[Q] Moto G 4G XT1039 - When Lollipop? - Moto G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Is anyone knows when the update will be available for this model?
I know that there was a part update for basic Moto G model from 2013.
Thank you for any replies,
Regards,
Tom

It seems like Motorola Engineers are not taking Moto G XT1032, XT1033, XT1039 and the another variants to serious, Phones with heavy UIs and apps like G3 and galaxy Note or Galaxy s5 has Lollipop.

Maybe after Google fixes memory leak problems in Lollipop.

http://www.talkandroid.com/227246-m...or-memory-management-apps-constantly-closing/
I tested official CM12 and it has exacly same problem. ^

Heard news about a soak test that started today in India en Mexico... so I guess we won't have to wait much longer.

Same Question
I was asking myself the same thing, although if you want to you can simply flash the Brazilian official KitKat Firmaware (Be careful, I almost Bricked mine jajaja LoL), and then just install the Motorola Update Service app. This will let you update To lollipop.

[Q] MOTO G 2nd Generation

Will the custom roms and kernels work on the moto g 2nd generations as well??
The new Moto G 2014 hasn't got any new things but screen size and dual speakers and camera.
Can anyone help regarding the confusion of firmwares or threads with the old moto g(if the custom firmwares of the old one won't work).
Custom Recovery
Old Moto G custom recoveries are not working. Boot up failed. Plz upload valid device specific recovery. Help for rooting!!!

Forget about to use Moto G stuff on Moto G2 for now, it uses another bootloader version. And probably most of the old stuff will never work until someone make a porting. If you want to use old stuff just get an old Moto G, which is better imho. Anyway there is a specific forum section for the new G2 where you can ask and discuss about it:

Possible to root Verizon Moto G (XT1028) with 4.4.4 using Crash's method for MotoX?

I guess I am one of the unlucky one to purchase the verizon prepaid Moto G from Bestbuy Sale to only find out that it came with 4.4.4 and could not be rooted.
Apparently nothing work at this moment.
However, it appears previously Moto G and Moto X had similar rooting method prior to 4.4.4, and someone has worked out a way to root verizon Moto X on 4.4.4 at here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-x/general/moto-x-root-pogress-60-t3071602
I am wondering if it is possible someone could adapt this method to make it work with Moto G on 4.4.4?
Sucks But....
No. :/ I have been searching for about a year now. Verizon had Moto lock the BL on the G's that Verizon had intended on selling. I was not aware of it.. Looked at it the same day also saw the quad core and jumped on it. I will remember to study from now on. I have heard rumors about Verizon letting Moto Release the BL Code but I highly doubt that. For now it sits in the realm of silence, waiting ..... possibly forever.
Good Luck

LG G Stylo [MS631] (Metro PCS variant) Marshmallow update

Hi there guys was wondering if root is available for marshmallow on the metro pcs lg g stylo since I was having trouble finding out. On game theory's website there is a guide to updating to the latest firmware here but i'm not sure if its talking about the marshmallow update.
Any help would be appreciated I'm half worried no one will respond because it might be an incredibly easy question anyway cheers.
In case anyone ever finds this thread I eventually found out that you can receive the update fine by going back to stock. And rooting is almost the same as the T-Mobile model. If you have any doubt's pm I may be able to respond.

You can nstall the moto g pro roms on US version moto g stylus. When the android 12 is released for moto g pro, you can flash it to moto g stylus and everything should work.

You don't need root to flash moto g pro roms onto moto g stylus. You just need to unlock the bootloader.
On some devices like Oneplus devices, there are even ways to cross-flash roms/firmwares without unlocking bootloader, like flashing global unlocked firmware to carrier-specific variants. On moto devices, it's also possible to cross flash different firmwares with locked bootloader but more complicated.
Unlocking bootloader and rooting are two different things.
You can have unlocked bootloader and non-root roms even though unlocked bootloader is usually a prerequisite of rooting.
On some devices, you can root without unlocked bootloader, usually through some exploits.
There's always more to learn. Thanks.
I just did the update to our G-Stylus now its a G-Pro running A12 with no issue so far and Android Auto wireless works much much better
one thing since A12 has more battery optimizing stuff built in i had to kill of a few otimizer apps seem they were fighting the system
Rooting was same as before so no problems so far
BUT NOT required to get A12 since i can assure u i had to do a clean ReRoot after the upgrade using the Moto upgrade tool....look for change software channel here in the forums.
still like the 2022 5G Stylus with 8gb Ram so that may happen but not such a rush now
