I'm currently on stock CM11S with TWRP recovery. The phone was working fine until tomorrow. But now whenever the screen shuts down due to screen timeout (or because of me hitting the power button), it doesn't start again. I'm sure that the phone doesn't get turned off because the time when this happened, I was playing music on the phone. The screen won't turn on. Please help.
I had this exact same problem after flashing a CM12 nightly and returning to CM11S 44S.
Turns out this has to do with the proximity sensor becoming bugged. You can check this by going to "Settings > Display & lights" and unchecking "Prevent accidental wake-up". Now your screen should turn back on.
Little tip - if you don't want to reboot in order to get your screen back on you can just plug in the usb cable connected to either to your pc or charger (as long as you have the "Wake on plug" option activated).
Now, before you try the method below, make sure the proximity sensor is clean - so wipe the screen surface, especially in the upper part. People having this problem on other phones also suggested blowing air in the headphone jack, to blow away any dust that may have gotten inside the phone and on the sensor (although I think blowing humid air inside the phone isn't a good idea in the first place). These are probably not the causes in this case, but it never hurts to try.
Anyway, the solution ,as unlikely as it may sound, is over on this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=57995903&postcount=523
Just download the first modem (XNPH44S - in case it matches your rom) and flash it in recovery.
This solved my problem, hope it solves yours, too.
Absolutely right, I had the same problem, do as he said. Cheers !
If you flash the same radio as in your ROM it shouldn't make a difference?
I have Calkulin's OnePlus ROM 44S v1.2 so I guess it already has an unmodified 44S radio or am I wrong?
edit :
tried but didn't solve my problem
Fixed
Same screen blackout issue after trying out CM12 and reverting back to 11/44S. Reflashed Radio and problem is fixed.
Same problem for me to. After reverting back to 11s/44s screen blackout. Reflashed modem radio and problem is sorted. Thanks guys.

Anyone one else experiencing a stall when rebooting using SKy ICS 4,2F-4.5A?
If I reboot either from CWM or from using the drop down or the power button, the phone hangs up with a black screen and all the LED buttons lit up? Then I have to hold the power button down to do a hard reboot.
I have reflashed numerous times and have come through numerous updates and this one issue persists.
Anyone?

No problem here. You have installed busy box, fixed permissions, and the usual stuff?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I727 using Tapatalk 2
I got the exact same issue, busy box installed, permissions fixed. Tried flashing everything again didn't solve it, kernel etc.
The only thing I didn't try is radio, are you using rogers radio as well?
Also it happens if I just try shut down the phone.
Try doing a backup in cwm, then just immediately restore that backup... often fixes that problem for me on sky ics.

I got it resolved but only by fluke. Flashed 4.2-5b as well as the CYMBALINE kernel (an attempt to resolve bluetooth connection issues) and now everything boots fine.
Thanks
I flashed the kernel without it being solved. I did the backup+restore and I think it seems to have fixed it, I'll do some more checking tomorrow kinda late here but thanks!
Btw after you flashed 4.5a you didn't need to flash b
Had the same problem after doing a fresh 4.2 R2 base install. I let the phone fully cache (5 mins or so) and I tried rebooting to CWM to flash the 5A update and the phone hung on shutdown and my cap lights stayed lit up. I realized I forgot to install busybox after 1st boot-up per the OP instructions. So I held power button for 10secs, rebooted, installed busybox and it rebooted fine into CWM to flash update. Weird, never seen that before.

Running Rogers ICS stock here rooted and busybox first, then flashed the modded UXCLF3 Kernel, hangs on the Rogers animation and the touch keys stay on whenever I try to shut down or reboot the phone, have to pull the battery all the time, trying the Backup + Restore route now, hope it works otherwise I'll have a brick and a phone that won't turn off

It worked for me, worst case you can hold the power key for 10s to turn it off.
The issue me and I think also the other guy had was black screen and touch key lights.

This has been answered in the dev thread. Here is the solution . You need to flash it with cwm touch. I have no idea why but with cwm the older cwm you get hung up rebooting or shutting down. It will also hang when fixing permissions. I have also read that twrp was working also.
Cwm touch can be found here half way down the thread.

I went from 4.5a update (fresh base install) to 5b update.
I flashed the JB ROM on my Tab 7 Plus. After the "succeess" of the flashing as said by Odin v1.85, I tried to turn on the device, but it didn't. I tried to access download mode or recovery mode but it didn't work either. I tried to hold the volume down button and connect the cable to the tablet. That opened the download mode but the screen was "flashing". The rate at which the screen "flashes" keeps increasing until it becomes very fast and the device turns off. I tried to flash a ROM, but Unfortunately it turns off fast that there will be no time for the flashing process to continue.
Any idea what should I do?
what model device do you have and what exact ROM did you flash? and which ROM did you have before flashing.
If you say I dont know to any of these.....

My Device is GT-P6200 and I got the GT-P6200 JB ROM for it.
______________
I left my device to charge all night. When I woke up I tried to see if the 'flashing' of the screen still occurs, but it didn't happen. I think I can flash a ROM now
I tried to flash the ROM again and it worked, luckily it was not a hard brick. Problem solved. It is weird that the flashing didn't succeed the previous time. Maybe the battery level was low (about 20%) when I flashed the ROM the previous time, can this be the problem?
yes, also a faulty or non-OEM cable would be the culprit.

yess. flashing(blinking) screen is how download mode tells you that your battery is low. probably less than 10% since it even turned off by itself.
This Happend To me and I got it BACK
Hello... I totally understand your frustration... This exact same thing happened to me after my battery went dead just after I installed JB...
well here is the kick and it's kind of tricky...
If you want you can call me and I can tell you the instructions, it's complicated but if you follow the steps it will work...
I can also take the time to write it down, but i'm bad a typing.
let me know if you are interested...
Sorry for the late reply. It was fixed after less than a day from starting this thread.

