Motorola xoom Root help or rom help anything please - Xoom Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello, iv been a long time lurker on the site with out an account and i recently acquired a xoom tablet 4G model i do believe
It came with ICS by default and i saw an update for jeallybean so i installed it.
Soon i wanted to just get a better rom in the first place but i soon learned i had to unlock my bootloader first anyhow
I got adb and fastboot and the android sdk then i found a guide on how to unlock it. i did it and it was unlocked.
Next i needed to root the dang thing. so i found all the files i needed and i put all the files i needed on sd card also.
I then typed in all the commands needed to flash it in fastboot mode.
I get this error called (to many links) could not flash error. Iv tried differnt files and name types and i even restarted 3 times this whole thing....im so clost to getting this thing flashed so i can get cwm mod and root so i can get the OVerclock mod for the tablet..
I really need help as iv been up all night doing this and it bothers me that i cant get past this stump. iv researched all i could but have not found a soultion. thanks.

Open the run me .bat and follow the steps to install twrp. And after that twrp will root for you once you boot into twrp and then exit via reboot menu.

[Q] HTC One S(ville) black screen, thats it... just a black screen, what can i do???

I was working fine, enjoying my new HTC One S with CM9 rom installed. Well the battery life wasnt the best on it, and i didnt install the custom kernel. So I looked for the custom kernel download(on my phone, not on my computer) and i found a .zip file. Well I thought that you could just download the kernel straight to my phone and open it up with "Rom Manager" which i did, it than said i needed to reboot the phone in recovery to continue the installation, so I did... it took me to recovery "to continue the installation" well than I looked away, looked backed down and it was black.... and i have tried powering up, booting into boot loader, booting into recover, and nothing... its just BLACK! nothing works, its literally useless ATM. I really messed up, is there anyway to fix this? Thanks in advanced!
----EDIT----
I think I accidentally flashed the kernel like i would normally flash a rom.... cause i downloaded the .zip file(directly to my phone, not using a computer), than i tapped the download and it asked me if i wanted to open it up with rom manager, so i did. and i think rom manager thought i was flashing a rom, when i wasnt, it was a kernel.... am i screwed? or is there anyway out of this?
Do you know the exact kernel you flashed--where did it come from
Some you need to extract and push
Assume you just tried to boot into bootloader thru phone buttons
Does your pc recognize your phone when plugged in, if so can you open a command window and try to access phone as in adb devices then adb reboot bootloader
assuming you are familiar with sdk adb/fastboot comands
otherwise i don't know what else to say--may be bad--sorry
Came from an XDA thread
Here is where it came from: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1708676 from "sun90" (half way down the page "CM9 KERNEL remix edition.zip - [Click for QR Code] (5.53 MB, 9 views) ")
i downloaded that straight to my phone and opened it up with Rom Manager, which i think the app took it as a rom, and installed it like a rom even though it was not a rom. I just tried to access it through adb, it comes up with no devices my PC does recognize it when i plug it in though...
Ive tried to get into bootloader tons of times, it just stays black... :'(
Thanks for your answer!
You flashed a galaxy s2 kernel on your one s? why would you ever think that was a smart thing to do?
Looking at the updater script in that zip it seems it wipes some partitions, the partitions on a SGS2 and the ONE S are different, so if that script accidentally wiped say the hboot partition, or some other critical-for-boot partition, you have a fully bricked phone.
For any devs that may know what partitions are what on the One S, the script wiped
mmcblk0p7, and wrote a zimage to mmcblk0p5
---EDIT---
Normally this is a cwm flashable zip on the Samsung Galaxy S II, which is why rom manager flashed it, as it met all the requirements, the only issue is, it was not made for the ONE S and probably overwrote some important things.
I tried for hours and hours to fix the same issue on a friend's One S (same symptoms, not same cause) to no avail. I tried QPST and telnet and a ridiculous amount of things. Had to bring it to the store and get a new one.
Good luck, but I don't believe there's anything you can do to fix it.
Just answered your question in the help thread, Didnt see this thread too !
Im afraid its not looking good, I think your best bet would be to call your provider and blame it on an OTA update.
And hope for the best
Alright, thanks for the help!
Well it looks like i bricked my phone than.... I thought that CM9 was only on the One S, so I just looked for the CM9 kernel, which obviously was for the sg2, i feel like such a dumb ass now! haha well thanks for all the help guys! ill be heading to the t-mobile store today to blame it on a OTA:]
yeah, others wont agree with what your about to do but........
just act like a complete noob, dont mention anything about software / firmware / ROMs / bootloader etc ect
just say your phone made a noise, you selected update and it died lol
good luck--I know it is heartbreaking
not sure of your situation with carrier, but you could go thru Retention if needed
Hi peeps.
i'm very new to all this but sort of know the basics
i'm running on Axiom now but tried to flash cm10 but after install i got a black screen so had to do a restore.
Today i just flashed venom and after the instal process is done, i hear the start up music but nothing on the screen.
I have had 3 other roms on my phone and never had a problem!
these are the steps i do
download rom - place on sd
put phone in recovery
reset factory
reset cache
install from sd
when it finish's reboot
blank screen.
Am i missing something?
Any help would be great and i can't post on the thread because i'm a noob with less than 10 and dont want to spam my way to the 10 :silly:
you are missing a lot, like reading the OP page and following install instructions
you missed separate flash of boot image and wiping system plus data and caches
i wipe system 3x to be safe

