Different signature app not installing on Moto g unrooted - Moto G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have a stock Moto g kitkat. It has a locked bootloader and hence unrooted.
When I try to install an app with a different signature, it says the app doesn't have a trusted signature or over the same app installed from play store it says the app has different signature.
Please help

There's nothing you can do about that. The reason you can't do this is because is to prevent (in a way) users from installing malicious apps that may look and feel like the original but are running all kinds of stuff in the background.
What I would suggest IF you trust the source for which you got the APK is uninstall the app on your device then install the apk you got
AGAIN, be very careful with this and only do this if you trust the source that you got the apk from
Your locked bootloader has nothing to do with this btw......

Paid apps from different app stores are also "signed". An Amazon App Store app can not be installed over a Google Play Store app.

I am actually trying a fresh install and not on play store install app.
The message displayed is 'app not installed'.
Please help, I have enabled install from unknown resources

It's possible that the app is not compatible for your hardware/OS.

Manually installing Market app

I have a branded Galaxy S with no Android market. I've found 3 different Vending.apks, version 1.665, 1.668, 1.713. I tried to install them using adb install. 1.7133 returns "unexpected exception". Other two install successfully but they both crash when click Install an app. When I go back to app page it says Starting download and gets stuck there (Market app is not frozen). Am I missing a step for manually installing market? Do I have to do anything like adb push Vending.apk /system/app/?
Have you tried flashing a gapps.apk?
have you tried using appbrain and their corrosponding apps like their installer?

AFAIK appbrain uses default market app to download. I don't have any market app that's the problem..

I don't know what gapps.apk is. Could you elaborate please?
Do you mean Vending.apk from the gapps-passion-EPE54B-signed.zip of the Cyanogenmod 5?
Btw I'm using:
pad: jvjh1
phone: jxjg2
csc: trcjh2
Did the same vending.apk installation on a HTC legend "Middle East Version" which also came with no Market and no sucess, i do have the same problem..."crashing at installation"
and about gapps, it's not an apk but rather a flashable content that require rooted device and since i don't wanna root this phone i really didn't figure it out so far. so i'm still waiting for a solution.
Ok. The gapps.apk I know of you can find on rom manager. I think you can DL rom manager straight from their website and install using something like astro file manager. Cyanogen can't release a rom with the Google apps for copyright reasons so they offer it as a seperate download. I'm assuming you can find it on the cyanogenmod site. Otherwise try flashing a stock image through rom manager if they have one for the galaxy x. How did it not come with a market?
Hi. I posted a reply for your idea for my problem but got no reply from you, I guess the thread got lost beneath all the other threads. Could you please give me any ideas about this:

Is it possible to install Play Store on a non approved phone

I have a phone, Thl W1 ICS that does not have Play Store installed. Is it possible to install Play Store. I have been trying for a week and the closest I can get is a Server Error screen. If it's not possible lesson learnt, if it can be done could someone tell me how. This is my first Android device so knowledge is limited. Thanks either way Mike
Yes, but you will have to modify your build.prop so it identifies as a supported android device. Find a supported/official android device that has the closest spec to your phone. Also, you will need the google framework (you might as well just flash the ICS gapps from CM, they will work on AOSP roms also)
Yeah, just search the forums. I believe the thread on how to do this is in the Devlopment forums.
Would like to give flashing gapps a try but every post I've read requires Clockwordmod but without play store I am unable to get it as every download site refers back to play store

Many apps dont seem to care as my HP Touchpad shows up with the name cm_tenderloin on Google Play since its unofficial. Its only some games that flag as incompatible. I imagine most other apps just care about Android OS version and processor instruction set (ARM11, ARMv7).

First off, we dont support piracy on xda.
To solve your problem, download a play store in apk format from sites like androidpolice etc. and push it to /system/app with permissions of rw-r-r. You are done.

Ok. Install the app directly. Download another app called link2sd. Grant superuser access. Then open app window. Click on google play. Click on actions button. see options and click "make system app". It will make it system app automatically. Then reboot your phone. If it still FC, use fix permissions option from cwm recovery.

make sure that you also have GoogleServicesFramework.apk and GoogleLoginService.APK. AFAIK you need these two as well to get the play store app to work.
superuser says my binary is outdated. when i go to update it, it crashes saying it has stopped unexpectly. on link2sd all the options under actions is launch manage reinstall unistall. i tried manage and it just took me to application settings. i hope i didnt screw up my phone rooting it last night because i cant do anything on it. google play has got to where i can go in install an app but soon as i hit accept and download it crashes. i did a factory reset last night so poot and superuser are gone. i tried to redownload superuser just now and thats when it said my binary was outdated and when i try to update it, it crashes. is this fixable or is my phone screwed up lol. i really appreciate you helping me!!!