I combined some more things because I didnt want to spam section with thread for every thing
1. Backlight on hardware buttons is "shaky" Im afraid they will die. any idea why is that happening?
2. Everytime I start up my phone between LG silver logo and boot animation there is something like a white noise sometimes its green and red and sometimes when I flash in recovery and reboot it even shows 4 small pictures of recovery next to each other in weird colors. I will take picutre of it l8r.
3. Sometimes Phone just dies while Im using it. Randomly it just goes black and turns off not even a boot animation like i said it dies. On ics roms it happened sometimes now I on jellybam. After flashing pureaudio and pureperformance mod I decided to uninstall pureperf through flashable zip in thread. The installation was aborted I dont have idea why . after trying to uninstall pureperf unsuccesfully it happens often but (im not sure about this) only when listening to music or only when phone isn't charger . I don't know which one is problem.
please help my phone is going crazy and I dont have idea why :/
1. Could be a loose connection inside the phone. Or maybe some software conflict.
2. No idea, but see 3.
3. No idea except maybe you have too many mods and some do not agree.
It is always good to take a Nandroid backup before installing anything in recovery. If you have a backup from before the mods you could restore it and see what happens. Your firmware and bootloader need to be compatible with the ROM you restore (like if you have wkpark bootloader, and you try to restore a backup that had stock bootloader, you will get a security error, if I remember correctly).

Im on Jellybam 4.2.2 wkparks bootloader and pureperformance and pureaudio are only mods I flashed and i flashed jb videorecord fix and arc+libs CM10. Do I need any special tools to fix loosr connection? . i found out that phone dies only when on battery so phone just ends signal with battery or other way but I think phone has to do with it because before flashing those two mods that did not happen. And about the startup. Could I jam some chip inside somehow? That weird screen is showing up for a long time it started when VR3D came out. (But I wasnt using vr3d at the time)
Also didn't you have any of these issues? You have supercharger and this mod has it integrated too
Edit: when listening to music it happens too . i turn om music it goes for 5 seconds and phone dies. When i try to reboot phone dies during booting only boots up when I put phone in charger. If phone is in charger music works fine. Pure mods and battery somehow don't work together . I would wipe them but they are so damn good

I dont understand how can software f*** up hardware like that. I did wipe flashed xbsalls v28b prerooted through lg flash tool. After that phone still randomly dies and after reboot battery showd 1% of battery left. Help me dude please is it faulty hardware?

The software runs the hardware so if there is a software issue, hardware could function incorrectly
It could be hardware since the problem carried over to another ROM. The digitizer should plug into the motherboard by a cable. You could make sure it is seated all the way.

Why digitizer? Digitizer works properly

I mean LCD and lights. I'd check that all cables are seated, that nothing is loose and causing the problem(s).

Sounds like a kernel issue. Go back to stock pb1 and see if the same issue persists.
If it does then you may have a hardware issue.
how might i do that while keeping the bootloader unlocked? is there an odin file without sboot.bin?

Flash any stock based rom.
And the stock kernel.
This sounds more like your power button is stuck. I haven't had it happen on an S5, but I've experienced it on the S4. Tap the power button side of the phone down on a hard surface, and that will usually free it up. You might need to use some force. I had to slam the S4 pretty hard against the table to get the button freed up.
Hello everyone!
I dont know if someone already posted this thread, but I'm a bit desperate now. Here is my problem.
A few days ago I was sliding through Facebook, when my phone screen just turned upside down and backwards.
1) Restarted the phone - NOTHING.
2) Rooted and tried to modify a line in system folder (rotation) that everyone said would solve the problem, but the line doesn't eve exist.
3) Factory reset and flashed stock firmware- NOTHING.
4) Tried updating screen firmware through MMI/USSD code, but phone refuses to execute codes.
Rtl layout is not on just so we're clear.
Screenshot is normal. The controls are the same, but the picture is upside down, so I would'nt say it's a hardware problem.
Any suggestions before I replace the damn screen?

That is kind of weird, unfortunately I have nothing to advice that you didn't perform previously , I think the best thing to do is to send it to customer service :/
In my opinion it is a software issue and changing the screen won't resolve it
Weird.
Is it revered in fastboot or recovery too?
This would highlight if it's a screen issue or ROM software...

Give it a try flashing another firmware via dload... May that could help..
Ok, we have a brealthrough! I flashed a few new firmwares, and when I flashed the last one the picture went to normal orientation, but now the screen is flickering and blinking and going bananas.

LOL.. those are really strange issues..
Downgrade your phone to marshmellow.. Try flashing marshmallow firmware.. If it went back to normal upgrade to nougat via OTA.
Holy crap it's back to normal. I went to developer options and disabled HW overlay. Apparently CPU and GPU were ''fighting'' over who's going to control the screen. So for anyone who has the same issue as me, and none of the solutions I mentioned in the first post help- flash stock firmaware/firmwares, and if the problem persists, disable HW overlay. Thanks a lot guys
EDIT - Oh and flashing firmware via dload worked like a charm. Thanks hassanjavaid8181