I've got a mac
not sure what fastboot is.
I'll check out the link, and thank you very much for trying to help:good:
sorry i do know what fastboot is, yes can get in to it. but ive gone from CWM to teamwin recovery if i go in to the recovery section but that wont let me do anything because the mount. cant even load the phone up
I don't know Mac commands
My idea is to install htc drivers and set up fastboot/adb on pc--the info can be found in dev section on rooting
then open a command window and and boot into fastboot and flash a new recovery, maybe stock per the link, clear storage and try to get mounted
how did you unlock bootloader--
you will need to do alot of reading on adb/fastboot and flashing roms--first step is to have backups of rom and sdcard
since i don't the Mac commands to do fastboot, someone else will chime in at some point
you can alos go to the noob section in Q&A and resubmit your issue
someone will work you thru this, but in meantime study up on android sdk/fastboot/adb. a necessity to get out of these problems
you are not bricked, just need the info and right steps to get back on track

[Resolved] Help me root Blu Dash 4.5? UPDATE: root and boot successful

First off, I'm using Linux, specifically xubuntu.
Hey I've never rooted a phone and have been up all night trying to figure this out. It seems that there isn't a guide for this particular model and I'm trying to figure out how to get it rooted. If I understand correctly, I believe the first step I need to do is retrieve my stock recovery img to use the CWM builder and I'm sort of lost. Here's all the info I can offer to help you help me.
update: Framaroot worked. 5 minutes max. The middle option. wtf. I don't even know what to do now. ahahahahahaha
THIS IS HOUSTON. WE HAVE LIFT OFF.
keywords for every other exhausted noob:
blu dash 4.5 root recovery flash img
ok ok now I have to unlock the bootloader I guess and I'm still confused
edit again: 2 hours later, ended up at the same G+ page, read a couple comments below and now I have CWM installed.
Summary of How To
download Framaroot, select the second option(the first didn't work or something)
Download the CVM from the google + page
HTML:
https://plus.google.com/107075561881109670409/posts/RWuhJBoFXa9
Steps: your device with ROOT. Install mobileuncletool.
- unzip file : copy recovery. img for you sdcard. Not use WiFi.
- in mobileuncletoll have a option: Update recovery. Select and you see recovery.img (see date and size). Select and choose OK. Reboot automatically in CWM.