You can disable notifications from superuser app. Also you won't loose root if you factory reset your phone. Superuser app is set as system app when you root it. Also follow what justmpm said above.

You must install the Goggle play compatible with your Android version and your phone.
Please provide the phone model, Android version and if you have a custom recovery or not,
If you are still unable to install playstore apk, i will recommend downloading gapps for your phone model. Flash them from custom recovery using install zip. This should install your playstore. No clue if it can override the pre exisiting apps. Still learning on xda.

I don't think he has a curtom recovery set up. Flashing Gapps would overwrite existing ones, but most gapps packages are configured to abort the installation if some gapps already exist.
Try this app as an alternative

He is already on root, and perhaps if there's nowhere the solution, ome simply can't live without playstore. I will advise full system wipe with data and installing a newer custom recovery and then new rom with new gapps.

Any proper solution for this? Running on CM12.1.
Brother sorry we couldn't help you in this case because we don't know how to fix it . One thing you can do is that Google it and you will found some better response for sure
Dude, that is the easiest thing to fix, but if the OP doesn't tell us the phone model and version i wont even bother trying to fix it. OP is inactive anyways...

[Q] How to manually install .apk

I've been trying to install a particular app to my phone, Nexus 4, rooted custom rom, etcetc.
The app in question was pulled from the Play store some time ago and it seems Google went further and removed the free version of the app from users devices without permission as well. I have the pro version as did many others and from what I've read, the pro version was not removed. However I flash roms and eventually lost it and that required a reinstall.
The problem: traditional methods of installing the .apk give the error "App not installed."
How can I install this app manually? The only other method I could think of was to try to root copy it to /system/app but that didn't work. And I'll reiterate, so we're clear, browsing to .apk and installing through explorer by clicking it does not allow the .apk to install. So, suggestions?
You could try sideloading it using Android Injector. (If it fails, it'll tell you why)

Yeah it failed.
The application itself says install successful, but the app cannot be found on the phone.
There are a few websites that allows you to download apps in its apk format. You can install that way. But I'm not sure if its legal. Someone could correct me here.
Please hit Thanks if I helped

The OP stated that this method does not work in this situation.
NB. - It is legal unless the app is warez.

That uses the same method as manually installing the apk from a file manager.

The app isn't warez but it is one of the unapproved apps by google now, I mainly just wanted to look for an alternate method of installing apps in case this kind of app blocking became more prevalent. You have to admit, Google did a real number on blocking this app. Thanks for the help anyway guys.
the command that worked for me was:
adb install app.apk
You can make a folder in /system/app with its name without space as folder name and copy the apk to that folder.
Apk name should be same as the folder name +.apk.
Then reboot your device.
After reboot the app will be definitely installed as a system app. But some apps might be stable but some not.

App Not Installed

I'm trying to install an older version of Google Photos on my Pixel (don't care for versions 2.17+ as they remove the ability to upload while charging only). I'm not rooted, have not modified in anyway, and am running the latest stock Android Oreo 8.1. I uninstalled Google Photos as a system app using ADB and tried sideloading the apk appropriate for my phone (arm64, nodpi), but keep getting the error message: App Not Installed. I've allowed installing from unknown sources and have disabled Play Protect, but still no dice. I can sideload or install the latest version of Photos from the Play Store, however.
Any ideas?

pretty sure you didn't really uninstall Google Photos if it's a system app unless you have root. using adb to "uninstall" does not uninstall an app system wide, only for the specific user. that said, Google Photos is still there and installing a version older than what's on the system will give you that error

While you temp root, maybe is interresting to search for bringing back upload on charge only. There is an xda article about that. It is done by changing something in a file.
After that you can just use the newest version, but with the option u want.
Here it is: https://www.xda-developers.com/google-photos-backup-while-charging-only/
Worked for me even after updates to the app.
Cheers
