Which radio and/or ROM gives you the best signal? - Verizon HTC One (M8)

Hi there. I'm trying to see which ROMs give better signal (i.e. Sense rom vs. AOSP [lollipop]) and which radios work the best.
I'm on the newest radio and the newest GPE lollipop version but I'm curious as to which radio is the best and whether sense ROMs have a better signal (and speeds) than AOSP does.
Any help is appreciated

Contrary to popular belief, ROM/radio/firmware has little effect on cellular signal strength or dataspeeds. Certainly nothing measurable. Some might show more "bars" than others, but the raw signal strength doesn't change significantly.

I'm having issues with cell reception on some ROMs

I've read up on the forums on this issue and because of my newbness , I'm confused a little. I have Cog4 flashed to my phone and I have no issue , But if I try Firefly or Axurma(?) I get little bars or no reception. I guess it has something to do with the i9000 ROMs and ATT. Are there any ROMs that use the same build as Cog , but with more bells and whistles like Firefly? How do I know which build a ROM is supporting that is captivate compatible ?
i have firefly on mine and flashed the ugjl2 modem and it helped with my signal
Search for more info and explanation but the dime store version is:
i9000 based ROMs (like anything JPX/JPY/JS3/JS5/JS7) require an i9000 radio and kernel.
AT&T based ROMs (anything based on KB1, and previous leaks) prefer an AT&T radio.
Single most important thing is to match an i9000 radio, with an i9000 based kernel. And an AT&T based kernel, with an AT&T radio.
Any i9000 ROM can be run on the Captivate if you use a specially designed kernel. If not, the ROM will boot, but certain functions (especially the orientation sensor) will not work properly.
If you don't do that, bad things *may* happen. There's plenty of "mix and match" but only to a certain degree.
Bottom line is, different roms use different modems. There are a few threads on modems that give dowload links. If you're on a I9000 rom, you have to use a I9000 modem. If you're on a KP1 rom, you need to use one that's compatible. It's as easy as copying the modem onto the root of your internal SD card then flash it with CWM. Different modems can give better reception, better DL/UL speed, battery life, and GPS accuracy. There's not one that is the "best" for everyone though. You need to try them to see what works best for you.
This is the exact reason I went with the Cog 4.1 rom as it was based on the latest AT&T 2.2 update with the KB1 baseband so no reception issues.

Better signal on various roms

hey guys do some roms work better at getting signal or is dependant on the radio firmware. do some radios play better with some roms?
i swear these pass few roms have rubbish signal cant tell if its just me though
thanks
Play with different combos of radios with rils.

Hi,
Ask the radio/ril guru HERE

Can different roms make a big difference in signal strength?

I am many times in hotel rooms without free wifi, so I rely on my 4g for internet. I assume that there would be differences between stock and aosp roms, but within each rom type is a big difference in signal strength possible? Sorry if newbish question.
Correct me anyone if I'm wrong but based on MY experience different ROMS should NOT make a differnce in signal quality/connection...however different kernels I believe can. The different kernels sometime handle the switch over from 3g to 4g better and/or help maintain that 4g connection better than others. Also the other determining factor on your radio signal is different radio software...search the forums for radios and I'm sure you'll find mention of vgl1 and/or f2 etc etc...these are different radio software and some people have better results with others. Its always best to simply try each rom/kernel even radio and see what works best for you. We all have galaxy s3's however that does not make them identical.

[Q] Best rom for service ONLY all other variables aside?

First off I apologize if there is another thread about this but all I found when searching was a general "best rom", and one related to battery life.
Personally I would like to know opinions on best rom for connectivity only. I live in a strong 4G area but whenever I am in my basement I get spotty connectivity, drop calls and such. I have been on the CM10 nightlies crack flashing since the boot-loader was unlocked. I love CM10 just wondering for basic call quality, does someone have a different rom preference for call quality?
Again mods I apologize if this is out there... but i couldn't find one for call quality. I realize this all depends on the baseband and such which Samsung is infamous for theirs. I just feel like even a slight better signal would make a big difference for me considering generally it's good connection.
Also my office is in my basement and I make a lot of calls and I'd prefer to keep it that way if possible.
Any thoughts are appreciated.
I'd actually like to know this as well. I recently switched from using an iphone to a Samsung Galaxy S3 and the difference with this phone is there are so many different roms available, I don't know which one is the best whereas with the iphone there is usually 1 main jailbreak and everything else is provided by cydia.
Like you said, this mainly is based on the radio and not on the Rom, but i agree there could be some minor differences. Your best bet would be to try a couple out and see how they work in your office. I personally am running jellywiz and my signal is rock sold and i work in low signal areas a lot.