clarification requested please
I'm also interested in rooting my dash 4.5. Your post is the only helpful one I've found, so thanks for that.
I've only rooted one phone before so I'm almost a complete noob, plus it was a couple of years ago. Anyway, I've never used framaroot or CWM, and have little understanding of the inner workings of Linux. So, I'm needing a little clarification on the process you used.
If Framaroot works I should be able to get that to work, but if I have to use CWM I'll probably just work with a non rooted dash 4.5. But if it's not too hard to do, and you don't mind spelling things out for me, I'll give it a shot.
So did you have to use framaroot and then use CWM to get things working?
Thanks for the help. I appreciate it.

deleted., misread.
Hello!
I'm a noob as well, but I'll try my best to help with whatever I can as I have semi bricked my phone several times and safely got away with it. Assuming you followed the instructions on the Google developer page for Android L, have you tried reverting back to KitKat with the factory images they have provided via SDK? With SDK, you can open up the terminal in the SDK tools path to send commands forcing your phone into certain modes such as fastboot that is needed to flash the factory images.

Baz, click the link in my signature. There is a step by step guide to flash back to stock.

Help Please - No zip on the device, wiped data ...

Hi guys,
A while ago, I've rooted/unlocked my device in order to install Cyanogenmod, installed PhilZ bootloader. Been running through some versions, never happy with the result - slow response, games not running that well, etc. The last time, I got some new update (can't remember which one though ...) which was the worst nightmare. Without any app running, I thought I was on some Eboda tablet, the cheapest one. Last night I've tried to connect the tablet to my laptop, to put some ebooks on it, without success. Nothing I did convinced the 2 devices to see one another. So, I tried to go back to some previous ROM, boot the device in recovery mode and did a wipe. Forgot that at some point I erased all ROMs from it ... now, I still can't connect to it, so that I can copy some version of ROM, any version, although Windows shows it as installed and connected. Bottom line is that now I got no ROM on the tablet, not installed and also not one that I can install, only got the PhilZ bootloader. Is there any way to get my tablet back or is it bricked ?
You are confusing bootloader and recovery. But as long as you can get to the bootloader *or* to your recovery, it is possible to restore your tablet.
To talk to the bootloader, you need to use fastboot.
To talk to the recovery, you need to use adb.
For more details, read berndblb's comprehensive guide in the General section.

You are right, I have to admit I have not been very thorough the first time I went about this
Thank you very much, I will track down this guide, perhaps I will be able to restore my tablet to some use ...
Hi all,
As it turns out, I had only to push one flashable image (used CM11) and was able to put the tablet back on it's feet. Many thanks to berndblb
Have fun!

[Completed] Please help me. No OS. HTC One M7.

Hey there guys. I bought an HTC One M7 from amazon which came unlocked. Problem was, i couldnt get it to connect to my provider, Koodo. Long story short, i went to flash a Stock Telus Rom to it, no META file in the zip. Already wiped my phone. So now theres no OS. I have TWRP still (thank god for that) but it just sits at the HTC logo and wont boot, as i know thats what happens when you mess up. Fairly familiar with THIS issue, as ive done it to my Samsung Galaxy SIII MANY times before, but had odin to fix it. I have an RUU.exe. Got it from a forum here. Cant connect to my phone (error 171 i believe). Everything is connected properly, and my PC recognizes it, but only as an MTP device. I am gonna try an RUU.zip and flash it with fastboot. See if that method works. But any help at all would be GREATLY appreciated as i dont want to have spent $299 to waste it like betting on the Maple Leafs.
Side note: I cannot get ADB Sideloader to work properly. I have a Custom Rom that i attempted to flash that way, but i got the error that was like ADB version (31) is not up to date with server (36) or something along the lines of that and then it fails to load daemon everytime. Tried some fixes from these forums but none of them were successful. Not familliar with ADB and all that stuff, so if anyone has any fix for the ADB, please dumb it down to kindergardener levels.
Sorry this is so long. Tried to explain everything as detailed as possible for a more acturately helpful response.
UPDATE Got the RUU.zip file to work after a couple hours of messing around with it. Had to fast boot getvar to obtain my model id, and change that in the android-info.txt in the zip file. Is flashing now. HUGE thanks to all of the thousands of XDA forums. Helped me out with everything!
