[Q] MOTO G 2nd Generation - Moto G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Will the custom roms and kernels work on the moto g 2nd generations as well??
The new Moto G 2014 hasn't got any new things but screen size and dual speakers and camera.
Can anyone help regarding the confusion of firmwares or threads with the old moto g(if the custom firmwares of the old one won't work).

Custom Recovery
Old Moto G custom recoveries are not working. Boot up failed. Plz upload valid device specific recovery. Help for rooting!!!

Forget about to use Moto G stuff on Moto G2 for now, it uses another bootloader version. And probably most of the old stuff will never work until someone make a porting. If you want to use old stuff just get an old Moto G, which is better imho. Anyway there is a specific forum section for the new G2 where you can ask and discuss about it:

Flash Falcon Rom in peregrine?

Hey guys,
I wanna buy a moto g 1st gen. Now i noticed that there are much less Roms for peregrine than for Falcon moto g. Now my question is: can i flash any moto g 3g Rom on moto g Lte? What will i loose only Lte and SD card support or the whole phone? Which one should i buy because im extremely interested in custom roms:what:
Thanks in advance for help :good
Nope, that won't work.
If you want more options when it comes to custom roms, falcon simply has more of them. Don't buy it if you need more storage for games and what not, 16GB just doesn't cut it.

Putting Stock android on Moto G

I have Moto G 4g (XT1045). I would like to replace carrier altered android with stock android on it. When done, I do not want the phone rooted. Can I please get help on the proper procedure for doing this as well as the correct rom for this particular type of moto G.

Probably best to ask in a the Moto G area, not here... it is a different animal than the Moto G 2015.

Moto G Turbo Edition Should be get another forum thread in XDA

So as I think guys the moto g turbo edition is not getting a good response in this moto g 2015 forum
I think moto g turbo edition should get different forum thread as the motorola sites aslo show different link for moto g 3rd generation and moto g turbo edition
I totally confusing and cant find more works for moto g turbo edition thats the merlin
all the works are for the moto g 3rd generation thats ospery hardly geting turbo edition
Get your poll guys and request xda developers to start new forum for it as the phone is complete different in terms processor and perfomancce...
:good::good:
Moto G turbo is dead in xda. I can't find any options for ROM/Kernel development. I think there should be a separate thread for Moto G Turbo(merlin).

You can nstall the moto g pro roms on US version moto g stylus. When the android 12 is released for moto g pro, you can flash it to moto g stylus and everything should work.

You don't need root to flash moto g pro roms onto moto g stylus. You just need to unlock the bootloader.
On some devices like Oneplus devices, there are even ways to cross-flash roms/firmwares without unlocking bootloader, like flashing global unlocked firmware to carrier-specific variants. On moto devices, it's also possible to cross flash different firmwares with locked bootloader but more complicated.
Unlocking bootloader and rooting are two different things.
You can have unlocked bootloader and non-root roms even though unlocked bootloader is usually a prerequisite of rooting.
On some devices, you can root without unlocked bootloader, usually through some exploits.
There's always more to learn. Thanks.
I just did the update to our G-Stylus now its a G-Pro running A12 with no issue so far and Android Auto wireless works much much better
one thing since A12 has more battery optimizing stuff built in i had to kill of a few otimizer apps seem they were fighting the system
Rooting was same as before so no problems so far
BUT NOT required to get A12 since i can assure u i had to do a clean ReRoot after the upgrade using the Moto upgrade tool....look for change software channel here in the forums.
still like the 2022 5G Stylus with 8gb Ram so that may happen but not such a rush now