If you search the forum there is actually a main thread for best rom overall which may help you more since it doesn't seem your only concern is call quality. Sorry I don't have the thread name but I think if you do a forum search for "best rom" you should be able to find that thread.

I actually planned on doing that and testing them out on my own, I was just hoping someone may have some tips on one they have used in areas such as a basement or a place they know they haven't always gotten good service but have found a rom that works great for them as far as call quality. Such as your example of jellywiz, I will certainly give that a try and see if I can hold a higher consistency for call quality. Thanks for your input!
There are definetly differences between ROMs relative to battery life... different versions of the same ROM can be quite different.
I've been using Jellywiz as my DD and it's been great. I really liked RLS4. I've updated to RLS5 this morning but my battery life has declined greatly. I've also gotten one reboot. I'm sure the dev will have it fixed in the next release (the Devs on the Jellywiz project are top notch).
I also liked Synergy quite a lot... It's not Jelly Bean, but the battery life was great and very stable!
The best thing you can do is try several different ones... Let the ROM settle for a good day or two before coming to any conclusions...
Good luck...

Without getting too granular, stock based roms have the best reception. Rom's where the RIL has had to be tweaked, such as CM, MIUI, JellyBean ports, and cross carrier ports are more likely to have radio issues.
Then, there are different radios you could flash. In my experience with many devices, changing radios has never had much of an impact on radio reception. Different radio versions generally fix bugs, and things like 3g/4g switching. For instance the latest stock radio for our device (VRLG7) fixes the "no SIM" bug. I am using that and it has worked great for me.
Generally though, I don't think actual reception (mostly dependent on hardware) should vary too much. Usually it's reliability that can vary. "Bars" aren't always an accurate indicator of reception either, signal strength in dBm is.

Sorry... I got lost in an unrelated thought (battery life)....
The service side appears to be pretty sold from the ROMs that I've personally tried. Not sure you'll find a big difference here in real world performance.
CodefireX is getting me the best service I've ever had. Several other people in the thread seem to be experiencing the same thing.

I have not seen the 4G indicator since flashing a week or more ago. I have tried aokp, cm10, and root66.
Not sure what to do. The phone works fine otherwise. All these are great but I would never have gone this route if I had any thought that wireless capabilities would be reduced. Any ideas on how to return to 4G would be greatly appreciated.
Out of all the 4.1 roms out there, JellyWiz's wifi/4G/3g is the most solid one. Very stable and good enough to be a DD.

horrible aokp rom receptions on att

I've tried all ROMs. Paranoid cm10 king kang and codename
All give me horrible network receptions
When I'm at home its reasonable but WiFi won't connect sometimes
When I'm at school its really hard to get signal
When I'm on the go, I can text but the data won't work
The signal icon is grey instead of blue.
Do I need to reconfigure APN or WiFi setting anything after?
Aokp is blazing fast with over clock but the WiFi and data signal is a joke compared to stock sense or any sense rom

Hmm. If you are not on the newest hboot then try flashing radios. If you are, you could try a hard reset, but not sure that would help. Honestly, when I used AOKP it seemed like I had the best reception.

Somebody already beat me to it but:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1694012
The radio is software that controls the communications of the phone (3G, 4G, WiFi, etc). How well each works varies by region (and even by tower), so the best way to find the perfect one for you is to flash one, try it for a few days, and compare it to others. It doesn't matter what carrier the radio was made for, you can flash ASIA, Rogers, telstra, or any radio under that link to your phone.
Keep in mind: Certain radios can not be flashed to JB based ROMS, 2.2 based ROMS, or both. It says though if they can't.
Also, if you ever update to the newer hboot, you lose all ability to flash radios.
