Qi receiver, but it is not visible or make the phone wobbly when lying on its back.
The only downside beside the rather low charging rate from this kit is the poor quality of the wall charger. It gets very hot and the solution should have been replaced with a micro USB port on the charging pad to make it more versatile when it comes to replacing wall chargers. The pad is also made too glossy and has an annoying sound when the charging initiate and a continuos overly bright status light. I removed the internal speaker and also dimmed the light with some standard paper. The kit can be modified with other housing solutions, and I was thinking of maybe install it inside a small paper-book or something that is a more "standard" item on a nightstand I will just have to check how hot the charging plate and/or the S4 gets before I try out any mods like that.
My recommendation is; Get an iQ charging receiver on eBay. The one I got is OK, but I might have chosen the oddly shaped Qi receiver after the reviews I have read. There is also rumours about a v2 of this slimmest receiver available. Probably wise to sit on the fence a bit longer. I would also advise to stay clear of those cheapest T-100 kind of charging pads that you can find everywhere for $25-$40. I would rather get the Nokia DT-910 or the genuine Samsung charging pad (are there two different kinds of those; one with a micro USB input and another with a standard charging plug?) In Norway both those chargers costs around 40-45 British pounds
Here is a few pics of my kit:
The other threads do not claim that they are UK/EU based.
Lots of usefull information in both. Bubbles post was to verify that the NFC works with the receiver he got.
You should probably do some research on your own.
and BTW, the cost to have just the reciever is £16.99. which is 25$ US.

Your post is a dupe. Sorry. It just is.
Hey all,
Starting a new thread on this, since the other one is several months old.
Does anyone know of where the S5 Wireless cover can be found where it isn't over priced (i.e. $100)? I'm looking to get the feature, as my charge port is acting funny w/ a lose connection to charging cables.
If not the OEM Samsung version, does anyone know of a decent After Market version that still keeps the waterproof capability. I've seen one on Amazon that doesn't have the waterproof gasket, but no luck anywhere else.
TIA.

How about:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=9SIA7142E95226
And, by the way, the S5 is NOT waterproof, it is water resistant, big difference...
I don't think that one is for the S5. The contacts for the battery don't match the battery pattern. Thanks for looking though.
Understood not waterproof. Just a lack of brain power to write resistant last night..
ME TOO!!!
I've been searching myself for years now, can't figure out why the hell they still cost so much, I'm still not sure I wanna pay $30 + shipping for one directly from Samsung/usa (but they aren't cheaper anywhere else!)
But anyhow... I haven't tried this myself but you could have a look getting at a Qi standard wireless receiver. I don't go on Amazon much, but there's a lot of them on Ebay.
Installed the following last week on my S5, couldn't be happier.
BestFire® Ultra-thin QI Wireless Charging Charger Receiver For Samsung (S5)
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00JQ7UCJW/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
* NOTE... Images aren't for the S5. Unit shipped actually has 3 contact pins, which we need.
Fits well and seals with stock battery door. Slight center bump, but hardly noticeable especially with a protective case on. Using mine with a Samsung wireless charger.
S5
How is the performance of the wireless charging battery cover? Did it work?

I came from wireless charging enabled droid maxx and I never really miss it because of 1 main reason - it's painfully slow to charge. I have quickcharge enabled chargers at home, office and in my car so there's no point for me to charge wirelessly
